Thank you for being so honest, it can't be easy when EA help you with your content. For the first time since I started playing F1 games in 2013, I'm skipping this one at launch and waiting for the price to come down. Struggling to find a reason to pay £60 for a product which seems barely any better than F1 23. I'll look forward to your full review when it comes out.

It´s just like the changes from 2020s to 2021s handling: entirely unnecessary to make changes in the first place and then they just ended up making it worse for no reason at all.

A few notes that I can say from my own Beta experience (without getting into too many details):
    - Ideal Brake Bias is back to 50-52% (yep, we're going THAT road again)
    - Engine Braking seems to work best at low levels (like 20%) otherwise it just starts giving unnecessary oversteer
    - Hotlap ERS is by design, uses more ERS because it gives the Energy system at max capped level, however it also recharges a lot... So you can use it for multiple laps straight
    - Overall grip seems somewhat unnatural (maybe too much at this point)
    - Tyre temperatures can be weird, especially in wet conditions
Overall, I think I'll just try the game after summer to see whether they fixed/improved on things or not...

I've been playing these games since 2010 on a pad, and whilst I'm clearly not Esports level, I've won races against wheel users.
This news therefore is bittersweet - It sounds like the handling is "easier" for pad users than it used to be, so for things like solo career mode I'll make fewer mistakes etc, but it also sounds like it's ultimately not as quick as using a wheel.
In fairness: If gamepads were ever 'as good' as a wheel then you'd see at least some Esports users using one. But that's not the case.
One thing I note you *did* fail to mention is that a more arcade-y handling model is likely to make the game more accessible to new players who haven't played a lot of racing games. There have been versions of the F1 game in years gone by that have been almost unplayable on a pad. So at least there's that.
In any case: Can't say the news disappoints me.

I feel like an f1 game being a simcade isnt actually a bad thing. Controller and wheel users both having an enjoyable experience. Im hoping though that some of this gets fixed because its f1's official game so it should be fairly realistic especially when it comes to having setups that wont work everywhere. There should be a tradeoff between cornering grip and straight line speed. You should understeer when steering to fast and scrubing the tires and only be able to fix it by letting go of the throttle, on wheel and pad. The only upside for me, is if I'm in a league with mostly pad players, I'll have seemingly a massive advantage but I'd rather have to work for a win rather be gifted it.

Even addressed a few issues I brought up that pad player have. It’s a shame I think after good 23 handling. It would off been better to take small steps with handling changes. Actually I’m not. I use a pad and know majority of players play casually. The point is a large chunk use a wheel. When designing handling for a car. A car uses a wheel. Not a stick. Best way to get handling to react realistically. Is testing it using a wheel that has far more rotation travel. And it’s a 1 to 1. Once that’s all finished. You’ translate over to pad. So you can scale wheel rotation to limited stick left/right travel.

All we needed this year were subtle improvements on the model of last year with *actual fixes to gameplay features, UI, and menu interfaces* that improve the overall experience for the end users. Instead we have *checks notes* a few track cosmetic upgrades and a dog shit overhauled handling model? Cool. I completely agree with your analysis of the handling, but I completely disagree with what you said about wheel users effecting sales. I think initially it might, because you RUclipsrs will give it stick, but I think over time the vast majority of people who are casuals who play on controller will love it. This change is going to make the game boom and increase sales in the long run.
Imo the game is just way too difficult on controller to be consistent enough to enjoy. This is the ultimate problem with F1 games. If you race online, all the wheel players shoot off into the distance and win by huge margins, even if they're slower than you, because they have consistency to at least stay on track. All the controller players are left with carnage as everyone tries their best just to stay on track, let alone race.
I play for like 45 mins, try my best to lap consistently fail, then turn off to play Fm8 instead, a game where I can actually lap consistently on controller. It sounds like EA are taking the Turn 10 approach to this, and imo is the best way to go. I know a lot of people don't like Forza, mainly because most people have playstation, but Forza is a perfect balance of realism and accessibility on controller, and the online racing reflects that. It's the same as GT7.
I'm personally excited to see how this game feels on controller even if it is slightly less realitic. If we can actually race on controller, this is a huge win and in the end will be what drives sales. Again, wheel users are the tiny minority in this industry. It's why F1 RUclips is dead imo. It's full of wheel sweats instead of more casual RUclipsrs enjoying the game. Casuals can't enjoy this game. That's the reality. So I think EA know this and they're fixing it basically. I suspect now I'm going to be able to play f1 24 and enjoy it now!

Suspension needs some tweaking along with kerbing, but tire grip and the simulation of the traction circle feels pretty solid

Thanks for shedding light on this big ball of crap. I've spoken to PSGL F2 F3 drivers from PS that have played it, and they said it's the worst game they've ever played. There's definitely more casual average players that don't know any better and will play it like any other game, whereas competitive high-level guys that grind will be very upset. This is the first game since 2020 that I will not pre-order nor will I buy it until it gets fixed. If it doesn't, I will set up an F1 23 competitive league. I'm done getting ripped off by CM and EA. This game is an absolute joke. Cars sound awful, HUD is plain as plain can be. And the cars are undriveable. The ERS shouldn't have been changed. It was accurate and fine the way it was. I don't want to be changing ERS 40 times a lap. For reference about myself, I've won a few PS scenario events and I've raced against some of the fastest players on PS over the last few years and I've been top 30 in TT on some tracks on F1 23. So that's my qualifications, so to speak for my opinions on this dud of a game. VERY disappointed!
