    What I really hate is you watch one video and get told one thing and then you watch another one and get told something completely different.

      Yes I agree its absurd they all contradict each other. I think the key is everything in moderation
      There are certain things we know are bad for us like smoking too much alcohol probably processed meats…But as far as food goes no one really knows for sure but increasing your fruit and vegetable intake will always be good for you. Any diet that claims to be a cure all is suspect in my opinion

      The easiest thing to follow is to eat real foods: fruit, vegetables, nuts, fish and little meats. I started this at the beginning of the year. I'm off 13 medications. My energy is way up. I don't need afternoon naps. I don't have migraines. I can sleep through the night. No more late night bathroom breaks.
      The Standard American Diet (SAD) Is filled with processed foods. Everything we eat comes in a bag or can; cut those foods out and healing manifest. No need to follow a "diet" just eat real food.

      @@ajl8198 In the end we believe who we like . Someone is telling us huge lies for sure . Who funds the research that says a particular food is good or bad ? We also have common sense . I believe natural plant based diets can prevent and cure most ailments . I don't believe humans are natural predators , we're not designed to do that .

    I'm vegetarian. It's hard enough to get: B12, Iron, Zinc, Vitamin D, and Omega-3 DHA. Despite being vegetarian I still remain convinced that a sensible Mediterranean or pescetarian diet is the better diet that shores up everything that I tend to be deficient on without supplementation.

      I am also vegetarian and i also try my best to vary my diet daily to get all these essential vitamins and minerals. To keep learning about nutrition, but still once in a while i have to supplement it with capsules :( It's not so simple indeed, but i have no regrets.

      I'm whole food plantbased and I have none of the problems you all suffer from...
      To add on top of that, I get really long hard erections, endurance both in the gym and bedroom, don't get sick and exceptionally high mental clarity.
      I'm now a holistic naturopathic practitioner and health, wellness and lifestyle coach

      @@blackenedblueberry4471 eggs are pretty low in all these things. Unless you're eating a dozen or more eggs per day you aren't reaching the RDA for any of what I mentioned.

    The amount of sunshine Vit D3 is also a huge factor. In med countries. Improving the immune response to stressors. It's not just what we eat but where we eat and with whom. Did you hear about the guy from the US given 6 weeks to live and he decided to go home to Greece to end his days there... he went back to Greece, planted a garden, spent time with his family and neighbours and 6 years later hes still alive.

    I like my high plant based, pescatarian lite diet. Mostly beans, lentils, and different veggies. Some fruit. Small amounts of grains. And then a handful of servings of things like salmon, tuna, crab, lobster and (mainly) shrimp throughout the week. The odd egg here and there. Zero dairy.

      Interesting, sounds like something I'd like. If you don't mind me asking, How long have you eaten like this, and have you noticed any major difference between now and before this diet? (Health in general, sleep, energy, libido etc.)

      @@CarnivoreChris89 I have to follow that up with the fact from 21 - 27, I followed a strict vegan diet vs your typical American one. My health definitely improved only a few months after the fact, not that I was exactly unhealthy prior.
      I'm 29 now, and big into exercise and lifting. I did enough research to come to the conclusion that a little bit of cholesterol in the diet helped boost testosterone when the body was under stress, so that's when I decided to add a moderate amount of seafood and eggs into the diet.
      I'm 29 now, recently got my bloodwork done, and it is really no different than when I was fully vegan.
      I typically have a lot of energy, not hard for me to get out of bed, and I have a lot of stamina when working out, or doing long term cardio.
      Anecdotally, I'd say give it a shot.
      As for the no dairy thing, I'd say oat milk would probably be your best replacement. It's heavier and creamier than the others, and tends to have a little more protein, unless they were supplemented.

    I'm from Spain and I can tell the difference between eating habits growing up and now. It's sad seeing so much obesity in children and adults alike. I'm afraid sendentery lives and the overeating are the main problem. Sorry to say it, but since junk food was included in most people's diets and most recipies are finished with cheese and in the oven, really make people overweight.

    The Mediterranean Diet has been in my family for generations those in my family have died in their 90's as high as 96 years. No heart attacks and we all were average weight and my Mother she was thin. We ate cheese, spaghetti, good vegetables, fruits, herbs, olive oil and some types of nuts, lots of tomatoes, a lot of fish. no one was obese. I eat the same along with my husband.

