    Just want people to know there are 2 versions of this: Rev 1 and Rev 2 . The major difference is that the Rev 2 in addition to the TBH_C1 5 pin cable, it also has a 3 pin TBH_C2 cable connector. So if your mobo only has the 5 pin TBH header, get the Rev 1
    UPDATE
    it turns out that a 5 pin header is used on both Rev. 1 and 2. I'm not sure what the purpose of the additional 3 pin header is for .

    • @Kwincy5
      @Kwincy5 3 года назад +3

      Also, Rev 2 has compatibility with USB 3.2 Gen 2 while Rev 1 is USB 3.1 Gen 2. The additional 3 pin header is for motherboards than don't have a 5 pin header. You'd connect either/or but not both.

    I don't have Thunderbolt TM 3 PORT on my laptop just a type C port. But I have a HDMI to Thunderbolt Adapter, because I wanted to connect and EXTEND two other monitors to my laptop screen. I realised later that to be able to use the Thunderbolt adapter I need to have a Thunderbolt port on my laptop.
    My question is:
    Is there another adapter that would resolve my issue of not having Thunderbolt port on my laptop?
    Adapter that has a Thunderbolt IN and a Type C OUT. Does this exist?

    card is hard to find...why is TB3 such a big issue on PC? (Coming from Mac, where everything is TB3 nowadays). There are barely any mainboards that have built-in TB3 and if they do it's usually only one port (I'm used to having 4!). Only the very high-end boards may have two TB3 ports built-in. Some more boards have TB3-headers, but the cards you need (like this one) are hard to find and then also only have two ports!
    Same with USB-C..mainboards only have one or two on board and something ridicilous like 8x USB-A! Who needs that nowadays?!

    • @LifeWithMatthew
      @LifeWithMatthew 2 года назад

      Turned out to be a Read the Manual situation 🤦‍♂Had I read it all I would have realized that it specifically says to get display port working over thunderbolt you need to connect the displayport out of your video card to the mini displayport in on the GC-Titan for one monitor and a second connection from a displayport out on your video card to the second mini-displayport in on the titan.
      Or technically, I think the single connection allows you to use two monitors, but if you connect the mini-displayport on the right you've only enabled displayport for the first thunderbolt port on the GC titan, the the mini-displayport on the left enables displayport for the second thunderbolt port on the GC-Titan, so connecting both mini-displayports allows for video to be used on both thunderbolt ports.

    • @BiohazardX9
      @BiohazardX9 4 года назад +1

      @@KevinMuldoon it does indeed work on a Mac Pro 5.1 thanks to the community! not for the feint hearted though!
      -to drive TB displays you will need a decent GPU such as the widely supported sapphire RX580
      -You will need to execute Pixlas mod to power the RX580, this frees up the MAC's internal GPU 6 pin connectors
      -using a Rom Programmer (external chip programmer), you need to take the shield off the Titan Ridge, and flash the firmware to a customised Mac rom
      -then bridge pins 3+5 in the TB connector
      -USB cable is left unplugged
      -use internal MAC gpu 6pin plugs to power the card (this is a must as the power delivery on a pro is weak in the PCI slots)
      -once installed you will need to ensure you are running at least high sierra with latest update
      -final step is to install 'opencore' a custom EFI firmware extension, which has the arbitrary code to 'initialise' the titan ridge card. upon cold boot. Allowing for near native TB3 with its hot swap capability.
      As before thunderbolt cards will work as intended but the usb functionality does not engage. however the aim for Mac users is really for things like apollo audio interfaces and large 4k displays for the video editors / musicians etc.
      Apple are aware of it and are somewhat 'not impressed' with it. Functionality is very limited. Officially (without OS patches) High Sierra or Mojave work with it, Catalina will work if you use one of the known OS 'patchers'. Apples next OS might not run at all....
      silly move by apple in reality the very industries that trust their computers the most are the ones hindered by the lack of this technology....

      Does the card have a display port in? in that case it would be so that you can router the video from the graphic card through the thunderbolt card into another tb hub perhaps and through it to a monitor. Thus you could be able to use the same monitor with a laptop and a desktop through a TB3 hub. It would be beneficial if your monitor has limited displa/hdmi connections.

    • @KevinMuldoon

      Thunderbolt is merely video+data+power+security combined with fast speeds.Thunderbolt isn't a graphics card and you need to feed it video, hence why the Titan Ridge has two mini DP ports on it. the constraint is that you really do need to have DP on your graphics card, so if your card is one of those 'all HDMI' ones then you'll need to buy some HDMI to mini DP. The main DP plug to the left I don't know exactly what it does. As for compatibility, you will need a motherboard with TB3 header on it. There are ways to get TB working on a non motherboard but you will loose the security+data(USB) side of it and it will function as just TB devices only.
      If you wish to go down this route, simply bridge pins 3+5 on the TB cable together and the card will initialize on a non TB motherboard including AMD.

      Ahh yeah. I forgot the first two thunderbolt standards used mini display. One of my older hubs had one of those ports.
      My bad. Sorry.
      I can't see anything on the sales page that says the display port supports TB2.

    has anyone tried charging their phone on this thing? oh say, the galaxy a20 series? (pretty my any samsung A phone, a20 being the default at most metro outlets). sadly the USB C port on my mobo (asmedia) is absolute garbage. wondering if i can use this as a "glorified and expensive" usb port to charge and transfer data, who knows, might get some external storage that can utilize it.. or a 2nd monitor.. if anyone can test it, i guess see if it will "fast charge" without connecting power molex to the card as someone said by default it outputs 75w. also for the record, the samsung a20 does support fast charging via PD protocol... i just wanna make sure i don't end up with another asmedia mess.

      Not true.
      Each capture care is utilising 5gbps. Most motherboards only have two USB root hubs, so after two cameras, you've got little bandwidth left. Most laptops only have one root hub.
