thank you i was having a lot of trouble hooking up my usb microphone to my chromebook why isnt this man famous
Thanks, glad you found it helpful! 👍
Thank you, Timmy! This was very helpful and you solved my problem. I appreciate you!
You're welcome, I'm glad to hear it!
Timmy is one wholesome boi
Hi Timmy this was a great video very helpful. Just subscribed. I have a question though. I am able to connect the snowbell mic to my Chromebook using your method. But I am not sure how to start recording and how to save it. On my pc once I connect the mic an icon appears on the screen which I have pinned to my task tray. And each time I need to record something I just hit that icon. I don’t know how to do that on a Chromebook. Can you help? TIA😊
Thanks for subscribing. It sounds like you must have had an audio recorder app installed on your PC, so you'll need to find a suitable audio recorder app for your Chromebook.
I don't really do any audio-only recording with my Chromebook, so unfortunately I don't have a specific recommendation for you. But if you Google something like "audio recorder for Chromebook" you should find lots of different options.
I would probably go with a web app, that you use online, but depending on what you're doing, an Android app from the Google Playstore could also be a good option.
@@techtimewithtimmy thank you for your reply. I already have snowbell mic and I have connected it to my chrome book. What I am having difficulty is to locate ‘record’ button to start recording. TIA.
Yes, I understand that, the blue snowball is just a microphone, it itself can't record anything, you need an audio recording app on the Chromebook to record audio using the microphone. Once you choose an app, the record button will be inside the app.
@@techtimewithtimmy great. Thank you very much!!
I've just bought a microphone which is a bit worrying as it has a jack connection...will this work on Chromebook?
If your Chromebook has a headphone/microphone jack (most do) it should work just fine.
@@techtimewithtimmy what if I need my headphones at the same time though?...sorry to be a pain, do I need a splitter?, my headphones have to be plugged into my chromebook, although it will work on bluetooth with my phone...doesn't make a lot of sense that does it?
I've never tried it before, but a splitter like this should work:
amzn.to/3wc6NMp
Alternatively, if your headphones are capable of Bluetooth, you could pair them with your Chromebook via Bluetooth as I show in this video:
ruclips.net/video/YOPZPvUgsUM/видео.html
And then the one port would be freed up for the microphone.
@@techtimewithtimmy Thanks Timmy!!, you deserve a knighthood!, all we ludites want is straightforward information without all the hype and you have provided me with that!, thank you so very much!
Thank you!
Thanks for that, Timmy. It's very helpful 😊
You're welcome, I'm glad I could help!
hey timmy, i have a dude, can we also connect microphones via audio jack 3.5 mm??? because i'm not sure about it
Yes, that should work just fine.
@@techtimewithtimmy have you prove it? srry its just that i want to be 100% sure that it will work, without drivers or any other hardware (besides the mic)
I couldn't really guarantee it it as some certain microphones might not work with Chrome OS so you'd probably want to test it yourself before you try to use it in a meeting or anything, but I think it's likely it would work.
hey what if it isnt showing up in the input bit? is there another way or is my mic faulty?
the power light is on so should be working rly
You could possibly try restarting your Chromebook and unplugging it and plugging it back in. But if that doesn't help I would say either the microphone is faulty or it's not compatible with Chrome OS.
@@techtimewithtimmy it was working a couple days ago so it must just have gotten damaged internally or something🤷♂️ cheers
can you show me how to use two usb mics at the same time on a chromebook?
You can have two microphones connected to your Chromebook at the same time and switch between the two the way I show you in this video.
But if you mean you want to be able to actively use both microphones at the same time, I've actually never tried to do anything like that before, and I'm not even entirely sure if it's possible. But if it is possible, I imagine it would have to be done within a specific app or website you're using rather than in Chrome OS settings for the entire Chromebook.
Is there a specific app or website you were wanting to do this for?
Hi Timmy I can hear from my microphone but I can’t speak through it do you have any idea why that is?
Sorry, but it sounds like your microphone might not be fully compatible with Chrome OS.
How do I got to my microphone settings?
I show you how to select the microphone at 1:32 in this video. And how to change the microphone volume in this video:
ruclips.net/video/EvhmmJD4Boc/видео.html
But that's really all the settings there are.
@@techtimewithtimmy oh okay yea I needed to turn my buffer size down or sum
I don't think you can do that on Chrome OS. As far as I know there are no microphone options in the settings app.
I have a mic and my Chromebook finds it... but then what? i guess I need something like a program or what to hear myself? IM aware of how ignorant I sound - that is because I am complete ignorant ;/
I haven't any output speakers, but I thought it shouldn't make any difference to me hearing my voice? I'm obviously missing something here, could you help, please?