      Foods in the mode of purity promote good physical and mental health.
      Such foods include (in approximate order of their importance) fruits, vegetables, nuts, pulses, grains, roots, flowers, tubers, bulbs, and of course, purified water (or milk, in the case of infants), supplemented with seeds and herbs.
      To be included in this classification, the food must be LIVING, that is, fresh and raw (or at most, steamed or lightly sautéed, if one is residing in a cold clime). Most animals subsist on living foodstuffs, so to be considered healthy, the food must be both living and natural.
      As with all herbivorous mammals, humans who consume a pure diet normally experience a bowel movement after each substantial meal.
      Foods in the mode of passion promote indigestion (or, at least, are more difficult to digest than pure foods) and overly-excite the mind.
      Such foods are basically the same as above but, with excessive amounts of oil, spices, sweeteners, salt and/or other condiments added.
      To be included in this category, the VEGETARIAN* foods may be properly cooked, but not overcooked, and mildly to moderately spiced.

If one consumes a very high proportion of raw fruits, it is rarely, if ever, necessary to fast. Fasting is beneficial for those who partake in a diet high in processed and cooked dishes. Fruit-juice fasting is possibly the best method of fasting, especially for those living an active lifestyle.
      It is an undeniable scientific fact that humans are a HERBIVOROUS species (more specifically, a predominantly frugivorous, or fruit-eating animal). There is not a single aspect of human psychology or physiology which even suggests that we were designed or evolved to feed on animals. Practically all cat owners know to feed their pets with animal flesh, as they understand that felines are obligate carnivores, yet haven’t a clue that humans are biologically herbivores, and that the consumption of animal products is destroying their health.
      Animal consumption is lawful ONLY if there is a scarcity of (actual) food. However, to be fair, some races have adapted reasonably well to an omnivorous diet due to residing in regions of the earth where edible vegetation has been scarce, for millennia before the twentieth century. But even then, those races have been found to improve their health when their diet had been enriched with vegetation.
      Unnecessarily killing and/or consuming animals is an ABOMINABLE action. It is not natural for humans to hunt animals like sheep, cows, goats, rabbits, chicken, and fish, and gorge on their bloody carcasses. Sheep, rabbits, and cows are food for carnivorous animals such as lions, tigers and wolves, and fish is food for marine and semi-aquatic species. Do humans live in the ocean? Of course not! Then why is it necessary for us to go into the water to find our food? Is that sensible? Not at all, unless, as previously mentioned, one is afflicted with true hunger (and even in the event that one is literally dying of starvation, one ought to, from a moral perspective, as far as practical, eat those animals which are lower in the hierarchy of sentience, such as seafood. Slaughtering a primate is immeasurably more sinful than feeding on crustacean, for instance).
      Milk is intended solely for consumption by infants of the SAME species. Cow’s milk is for baby cows, not adult humans. The logic is overwhelming, but unfortunately, not all persons are capable of reaching such a base level of logic to understand that it is unnatural for a human to suckle on the teats of a cow or goat. Furthermore, like all unnatural substances, dairy products are harmful to human physiology.
      Ideally, one should sit in a comfortable position and eat one’s meal with a RELAXED mental disposition. Consuming food in an anxious state of mind may cause digestive upsets. If practical, eating with bare (washed) hands is more conducive to the enjoyment of one’s meal.
      “And God said, ‘Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit.
      You shall have them for food.’”

      *The term “Vegetarian” is used LITERALLY here, that is, “one who subsists on vegetation”. One who consumes vegetation and dairy and/or eggs is properly called a “lacto-vegetarian” or a “lacto-ovo vegetarian”, respectively. The term “vegan” is not directly related to diet, but to the philosophy of the avoidance of harming animal life unnecessarily. Animal killing is permissible only in the case of hunger, self-defence, or in order to eradicate vermin from one's dwelling and work places. Obviously, veganism is to be promoted as the ideal way of life for all humans.
      N.B. If you are reading this Holy Scripture, it is highly probable that you are familiar with the concept of the “Three Modes of Nature” (“trī-guṇa”, in Sanskrit). If not, it may be prudent to read or re-read Chapter 18 of “FISH” at this point. In any case, those who are, in fact, familiar with the three modes of nature have an extremely flawed understanding of how they apply to food and diet, particularly if they have studied the ancient Indian texts known collectively as “Ayur Veda” (“The Science of Life/Longevity”). Those persons invariably believe that animal products are categorized in the mode of darkness. However, that assumes that animals are actually human food, which they most assuredly are not.
      The system outlined above is by far the most accurate, logical, and authoritative method of classifying food and ought to be followed by anyone who is truly desirous of living a wholesome life. Unfortunately, even most vegans seem to lean towards less-than-healthy foods.

    I'm portuguese, here we practise the principles of mediterranean diet. Veggies and fish are the key... eating with friends and family... i thougth everyone eats like that. Now i live in north france and i see the difference. Theres no veggie soup in cantines, litle or no fish choices. I think it al cames to staying active and eating lots of veggies with a litle bit of the rest...

