it's about time. All the horror stories make people afraid to try. I keep looking for encouragement but almost never get it watching videos. I tapered for 5 weeks off xanax cutting in half every 2-3 weeks and had very few problems. I'm on day 1 without any and so far it's all good. Hard to relax but nothing horrible. I really hope it continues. Great video dude. We need way more like this.

@@benzapp1 do you know what strange is I never knew I was on a benzo when I was 23 years old. I am now 63. I took that benzo for three years and I got pregnant and just no one told me so I stopped taking it had no problem now that I have so much information I’m taking mirtazapine for 25 years and having such a difficult time getting off of it they also put me on trazodone to offset some of the mirtazapine, restless leg syndrome, I went off of the trazodone pretty easily. It took about three weeks of feeling a little uncomfortable and I’ve been off the trazodone for a year. Now I’m headed to get off of mirtazapine and really would like prayers and support. It’s a bit more difficult.

I agree that’s why I made my channel. Positive Benzo Withdrawal. I saw a need for positive stories of healing. I highly encourage people to start their own channel and archive their journey both the waves and the windows. Show the progress. I had to go back and watch my own videos that I made 10 things I do daily and 25 things I did to get out of the worst wave just last week during a setback. They were SO helpful because I had totally forgotten my coping tools. Archiving your journey will snow proof that the healing is happening. Thanks for your good Work!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽

It seems that people are just sitting around waiting for their symptoms to go away. Misery loves company and I truly feel for everyone who is still experiencing symptoms. I had to do whatever it took to pick myself up and go. I needed to excercise at the gym when I felt like i couldn’t walk, even if I just did 20 minutes on the elliptical. I had to go for walks, I had to start going to AA. I had to start going to church. I had to volunteer my time, I had to eat better. I couldn’t just sit around, wither away and die. I go to therapy at the VA and anxiety groups there as well. You don’t really hear about what people are doing to overcome their symptoms. It just sounds like they are waiting around for everything to get better. Medication withdrawal doesn’t work that way AND LIFE SURE AS HELL DOESNT WORK THAT WAY. If I sat around every time I started swearing feeling anxiety come on, if I sat around when I had strange pains in my legs and feet, I would’ve driven myself crazy. What I want to hear and read about is : WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR YOUR RECOVERY BESIDES SITTING AROUND WAITING FOR SYMPTOMS TO START AND STOP. We have to force ourselves to do things. The brain WILL once again achieve homeostasis, as well as the CNS. But if your sitting around reading stories in Benzo buddies written by other people who are just sitting around expecting to get better, what in the world do you expect? “Oh my left toe hurt today and my tinnitus was bad....” great! DO SOMETHING no matter how bad you feel. Don’t journal all the bad stuff. I made an hourly journal and a daily regimented schedule that I had to stick to. If I deviated I would feel sorry for myself and end up on Benzo buddies. I don’t even drink but I go to a 7am AA meeting every single day no matter how terrible I felt. Some days I would pike twice before I left my house because my anxiety was so bad, but you know what, I still did it and felt good about myself. The way I see it, I could either stay in misery or I can finally live, not just exist. I hope people read this and take it seriously. I am going to start making positive videos as well. There needs to be more of us. Yes, it was an awful few months, but we can handle it and get through it. For those who are protracted, is it really all bad? I keep hearing stories from people who are waiting to feel “normal” again after being on benzos for 10 years. I got news for you cupcake, you will never be the “same” as you were 10 years ago even if you never took medication. It’s called life and we age. What were you doing to learn how to cope with anxiety the 20 years you were on a benzo? What are you doing today treat it now? Medication is NOT the answer. Sorry, there is no magic panacea. It takes hard work to get well. It takes being in uncomfortable situations. It takes every bit of energy you have to want to live, because what’s the alternative? Death. So we are either living or dying and I got news, I’m done dying. Time to start living

