My girl is a badass. These servants were so used to giving her a hard time because they thought she wasn't favored by the Marquis. So they felt they didn't have to respect her. Since Lianfang was running the household they were under the impression that she was the one who was favored. Unfortunately they got it all wrong/it bit them all in the ass. I love the way Shiyi chose to handle things...she rewarded an honest and faithful servant while punishing the wicked ones. The little seamstress really thought she had the upper hand but Shiyi proved her wrong. Everyone assumes that it's the Marquis that's rejecting Shiyi when she's the one keeping him at arms length. The entire Xu family can see how much he's changed since Shiyi has married into the family. He's become a better father to his sons. He's more considerate towards his brother. He's finally has a woman by his side that isn't consumed by power and status.
I absolutely love this scene. Shiyi, without unnecessary scandals and humiliation, shows who is the boss in the house and, at the same time, she does not need the location of her husband or mother-in-law. Oh, I understand the shock of the servants when they find that, from their point of view, the naive girl, whom they openly neglected, turns out to be well versed in household chores. They will not be able to deceive her or suck up, they suddenly found themselves gripped by the iron grip of a young hostess. A fearful rabbit, suddenly turned out to be a mighty tigress. As a true ruler, she is just and generous: if you work honestly, you get a reward, if you steal, you get punishment. I think all the servants caught an elegant warning: I won't remember the past, I won't spare in the future.
Linyi is upset about Shiyi's refusal, she really hurt his pride (it was the first time he was rejected). In addition, he cannot understand the reasons for her behavior (after all, he did not seem to sin). He clearly needs to get to know his wife better, and his assistant and servant have new food for thought.