      The family structure died in America. Half of all families are missing a father or mother. 50% divorce rate. Half of those that survived are disfuntional. Eating alone, by themselves. Eating in front of TV. A night eating out is the drive thru at McDonald's.

      We as a species need to change our culture and habits to survive. There’s overfishing, fishing nets that make up the vast majority of the plastic soup, and toxines and infections everywhere in the oceans. Apart from the fact that fish isn’t necessary in a human diet (omega 3 you say? Eat kelp, algae, flax and other seeds and nuts, et cetera!), there’s also a thing called animal welfare. It scientifically proven that fish are social, sentient creatures that can feel pain. If you love your own health, if you love nature and love animals, then there’s no excuse to keep eating animals. I suggest watching Cowspiracy and Seaspiracy, and while your at it, also watch Dominion. Peace!

    What I appreciate about living in a coastal area in the Mediterranean area, is the food, we eat everything and almost never sugar stuff.

    I’ve traveled all over the Mediterranean many times and have long-time Greek friends I dine with often. The American Mediterranean diet interpretation is not accurate. It is pushed as nearly vegetarian, when in reality they eat a fair amount of lamb, chicken and seafood along with beans for protein. It is about what animals they can sustain in the landscape, and beef is not that available. The serve lemons at the table regularly, and squeeze is over their roasted meats and salads with olive oil. Their meat intake is not as great as in America, but they eat it regularly. Besides roasted meats, they are masters at slow cooking stewed dishes of meats and vegetables. They also eat sausages. They have several cheeses, including Feta, and and higher fat condensed yoghurt, which people I’ve met eat daily. While alcohol is available even to younger people, alcoholism is very low (in Greece). Bread dipped in olive oil is part of the diet. Far more to the point, people of the Mediterranean eat a far wider variety of fresh foods every day - somewhere around 20 to 25 different kinds per day. It is often a little of this and a little of that, which is the best way to get great nutrient absorption along with an enjoyable diet. And yes, they do eat desserts - but smaller portions than Americans. Rice pudding, baklava, almond cookies, ekmek, are some. They go out in the evenings for drinks and walking in the town square and eat their last meal of the day very late. If you are a tourist and you go to your hotel for the day by 8:00 PM, you would miss a huge part of the the social life of these countries. I know several Greek doctors. One other difference, they say is that they are not restrictive and radical in their diets and in their lives as are Americans. Americans are food nazis and many are at war with their food. Their lives are also slower in pace. They sleep more like twice a day, than once for a long period - because of the heat of the day. [The French way of eating is more rich; French have low obesity rates, and they eat pastries and bread - again not in triple portions as we do.]. These people can’t just get in the car to drive across the street and it is true that they walk more. The philosophy is that life is meant to be enjoyed, not endured.

      Read My Big Fat Surprise, Keyes observations was over particular time,easter period and shortly after world war 2 where meat was in short supply. His counterpart actually interviewed the people and asked what they ate before the wars and it was predominantly meat based

      As a Greek, living my hole life to Greece, I can tell you for sure that the amount of meat you see in our day's in Mediterranean diet is the result of meat and dairy industry, unfortunately. Our grandparents, even our parents eat meat very rarely and not much of dairy, unless they produced it on their small family farm. Mediterranean diet is based on evidence from 40s max 70s not on today's diet habits. Today Greeks are definitely don't eat a Mediterranean diet. They are just lucky to have olive oil instead of fats and a variety of seeds, plants and fruits all the year.

      You're missing essential point, same that people do when taking about Okinawan diet. Both were studied in 1950s. So when you say that this or other diet is healthier you're referring to specific period when it was studied and how that diet looked then.
      While Greek are still doing relatively good, Italians are catching up to being one of the fatest nations with every 3rd child being obese. So no, current, modern diets from Greece, Italy, Spain do not align with what we call a healthy Mediterranean diet. Those are long gone as people got richer.

      If a vegan doesn’t note that they can might have certain deficiencies in vitamins (in particular calcium and iron,) they aren’t being fully honest or don’t know. Vegans do have higher rates of fractures, especially along the hips.

      They are falling because: 1. Never were vegan to begin with, plant based. 2. Didn't learn how to eat balanced (raw faddists, orthorexic). 3. Gullible and not intelligent enough.

