    Do you plow Gravel Road in the winter? The road is already plowed I've been asked to scratch it with the scarfire blade because of slippery any advice please and thank you

      Yes I do I am only on gravel and as far as ice blading goes you pretty much blade the road like you normally wold I’d cut the corners and any hilly areas extra good if your out there pretty much try and give them some traction I have to do the same on some of my roads will try and get a video of how I go about it.

    What do you do to surfive when you are not bladeing due to winter setting in, do they pay you stand- by as when I was in the same position as you I would get 5 hours a day 5 days a week 1 ( from Canada )

    how do you find the slope readout on the screen vs the slope meter? Unfortunately my 672 doesnt have the slope meter but it feels like the screen is wrong when I was building my roadslopes lol

    • @graderman140m
      @graderman140m  Год назад

      I’d highly recommend you put a slope meter like I have in your machine as the machine readout can not be accurate if it’s not in proper calibration if you have a new machine like I do you simply press the arrow key to the right and your cross slope screen will come up here is a link of the slope meter I have in my machine hope this info will help thanks for watching

    I’m up in British Columbia ground is hard as a rock with snow on the ground. 14M3 fully chained up keeping our logging roads open also pulling logging trucks up Adverse grades upto 28%. I love your videos thanks for making them. Even though most of the stuff doesn’t apply to logging roads I still have learned a lot watching thanks from Squamish BC.

    How do you keep your weeds and grass so far back without having a huge windrow and without widening your roads

    • @graderman140m
      @graderman140m  11 месяцев назад

      Regular maintenance definitely helps keep the weeds and grass at bay I honestly don’t have much trouble with weeds or grass growing in between my high traffic volumes and we also spray and mow are ditches 3 times a year. Now if you have a road that sees minimal traffic you only mow it once a year no spraying and you only blade it once a month you will have a giant window filled with weeds grass and gravel a giant mess in other words but if that the conditions you have to work with it simply is what it is thanks for the question and thanks for watching.

    • @ericscheer2024
      @ericscheer2024 11 месяцев назад

      We blade ourselves about 1x every 10 days, I don't know what the rule is up there, but here in nebraska the farmer is supposed to mow the ditches 2 times a year, but qe have a lot that don't mow them at all. I cam see where spraying would help but the county doesn't want us to other than just around bridge rigging. I try to keep the weeds back further by getting out further when inshoulder, but then you end up with a big mess, but if you don't you are fighting grass and weeds all the time

    Thanks - looks like today (Thursday, Nov 10th) will be the last opportunity for shaping roads for winter here. It's raining and will not be much time to get them all done. Also installing snow plow equipment on the trucks. Grader will get dressed for winter next week . . . . Thanks for all your informative vids !

    Hi there. When you do this, on your initial pass, when you line up, do you just line up with your inside wheel right up against the crown and then put your windrow just outside of your inside tire? Thanks

    Could you explain the grade control feature sometime?

    • @coolhanddruid
      @coolhanddruid Год назад +2

      It just basically lets you set a slope, and set one side of the blade to auto control. You then control the blade with one lever instead of two. You can manually override the auto controlled side, but there is no stop in the control, if you push up or down, no matter how much, the blade keeps going. It makes it hard to start a road with grade control, because you cant easily adjust from say no grade at an intersection to a 4 percent down the road, unless you wail away on the slope adjustment button.
      I have found even if I have a 4 percent set, it doesnt perfectly keep it. You have to have your road to a somewhat decent starting point. Its kinda useless for normal maintenance in my opinion. I have found it makes it nice if you are doing some ripping and recutting. Or moving material to a low spot. The newer machines have auto gain control, but on mine I have a gain adjustment. That is how fast the blade auto reacts to changes in the slope. I set that to 100 so it reacts quick, and go slow down the road. You can pretty much have a smooth road in a couple passes, even though the machine is rocking around from the ripped up material.
      A video would be good too, but since I was here I just figured Id toss in my 2 cents. Run a 2019 872GP.

    In all of our townships we are only supposed to do 1 round per mile unless it really needs it otherwise. All of our roads were shaped up pretty nice last Friday but we’ve seen 2 inches of rain just about an hour north of Sioux Falls. So hard to say what they will look like going into freeze

    • @graderman140m

      I gotcha I would normally do just one round on my roads but my Deere machine was in the shop for 2 weeks so I feel behind on maintenance so lot of my roads needed 2 rounds to get them straightened out your not very far north of me then you in Brookings area I take it?

    Then the first vehicle over the road is doing 90mph with tires spinning and brakes on. That’s the worst part about finishing out a nice blade job. If people would just slow down a little and lay off the throttle these roads would hold up much much better

      @@graderman140m actually I don’t know what it is but it seems like when I get done with a road one of those big sprayers head down the road and tires grove in their tread so on day one you have wash boards starting…. Same farmer that calls and says “hey this road is getting rough can you blade it” when it’s mid august and 100 degrees with no moisture. Get out there and the washboards are down the road just to his driveway and you can see them continue up the driveway. I try to be nice and explain that if you would not drive like a jack ass the roads would treat you better. Farmers are the best and worse 😂
