    Nice work Sir !! I have six to 7 yrs experience on a motorgrader, but i still learned each day. I got my chance for an Ol boy that kept the logger going, ojt ,as long as the machine was rollin , we both got paid . I would always try my best to make it look as it should . but it wasnt always perfect by any means , it was company roads , so they need to shed water & have drainage. the more i done the better i got , but never considered myself a Blade Man , I wound up working for the county a few years , which was more of a challenge , to please as many people as possible . I never got the chance to follow or watch a sure enough Blade Man , like Yourself. i probably made more passes than needed, but i wanted to be satisfied before i left a road, mostly gravel roads. I enjoyed blading , i enjoy watching your videos too . retired and miss being on one , take care GraderMan !! keep up the Good Work !!

    Great information in your videos I have a question though when you’re cutting your shoulders how do you avoid or how do you flatten the curbing that you create from the cut you make at your shoulder so the the water will actually run into the ditch and not stay on the shoulder itself? There are times when I have to make that extra 2 passes to flatten the curbing so the water will drain which I feel is non productive but it has to be done so that the loaded grain trucks out here don’t get sucked into the ditch on soft shoulders when meeting other equipment. Any tips would be appreciated.

    • @graderman140m
      @graderman140m  2 года назад +1

      Thanks glad you found the video helpful and as far as getting rid of the high shoulder on the edge of the road there caused by either using traditional steel cutting edges and not keeping them straight or a lot of heavy traffic can cause it also so that’s that if it’s from the heavy truck traffic I’d recommend pulling shoulders in the spring and rebuilding the top that will help your road a ton hopefully this helps if ya have any other questions ask away thanks for watching.

    Wat pound compaction do you get with your wheel packer we use big steel rollers filled with concrete we pull behind our graders not for sure wat they weigh but they are heavy really pack the road good.

    • @graderman140m
      @graderman140m  2 года назад +1

      I’m not suer on exact pound compaction but the packer itself weight 4000lbs and I’m able to put down pressure with the ripper on the blade so I’d say around 10,000 lbs or so really works good plus nice being able to just raise it up and it’s out of your way vs having to pull something.

    • @chuckboone7845
      @chuckboone7845 2 года назад +1

      Yep I know wat your talking about can be a pain having to turn our rollers around then on some of our big hills gotta pick your blade up and just blade downhill because they can cause your grader to spin out.But they will roll a road down real nice! Good blading to you!

    I began a new job this spring as a road foreman. I have 67 miles in my district with about 70% gravel roads. I’m a one man show plus a roller operator when I can get one. I spent hours watching your videos when I started. I run a ‘14 772GP. I have 30 miles under my belt and learn something everyday. I spread a couple inches of gravel with a truck and pup and when I get some moisture I hop in the blade. I’m in north Idaho with some pretty steep terrain with major rolling hills and steep grades. It adds another variable dealing with switchbacks and major grade changes. I have been doing a 5 pass with my roads. I cut both lanes and put them both on center line. Then my third pass I put the windrow about 2’ off the shoulder, next pass lays the first half putting a little windrow over the crown and my last pass bringing the material across to the remaining shoulder. I’m getting to the point where I can finish in 3rd gear if I can keep the darn machine from duck walking. Articulate helps some. Do you notice the cats are more stable in that regard? I used to run a 14H off and on when I was building highways and that machine seemed way more stable than these John deeres. And for whatever reason I have a heck of a time driving a straight line. I use the steering wheel and not the lever. I suppose that will come with experience.

      @graderman140m  2 года назад +1

      Congratulations on the new job and happy to hear my videos are helping you out and yes you definitely have some challenging terrain to work with out there and as far as the stability over the Deere machine to the Cat machines the cat is way more stable than the Deere good questions and thanks for watching!

Maybe the one con I can think of is it is more weight on your back tandems and your tires will wear faster but that’s the only con I can think of