      @@nomdeplume9852 ...also it makes great click bait to "jump sides"... it goes like this..."Oh I just didn't want to do it...oh but I must give up veganism, I hav just had (name a problem) but haven't told you guys..so sorry so ashamed but must b honest w you guys...im all about honesty on this channel...so now I hav tried (name brand low carb) and I hav to admit I feel so much better my (name problem) is almost gone ( insert before pic w tummy pouched out and slouching and after pic w straight shoulders and tummy sucked in..but the actual body looking pretty much the same (Well sometimes they find a very old pic from before they ever started any kind of diet for the before or they add oil for the muscle afters). Then..oh give it a week to 10 days and it's "How I feel eating (insert name brand low carb diet)"...then a week or so later its.."What an exvegans eats..." and so on. Then there are the follow up lowcarber "welcome the hirtherto misguided ones with open arms" vids...I wonder what's next. They will hav to find something when the flock traipses after some new thing. I think the limiting factor is...we hav run out of foods humans like to eat...cricket proteinavores... maybe?

      Ideally, most (if not ALL) of one's diet should comprise of minimally-processed raw foods, such as tropical fruits or vegetable salads, the latter of which often consists in fruits anyway, since such foods as tomatoes, cucumbers and olives are, in fact, fruits, since they are seed-bearing foods. If one consumes a very high proportion of raw fruits, it is rarely, if ever, necessary to fast. Fasting is beneficial for those who partake in a diet high in processed and cooked dishes. Fruit-juice fasting is possibly the best method of fasting, especially for those living an active lifestyle.
      It is an undeniable scientific fact that humans are a HERBIVOROUS species (more specifically, a predominantly frugivorous, or fruit-eating animal). There is not a single aspect of human psychology or physiology which even suggests that we were designed or evolved to feed on animals. Practically all cat owners know to feed their pets with animal flesh, as they understand that felines are obligate carnivores, yet haven’t a clue that humans are biologically herbivores, and that the consumption of animal products is destroying their health.
      Animal consumption is lawful ONLY if there is a scarcity of (actual) food. However, to be fair, some races have adapted reasonably well to an omnivorous diet due to residing in regions of the earth where edible vegetation has been scarce, for millennia before the twentieth century. But even then, those races have been found to improve their health when their diet had been enriched with vegetation.
      Unnecessarily killing and/or consuming animals is an ABOMINABLE action. It is not natural for humans to hunt animals like sheep, cows, goats, rabbits, chicken, and fish, and gorge on their bloody carcasses. Sheep, rabbits, and cows are food for carnivorous animals such as lions, tigers and wolves, and fish is food for marine and semi-aquatic species. Do humans live in the ocean? Of course not! Then why is it necessary for us to go into the water to find our food? Is that sensible? Not at all, unless, as previously mentioned, one is afflicted with true hunger (and even in the event that one is literally dying of starvation, one ought to, from a moral perspective, as far as practical, eat those animals which are lower in the hierarchy of sentience, such as seafood. Slaughtering a primate is immeasurably more sinful than feeding on crustacean, for instance).
      Milk is intended solely for consumption by infants of the SAME species. Cow’s milk is for baby cows, not adult humans. The logic is overwhelming, but unfortunately, not all persons are capable of reaching such a base level of logic to understand that it is unnatural for a human to suckle on the teats of a cow or goat. Furthermore, like all unnatural substances, dairy products are harmful to human physiology.
      Ideally, one should sit in a comfortable position and eat one’s meal with a RELAXED mental disposition. Consuming food in an anxious state of mind may cause digestive upsets. If practical, eating with bare (washed) hands is more conducive to the enjoyment of one’s meal.

      *The term “Vegetarian” is used LITERALLY here, that is, “one who subsists on vegetation”. One who consumes vegetation and dairy and/or eggs is properly called a “lacto-vegetarian” or a “lacto-ovo vegetarian”, respectively. The term “vegan” is not directly related to diet, but to the philosophy of the avoidance of harming animal life unnecessarily. Animal killing is permissible only in the case of hunger, self-defence, or in order to eradicate vermin from one's dwelling and work places. Obviously, veganism is to be promoted as the ideal way of life for all humans.
      N.B. If you are reading this Holy Scripture, it is highly probable that you are familiar with the concept of the “Three Modes of Nature” (“trī-guṇa”, in Sanskrit). If not, it may be prudent to read or re-read Chapter 18 of “FISH” at this point. In any case, those who are, in fact, familiar with the three modes of nature have an extremely flawed understanding of how they apply to food and diet, particularly if they have studied the ancient Indian texts known collectively as “Ayur Veda” (“The Science of Life/Longevity”). Those persons invariably believe that animal products are categorized in the mode of darkness. However, that assumes that animals are actually human food, which they most assuredly are not.
      The system outlined above is by far the most accurate, logical, and authoritative method of classifying food and ought to be followed by anyone who is truly desirous of living a wholesome life. Unfortunately, even most vegans seem to lean towards less-than-healthy foods.