Sorry, I probably shoud have explained this better in the video, you don't normally hear your voice when you connect a Microphone to your Chromebook. But if you use a voice recording app or website, the audio from your microphone will be recored there, or if you use a video call app like Zoom, all the people you're talking to will hear your voice.
Hope this helps.
@@techtimewithtimmy thank you Timmy, and no, it's not you not explaining it, it's me being a real ignorant. Right after I posted my question I had my husband telling me the same you just did😳😳😳
You rock thank you again especially for your clear patience, you'd be a great teacher 😉
@@techtimewithtimmy hi, Timmy, could you tell which program do you use on Chromebook when you make your films, please? :)
I actually recently started doing my video editing on a Windows computer using Davinci Resolve. But when I used to edit on a Chromebook, I used a website called WeVideo (wevideo.com).
@@techtimewithtimmy thank you!! You are brilliant with taking your time to respond! I will check this one out before switching back to Windows :)
my chromebook doesn't have the ?little circle bottom right - how access sound settings?
Hi Antonia,
If you don't have the circle next to the volume slider, that means your Chromebook doesn't recognise any microphones plugged into it.
You can try jiggling the cable and unplugging it and plugging it back in again but if it still doesn't work it probably means your microphone is not compatible with Chrome OS.
can you please answer my question the microphone you were using in the start of this video is the same as mine its an anko gaming microphone it is a 3.5mm microphone can you please tell me if it works becuase you have the mic
The microphone I was using in this video is actually this one by ZaxSound:
amzn.to/3GAWRQ7
But if yours looks the same, it's probably the same microphone with a different brand name (that happens sometimes).
Mine works perfectly with a Chromebook when plugged into the 3.5mm jack or when plugged into the USB port using the included adapter. And I'm guessing if yours looks the same it will work just as well.
But as the brand name is different I can't completely guarantee it.
Hope this helps.
does blue snowball work for a chrome book
Yes, it works perfectly. I have a blue snowball that I use with my Chromebook all the time.
Is it compatible for ATR2500x?
Sorry, but I really can't say for sure as I don't have one to test it with, and I can't seem to find any helpful information online.
But I think it's quite likely that it would work so it's probably worth giving it a try, and if you order it from somewhere like Amazon that has a good return policy, you could return it quite easily if it turns out it doesn't work with Chrome OS.
How do You get a chrombook to use more than One usb Microphone at a time ?
That would probably depend on what you want to do with two microphones at once.
You can switch between two USB microphones and use them both at different times.
But I don't think it's possible to have two microphones both working together on a Chromebook so that, for example, you could join a video call with the two different inputs merged together.
I think it might be possible to have two microphones going into two different apps or websites at the same time, but only if you are using apps or websites that allow you to specifically choose which microphone you want to use rather than just using the default one.
Hey I’m using a zingyou mincrophone and when I plug in the an adapter with the microphone and headphones plugged in it flashes red and makes a loud high pitched ringing sound
Sorry, I'm not sure if there's anything I can suggest to help with that, it sounds to me like there is something wrong with one of those devices.
Have you tried plugging in the microphone without the headphones and without the adapter if possible?
That should help to determine weather it's a problem with the microphone, or a problem with the adapter or headphones.
how can i do because the computer doesn't read the microphone anymore thanks
Do you mean your microphone isn't showing up on your Chromebook?
If so, you could possibly try restarting your Chromebook and unplug and plug the microphone in again at both ends of the cable to make sure it's connected.
But if none of that helps, that probably means that the microphone is not compatible with Chrome OS.
@@techtimewithtimmy thank you
I will try that, sorry i don't speak very well English
And if o need use two? How can i use It?
Sorry, as far as I know you can only use one microphone at a time on a Chromebook. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's the case.
I have an issue where my microphone is connected, and it's on but it's not recognized and won't work..
Unfortunately it sounds like your microphone is not compatible with Chrome OS. Unfortunately the only way to fix this would be to use a different microphone that is compatible, or use your current microphone with a Windows or Mac computer.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Hi Timmy, I was wondering if you knew if the Hyperx solo cast works on chrome book
I don't actually have that microphone, so I can't say for sure. But the Amazon listing says "Plug N Play" so I imagine it probably would work just fine with a Chromebook.
@@techtimewithtimmy Ok, Thanks
No problem!
My Chromebook doesn’t have the headphones option. I don’t know what to do.
Sorry, this is quite an old video. It's not a headphone icon anymore. Now it's an arrow icon next to the volume slider.
Tanks Timmy.
You're welcome, Glad you found it helpful!
