Yup...he was pissed. They didn't know how to respond to him. They basically kicked Shiyi out of the house without a second thought to him. These idiots didn't expect him to object to the wizards fake prediction. Lingkuan's wife and mother didn't say a word...they were the ones responsible but they didn't want him going after them so they let him take the blame.
Cute how they had the balls to throw her out but not the balls to tell him what they did. They knew it was gonna piss him off.

Lianfang outdid herself. She's evil to the core but she didn't bank on him going against his mother's orders. Lianfang thinks that he's as gullible as his mother but he sees right through her act. The entire family should recognize that he has feelings for Shiyi based on his reaction and his open defiance of the GM's order to expel her from the home. I can't wait until Lianfang's actions are exposed and the GM has to deal with the fact that she was deceived by her. Honestly she should be removed as the matriarch because she isn't a good judge of character.

Loved how eyeballs just went round the room and Lingyi's followed. No one had the courage to explain how they basically made Shiyi leave for nonsense, at least not to her husband who they all seemed to fear at that moment.
They thought he would agree with the decision. Nobody expected him to speak up or to defend her. They're all very clueless about his growing feelings for his wife. They really didn't expect him to go against his mother. GM is slowly losing her grip on him...thanks to his growing feelings for Shiyi
It looked like the Marquis suspected something was going on when Lianfang told him that Shiyi was at her parents house. Then at the in-laws he knew something was going on.
Yup...he automatically knew something was going on. The fact that the GM and Danyang allowed Lingkuan to take all the blame for what they did is horrible. The more Lianfang opens her mouth...the more he starts to suspect that something is off.
I love how domineering Madam Luo is. Lianfeng didn't stand a chance at all.😂
This scene is crazy because Lingyi was fighting with Shiyi before he left for the hunt. I think he is bound by duty to get her back but he has begun to fall in love with her.
I think duty was about 10% while his growing feelings for her ranked at 90%...When he first arrived he looked around the room to find her. When he asked them about her...that's when things changed. He was furious....they weren't expecting him to defy the GM. They just assumed he would go with the flow but his life would've been so much worse without Shiyi.

The problem is the younger brother has no backbone not to mention lacks intelligence so he is easily manipulated.
Yeah, I believe that is also the reason why the Marquis only ever reprimanded him instead of the others whenever there's a problem within the family; both using him as a warning to others and making him become a stronger and more wise person.
I wouldn't say he lacks intelligence. He's the baby of the family and was never given any responsibility when their father and brother died. That fell on Lingyi 's shoulders. When there was the possibility of Lingyi being dead, it was make or break and he stepped up to the plate. Lingyi realized, he needed to talk to his brother and not always be ready to scold.

@@nilajakamau7854 They all realized in the end, how much Shiyiang did for the betterment of their entire family. She helped mend the brothers relationships and also helped Lingyi connect with his sons using gentle persuasion and her smile. She gave him a warm, intelligent and loving partner, one he could talk about his troubles with and between them both, come up with a solution. I shudder to think how his life and the Xu family would have been had Lingyi married Erniang instead. Thankfully, Karma wasn't that cruel after having to deal with Yuanniang and the three concubines, he was due some happiness.
I remember Lingyi commenting, both Yuanniang and Shiyiang being from the same household, yet so different. That was mainly due to Shiyiang being raised by a morally strong mother, away from the Luo family. The madam may have thought that was punishment, but it was in fact, a blessing.
Look at everyone's face when the Marquis finds out about his wife....they KNOW he's a out to hand them their azzes! Even momma looks a little scared, notice she didn't talk while little brother gave the explanation for her absence! 😁😂