    You don’t have to be a doctor to see the health benefits if you eat mainly vegetables and fruit, compare to traditional American dinner. But nonetheless just skip meat for 4 days in a week and do a bit sport, things will change.

    High levels of cholesterol aren't bad per se, but rather imbalances between LDL and HDL. As long as your HDL is higher than LDL, you should be just fine. This's a typical misconception among vegan proponents, who usually don't tell you the full story. Notice how there's only 0.20 approx. of difference between the best Mediterranean diet and the best Vegan diet in terms of 'All-Cause Mortality' and 'CV Mortality', but he presents it like there's a huge difference. Also, it's interesting to see the colours used to show both chars, choosing soft, green tones for the Provegetarian diet and striking yellow and orange for the Mediterranean one. Another important thing that he doesn't mention is the condition of the subjects of the different studies; we don't know whether they all were in the same condition. If the Spanish subjects were in better condition, they will logically get less significant difference in the results. I also suspect that the Spanish subjects were probably already doing some sort of Mediterranean diet since they live in Spain, so that will result in less significant difference as well. Furthermore, they should have taken into consideration the level of physical activity, the most important factor after the type of diet. All this aspects could perfectly shrink the 0.20 difference between both diets. In the _Weight-loss Trial in Healthy Participants_ , he does it again. They compare healthy subjects with different weight and those who took the Vegan diet were the heaviest. Meaning, those subjects logically lost more fat because they had more fat. Fat loss becomes harder as body fat gets lower, that's just a fact. And the difference isn't that significant anyway, but he presents it like a huge difference again. Then, he says they measure their weight after two years and the NCEP subjects were fatter than the vegans, but 1) they weren't fatter than before and it supposedly they were already healthy, right?, 2) Did they rule out other factors relate to their lifestyle? Again, we don't know. He makes it seem like there is overwhelming evidence in favor of the vegan diet, but there isn't. Obviously, if you don't compare participants in the same context and cherry-pick studies, you'll always find whatever you want to find, and that's basically what he has done.

      Thank you so much for writing this. I am no doctor or scientist, just someone passionate about food and health.. what I find lacking is the mention that only meat provides vitamin B12 which is a necessary nutrient. What I also find interesting is that on another video, places like Taco Bell was recommended as a source of vegan food and items such as vegan sausage. Many people don’t realize that vegan foods can also be unhealthy. They can be incredibly high in sugar and saturated fat content from palm and coconut oils and many vegans can also experience deficiencies if they don’t take vitamin supplements such as B12, B6, magnesium, zinc etc in addition to their diet. Especially if they are also gluten free. I went vegan for 1 year after being a gluten free pescatarian for 7 and felt awful. I was mostly plant based but did not understand the importance of supplements. I also fell into the trap of store bought vegan foods. I currently follow a balanced Mediterranean diet, that focuses on macros and have seen a significant improvement in my health. I think that the use of certain verbiage, colors, the condition of the subjects and not disclosing that there too can be benefits to foods such as fish and the monounsaturated fats in olive oil can be misleading. This is not to try to discredit or talk down on the vegan diet because It still makes up a large majority of my own, but the point of it all I think is moderation.     I eat plant-based, no meat, no fish, very little oil except what is occurring naturally in the food such as flaxseed I eat in my daily cereal. I eat to satisfy hunger but if I add oil, my weight increases. This does not include a rare meal which may be high in oil, so long as I go back and eat my regular diet. BTW, no eggs and definitely no dairy at all. When I say no meat, this includes chicken and turkey. I do use some vegetarian meats but this is limited to perhaps some twice per week. I have maintained a 55 lb. weight loss for now 2 years without hunger or any damage to my health. My BP is low, as is my A1C and cholesterol and I sleep and feel well. And I enjoy some wine. Not a drunkard, just some.
    My husband and I are retried, we get out and do walking every day. We love eating vegan Chinese. Does not make either of our weights increase but we don't eat that more than once a week.
    We do eat Mexican food or Italian food more often but no meats or cheese.
    We are not suffering one single bit. I never feel tempted to go back and eat meat.

      What is the main reason you stay away from meat? Is it fatigue? I went 6 days not eating any meat or fish, eggs, etc... just veggies... had tons of energy, clear head, but had intense cravings for meat. I only notice now months later after going back on meat that I get crazy tired anytime I eat it. Was that a motivating factor for you? And also I'd love to know roughly how old you are I'm 37 and just noticing that eating meat is like taking ambien for me.

      Recent research show that mediterranean is more healthy than any other diet, IF it is not high of carbs.
      If it is low carb and high fat, it is superior over veganism.
      Also, high cholesterol is linked to better coronary and heart health. Low is linked to lower health and increased death.
      Fiber has no health benefits and body make well enough own antioxidants on itself.

