She belts so calmly. Growing up, I never took her for a belter. Little did I know she's always done it with so much ease that it never sounded like normal belts.
Her ease of belting and placement is light that when compared to other singers belting the same note, they sound very heavy and chesty like it takes a lot of work for them. That’s why I’ve always thought Mariah’s belts are not as high until someone else covers her songs. The weight of her belts is what Ariana Grande is today love them both ❤️
I make it no secret that Daydream Mariah voice is probably my favorite Mariah, but her voice during the debut was just...something else. She was EXTRAORDINARY and just sounded...so different. Well debut was her natural voice and then started to over brighten in 1994 onward, she had a little less of a bright voice 1997-2001 but in charmbracelet she was back to the over brightening.
@@carlcarey327doesn’t make sense. The label groomed her as the “rival” of the late Whitney. Keeping that powerful G5 belt would’ve been in line with their plans.
@@attyjosh Actually, even if I am Mariah’s producer on that specific song, I think her high pitched sustained G5 belt here doesn’t fit the mood for All In Your Mind specifically. 0:26 replay it as much as u can for a more sustained G5 from Mariah. I just wonder, why she never did this in her records especially during music box which i think is the time she had perfected her belt? Can we say even at her 20s, there's already an ongoing vocal decline?
She did multiple phrased G5s in AYNAF for Music Box. That was her best effort and more than enough I think lol. I think she could have sustained a G5 pretty easily in a Music Box recording if she really wanted to. Imagine if she doesn't have nodules. She could've easily belted above G5 and sustain it with vibrato. She's a fan of both Aretha and Patti so she could've emulate their belts but she will be like everybody else if that happens--- a straight-up belter. My theory is that her nodules helped her with her creativity. Since she may have felt limited with the belts, she created her own trademark and style which is becoming a melismatic singer.
