FYI, when you click in the volume wheel and turn it up/down you are not changing the volume level of the device itself. It's an audio balance function, so the reason you couldn't hear any audio from your PS5 was because you changed the balance 100% to the Bluetooth device you were using. Once you click the volume wheel in, you have about 2-3 seconds to adjust the device audio balance before it defaults back to headset volume control. For example, if you want to prioritize the audio of your Bluetooth device, press the volume wheel in and spin it downward a few clicks. The balance function will revert back to volume control after those few seconds have passed, even if you're in the middle of adjusting wheel. If you want to adjust the balance some more you'll have to press the volume wheel in a few extra times until it's to your liking. Once you've pressed the wheel in enough times to get the balance where you want, wait for the headset to function to revert back to volume control to increase/decrease volume. You cannot independently adjust device volume from each other, it's all tied to the master headset volume. The user manual doesn't do the best job of explaining all of that. Reading through it makes it seem like clicking in the volume wheel will toggle and keep it in the balance mode until you click the wheel in again. Hope that helps!!

Bought them recently. They sound great in 2.4kHz, great wired, and so-so with bt connection.
The sound is impressively clear on high and mid ranges, basses are good, not that they completely deafen overall music stage, but really adding impression to listening.
Downsides: they are super closed - when you put them on you feel air pressure changing around your ear drums, it's like wearing a diving helmet; the volume dials are not quite "bright" to touch - it is hard to know how much exactly you are turning them and btw system sound dial does nothing when connected wirelessly.
I've been using Pioneer HRM-5 for the last 3 years, and was quite sceptical if Penrose would meet my expectations. They did indeed.
Wouldn't recommend using Penrose with BT connection, just know it is there for when you truly need it and don't use =)

I've owned an Audeze LCD-2 for something like six years now (since a little after Fazors came out) and I have loved their house sound ever since. I'm glad their cables have gotten nicer over the years, as that was about the only thing I didn't like.
Funny to see they haven't really gotten any better in terms of comfort. The LCD-2 is probably the least comfortable headphone in existence, but it has never bothered me that much compared to others.

I wanted to throw headset too 😂 I also couldn’t get software to work either.. But that clamping was just to much.. one the best things about Audeze is there 30 day money back guarantee, no quibble refunded me on day 29, now that’s excellent Customerservice.. I will buy the next generation they make, because I’m sure they will address all these issues..

  • @mortifyedpenguin

Yeah, I had the same issues with the Penrose X. Mixing Bluetooth just doesn't work. Also a big issue is remembering the EQ presets. They changed the app on the android side and, I bet they didn't do it for the iOS side. For best results on analog you should use the RCA audio to 3.5mm. That is what EVGA recommended for the Mobius on their sound card. Everything else is pretty much on the money. Good review 👍.

I have the Mobius and it's extremely finicky. It sounds great when you get it configured correctly but I wouldn't consider it an automatically great out-the-box experience. It's an oddity but that's why I own it, it does stuff (very well at times) that other headphones just don't offer. I like the form factor they have with the plastic build but the cups need to be larger and the pads needs to be improved. It's a headphone that runs too small with clamp pressure that's too great while having passive isolation that's too poor all at the same time. The plastic is probably the best out of any in the price range but they need to sort out the ergonomics. Audeze has a pretty fantastic house tuning in my opinion so they can be worth putting up with the shortcomings. Fantastic review, appreciate the information!

@@alexmerserr8894 I sold mine to a friend since I upgraded a couple of times over and prefer open-back headphones for gaming. I thought their build was excellent. Comfort is hit or miss but I found the plastic to be some of the better ones used for that price range. I own HiFiMan, Sennheiser, DCA, Focal, Koss, Drop, ZMF.. If this happens in the other one they’ll be unusable for me ( as I’m told some are more sensitive to the sound) After 5 or so emails and pushing to have them checked I’ve now got to explain it all to another company they use to see if they will check them🤷🏼‍♂️ and before people say I’ve pressed them on to hard or been rough with them I really haven’t 😂 the price of them they have been looked after!

So basically the actual, real pro point of this headset is it plays great sound -- which is fantastic but everything else makes it a real hassle to use, at least for me. I'm super happy with the HyperX Cloud Alpha S. Got rid of the 7.1 DAC it came with and simply use the dolby atmos equaliser app on windows and bam! Even better sound. If I were to go wireless, I'd still opt for the Arctis Pro, especially at that price point there are a lot more positives than negatives.

With no sound playing I got headache coursing levels of white noise, a echo from sound effects within the PS5 Home Screen during navigation, friends complained they could constantly hear me breathing, the mic volume control wheel doesn’t work on PS5, very heavy feeling fit as not much headband padding, ear cups are to small and clamp way to hard. Sound during game is fine id say it’s similar to the Logitech G Pro wireless but with bit more treble. One thing I was impressed with was the USB wireless dongle knows to shut off when the headset is turned off so audio diverts back to the TV. I haven’t seen any other PS headset that can do that other than the Sony pulse 3D. In all it feels like a beta product heavily depending on investment from the high price tag.

Excellent review as always! I'm just hearing about this brand and definitely interested in checking it out. You mentioned not pairing the 3.5mm with an amp. Do you think it would be safe with the Creative G6 if the gain was switched to low? I'd prefer to go wired for the best quality and skip the issues with wireless but still have the feature when I need it. Thank you!

Great question. I don’t know the specific answer, but my guess (I have same amp driving Beyerdynamic MMX 300- awesome, but not wireless)… is that the built in amp would take damage, so I wouldn’t do it… but I don’t have Penrose yet, and I wouldn’t risk it.

@@TheChillee Thank you so much! I ended up deciding to wait for a v2 of the Penrose (if we're lucky enough to see one). This will help me keep future headphones/sets safe. I appreciate it!

@@TheChillee I definitely agree from what everyone is saying that they're very hifi audio. I've read a lot of reviews saying the build quality doesn't hold up over time. I'm hoping they release a version that gets better reviews in that category and I'll likely make the purchase.

Brian- how do these compare to the AKG 7x. Disregard mic, connectivy connection or software. Just flat out performance in gaming. I ask this because I'm hearing a lot of rave with wireless planar edging their way in the market, and companies like hyper x wants in on the pie. Thanks in advance. Mike

6:15 I have the Penrose x and am able to achieve good sound mixing between 2.4 and Bluetooth. Although it's one of the worst to do 2.4 and Bluetooth, with random crackling and popping and disconnects followed by reconnects over and over, etc. I knew this before I purchased and was willing to trade poor dual connection for planar magnetic drivers. The resolution of the drivers is remarkable. If they offered an open back version of this (not the $800 audeze gaming headset) and better connectivity it would be end game.

I've had the Mobius for about 2 years now and in that time I've had around 3-4 pairs since I've had to keep returning them because of how awful the hinges are at staying together. Don't get me wrong, the sound is really great, but my latest pair is already breaking and I only ever use it once in a while on my desk when I want to watch a movie or listen edm with deep bass. I really don't trust the durability of these guys either.

I've had these about 3 months now and the inner plastic on the headband has come off. Nothing that a little gorilla tape can't fix, but it's a bit ridiculous for a $300 headset. It does sound really good though, I'll give it that.

    • @maximus4everjay119
      @maximus4everjay119 11 месяцев назад

Yup. On my 3rd pair. The weight of the drivers is too heavy for the plastic hinges. They sound amazing, but I can't recommend these. They are going to break!!! There is no way around it. They can break just by taking them off. Do no buy these headsets. The youtubers that review these don't know because they are only reviewing them and moving on to their next review. But having had these replaced 3 times in a year and a half is unacceptable.