    I just want to say I am from Italy. My grandmother lived to be 104 and my grandfather was 102. They both didn't really eat meat. They lived on a plant based diet. I also eat a plant based diet. However this oil thing I have to laugh at. We use a ton of olive oil. All throughout Italy it is used.

    Living in UK and travelling to Europe frequently the diet in the Mediterranean is exceptionally healthier in some aspects they use much better ingredients and they have a better food culture, they eat at certain times in certain ways and they eat meals that consist of more veg and fibre with meat as a second to that they also consume smaller portions and have alot more sharing plates

    Two or three generations ago, before fast food restaurants or even before everyone had a refrigerator in their home. Working people supplemented their food supply by growing their own vegetables, or buying fresh food from push carts or local markets. It wasn’t unusual for homes to keep chickens or goats. Many had “victory gardens”. There is a section of Toronto that was known as “ Cabbage town”, because people grew cabbages on their front lawns.
    During the Second World War when the armies in Europe took all the meat away. The local population had to resort to growing their own food. Later on it was discovered that people stopped dying of heart disease. They were still dying of other things like : tuberculosis and malnutrition. The so called Mediterranean diet is a variation of the way people used to it. Fresh local vegetables, in season. In addition to some local fish or farm animals.

    In these tests, what people stop eating is as much key as what they replace the food with. Donuts, deep fried food laced with chemicals and nitrates. Removing these horrible foods and replacing them with Whole Foods, and yes plant based diet foods is great. Preferably all organic. Exercise is huge and fasting to.

There are a few who can, through exhaustive work maintain a semblance of health, but most suffer from a number of metabolic and malnutriuent conditions. Just look right here on You Tube of the numerous vegan bloggers who have abandoned the diet due to poor health. Look at their symptoms. Hair falling out, periodontal disease, digestive disorders. anemia, thyroid malfunction, and the, osteoporosis, and the list goes on. Mind you that these folks are so invested in the diet that they built their identity around it, not just your average angst ridden teen. They have built these channels on it, often making a "career" out of it. Pretty brave of them to come out and admit it. Of course some of them are "outed" too, having been exposed as liars and being forced to admit the failures. Look at Matt Monarch; he is a raw vegan who's digestive disorder got so bad he had to get his colon removed and even yet is so deep in the lie that he can't escape. I admire his determination but he is utterly lacking in wisdom. Look at both side of the issue because these snake oil salesmen you are following are not telling you the truth. Grow through education.

      just because most vegans are less likely to smoke and drink alcohol and eat less processed food doesn't mean that vegan diets are Heather at all the fact that pesco-vegetarians had the lowest hazard ratio for all-cause mortality in the Adventist Health Study 2 despite pollution? I can see the ecological and other ethical problems with eating seafood, but doesn't epidemiology contradict the claim that a vegan diet is healthier than a pescovegetarian diet? I don't think I know better, it's just that I see some contradiction here. Thanks for your reply.
      This study on vegans' use of saying vegan being Heather than meat-eater has clearly shown the opposite true with the fish-eater this doesn't mean vegan diets are unhealthy but not optimal as whole food plants based with some fish since this diet provides all the nutrients from plants and B12 DHA and more biologically available vitamins A and D, therefore, non-vegan diets can be slightly Heather than WFPBD
      Not all vegans eat this diet vegans do eat refined carbs also added vegetable oils are and mock meats are not correct to say that vegans are automatically Heather because their diet is vegan

    Some traditional Italian foods such as farro (minimally processed wheat grains) are very healthy, but also something most Americans aren't familiar with.

      Many of the grains still used in traditional Italian diets don't exist in the rest of the world. They're ancient grains grown only in these remote Mediterranean regions. They would've been the grains that the entire Mediterranean population ate hundreds of years ago going all the way back to the ancient Greeks. But now they've been replaced by monocultures and grains bred to be more resistant and easier to grow. Ancient grains are much more nutritious, but on the flip side the modern hardy and easy to grow crops have saved a lot of modern countries from famine.

    High quality extra virgin olive oil may be good for cholesterol according to some doctors in moderation. Most olive oils in United States and many countries are not quality extra virgin according to some researchers.

    You have to do vegan right though, otherwise it's just carbs and soy. I always gain weight on vegetarian diets. I'm much better with paleo, but will try to cut back on meat...and lean more pescaterian.

