- A great performance by Willie Nelson of Hoagy Carmichael's "Stardust" . I mixed this NBC show and won a Prime time Emmy for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety or Music Series or a Special, this is my favorite song from the show.
About 50 yrs ago we danced to stardust album and I still remember the great times dancing with the love of my life. Thank

So many thoughts about this vid. I love how he recognized his performing on land that once belonged to Native people. Yes! The audio is so clear. He’s literally playing for thousands of people, and yet the moment he plucks the first note, it feels like he’s sitting in your room. So intimate. His relaxed phrasing downplays his great musicianship. “Stardust” is a hard song, with lots of awkward intervals and a complicated structure. In his hands, it’s an effortless melody. And don’t get me started on the unadulterated romance of this song. The longing, the respect, and whistfulness of these lyrics instantly conjures, in us all, the memory of someone we’ve lost (romantic or otherwise). Willie is a true American legend, at an echelon reserved for a very very select few. What a gift to have all these recordings and to be able to appreciate whenever we want.
Are you kidding me ? Many times during a song , he'll manage to almost whisper some words.You have to strain to hear what he is saying. You have to put in the words on your own because he barely says them. And he puts an emphasis on certain words that the rest of celebrity mainstream singers do not . And you know very well that he left out the first THIRD of the song. He puts the old Willie Nelson "twist" or "spin" on this and many other songs that screws it all up. He's a good musician , and has a good voice , but he's very unorthodox. Some people like that. I for one do not. As for the Native American Indians that lived in this country for thousands of years before it was taken away from them by force , millions of people don't believe that at all.Just like they don't believe Trump lost the election. And NASA's and other people's delusion about "reaching for the stars" is just that. A DELLUSION. With existing technology , we can barely go to the moon and back. The tragedies of APOLLO , the SPACE SHUTTLE , and recent setbacks of the private company going into space , shows just how infantile , inadequate , and lacking the "space program" really is. To travel to the stars , you would have to travel at the speed of light. Certainly many times the speed of light if you intend to make a round trip to there and back. That's never going to happen. That money and effort and know-how would be best put to use eliminating all of the problems here on EARTH before thinking about wasting it on trips to the stars.
Willie Nelson himself has Native American ancestry as does Elvis, Hank Williams, Kitty Wells, Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gale, Marty Stuart, Jimi Hendrix, Link Wray...
I had no idea Hoagy Carmichael wrote "Stardust". It's a great tune and sung well by Willie Nelson. Thank you, Willie.

when was this. trigger was still in good shape
+tommy gunn that is not trigger...that is just some other classical he was using at the time. He would use another guitar for certain shows because this was his tax problem era (88'-92') and he was afraid they would confiscate his guitar from him.

I have built 7 studios. I have engineered live broadcasts from Megadeath to Ian Anderson. I mention that only so you know I have a bit of credibility. I have a million questions for you. My first is was that live or post. Either way it is VERY impressive. If that was a live mix you are just shy of genius and well deserve that Emmy. It is an impressionistic piece and had to be difficult. Personally I disliked the "rocket man" type accents added. That brings me to..no band? How much was back tracked? I liked the studio arraignment of this better. It was the arrangement not your mix. I was thinking it could have been simply a killer acoustic presentation. But DANG the organ part sells it,
Lacy Swallows Hi Lacy, thanks for the kind words, although a bit late here's a few answers for you. The show was all live, no back tracking or pre records, and it was mixed at my studio in LA. I agree with you on the "Rocket Man" stuff but love Willie's performance. The organ part was played by Edgar Struble, Kenny Rogers musical director, and yes it sells it !
