Cheat the AI! How to win the race in Mafia on classic by breaking the AI

- After trying many times to win fairly on Classic Difficulty, I decided to try something different. I picked the tight chicane turn and tried to cause a mass pile up, which end up breaking the AI and I could easily complete the rest of the race with no competition. It took all three laps but eventually all the other racers got stuck or blown up. Sweet victory!

This method indeed works, but its not as easy as it looks. Took me a few tries to get cars in one pile crashed. And then raced 3 laps and on final lap I was 1st. Many times I got the pile but the cars just didnt stay, still easier than to win legit. This is hands down the worst mission in videogame history.
Every time I try this, I’ll get them stuck, and I’ll wait like 2-3 minutes to see if they move and when they don’t I’ll start doing my laps, but once I start driving to do my laps they get unstuck. Any advice or tips?
Update, I finally got it. And it took almost 2 weeks to do this! But I’m glad the hard part is over and I finally got this game platinum 🙌
Yeah you’re right. This method does still work (I did it last night), it is easily one of the most poorly designed missions I’ve ever seen in a game and it will take several attempts.

I was enjoying being a mafioso until this race ruined my experience, was about to quit the game forever until I found your video. Thanks for thinking out of the box, this really helps those of us who are not good at racing games.
It’s quite easy to beat once you learn how to use the ram button, it helps you to make more rapid turns and fasten your car. You just have to ram through everybody on the 1st two turns and take the lead so the latter part is a walk in a park since your opponents, I think, don’t actually rubber band like in nfs games.
This works as of December 2023 - took about 30 tries though - luck is a factor. Thanks for the author for the tip - now for the plat!

You can also change the difficulty of the game before a mission starts. I played this game on like normal or hard but when I couldn't finish this mission in about 2 days of trying, I changed the difficulty to easy 😂 I know it's very lame but oh my God my rage during those 2 days...
After completing half lap or more there is a short cut to victory line it is the easiest way to win . Search in RUclips

Don't get discouraged if a few keep passing you. The key is to create a jam with the cars coming in hot to damage the ones in the front. Preferably flipped over or smoking that's a sign they aren't moving
If you have half the cars jammed up, keep staying until they all are. Only leave after testing the waters to see if any move

Yeah I did it last night and you need to do it exactly as this comment says, build the pile up, don’t worry if some cars go by, test test and test again to make sure nothing will move once you drive off then get going.
I simply can’t imagine anybody ever beating this legit - I tried nearly 200 times and failed. Anybody that says this is easy either has never played it on classic difficulty or is lying frankly.

@@ineedmoreflavour1955 i have to watch tutorial of how to win the race. A few tips: slow down on turns, use shortcuts by driving on a grass, press the ram button when turning, it took me 3-4 attempts.
April 2024, still works.
Some quick tips that took me a few tries to understand:
1. watch for cars that roll over, but more importantly, cars that ‘break down’ apparently due to the crash. This breaking down is indicated by black-ish smoke (not the lighter grey though). Also, they wont be moving, another indication they’re broken. You want both flipped cars and broken down cars in the front and sideways. Help them a little if you need to. Let the rest of them go and pile up behind the flipped and broken down cars.
2. if a few cars do make it out after you, do not worry. You can let two of them crash in automated sequences in the 3rd corner in the back (first lap you drive ‘together’) and the last banked corner (second lap you drive ‘together’. Do make sure they are in front and in sight of you though!
Lastly, I have the disk version ps4 and did not install any patches before trying this.

This took a few attempts (maybe 20) as getting the cars stuck can be a little random but I can confirm it works! It bloody works! 🎉
I never had problems with the race. Even in the original game. All you need to do is be gentle with braking and throttling. It's better to coast towards the corner rather than hard braking. The harder you want to win on the first lap the more mistakes you'll do. Consistency is key. It'll go a long way.