      Night shades avoid like they plaugue...... Legumes are usually soaked and cooked anyway.....seeds should be soaked and its good to bake or sundry/dry roasted

    I am Italian and I believe the mediterranean diet doesn't exist. Every country eats its own way. Heck, even when isolating Italy, the south, the north and islands eat a different way. In the north of italy they use butter instead of olive oil for instance...

    "It's a challenge for the body to turn bread into body fat"... it's as if the presenter has never heard of insulin. Recent studies around the relationship between blood sugar, insulin, and obesity would indicate that it is in fact quite easy for the body to turn bread into body fat and that is in fact the cause of much obesity.

      Yes, Cholesterol was mesured by rabbits and I believe that was another thing down to Dr. Ancel Keys. The rabbits all died but it's not really surprising as they don't eat cholesterol in their normal diet. Keys made sure that the medical profession screwed up for all these years and is still doing it.

    Studies like this drive me crazy! I have seen similar things about the KITO (high fat, moderate meat, no calorie restriction and loads of veg but few fruits), they claim exactly the same results, have loads of data to back up their results, and I have to say I have seen people lose a ton of weight and look and feel fantastic on that diet.
    The studies above seem to have been mainly carried out on elderly people. Aside from that, they don't seem to have taken any consideration of other aspects of lifestyle into consideration. Things like sufficient sleep, healthy exercise etc etc. The people in the Mediterranean tend to eat a lot of local foods, fresh from the market (or land), they are active and sociable. They basically eat a normal, healthy balanced diet. Things like "Plant Based" and Vegan or "Clean Eating", in my opinion are fad diets, they are propagated on social media accompanied by pictures of beautiful lean bodies and have driven many a young teenager to Hyporexia, in this context defined as people suffering from Vegan/Clean Eating obsession

      KETO is a diet originally for people with seizure disorders. It raises cholesterol but has the benefit of reducing seizures. So you have to take that into account. Do you want to loose weight but risk high cholesterol?

      @@Preservestlandry A well-planned keto diet won't necessarily raise cholesterol, it really depends on how much inflammation the diet produces. If you're eating alot of charred red meat and cured bacon, sure, but that's not the same as a ketogenic diet necessarily.

      I can’t function well on a plant-based diet- I kept getting headaches and throwing up and could not get over my depression- my head kept spinning in circles. I think plants give me some sort of inflammation because when I eat mostly chicken or any meat I don’t get any of those problems.
      It would be great to somehow get tested, I don’t know what’s wrong with me.

    Well, not sure about the research. But, I started Mediterranean diet couple of months ago. My stomach is not bloated anymore, I do not have strong urges to digest food, energy levels are normal? I am sure there are alot of positive things involved in it.

    I listen to his presentation a few times. And in his study they left it up to the participants to set their diet. This really skews the data. If you make the vegan group eat low fat, and give no guidance to the Mediterranean group of course the latter gained weight. But i wonder if they were on a diet of the same calories if they would have had similar outcomes? I cant help but wonder if the Mediterranean group was eating at Olive Garden on weeknights, and having a whole pizza weekend. The Mediterranean diet is mostly pescatarian and would be 9-10 servings of veggies in a day, with healthy fats.

    Plant products do have saturated fats, all oils have some saturated fats and coconut oil contains 95% saturated fat so doctor, where did you get your amazing information?
    For a doctor, you are amazingly undereducated regarding vitamin C. All meats and fish contain some vitamin C. If they didn't many carnivores would be very sick indeed and we're not.

    MacroBiotic food is absolutely superb. It starts with Chick Pea or Lentil pates topped with parsley pieces served with whole grain or black thin sliced breads. That's the entree. Then you are served a delicious meal with Brown Rice Balls filled with finely chopped vegetabes eg carrots, plus beans and a pie such as the Hunza Pie. Desert is a thin wholemeal pastry fresh fruit pie served with a little ice cream on top. Man its great eating every bird from Uni or anywhere I took loved it as did the footballers and friends I took every week. The after dinner with the birds was great desert too!!!

    Hey physician here. Id like to point out that the idea that endotoxin (LPS or Lipopolysaccharide from gram negative bacteria) more readily crosses into the bloodstream from the gut lumen is fact now, not theory. Im not sure when this talk was given but it is well known that this is true. If i remember correctly, increased dietary fat increases endotoxins hitching a ride into the blood via . chillomicrons. This endotoxin translocation increases insulin resistance, causes alcoholic liver disease, and very possibly contributes to depression, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.

