I've listened to and followed the BB since "409". I'm 76 now and guess I grew up with them. This particular song was written as an homage to JFK being murdered. Willie does do a great job as lead singer, harmonies are very crisp, and you've got Brian holding it all together. For sheer beauty I'd place this, "Please Let Me Wonder", and "Don't Worry Baby" all very close. And let's not forget, although a self righteous ahole, Mike Love penned some beautiful words on so many of their songs including this.
Omg..that is beautiful....Can we all agree music lifts, heals, solves and cherishes us....That is beyond a connection that even Brian was blown away by..
I just found this jewel of a jewel. Thank you so much for posting this. I love The Beach Boys. I love Willie Nelson as well. Love it. Thanks again 🎉🎉❤❤
I chalk this piece of music up to the genius of Brian Wilson. The man is an inspiration. A life handicapped by Bipolar disease, yet he has not just hung in there, he has created music that is part of the Rock genre, yet it rises above Rock. I used to wonder why that group of men called Brian Wilson their leader, when each one of them seems to be a musician in his own right, and Wilson seemed to be a singer just like the rest of them. Then I woke up to the fact that they each realize that without him where would they have been, and with him they are what they are. Willie Nelson makes a claim at the end of this video that he was the one who brought the group together for this session. Really, Willy? This rather seems like another conception of Brian Wilson's. When he looks at Willie there, it is as if he's wondering if his (Brian's) idea is going to work, and then when it HAS worked, he says that Willie's performance was spectacular -- and it was. When Brian Wilson came up with "Good Vibrations" in 1966, he took Rock 'n' Roll to a new level. The man knows how to get on that board -- whatever they call it -- and move the little levers up and down. And that's after he has conceived the music to begin with. Which brings me to a pet peeve. I wish that all the lever and button pushers who have brought us into the age of canned music and flick-flick-flick images -- and we see an example of the latter right here in this video -- would cease and desist. You are trying to be a Brian Wilson -- without the talent of a Brian Wilson. H. L. Mencken once compared J. Gresham Machen to William Jennings Bryan, as "a mountain to a wart." That analogy applies today, in my opinion, when so many users of the new technology are trying to impress us with their audio-visual skills.
I have a son and I think he is bit like Brian all love but also a bad other side yet he feels things that I don’t get. I love the Beach Boys so I would always play their music for the boys and they love it and still do. My oldest though when he was 5 or 6 I couldn’t play God only knows and every time I got close to that song he would make me turn it off. One night when I was driving home he warned me that the song was coming up and I said ok but I forgot because I was driving and I let God only knows play and I realized that my son was crying in the back seat uncontrollably. He just couldn’t handle the emotion weird. I think they just have great souls. Amen!
That's priceless! I'm glad you posted this I never knew Willie sang this beautiful gem of a song, one of the best songs ever written I think Brian was the best. I love their harmonies still the best harmonies ever. Great to see the Beach Boys together again too bad Dennis & Carl are gone or it would have been perfect. This song is so dreamy can't beat Brian & the Boys & Willie does a phenomenal lead vocal. I dig this thank you Shirley darling we'll add this to our summer tour. ;)) Love you xoxo ♥
This is a really interesting video. I didn't know they did a version of this with Willie. It's a beautiful song and it always seems to go through my head when I'm lying on the beach lol.
+Karl Mahlmann I love this video and Brian Wilson's comments near the end. Willie Nelson adds some emotion to those harmonies making this version one I like. Yeah, it is beach music, lol
Hi Shirley ;) Wow this is so beautiful with the unmistakable backing of the Beach Boys and Willie's unmistakable voice. I just loved Brian Wilson's sincerity and concentration during the song. Everyone loves the warmth of the Sun. Thanks for sharing, going to save this, Cheers Billy ;)
Willie caresses this song and IMHO (with no disrespect to the BB or Brian in particular) makes it better than the original. It's simply hard to beat Willie's signature timbre, easy style and phrasing...what a gem.