E P you are recovered my friend. Let me ask you a question, why were you on an anti anxiety medication in the first place? I would guess for anxiety... guess what, benzos do not cure anxiety, they suppress feelings and make it so we don’t have to deal with that horrid feeling - AT FIRST - then it turns on us and makes life worse. I am happy you are forcing yourself to do things, but what are you doing for anxiety? I don’t even drink and I go to AA everyday, have a sponsor, and work the steps. I see a therapist at the VA once week, as well as attend mindfulness/CBT groups to learn how to live a life worth living. While I was on clonazapam, I was only existing. When I came off of it, I was less than existing. It was t until I decided I am NOT going to be one of these people who complain that my left testicle hursts so I must be having benzo withdrawal symptoms THREE YEARS LATER... please please please do yourself a favor, don’t read or listen to these people in internet land. They are on psych meds for a reason, think about that for a sec... A bit of self disclosure : lets just say my profession is somewhere in the mental health field. I am not denying anyone’s symptoms, what I am confused about is what they are doing about it. If muscles are sore, go to the gym. If you don’t have a gym, do push ups, yoga, go for walks. If you have anxiety ask yourself this: WHY THE HELL DID I GET ON ANTI ANXIETY MEDS IN THE FIRST PLACE....TEN YEARS AGO???. I don’t understand how someone can be put on ANY psych med and not do the foot work. There is no panacea. Medication should only be prescribed as an adjunct to some kind of therapy, and to boot, there should be an end game. I am sick of people blaming there doctors for putting them on a CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE and they say “my stupid doctor never told me...” if you are on an SSRI for depression, what are you doing for your depression in regards to actual self work to get out of the depression? Are you just staying on your Prozac and expecting life to just become wonderful? I got news for everyone, there is no pill that cures ANY mental illnesses. And I still skeptical that half of these people on psych meds even have mental illnesses. It is a business with a revolving door. The only way off the merry go round is to work your way out of depression or anxiety. I know it sucks and could be tough. But if you are doing something daily to actually help your symptoms, you should and could come off all the garbage because it’s poison. Hell, they don’t even know exactly how 90% of these meds work. For Christ sakes, they are prescribing some of the most powerful antipsychotics to people for sleep. Do you understand the impact that has on the human brain? Anyway, I’m getting off my soap box. Any question please drop a line. If I offended someone, I am sorry. I am telling you what your friggen psych should have told you from day one. Only difference is I a not taking your money.
      Have a blessed night

UPDATE on my previous comment: I am now completely OFF of Abilify!! YAY!
I had a bunch of withdrawal symptoms: Emotionally drained, overwhelmed, dizzy spells, nauseous, headaches, crying spells, panic attacks, and a general feeling of unease. HOWEVER, they subsided and now?? My hair isn't falling out anymore! My drive to be intimate is back! I'm not hungry ALL the time! I'm more fun, have more energy, etc... NOTE that these may not be typical results for everyone. Just for me, and what other pills I'm on. Everyone is different.

My wife WAS a horror story. We both lost a year of our lives to Xanax and Prozac. Her doctor wanted to up the dosages, but after 4 car crashes and not being able to function like a normal human being for months, my wife and I decided that she should wean off these drugs. For an entire year she was a shut in dealing with horid symtoms that started to subside in the 11 month. We got a new doctor who helped her to finish out the withdrawal with a minimum amount of drugs. She is now better that she was before the anti-depressants and close to 100% drug free.

Same here. Withdrawal from hell itself. But if you're moving through hell, you just should keep going... it gets better for sure, that doesn't change the fact that withdrawal symptoms are like a neverending nightmare for many.
Shrinks should inform people upfront, about the addictive nature of their drugs, side effects and the horrific withdrawal symptoms as well as possible longterm and irreversible damage they can cause.

I've been on and off antipsychotics, and the "worst" part of being off them was, I started hearing the voices of my psychosis again. However, now, after doing shadow work with the voice of mine, I now see the psychosis voices as golden opportunities of going deeper within myself to do more shadow work. The voice transformed because of that, and that was a rich experience, hard work but something I think everyone can do for themselves.

I am one who is not having the horror feelings like everyone I have seen. I have been on Clonazapam for 20 years. 1.5ml a day. I started tapering 5/10 % off every 2 weeks or less. I started last October 2018 and I am down to .25ml at night. I have gotten a few sweats at night and a few nights where I only slept 3 hours. But I started taking melatonin and that helps me sleep about 7 hours.
I had all the bad symptoms before they put me on clonazapam, it helped me over the years, but I decided last year to taper off. I was shocked that all the horror has not come back to me. So I am going to taper off the .25 in about 2 months. My last doses will be every other day.
I will listen to my body on this part. Like you said, all these videos had me so scared to try and go off. But I am confident I will be free soon. Thank you for the positive vibes.