She knows that she was wrong and she allowed her biases towards Shiyi to govern her decision. She's been actively trying to push him toward Lianfang the scheming concubine because she's a legitimate daughter. They didn't think he would be upset
Yes, Yes, the same thoughts and feelings. Thinking out and implementing their plan, they completely forgot about him. Why did they decide that he was blind, deaf and dumb. Now they have to pay for their actions. If I were Lianfang, I would stop trusting my mother-in-law's opinion. Time after time, she shows that she knows and understands her son poorly. He is attracted to his wife like a magnet, she is too different from all his women.
@@Irynash11 actually it's Lianfang that controls the GM. Lianfang plays her like a fiddle. She actually used the GM's superstition to get Shiyi kicked out of the house. Everyone assumed that Lingyi would follow the GM's instructions regarding Shiyi being sent away because he always did what she told him. They didn't count on his growing feelings for her. Everyone in that room that was responsible for expelling Shiyi from the house are the very ones that believe that birth status is important so her being an illegitimate daughter meant that she was expendable. Notice how they didn't expel the servants or anyone else in the Xu household that had the same zodiac sign. They didn't care how their actions affected Lingyi. I was so glad that he defied his mother's orders and brought Shiyi back. I agree with you his mother didn't know the first thing about her son. She didn't care if he was happy or not...she just wanted to control him. Lianfang assumed she knew him better than anyone because she thought he had the same mindset as his mother. She had an idealized fantasy about who he was that it never once occurred to her to get to know him. I don't think anyone in that family bothered to get to know him. It's the reason why he was so lonely before he married Shiyi. At one point he even asked Shiyi if she really wanted to know what was bothering him. He was very lucky that his late wife interceded otherwise he would've been stuck living in hell with Lianfang as his legal wife...lol
@@shontelagrone8713 agree that Lianfang completely controls GM, taking advantage of her love for herself. But all these ladies are blind in their arrogance. Shiyi has repeatedly shown that she is not nearly as submissive as she wants to appear. After all, it is obvious that the downcast eyes and smile are just a mask that she put on her face. After all, this is not always followed by the traditional “Yes, mother”, especially if Shiyi is not going to follow the command given to her. She made this clear when she politely ignored her mother-in-law's words about the need to get along with Lianfang. Lianfang and GM openly ignore her intelligence and composure. She smoothed out the insult that Lianfang had put into the boy's mouth with such precision. Again, they ignore these qualities of her when she gives up housekeeping, it is obvious that this is a considered decision. Once again, Shiyi flicks Lianfang on the nose (and more than once) when the concubines come to bow. Qiao revels in her power so much that she ignores the obvious (as do the other concubines). Danyang gets a lesson when she tries to embarrass Shiyi by asking about embroidery. They should have thought about it, but Pride blinded their eyes. All of them lived all their lives at the expense of others (father, husband, son) and never took full responsibility for their lives and the lives of others, they never earned their own bread. They and Shiyi are in an unequal position, she has an experience that makes her much more mature and independent.
With regard to Lingyi, the same blindness. Even before Shiyi appears, he tries to object (he just has no reason to really resist strongly). The GM should have thought, because he sometimes ignores her commands, although not openly. After all, he never slept with her favorite (an outright disdain that became the property of the entire estate). He makes a silent protest to his mother, in the area where he can. Lianfang receives direct instructions from him, but still ignores the obvious. Lianfang relies on the experience and advice of his mother and mother-in-law, who believe that a man will forget about everything and do everything they need if he is flattered and offered a young beautiful body. They point-blank do not want to see that he never was like that, and now he is already at an age when this is even more so not enough. Such a primitive perception of it and alienated all women. He has been reluctant to return home to their society for so long that I would have long ago thought about what I am doing wrong, and not what is wrong with Him. Shiyi is the only one who ponders why he behaves this way (her reason is the opposite of the others; she does not need her husband's attention). She was surprised and wondered why a young, healthy man avoids women ( he let her go quite easily too). She chose the tactics of behavior with him that was not entirely correct for her goal, but her independent character, lack of experience, her father's behavioral model, taken as a basis, play a "cruel" joke with her. The nighttime conversation in the gazebo, I think, was a turning point for him. For the first time, he encounters understanding. Shiyi couldn't contained her true nature. And for him it turned out to be too sharp a contrast between the explicit blindness and insensitivity of the concubines and the insight of a young, almost unfamiliar girl. His hint that she should take over the housekeeping, a natural consequence of this conversation, he already favors Shiyi as a person. Next to her, he feels alive, she evokes very diverse emotions in him, she makes him smile. I think , for the first time for a long time, he had a desire to protect and patronize (and a sense of duty has absolutely nothing to do with it). Shiyi is woven of contradictions: a small shy "rabbit" suddenly turns into a "tigress", who ready to attack in order to protect herself or the child. Shiyi sees him as a person and a man, and the others see him as a means to an end and a prize. He was have a reason to resist, which he did.

