(especially about Valbar) Yuri cares less about himself and more about those who he has sworn to protect. Also while Leon has certain things he would refuse to do, Yuri has no issue stooping to any low to get what he needs done, even if he wouldn't want to do it.
Thinking about it now, the characters' victory quotes when they defeat an enemy can show character growth too. Ignatz is a good example. He really gained a lot of confidence after those five years and his victory quotes reflect this. "For the future of Fodlan!"
