      I always felt that the Wandering Beast was the best Paralogue, and that whole thing with Maurice was under explored in both 3 Houses and 3 Hopes, especially in the latter. Like WTF, why wasn't her Paralogue in 3 Hopes an expanded version of that one? It really shows how Marianne in 3 Hopes was coasting off of her 3H popularity.
      Also, I personally have come to believe that the reason the Relics take so much from their wielders is due to their undying hate for their murderer and the humans who desecrate their remains. That, and something about the overwhelming energy of the Crest Stone needing a more stable form to contain it.

      @@simplysolus8916 Their similarities to the Twelve Crusaders feel more aesthetic than anything else, and no, basically all the Relics are described as cursed or terrifying in some sense, and as Linhardt's supports demonstrate, all of them take a lot out of their wielders. That being said, I am coming around to the hc that relics and Crests can pass on trauma suffered by either the Nabatean or the Elite who first wielded them, or even physical traits as a sort of supernatural linked gene inheritance, especially with regards to House Blaiddyd. That super strength doesn't seem strictly Crest-related.

      Also remember what happened in Hrym. After wiping out the noble house of Hrym the people suffered due to the taxes implemented by Ludwig von Aegir, Ferdinand's father only for their situation to get worse when Thales (posing as Volkhard) took Ludwig's place. He did all of these atrocities in the name of Ludwig so after he fleed to the Hrym territory he was executed for the crimes he didn't commit which is one of the few sympathetic moments for Ludwig. Additionaly it happens outside of Crimson Flower which means where Ferdinand had the hardest time out of any student (besides Dimitri and Dedue) so it must had hurt him even more. Additionaly we learn more about the tragedy of Lysithea's house Ordelia in this paralogue so sure why not

      @@tomaszkuplowski9258 I actually have a theory about Aymr, which admittedly doesn't have that much evidence but here I go: Aymr might actually be from Nabatean bones, specifically from a transformed Nabatean. If you look at the design, it really looks like part of a dragon wing and/or dragon claw. And consider it can only be used by Edelgard, who has a crest of Seiros, and usually hero's relics can only be wielded by people who's blood/crest matches with the person who's bones were used to make it (In my observations that's how it seems to be anyway, most obvious exemple is Sword of the Creator). Also, notice how the transformed Nabateans are always reptilian but not necessarily dragons, while Rhea is clearly a dragon. I think Aymr might be a piece of a wing of Seiros, acquired either during the war of Heroes or at the battle before the time skip. It's not really a Hero's relic, as Seiros wasn't one of the elites, and also because that name seems to specifically be about weapons used in the war of heroes. But I think it would make a lot of sense if it was actually a piece of transformed Rhea, matches perfectly with it's exclusivity to Edelgard and unexplained origin. The repair material is a factor that contradicts this theory though.

Within one of the books titled the truth of the hero's relics a priest began researching the Hero's Relics and how they worked. What's more there were Heroes Relics that were not linked to the 10 Elites, creating the theory that these weapons were not gifts of the goddess. 11:45 man you can really hear the pain and anger in Seteth’s voice here telling that lie knowing what the true history is and what really happened to him and Rhea’s kind. Honestly Rhea, Seteth and Flayn are really mentally strong having to lie about their own innocent clan, and sort of act like the Nabateans were evil gods, and praise Nemesis as a hero simply for the sake of keeping peace. If Rhea and Seteth wanted, they could’ve easily destroyed humanity long ago. Seteth seems to be one of the strongest in Fodlan and could’ve used his dragon form back then, and Rhea really could’ve created an army of dragons and golems and just destroyed humanity if they really wanted to.

There's a pagan altar to a Dagdan god *right below* the monastery, which doesn't really strike me as 'killing everyone who doesn't worship her'. Rhea's attitude is more like 'do whatever you want as long as you don't rock the boat'. Hell, the only reason the Crest System still exists is because Rhea didn't want to topple the existing power structures put in place by the Elites. To address your other point, the Agarthans went underground long before the Adrestian Empire was founded, because they-- y'know-- basically nuked the planet so badly that Sothis had to go comatose just to fix it.

      I agree,Mercedes is my number 1 favourite character because of the trauma that she,her brother and their mother endured just because they have a crest. It also breaks my heart that Mercedes felt guilty about leaving her brother in House Bartels and she blames herself that she’s the reason that Jeritza became the death knight but she know realised why he became that way and she decides to stick by him even at the cost of her life. Oh this is a big one and it has to do with Hubert. So those within House Vestra are taught from birth to serve their emperor in all things. Hubert's emperor is Edelgard. Now when Edelgard was taken to the kingdom, Hubert lost his mind and went running after her for 3 days. He says he doesn't know whether it comes from love or not. And when it comes time for Edelgard's coup he says he hated his father and had no problem with killing him because his father took part in the Insurrection of the Seven. His father defended his family over his emperor and that's unforgivable to Hubert.
    Which raises the question: is Hubert's devotion to Edelgard the result of love or because of his programming? Was he brainwashed from birth to follow Edelgard in everything and is he able to question it?

