A friend of mine's first child got very sick as a baby and it turned out that he was lactose intolerant, so much that he nearly died (thank God he didn't). Once he got better, his mum stopped consuming dairy products and he was fine.
Interestingly, later on in childhood he was fine with milk, until about age 10, when he was diagnosed with several intolerances, including lactose.

@@spirgtudsrubec7776 No thanks. My BMI is now 20.6 and I eat a healthy amount of starch each day. Love my beans and tubers. My gut feels better, as well, not having to eat so much dairy and meat. I feel better with a lower amount of fat in my diet. Now, my problem is my BP seems to run too low. 95/65 today. Now that i'm not getting the sodium from the meats, I may need to find another way to get some sodium into my diet.
However, Gary, I will agree with you keto boys that simple sugars are a big problem. The fructose component of sucrose and HFCS is a major problem and we should be restricting or eliminating them. So this one specific carb I do have a problem with. However, it should be noted that the liver converts Fructose into fat. Could it be all along that the dietary fat and/or fructose converted into fat is the source of our insulin resistance, not starch or fiber (which are also carbs)?
I have also been practicing 16 hour daily intermittent fasting for about a year. I love it. IF shares some of the properties of a keto diet. But, I don't want to have my body producing beta-hydroxybutyrate all the time. I don't think it's a good idea to have low levels of metabolic acids produced all day and night, day after day.

The human body cannot Digest cellulose. Google it...... I was vegan and vegetarian for over 35 years until my body started breaking down as I was a professional athlete and tennis coach..... Plants cannot rebuild the brain cells the brain stem is the brain stem the spinal cord or the nerve or the nerves of the body . Check out Natasha Campbell McBride's gap's diet gap's diet on what she does to little babies that have IBS and can't eat any plants. !

My brothers and I, all strong, athletic guys, quit drinking milk in our 20's after growing up on it. Two of us are the 2 healthiest people we know. I also stopped eating cheese and all dairy. I am healthier than him haha. I also drink 2-3 liters of water everyday, it is crucial. I pushin' a half century people think i'm 30, treat me like a kid lol, I am just getting my first crows feet which is really because my sleep routine began to suffer a few years ago. It took years of bad sleep at almost 50 to get my first face wrinkle. I have had 1 flu in 20 yrs, and zero colds, (except when I was in China, so I don't count those 3 colds in 4-5 months. lol) I live in the city.
I think the Japan carb story is about burnable calories. Noodles and rice yes, but he said 'rural Japan', so they were hard laboring farmers. If you work at a desk and go home and sit at a table or TV I think you simply don't need many carbs and they will pack on.
It's all about fuel vs. work done. Learn to treat your body like your car, you give it what it needs and what it's going to use to accomplish what you want it to and no more. Just staying alive takes a certain amount, so if it's your body instead of a car and it sits, the fuel will get used slowly and will need topping up daily, but if you have lots of fuel already you don't need to put more in and start to bloat the tank. The truth is, if you are overweight you don't need to eat, period. You can live on water, your body will start to use the stored fuel and you can be comfortable for weeks without eating and lose 1 or 2lbs a day. That's 100 lbs in 2-3 months! I did it when I was 18, also for that mission I worked outside every day in July and August and ate a small fat free meal at dinner. And I mentally told myself that my body was eating it's own stores and would be fine, and I was, and 80lbs leaner in 3 months.
My guilty pleasure though - I do, and believe I will never give up cooking with butter q=-)
    Peace

Thank you Dr Barnard. I enjoy your talks and how you make it easy to understand what's healthy or not for us. And by the same time you boost us to think about our foods and drinks and to do even little steps that help protecting the environment and animals.

1:36 We are all told that milk gives us strong bones. Does it really? Or does it actually deplete our bodies of calcium, and why?
3:41 What exactly is added to cheese to make it the most processed food on the planet? What's the process? Let's also touch on pus and manure.
    7:08 What are casomorphins?
8:18 How does a vegan diet, known for slimming people down, help a bodybuilder or athlete stay muscular? How do they stay big and bulky if they want to?
10:44 What exactly is whey? Why is it so unhealthy, and what is a good substitute for athletes or bodybuilders?
11:53 What are your thoughts about low-carb, high-protein diets?
14:45 Let's talk about dairy's effects on fertility and how it causes men's sperm to be abnormal and less concentrated.
16:40 A lot of people fear soy because of estrogen hormones.
18:46 How do bovine growth hormones effect our hormones?
20:53 Is type 2 diabetes curable, and type 1 preventable? Are sugars really the problem in diabetes?
24:02 Why are cheese and other animal products linked to Alzheimer's disease and memory loss? What foods are good for the brain?
26:32 Are we all technically lactose intolerant?
29:31 Is veal a direct result of the dairy industry? Let's touch on what exactly happens to the babies and the entire process.
