Prelude to Dispute - Fire Emblem: Fates - Игры
x+y=234
50x+150y=21700
divide the second equation by 50
x+y=234
x+3y=434
let's subtract the first equation to the first
x+3y - (x+y) = 434 - 234
2y = 200
y=100
Thus the number of mansions is 100, and by exclusion the number of houses is 134

In history, a lot of thieve bands were made up of former mercenaries , a lot of which were savvy with their money. While not that in deapth, they could do some pretty impressive math if they were in charge, or involved in payments and managing funds.

Easy. Steal the answers from the teacher without getting caught.
-brigand problems need brigand solutions-
The correct answer is either to intimidate the answer out of the teacher or beating it out of him. Stealing it without getting caught if for the THIEF exam. And no, you don't wanto to know how you get the answers for the assassin exam.
NeoChronoid I mean, what ELSE could have happened to Byleth’s predecessor?
I would have LOVED if it was actual practical exams, and the weapon skills determined how tough it'd actually be. (So a thief would have to steal a total of 5-10 items [based on weapon skill] and whether or not there would be a percent chance would be another option [keep in mind, I'm thinking this to be like how a Skyrim steal would go, except if they spot you, you'd lose the promo])

I wish my math problems were that easy.
Everyone's saying this problem is easy and writing the system of equations, but the idea of using letters for variables came about in the late sixteenth century. Algebra existed long before then, but this approach would probably be considered original to the Three Houses cast.
Galaxy brain there man.
3H is heavily implied to be set in a post-apocalyptic society that's regressed back to medieval times though. Using letters as variables is probably nothing new to them.
well since Garreg mach as a goothic cathedral allready existed for several centuries and according to the structures of domination of the 3 countries we are certainly way past the rennaissance age and allready at the start of collonial times.

Oh, good. It wasn't just me.
Brigands are mathematically inclined. This also means they use precision and careful planning before raiding villages, making them professional criminals, due to their skill list, like assasins in fates. And here we thought their scraggly and unkept faces were a clear indicator of what kind of bumbs they really were. Turns out, it's just part of the job.

your missing 34 in the result since the total hit was 234 homes and mansions
Lukas Mendevi you’re kinda missing half the answer since to solve 2 variables you need at least 2 different equations, the second one is x+y=234 as is why the question is asking which system of equations would solve the problem

The way that question is phrased it sounds like it's a multiple choice question, as it also does not tell u to solve for X or Y, rather sounds like its asking you to pick wich system of equations gives you the right answer.
Ah systems. Math gets more as you add more letters to the equation.
Literally.
Yes and no, though a bad teacher of mine did make it more confusing for me. If you remember in kindergarten (or later) we used to us boxes instead of x. That is what eventually helped me understand most algebra.
Math Will Follow You Everywhere
If they taught algebra like this in 5th grade, maybe I wouldn't have been the only person to pass math class second semester.
x + y = 234 and 50x + 150y = 21700, basic algebra.
*Laughs in Math Major*
How do you figure out what X and Y are?
@@cherylsanders5538 It didn't actually ask to solve for X and Y, just provide the system of equations. In order to solve, though, you would subtract 50(x+y) from 50x+150y, giving us that 50x +150y - 50x - 50y = 100y = 21700 - 50(234) = 21700 - 11700 = 10000. Thus, 100y = 10000 or y = 100, so 100 mansions were looted, and thus x + 100 = 234 or x = 134, so 134 houses were looted.

"For the last fucking time, NO ONE SAID THERE'LL BE MATH."
I blaaammmeee our schooooollllllssss!
So good. I love Sassy Edelgard
The number of mansions is 100, and houses 134. It’s not hard. One simply must be a holy knight to understand such things.
...that’s 9th maths Dimitri. It’s not something you can do off the top of your head but it can be done.
Reread the question it very much can be if you answer specifically what is asked
Claude: Who cares? We already got the gold
This was an interesting one, since the number of mansions threw me off.
So, here's how we solve it:
"h" will equal number of houses, and "m" will equal number of mansions. So:
50h + 150m = 21700
Move 150m over
50h = 21700 - 150m
Divide by gcf, 50
h = 434 - 3m
Plug it back into the equation
50(434-3m) +150m = 21700
21700 - 150m + 150m = 21700
Now we have a problem: cancelling like terms leave us with 0m = 0. This means m can only be either 0 or 1. So let's plug in 1 for m and go back to the equation
50(434-3(1))+150(1)=21700
50(431) +150 = 21700
21550 +150 = 21700
21700 = 21700
So h = 431 and m = 1.
You made an huge mistake into replacing the term into the same equation you performed it. You had to do it in the other
Demonic Gamer Azazel You did an OOOPSIE! h=134 m=100