@@pseudopapiezmontiniakapawe2353he said "even in the original game". In original Mafia the mission was that bad that they made a patch to make it easier. And still I played the original as a kid and managed to beat it. Stay out of collisions and be gentle with the brakes. Don't risk anything.
I beat this race on the original Mafia on PC and tbh, it was one of my fave missions (but I'm a car racing fan).
This is pretty hilarious though - love Tommy's cheeky smile and salute to the crowd after 'winning' the race 😂
Me, too. I love racing games and I love the original Mafia (I haven't played the remake). I always felt the race track was very well designed and perfectly fit the era of the game. I beat the race on my first try and it wasn't until much later I realized many people had problems with it.
Me 2 man. It was 2009 when i told my friend bout it he didnt belvie so i went to his house just to beat this mission on his pc for him. After that he said "well i could exepct that from maniac who plays racing games at lest 3h a day"haha. Great times.
Right? One of my fav mission turns out to be the pain in the ass for everyone else. So weird.
Same story goes with 'Driver' and the underground parking at the beginning of the game. Never understood why so many people didn't get through it
I beat it after enermous amount of tries because it played at 5 fps or so. Oh my potato laptop back in 2003 😂😂.
People really had patient for low fps back then.
This mission does not deserve the hate it got. It added to the realism of Mafia games, I had problem with this on OG Mafia also. But i was also used to NFS driving. When remake came, I had practiced on more pro racing games so cleared it I guess on my 3rd try.
Just did it on 10 April 2023. Took 3 or 4 attempts, but it worked & I finally won. Thanks man!

@@Macie-Jay77 Line your car up in the middle of the sharp turn, next to the dirt mound that makes you fly if you hit it at full speed. It'll take a couple attempts, but you need to make one or two of the cars wreck so bad they flip over. That'll cause the buildup to form and after 4 or 5 minutes, you can begin to drive the 3 laps. Just go super, super slow as you pass the pileup as to not "free" any of the trapped cars. You can tell that the top 3 drivers are stuck in the pileup if the yellow, black, and white icons are on the map as you pass the traffic jam. It took me maybe 4 or 5 attempts, but it was worth it because I spent 4 hours trying to win legit and failed every time.
@@JamieDouthit it's driving me crazy...max 1 car tops down and they never stay stuck for long...I drive away while no one can get out and as soon as I arrive at the pile...the most of them are gone
@@samuelraica3542 Same, trying for an hour already. Once, I had someone flip over and cause a pile up but by the time I did a lap, all the cars, except for the flipped one, were gone.
Edit: This happened 3 times now.

For anybody still attempting to win the race on classic difficulty, I can only recommend that THIS IS the best way to do it.
I (no exaggeration) tried and failed to win the race on classic difficulty legit probably 200 times, I rage quit and uninstalled the game, but tried again with this method last night and it DOES work. Took me about 25 attempts but it worked!
I have a few tips that this video doesn’t show however, these are invaluable -
1 - I wouldn’t do as the guy in this video does and position your car to the side, as the cars will just drive around you. It’s far better to ram the first car you see head on in the same spot as this video shows.
2 - Don’t worry if some cars go past you and don’t make it into the first pile up, as this video shows they will smash into the back of it later.
3 - You must make sure that you have at least 4 or 5 cars in your initial pile up. If you only get one or two and the rest drive past you just need to restart.
4 - Cars on their sides and flipped over are GOD tier for this method and are your best friends. The other cars will NEVER drive through them, so think of flipped over vehicles as brick walls.
5 - Block off the rest of the road that isn’t covered by the flipped over cars. So say if you have one or two cars flipped over / on their sides on the left hand side of the road, you need to block the right hand side with your car. You need to basically create a wall of cars that none of them can go through. You don’t need to push your car into flipped over cars as they aren’t going anywhere, just block off what is left of the road.
6 - DO NOT be afraid to let some cars go through to help make the pile up more nasty. You should keep an eye on which cars have done several laps so you don’t accidentally let any of them win, but once you have your pile up and are blocking one side of the road, don’t be afraid to let some cars through who are constantly moving to get around the crash. Let them pass and add themselves to the pile up at the back once they’ve done a lap.
7 - Once everything stops moving and the pile up seems to be achieved for the love of God TEST it. Do not just drive off and assume it’ll work out. Drive onto the nearby grass and create a space for any car that could move to go through, then wait for a few minutes. If nothing moves, you’re good to go. If a few cars move past you and out of the pile up just get back into position, wait for them to do their lap and wait for them to crash into the back of the pile up.
8 - Once you’re sure it’s all safe and nobody is going anywhere, GET GOING. Do not be slow, don’t risk that, still drive like it’s a race.
9 - Don’t be alarmed if when you do your lap and reach the pile up a few cars have gone. They will either smash into the back of the pile up once they come back around or will crash in one of the three scripted car crashes in the race.
10 - If when you do your first lap, you get to the pile up and most of the cars have gone, it meant you’ve failed and you need to restart.
11 - Keep track of laps is your friend here, it’s fine to let a few cars go around the track once or twice but as soon as you’re suspicious that a car might win if it makes it through you need to consider restarting.
12 - Good luck and remember that some awful individual at Hangar 13 approved this garbage. Curse them and their utter incompetence and ability to make a decent game forever.