      Ok, what I know on insulin is connect to eating more fat, then eating more fat, so it will raise more and cause the resistance, so there is balance between fat and glucose, so that is connect to insulin to prefer to eat sugar from blood, so you are adding the information so it is not the source of insulin alone, but there is more primary source of insulin that is bacteria which release endotoxins, so it goes thru tight junction which you called gut lumen. So, the fat part is transfer thru blood, so it needs a transfer, so bacteria is the transfer like glucose is the transfer of insulin, so there is two transfer system, the bacteria that give out endotoxins. So, no fat, so no endotoxins, so that means proteins has the transfer thru what?? So, the fat mention above from saturated fat so it goes thru chylomicron but you use the term chillomicrons, so?? So, that means our body has two intelligent so one that is us human, which thru our action so we eat and other stuff, and other intelligent is bacteria so it transfers something thru the blood to the cell, so the oxygen is the transfer on the blood. Protein thru blood is transfer on what? Fat and cholesterol is transfer thru chylomicron. So, both fat and cholesterol is high density impact to blood lining which causes damage, or to be accurate thru lumen, and the cell within lumen clean it and is being clean by other so damage the blood lining, so Fat has higher density impact, so fat has higher density energy, Cholesterol is need to form the blood lining so it holds well, so a paste. Fat and Cholesterol goes thru the cell to be clean up since it is not need so will be pull down and bump the gut since the weight of fat is higher density so is heavier. That makes sense base on relative density is higher. Cholesterol is low density fat, so has three that is ldl, hdl, mdl. What cause the bacteria to sense the fat so need to transfer to cell. Well, it is not transfer of blood, so what transfer the fat and if there is no fat, then the bacteria will transfer LPS, but is being destroy by cell, since the cell has a resistance from fat so it can't destroy the bacteria. Well, which is right that it is bacteria based that cause problem or it is two energy based which insulin eat the glucose from the blood, well, not eat since it is a signal so it senses the glucose to be enter into blood. Well, not sure but ya might be sure so what is process of insulin? Since it is a hormones so it is a signal and a transfer system or signal alone. Ya know what is full mechanism connect to bacteria, insulin, fat, and glucose??

Once LPS is in the blood, it binds to TLR4 and activates central nervous system immune cells called microglia. This is thought to play a potentially massive role in depression, chronic fatigue/malaise, and is thought to underly the symptoms people get when they are sick with a virus (low energy, anhedonia, etc).     The Mediterranean diet lets people eat all the meat, oil and cheese they want. It is ambiguous enough to allow people to eat all they want of anything and call it 'moderation', but it's better than the standard American diet because it probably changes people's diets slightly for the better.
    Whole food-plant based has strict requirements with fantastic health outcomes and sustained weight loss even without calorie counting. The strictness doesn't mean it's not pleasurable, though. I enjoy my meals.

      My sister in law is a strict vegan for years, nowhere near skinny. "It is ambiguous enough to allow people to eat all they want of anything and call it 'moderation'" Yeah, that goes both ways... skittles, oreos, and tons of other garbage are vegan. I even did vegan diet for a month on a bet, didn't lose a pound.

    The science shows that Vegan is the healthiest form of eating based upon what we know today. This makes common sense to me. The number 1 diet that cardiologists suggest is the Mediterranean diet. The reason they don’t prescribe a vegan diet is because most people won’t adhere to it. It strictly adhered to the Mediterranean is mostly vegan. This is where I am right now - somewhere between vegan and Mediterranean- I eat chicken a few times per week, 4 or less eggs, try to avoid olive oil. My blood tests show the positive benefits. But I do think they would be better with a full vegan approach which is where I am prognosis. Always looking to learn more from others approaches. I grew up on red meats and don’t miss them at all.

    Barnard cherry picks data to make animal products look bad. Actually, he cherry picked already cherry picked data - i.e. Ancel Keys' "seven" country study (look up how many countries he originally studied). Whatever. It's a completely different lifestyle, climate, level of sun exposure and geneology. Mediterraneans tend to have a low incidence of the APOE4 gene, which make them more tolerant to agricultural food.

      Total agree, when you look objectively and if you're not caught up emotionally in the vegan agenda, his bias is excruciatingly obvious. I will leave my own comment here too.

      I agree as well. I listen to his presentation a few times. And in his study they left it up to the participants to set their diet. This really skews the data. If you make the vegan group eat low fat, and give no guidance to the Mediterranean group of course the latter gained weight. But i wonder if they were on a diet of the same calories if they would have had similar outcomes? I cant help but wonder if the Mediterranean group was eating at Olive Garden on weeknights, and having a whole pizza weekend. The Mediterranean diet is mostly pescatarian and would be 9-10 servings of veggies in a day, with healthy fats.

    basically all diets (mediterranean, atkins, keto, vegan) work as long as you eat whole food and dont eat added SUGAR which is the main cause of so many chronic diseases. So its pointless to differentiate between diets. Just eat whole food and everything in moderation then you're fine