Thank you for this video, I’ve gone through this before cold turkey. It was terrible and I didn’t think I ever going to be myself again. While I was living in terror I was telling my mom about the negative things because I thought that I was gonna be this way forever, but then she told me that she has already seen so many differences already. I was so focused and scared of my withdrawal symptoms that were constantly present, that I didn’t even see the improvements that I had been making. I was slowly getting better but I was too blinded by my fear and withdrawal symptoms that I wasn’t even trying to engage in any healthy activities, my diet, and working out. My situation is very complex and I’m going to be getting tapered instead of getting cut off cold turkey. I still have the same fears about when my taper ends and I’ve been reading about all the terrible symptoms. However after my mom kept urging me to watch this specific video I am finally glad that I did. I have to start doing things right now for my mind and body to be healthy even before I start my tapering process. That being said, when I look back at how I was doing when I was cut off cold turkey I was improving, I was just too scared too notice it.

Thank you so much for posting this. Everyone has a different journey, has a different physiology and a different psyche. I’m at the tail end of my benzo taper and although it has not been pleasant, I’m pushing my way through it and I will succeed. I’m also a tinnitus sufferer and that affliction is also subject to much misinformation and ignorance in the so called medical professional community and has many on line “horror stories” that give people a false sense of hopelessness and doom that is totally unfounded. Take heart, my brothers and sisters. You can do this! Be patient with yourselves and trust in God. Be well and be happy. 😊

Man I needed to hear this. Yes…this is hell and I’m only a month into it. But you’re right. We need to focus on positivity. If we weren’t motivated to change then why in earth would we choose to quit. No part of this is fun. But I have to cling to the idea that a better life exists. If I’m wrong I’ll deal with that in time. But for now, this is honestly the first encouraging message I’ve heard. Yes it’s hell. Whether we share responsibility in the hell we’re going through or not…what does it matter? In the end, this is reality and we’ve probably been trying to avoid it (speaking for myself) for awhile.

Quitting cold turkey is like wanting to immediately land a plane when you are in mid air by switching it off. Thanks a lot for sharing this, youtube is flooded with those type of videos, often made by people quitting cold turkey by themselves without any medical advice by an expert (a psychiatrist) OBVIOUSLY its gonna hurt a lot. There are other ways of achieving this, like gradually lessing the dose.

They are not "horror" stories. It is actually an issue. Receptor adaptation does occur, when taking anti depressants, and the more receptors the drugs act upon, the more potential issues to occur once drug cessation has occurred. As the brain is such a complex system, a heterogenous response is likely. So some may indeed experience severe symptoms, and some may not.
If this is mentioned in the video, I apologise. But I just wanted to put this out there. As brain neurochemistry and diversity is vast. And reaction to these powerful drugs, are not predictable.

Please never quit cold turkey. Go to a Compounding Pharmacy and taper down 10% every 4 to 6 weeks. I was on 75 mg of Effexor for 15 years and have been tapering for about a year. I am now down to 7.2 mg. I take Super B vitamins, a good multivitamin and Omega 3 fish oil. The shocks have stopped, no more anxiety, motivation has improved, able to cry when watching a sad movie. I’m still sleeping 12 hours/day with occasional mood change, but I can finally feel some calm in my body. Good luck to everyone.

@@chrisitzsimple4649 - I don't recommend doing it the way I did it. But since you ask, I began tapering in April of 2018 at a dose of 225 mg/day and jumped off in August of the same year after the lowest available commercially prepared dose, 37.5 mg. This would be considered a very rapid taper, not much better than a cold turkey. I just didn't know any better.
Unfortunately, the withdrawal proved too difficult for me and, at the prescriber's recommendation, I began taking 7.5 mg remeron aka mirtazapine in November of 2018 to mitigate the symptoms. When I asked the prescriber if mirtazapine would be hard to discontinue, like venlafaxine, she said, "It shouldn't be." SHE WAS WRONG!
Long story short, I subsequently had to taper very slowly off mirtazapine. If I had it to do over again, I would taper slowly and carefully off venlafaxine in the first place and skip the mirtazapine altogether.
Everyone is different, of course. I was on various AD (so-called "anti-depressant") drugs for many years, and that may be why I had a rough ride.