Rick, it was right when he sang "I cried when she said I don't feel the same way" now isn't that the universal catch in the age old story of love? wow, what a lyric, Brian knows how to write them. ღ made my a little weepy too. But that's a good thing, ask the Tin Woods Man, right?
thnx, Rick, it's this kind of recorded music that I love ... it is beautiful huh? The Beach Boys harmonies & Willie's voice, that's right ... phenomenal ... I think Willie almost shed a tear there. Brian wrote it the night before JFK was assassinated, it's an early composition of his. yup, goes on the tour, you're the DJ with the mostest! love you too ღ
@@becksdollfaceone interview with Brian says the night of and and the comment by Mike says the night before. Sorry, as this point I'm unsure. I previously had not seen Mike's comment.
@@glassncobalt we may never know. JFK's shooting was announced at my Los Angeles high school just before 11 am. We were released from school shortly after that, and Cronkite announced his death at 1:38 Central Time. In California where the Beach Boys lived, that would have been 11:38 am Pacific Time. The story goes from Mike Love that the song was begun early that morning (Nov 22) and finalized later that day. Memories related to this horrible day can be distorted over time. Before or after the actual death? I don't know. Either way, still a good story about this song. Thanks for the conversation.
Thank you, Dani, Willie Nelson's voice with Beach Boys harmonies is definitely incredible. Looking forward to your next video with your awesome voice; "Restart" was so enjoyable! xo's Shirley ღ
Thank you Karen for watching. It was a wonderful find so I had to share on yt & I am glad you enjoyed it, too, my dear friend. ;) I hope the days are warmer for you now and you are well, Shirley ღ
My dear Shirley cutest Earth girl & capt of the summer tour. ;) You're welcome it's the nicest and best these songs by the Beach Boys and Willie added something so unique to it,yeah he got emotional I did too listening to it. Wow I didn't know Brian wrote this the night before JFK was killed that's interesting. Brian was the best. What incredible times the 60's were. Haha your DJ with the mostest loves his doll face with the mostest. ;)) xoxoxo ♥ We have lots of Beach Boys for that tour. ;)
Hi Lea, yes, music is priceless & this small piece was one I loved immediately & needed to share. Thank you so much for watching and writing a comment, my sweet friend ... ღ Shirley
It sure is Shirley. Brian knows what real songwriting is about he's the best. It'll get you a bit weepy you're not alone sweetheart. ;) Haha you're right, the Tin Man rusted but he kept preserved all that time until they got him out of it. ;)-p Love you precious saying hello all the way from...you guessed it Neptune. ;) xoxoxoxo ♥ Rev up those engines for the tour I'm with you all the way cutest angel face. ;)
@glassncobalt I believe the younger guy handling the high notes is Jeff Foskett who played with BB in the 1980's for quite a few years. Jeff was about 15 years younger than Brian Wilson.
Hi Billy, I agree, the harmonies are so beautiful! I just had to share this small piece of music. Brian Wilson's voiced response near the end was a nice touch in the video, also. So happy you enjoyed it; thanks so much for your comments, Shirley ღ
Brian. You’re a genius. Thanks.
❤
A Beautiful Thing happened that day and Today since I just discovered This Right here🤯🤯🤯🤯 I had no idea that it happened!!
I was just singing the original one in my head, and it still brings me to tears 😢😢!!
So fricken' magical.
Great music translates to any genre. 💖🎶💖
How Lovely. Willyies voice makes me cry, he sounds so sad.
melancholy
You know you are a legendary superstar performer when the Beach Boys are your backup singers.
Very true!
Willie has a pure beautiful voice, I love you Willie! God Bless you Brian!

Sooo good
Yes, Mike can sometimes be a dick - he embarrasses the rest of the band, inc. poor Brian.
I didn’t think this song could get any more beautiful…I stand corrected.
Love their harmonizing!! And Willie is a wonderful addition!! 🥰
Believe it or not first time I've heard the warmth of the Sun by Willie Nelson and it is my new favorite I can't believe how great it is. I dig it!
Some people should live forever!
Omg..that is beautiful....Can we all agree music lifts, heals, solves and cherishes us....That is beyond a connection that even Brian was blown away by..

Willie and The Beach Boys? What could be better?
It's my personal theme song . . . now a geezer
Fantastic!
Beautiful song. 🤗🤗
How frigging groovy is this?? Just found this and so glad!
wow that's something. Willie is so laid back and smooth
There are so many performers who have recorded a "Willie" album. Nothing like that Willie effect on the music.
Happy Birthday Willie!
Perfect song for Willie.
Never knew that Willie did a song with the Beach Boys! Just proves how versatile he is!
Magnificent!