Thank you! This was a lot of help for me :)
No problem, I'm glad you found it helpful! 👍
My USB mic is connected, but the volume is low, even lower than just using the internal mic. How do I turn up the volume on this USB mic? Thanks.
Hi Victor, there are a few ways you could do that.
The easiest way, is if there is a "volume" or "gain" knob on your microphone, you can simply adjust that.
If there is no knob, you might be able to adjust the volume in whatever app you are using it with. But if the app your using doesn't seem to have a volume option, there is another option to adjust the volume across all of Chrome OS.
To change the volume in Chrome OS, paste this into the URL bar of Google Chrome:
chrome://flags/#system-tray-mic-gain
Then, you'll see a list of things with the top one being "Modify mic gain in the system tray". Next to that, click on "Disabled" and change it to "Enabled".
You'll then need to restart your Chromebook, but once it's back on. You can click on the time in the bottom right corner, click on the arrow next to the volume slider, and under "Input" there should now be a volume slider that affects the microphone.
Hope this helps.
@@techtimewithtimmy Thank you!! It worked!! I used the URL you gave me and was able to "Enable" the gain on the mic. When I slid the volume all the way up, my participants said the sound quality actually worsened, it was very fuzzy. Around 80% seems to be the sweet spot, my volume was loud enough, and the sound quality was good. Thank you very much. You have a new subscriber now.
Great, I'm glad it worked out!
what are you supposed to do if the headphones icon doesn’t show up in your chromebook ??
If there are no headphones showing up, it means the Chromebook doesn't recognize that there is a microphone connected.
Try unplugging and plugging it back in again to see if it helps.
If that doesn't help, you're microphone might not be compatible with Chrome OS.
Thank You! This helped me so much :)
You're welcome, I'm glad you found it helpful!
So this all worked for me however, when I go on my chromebook camera and record a video and then play it back after recording, I can’t hear it very loudly and it says my volume is up all the way! Help :(
Hi Chandler, there are a few things you could try to increase the volume of your microphone.
The easiest way, is if there is a "volume" or "gain" knob on your microphone, you can simply adjust that.
If your microphone doesn't have a volume knob or it's already turned up all the way, there is a way to increase the volume within Chrome OS.
Slide it up a bit and hopefully that will make it loud enough.
Hope this helps.
How do you fix a delay in googel meets using microphone? Listeners tell me there's a delay when I speak.
I'm sorry but I'm not sure there's anything I could do to help as there are so many different factors that would be affecting it. It could be an issue with the microphone, it could be a bug in Google Meet, it could be an app or something that's affecting it on your Chromebook.
If you try troubleshooting some different things you might be able to figure out what the problem is. For example if you try testing it with a different video call app you'll be able to figure out if it's specific to Google Meet.
Or you could try logging into your Chromebook as a guest so that all your apps won't be running and see if that fixes the problem.
You could also try posting the issue in the Google Chromebook help forum and see if anyone has had a similar problem and might know how to fix it:
support.google.com/chromebook/thread/new?hl=en
Thx for these suggestions. I will give them a try!
omg i love you timmy thanks
Can you hook up 2 microphones on 1 Chromebook?
You can plug two microphones into the Chromebook at once, but for most things you can't have them both working at the same time.
You could have them both connected, and then in the part of this video where I choose the microphone, you could go in there and switch between the two microphones whenever you want.
Or, If you want to use one microphone with one specific app or website, and the other microphone with a different specific app or website, you could possibly choose between the two different microphones in the settings of the app or the website.
Or perhaps if you find a specific app or website that allows two microphones to be running at once, that might work for that.
But as far as I know there isn't a way that you can have two microphones working for everything on your Chromebook at the same time.
Thanks you solve my problem

Ok so first of all I don’t have the little headphone button and the little check marks that I have aren’t green so I don’t know what I’m doing wrong
Sorry, this video is a bit old. Instead of a headphone button, there should now just be an arrow, and instead of green ticks there should now be blue ticks, but the process should be exactly the same.
@@techtimewithtimmy I did everything. I have the blue check and mic is on. But it is still not working when I try it on apps for school. What else can it be?
Hi Damaris, if it's all connected correctly and still not working, my guess is that your USB microphone is not compatible with Chrome OS.
If that is the case, there really isn't anything that can be done other than to get a new microphone that is compatible.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

If i put bluetooth speakers outside can i talk threw a usb mic and will my kids hear me outside!!!
Unfortunately, I'm not sure that would be possible. When you connect a microphone to a Chromebook, it will be able to record the audio through the microphone or use it for a video call or something, but it doesn't output the live audio out its speakers, and I imagine it would be the same with Bluetooth speakers as well.
And I'm sorry, but I can't seem to find a way to make that happen. It would be cool though.
i dont have that