I think this is pretty simplistic. It is a natural trajectory of an injury: denial, anger, acceptance, grief, healing. It is easy to see these steps affecting a person going through withdrawal. AND these "horror stories" do serve a purpose, they let you know you are not alone and that other people are persevering and that you can too. And many do come out and tell about them getting better later on - which is tremendously helpful. Seeing the hell they were going through and then coming out on the other side. I don't think I could have managed without getting information so that I could dig into strategies for getting better: supplements, exercise, fasting, etc. Fasting has been the one big game changer for me. I never would have known about it if I merely "stayed positive" from the start: I don't see how anyone could honestly advocate for this, while I do see the benefit of it at a later date. The grieving and accepting of the horror was healing in itself: crying and emotion activates the parasympathetic nervous system and that is of tremendous benefit, and helps regulate.

  • @jonkip6903

Finally, somebody is noticing that all the 'horror" stories can be really very triggering..finding information that I can actually use is fairly simple, but, if I'm not careful, I can get sucked into the issues that others are having. If only everybody was the same, these things would be much simpler. Of course then things would become boring. Your video makes great sense, no offense. Thanks

The Lovely Grind Thank you and I definitely will keep watching more to learn how your withdrawal went. I have not started to withdrawal from 0.5 mg of klonapin but I now know why i got so sick in 2015...it was either an unexpected withdrawal from Ativan or tolerance. This is the stuff I’m just learning after all these years. I thought it was so many other illnesses like MS, auto Immune issues , and even a nervous breakdown. No doctor knew what was wrong with me. I now know it was from Benzodiazepines. Because of it all i had to go on klonapin to get through it because we didn’t know what was wrong with me and the only thing we knew was I needed something to get through it. Now I have to make some serious decisions of where i want this path to go. I originally started Benzodiazepines for panic attacks so i worry those will come back too. I am really afraid to go back to what I faced in 2015 but I may have to. Thanks again!

I admit I am tempted when I see how folks haven't done their homework, but I can't fix them. I can share how I am doing a very slow taper as I took clonazepam so many years (low dose or not) and it's just common sense, that the wd has to be slow, and listen to your body to know when each taper has become stable for you, or if it's too large a cut, so you can updose to previous amount. I had to do a risk/benefit analysis when I got on klonopin. I could continue not being able to go to a restaurant and order a good meal then when it's set before me I couldn't eat it cuz I had a sick ball of anxiety in my stomach. I could continue not bring able to read a book or the bible cuz I couldnt retain what I had just read without reading it over and over again. I could continue to get by on 15 to 30 minutes of sleep a night. I could continue isolating from friends and family. I could continue not being able to leave my bedroom nor take care of basic household cleaning needs. I have had symptoms like this since I was a small child in the 70s so it's not like I've had some huge trauma in life. I could go on and on. I don't feel the need to get to the "root cause" of my anxiety. It is what it is. After I did the risk/benefit analysis I came to the conclusion to go on and stay on klonopin. It's done nothing but help. Yes. I am probably dependent but NOT an addict. People who have benzo success stories need to be more vocal.

Thank you for this. I'm trying to get off of Abilify right now and it's hard. I *PROBABLY* should have waited until my semester ended (I'll still be tapering off during finals), but here we are. The horror stories are BRUTAL, but yes.. because the only people talking about it are the people in pain at the time of posting, it's like the opposite of survivorship bias. We think that it's all that way, when it's not that way for everyone. And we don't see what's to come. I saw something that said that keeping your spirits up is crucial to survive ... and then gave a huge list of potential withdrawal symptoms. OOF! I was thinking "well how do I keep my spirits up in the midst of all THIS!??" Thank you for your video, brother. It really helped put my mind right.

I've decided to get of effexor more quickly as I had no hard withdrawal symptoms the first time I tried to discontinue. Only protracted anxiety. Survivingantidepressants really scared me off with those horror story's and 10 percent taper which will take 2,5 years wtfff. I want to get off this shit as soon as possible because the emotional numbness is sooo frustrating. I'll be trough the taper in around 4 to 5 months.

Barry McDonagh at DARE tells a story of a person in a jail cell desperate to get out. While trapped in a prison of bars Barry tells the inmate to look around his neck where he finds a key that unlocks the door and sets him free. To me, the jail bars represent the frightening stories of getting off benzos and SSRIs so abundant on the web. The key to freedom is always within our reach. It’s risky, sometimes dangerous, and at times painful, but it sure beats living in chains based on someone else’s experience.