Even Madam Ou made a remark about Shiyi's abilities after she thwarted his plans during the moldy rice incident... "She's just an illegitimate daughter" In their minds Shiyi lacks intelligence. It didn't matter what she did to save the Xu family... she could never measure up. GM admitted that Shiyi was smarter than her but she NEVER once changed her opinion. These women gave themselves too much credit when it came to their own intelligence. They never once considered they were outsmarting themselves. It's the very reason why they were incapable of gaining Lingyi's favor. I think Lingyi said it best... "Love doesn't come from lowering yourself" It's one of the reasons Shiyi won his heart. She never once compromised or lowered herself to win his heart. Lianfang learned that lesson a little too late.
Dang it. I've searched through the comments to no avail just to find out which episode this was. I want to see the rest of ir (again). Watched it already. Know that Shiyi escapes and is knowledgeable to understand the significance of being out of her home all night and the implications. Of course, she kept her cool and took the hints to give the Marquis an explanation for her "early morning outing".
I've just got to see one more time that smug concubine have the smile wiped off her face.

Yes, that's the best moment...when Lianfang's smug look was wiped off her face. She underestimated Shiyi because she's a concubine's daughter...but she's more knowledgeable than all the legitimate daughter-in-laws in the Xu family.

As concubines they should do some self reflection, if any of them had daughters then their daughters risked the same treatment they were giving Shiyi. because any children they bare are children of concubines

He basically has no reason to refuse her. Lianfang is good at argumentation if necessary. Formally, she is his wife's servant and according to her position she is supposed to take care of her well-being. She has not coped with her duties and wants to repent, everything is logical. I think, if he said no, mama could insist (she needs her pet to look good in the eyes of her son), especially after he scold them before. It can be seen that the moment he finds out that Shiyi has returned to her parents, he is upset and a little confused. He hadn't expected such a turn. In addition, he is purely intuitively scratched by some kind of inconsistency between Shiyi's act and Lianfang's concern. The fact that his wife has returned to her parents does not look good at all: either he is divorcing her, or she has been completely mistreated. I think he does not understand why his wife returned to her parents, it does not fit into the image of Shiyi, whom he knows, which makes him even more nervous. @@Irynash11 Very well thought out review of the episode. You could already see how suspicious Lingyi was of Lianfang, especially when she was giving instructions to her maid. He immediately asked what's wrong, even though they were simply talking. Madam Luo even remarked on how observant he was when she spoke to Shiyiang. To see an entire family become nervous and flustered when Lingyi asked one simple question was very telling. They knew, deep down how inappropriate it was to ask all family and household members under that Zodiac sign to leave. The gentle placement of the teacup was thunderous in his response.
@@Skydancer263 You are right, the gesture with the cup is very eloquent. The Serpentarium led by his mother, somehow decided that he was disrespectful to his wife. He would not allow her to be treated badly in any case (a bad attitude towards her is automatically transferred to him - a demonstration of disrespect for the head of the family), and feelings begin to mix in here. Mother and Lianfang don't understand that he RESPECTS Shiyi, not her status. The scolding that he arranged for the family is a clear demonstration of his true attitude towards his wife. I really like the expressions on the faces of the ladies when he asks a question about his wife: "The cat knows whose meat it ate." Here Lingyi shows what he really is. Mother and the ladies (except Yizhen) forgot about it, they got too used to his compliance and indifference. Lianfang is a magnificent fool, she did not understand anything, having lived in the family for a year. She lives in comfortable illusions about Lingyi. Nobody wants to see what he really is and what his values are. He's not as primitive as Qiao thinks. A man who managed at a young age to raise a family from the ruins and reach a high position cannot be as naive and primitive as his harem sees. Still, Shiyi is much smarter and more observant than the rest. Despite her prejudice and youth, almost no communication with her husband, she has a more accurate idea of his character.
@@Irynash11 The problem was, the family wasn't privy to the partnerships and interactions Lingyi had with Shiyi in protecting the family and their relationship from internal and external threats. They only knew what he allowed the family to see. Little by little, the real Lingyi was revealed and it was mostly due to the love and sincere care Shiyi showed him. He finally had a partner he could trust not to have ulterior motives where he was concerned. I especially loved at the very end, she let her husband know, without his love, protection and support of her, none of her accomplishments would have been possible.

They have a right to be scared. They basically shamed the legal wife with their superstitious nonsense. Having her leave the family, even when she was at the villa, for no logical reason would make the Xu family be ridiculed as well, since all the influencial families would know. One of the reasons Lingyi was so angry.

this also annoyed me. at first i wanted to believe that since liangfeng was given the the legal wife's duty of managing the household she needed to be present. it didn't take much time for me to realize that "gr8 madame" was allowing liangfeng freedoms that were not intended for concubines of the household. "gr8 madame" was openly favoring liangfeng and disrespecting shiyi as well.