    • @l.n.3372
      @l.n.3372 2 года назад +69

      Hubert makes it clear they follow the same goals/path. That's where his current devotion is from. He says, I believe in their C or B support, that it stopped being about duty once she was kidnapped. At that moment, when he nearly lost her forever, he realized that she meant more to him than just a princess to protect from duty. So whether it's romantic love or platonic love, it's not duty from his family business - it's real.

    Hell this isn't even getting into the horrific truth of the relics. I cant imagine giving up my literal family and friends bones and hearts just to make peace stable. Gloryfing Nemesis after all the vile things he did.
    Her lies did contribute to misery, but that was never the intent. She only tried her best. How could I hate her for that?
    Rhea isnt a bad person. She did make some bad choices, like what she tried to do with Byleth. But beyond that, I forgive her. She deserves a break and to finally move on with her life.
    Man Fodlan truly was a fascinating world with all the dark and brooding story telling. To think the first half is kosher for the most part only for...everything to happen.

      100% Rhea was between a rock and a hard place. And Marianne shows the consequences of revealing the truth vs lying to protect innocent people. If Rhea hadn't lied back then, everybody would be like Marianne: hated and persecuted because of fear of their bloodline corrupting them into demonic beasts.

    Cruelty and corruption not lurking just beneath Fodlands relative harmony, but beneath the heart of human species, as you say, the crest system, just like any other, can be gamed by those smart and cruel enough to their advantage, to horrid and disgusting effects more often than not, its simply all about the people at the top and the human condition that binds us all.
    This is one of the reasons why the entirety of Three Houses storyline and where it leads is so horrifying, the price paid for simply conflict of ideals between people who all in the end wished the best for their world and people, it all comes crushing down to torrents of blood and suffering because of their inability to cooperate.

I was also happy to see my boy Cyril get a mention because he gets a lot of hate, at least from my friends, but it feel so unfair given his backstory and Rhea did more than save his life, she gave him a life worth living. On a side note to that though, she is super shady when she does it because she really only keeps him for manual labor and seems to mostly be exploiting him and using a child's need for validation to control him. He isn't taught to read, and according to his and Seteth's supports, he doesn't have much future outside being a servant.

    An idea, sad if true, i had was this: at the end of Crimson Flower in 3 houses Sothis's crest fades away after u kill Rhea but no reason was ever given. Byleth's crest heart is not powered or connected to Rhea in any way, she simply gave it to him, besides that she dies in silver snow and verdant wind if you don't marry her but Byleth still has his crest heart and green hair.
    This could mean one of 2 things, either Sothis willingly chose to abandon Byleth, whether he died from their separation or not, because he killed her daughter Rhea, or she died of a broken heart and the fading crest is a symbol of it. We know this is possible since if u marry Sothis she says she is always watching.

      I never got the impression that Byleth lost their Crest, just their Crest Stone. I think that Byleth inherited the Crest from Sitri, not that it was necessarily caused by the presence of a Crest Stone. So after the Crest Stone disappears, the Crest's power doesn't go away but the ability to wield the Sword of the Creator does.

      In fairness, a LOT of the games' supports (and its themes overall) involve people forgiving one another for past transgressions, both perceived and real.
      Ingrid coming to realise how baseless and cruel her prejudice against Dedue and his kin truly was...
      Dorothea letting go of her hatred for Ferdinand, who in her mind embodied almost everything she'd grown to hate about the nobility...
      Lorenz seeing his commonfolk allies with a fresh and more appreciative perspective...
      Caspar and Petra burying the hatchet for their families' history of fighting and killing each other...
      Bernadetta not holding Yuri's attempt on her life against him...
      The list goes on for a LONG while.
      Catherine and Ashe are certainly among the more extreme examples, since her transgression is both real and dealt by her own hand, but their situation is not a total outlier for Three Houses and not impossible given they have more than 5 years to work things out.

    I loved both this and the last video and it's clear that the difference between the "horror" of Sacred Stones and 3 Houses is one is more direct and the other is more implicit. Yet they still remain two of the most frightening games in the series.
    On the Subject matter itself, the end of the Blue Moon Route has always stood out to me because of the ritual that transformed Edelgard into a frankly horrendous being, moreso because in Crimson Flower, this never happens, meaning that Edelgard's reliance on Byleth is that of a guardian/parent figure than of a Teacher. So my theory is that a conspiracy formed to remove Edelgard from her position of leadership but use the last of her life as a last stand maneuver. Which is horrific to think about.