It's so true that some people with positive experience do not post as much. I did not think about posting anything since I did not experience any side effects from tapering many drugs (effexor/rivotril) before that I did not even know those side effects exist! However, these horror story made me anxious when before I tapered another drug (seroquel xr). And guess what? I am one of those who was anxious about using and tapering off drugs and end up having no horrible side effects from the drug itself. I guess I might be lucky. I don't know. Any symptoms or experience are literally from my worries from the horror stories. There is nothing to suppress my emotions so I have to control my emotions a bit more. But other than that, the drugs I was prescribed worked well and my tapering journey has been even better than what I can ask for. I know some people really go through bad tapering experience. But if you have not tried it yourself, there's no use worrying and making things worse! I hope this helps your minds. An advice I can give for my smooth is to trust your psychiatrist and go slow :) Have a nice day!

I got down to 8mg diazepam from 1mg klonopin (over halfway there). My life fell apart after that due to other factors, and I lost hope. I’m still struggling to find that hope. But now when I reduce my dose, it’s awful. Not because I’m getting worse symptoms, but because I let hopelessness consume me. I’m still struggling with severe depression and some days I don’t see a way out, but I know that 80% of it is my lack of faith that I will get better and the fact that I’m despairing instead of living. The moment I found the horror stories was the moment the symptoms became unbearable. The minute I manage to leave the house, most of the anxiety disappears. I’m not suffering from the symptoms, I’m suffering because I stopped living. I know I can do this, and you can too.

I somehow kicked 8mg/2mg suboxone after over 10 years. Barely felt a thing. Now its over a month later and I'm still fine. Better every day. Mood is stable and positive. My chemicals must have just lined up.

Truly thanks, I am on 3 mg of Lorazepam a day and I haven't started my ween completely yet and all I've been doing was watching horrible withdraw videos of here on RUclips and I was hoping to find something more uplifting and positive because it just makes more sense and I'm so so very grateful for you thank you in Jesus Christ God's name bless you and bless us all. Although soon as my medication wears off even throughout the day I experienced extreme mental physical and emotional Panic fear and just intrusive thoughts no one should ever have to go through it's cruel. And to be honest it does feel like there's no light at the end of the tunnel when feeling these ways without the medication in my system. But I have faith and I know we can get better I can get better and I'm going to get better along with so many others out there truly thank you again. 😊❤️🙏❤️🙏 and all along I've been watching these horrific videos I do and can relate but I'm done. You are more than right and all along I know in my heart I need to do more than just start weaning off I started talking to a therapist I've changed my diet and also no matter how awful and mentally physically and emotionally just paralyzed I feel and just bound and chained down with fear I still get up every day and Keep On Keepin On and I know it's getting better and better everyday even if I'm not noticing. Thanks we all have it in us. I also listen to meditation stories from the Bible on my phone bedtime stories before bed and fall asleep to them witches I find helpful big time. Please continue doing what you're doing it's absolutely phenomenal and you are definitely truly the only one out there that I have found doing this and I it's just wonderful thank you from the bottom of my heart in Jesus Christ God's name bless us all once again amen 🙏♥️🙏♥️😊

Just a quick question why would you hv to taper off Zoloft?

    • @markevan1

Zoloft is not a benzodiazepine and no long term withdrawal is required.

@@markevan1 - It's an antidepressant and antidepressants can require a long withdrawal, unfortunately.

@@nokomismn9685 No they don't. You can stop it cold. Not a problem. You might be depressed again, but there's no withdrawal.

So true re surrounding oneself with positive people..I once had a friend called Donna and literally 70% of her conversation was putting other people down as well as myself with the occasional breadcrumbling lol 😂

I understand. But I've been thru horrors way before I found anything on the net. I've lost my dignity although. Been off month and month at times with no improvement. Gran mal's, ICU. We can only endure so much for so long with no longer any purpose left.

    • @TheLovelyGrind
      @TheLovelyGrind  5 лет назад +2

Just keep setting goals and noting any improvements. You're right. We need purpose, or pain is pointless. But with purpose, pain can be endured. Keep setting goals and finding reasons you want to get healthier. Those things will give purpose to your current challenges, and keep you moving forward until you feel better!