There are two things that you should pay attention to: first, you should ruin more than 3 cars if you don't want the wall to disappear; second, you should destroy them by going back and ramming them from back until you destroy more than 3 cars and stop when you have black smoke coming from their engine and spark and stop when your car has black smoke coming from the engine, and then you will win. If you ruin only three cars, you will lose the wall. You should avoid destroying (collusion) your car as you are driving.
I just finished it after like 30 tries, totally spent 4 hours today doing it, and I am far from superb racer. Just gotta use F in turns, slow down before the really hard ones and be ready for pre-scripted accidents - that's how I finished first, coz in last round the one car before you just goes kamikaze in last turn.

I almost forgot, how difficult it was back in those times of original Mafia, I think maybe 10, 15 attempts, but after many races in grant turismo on PS1, I tried that race again and did it on second attempt :). Now when I tried this race in Mafia definitive edition, it was same easy like many years before 😁 (after gt😜)
I agree, Most people who complained were mostly NFS(arcade) racers. This game was realistic and so was 1930s super car driving.
The trick is getting one of the cars to flip over then use it to help you make a roadblock on the next lap. Some of the ai completely bug out and stop driving too it’s kinda just keep trying till you get it
Yeah this comment is bang on. As somebody that won the race on classic difficulty last night using this method I can 100% confirm this is what you should be aiming for.
Try and get a couple of cars to flip over or land on their sides, then block off the rest of the road with your car, the AI won’t ever be able to move.
P.S. don’t worry if you end up letting several cars through to achieve this. As long as you build your pile up properly it doesn’t matter.

Works as of October 2023. It doesn’t happen as fast as the video shows. Once I had the cars piled up I waited until the ones in front stopped moving. I even let the loose cars circle back to do additional damage to the ones I had stocked up. Eventually they get so tangled they can’t move and their engines start dying

Thank God it finally worked! Tried this shit mission for the past couple hours the normal way on classic but this crap is way too random. Thanks for your guide man, i was losing my mind. Did this with your video on my first try even though it still took quite a bit because i waited 16 minutes for all the cars to pile up and break down but in the end it was definitely worth it. Goddamn mission almost ruined the whole game for me.

In my try I was also very lucky because the best driver actually escaped, did his laps but for some reason didn't pass the finish line. Guess he glitched somewhere on the race track because I saw him on the map a few meters in front of the finish line. This really is some random ass mission.

I agree, with this kind of driving with crashes even without competitors it's only way to win the race.
Just try to be careful and patient - slow down before corners, accelerate after them and all be ok.
I won it by a big margin racing normal I mean you lose a competitor ahead of you each lap so on the first straight cut tight on that inside line pass like 7 cars and then wait for that first crash cut in on that corner as well really just easy af tbh the missions on feet are a pain for me playing on the hardest difficulty

I gave up on this game like a month ago right after buying it, and thankfully to reading the comments the key is to get one flip and use it to block the path of the racers to pile them up.
I found my steering wheel and peddles worked back in the day. A straightforward win with those.
Amazing video. 3 tries in and I won the fucking race. Just gotta push a few on their back, as soon as you have a few piled up. Just go and race normally after, AI will fuck up the rest of the few cars that pass

After like a hundred tries I got it 🤣, the biggest key I learned was when you do get a pile up even if it’s just two cars try not to move much. Only move if one of the cars looks like it’s actually going to get away and all you have to do is move forward a little bit of back a little bit then it’ll stop. The other cars will come and crash but still try to stay still. So the biggest key was not moving much, then when they stop moving towards you you’re good and if they keep moving toward you but stop before they touch you take off.
I remember playing the original PC release back in 2002-2003 with Wasd controls. To this day it's the longest I've ever been stuck in a video game.