    Something thats kind of glossed over in the game is the moment in the Holy Tomb chapter when Rhea is making Byleth sit on Sothis's throne, what she's actually trying to do is make Sothis overtake Byleth's soul entirely to try and bring her back completely. This would in effect be the death of Byleth and the only reason it doesn't work is because Sothis already willingly merged with Byleth's soul in the chapted prior. This is why Rhea is visibly disappointed when nothing happens and doesn't understand what else was missing.
    The worst part of this is we see the flipside to this in Three Hopes where Sothis is incredibly cold and selfish because she hasn't been helping Byleth teach the students and actually forces her own power onto Byleth out of pure self-preservation. That moment made me realize why the Ancient Agarthans viewed Sothis as the Fell Star who invaded their home and drove their people to extinction.

    • @dreamingahopefuldream4439
      @dreamingahopefuldream4439 2 года назад +16

      Sothis being very antagonistic to her own vessel in Three Hopes was very surprising for me, I can't blame the Agarthans for seeing her that way at all. I really would have liked more lore on the Agarthan's history with Sothis because we lack so much context despite TWSITD being pretty much the driving force behind most of the events in the games.

    • @Me_tm
      @Me_tm 3 месяца назад +1

      True, but interestingly enough, Sothis warns against them sitting on the throne because then she would completely take over her body and she would rather not erase Byleth. She could have tricked or forced Byleth into sitting on the throne and destroying any possible resistance, but she chooses not to. So even Three Hopes Sothis has some morals on the whole situation.

    This game made me realize how lore and story are essentials to make a good FE game. I feel that this made 3 Houses way better than Engage, as it focused on giving depth to every single character and how they relate to their world’s events. It feels that every event in Fódlan’s history is connected to a playable character in some way. It’s not like engage where they just put together a boring story and just threw characters in with bland personalities that revolve around the main character (most of the time, some characters don’t apply, but they feel boring to listen to and they offer little personality or depth or growth). Fódlan feels real, unlike Elyos, which feels very fake not only in events but in continent structure as well. Like you go in a freaking square for crying out loud.

    The warping of the Crest system by human greed is probably the most relatable part of Fodlan's general structure, and I have to wonder if humans and dragons really aren't so different - for the one, corruption manifests itself with the degrading of one's mind, but only results in death; for the other, however, not only is the mind already degraded (albeit in a different way) but it spreads its degradation to others who are otherwise just trying to lead a normal life.
    Ironically, I feel that this is why Edelgard is the worst fit of the three to lead, because she doesn't recognize her own corruption and how her efforts to break the Crest system will not bring the relief she thinks it will, but only continued suffering for all. It certainly won't heal her, that I guarantee.

      It's why I perfer Dimitri. Constitutional Monarchy is still flawed, very much so, but it historically paves the way for democratic-esque systems.

      There are no such thing as perfect leaders. Dimitri, Edelgard, Claude, and Rhea do the best they believe is right, but they are not infallible and are going to make mistakes along the way. However, I think Edelgard has the right to it. Even if the system she places isn't ideal, the fact that she brings about an innovation where people are not judged by their bloodlines, but rather by their accomplishments, is one that will promote the growth of people and inspire them to no longer be bound by the station of their birth. For Rhea to even continue calling her mother Sword of the Creator after Nemesis was defeated just goes to show how her ambition for revenge consumed her. I don't think it's clear who named the sword, but it can have a double meaning depending on whether you regard Sothis a god, hence a creator, or maybe Nemesis is the creator since he fashioned it from her bones. Divine Pulse is really all you see as Sothis' main power, which to be fair didn't save her from her fate, so it's possible she's just a divine powerful being, and not an actual god. It lends more credence that Nemesis, or at least his people, named the sword.
    To have your body being whipped around like a tool, and to be disregarded as just a sword to use is bad enough already, but to have your own daughter continue to perpetuate the relic's name is a disservice to her memory. Albeit, it is likely her way of coping with the horrible reality of her people. Maybe she is trying to reapply the name to regard her mother as her own creator. Regardless of where the name came from, it still lingers with the tainted lies Rhea spread, and the consequences of upholding the crests as divine.

    • @velvetbutterfly

      While Sothis is only shown to have that power, I believe Rhea and the church refer to the Goddess, Sothis, as the divine creator, as the one who made Fodlan itself.
