i really hate it when the most evil and rotten for nonsensical reason characters act like they are wronged and like only they deserve happiness. when they actually get punished or talkwed to about their mistakes they never admit, never reflect and are always dissatisfied and angry with the consequences of their own actions

Technically, as the legal wife Shiyi should have been the one to run them in the first place, but the Great Madam didn't think she was suited for the job and gave that responsibility to Lianfang instead.

你首先要知道這個劇的背景, 是宋朝. 一個封建時代的背景, 一妻多妾完全合法的年代, 你要批判男主娶妻納妾之前先想想他在什麼背景。
第二是他娶蓮房是被迫的, 蓮房因為一直暗戀候爺, 所以用下作計謀, 引候爺去她換衣服的房間, 造成候爺誤損她清白的, 所以只能納她為妾。在那個女人連露手露腳都是傷風敗德的年代, 因為候爺是個正直人, 所以必須保蓮房名節, 將她納了。
第三, 古人重名節更重孝義。候爺是家中的主事, 他是頂起了整個家的男主人, 但他上有年邁的老母親。他再怎樣也要讓母親幾分, 母親有極大的話語權。古時男主外女主內, 高門大宅內的大小事務都是女主人要做的。家裏主事的是這位老母親, 她喜歡蓮房, 所以也接納蓮房, 這也是候爺忍的原因。
