Bíodh an Deoch Seo 'n Láimh Mo Rúin / This Drink Would Be in the Hand of My Love
Óladh neo na óladh cách i
Bíodh i lán aig ceann a' bhúird
Séist/Cúrfá (tar éis gach bhéarsa):
Bíodh an deoch seo 'n láimh mo rúin
Deoch sláinte le fear an túir
Bíodh an deoch seo 'n láimh mo rúin
Chunnacas bát' air an fhairge
'S an láimh dhearg air an stiúir
Chunnaic mi dol seach' an caol i
'S badan fraoich 's an t-slait shiúil
Fhir a chunnaic air an t-sàil i
Beannaich an long bhàn 's a criùdh'
Beannaich a cruinn ard 's a h-acfhuinn
A cuid acraichean 's a siùil
Ged a tha mi 'n seo an Colla
B' e mo thoil a dhol a Rùm
Agus as a sin a dh' Uibhist
Nan d' fhuair mi mo ghuidhe leam
Translation:
Whether he or the others were drinking
There would still be plenty on the table
Chorus (after every verse):
The drink would be in my love's hand
Here's a health to the chief
The drink would be in my love's hand
A boat was seen on the waves
And the red hand at the helm
I saw it passing through the straits
With a clump of heather on the sail-yard
You who saw her out at sea
Bless the fair ship and her crew
Bless her high masts and her equipment
Her moorings and her sails
Though I am here in Coll
I long to go to Rhum
And from there to Uist
Were I to get my wish
Julie Fowlis is too wonderful and beautiful for words.
All the way from Nigeria 🇳🇬,I just can't get enough of Julie F. I have to relocate soonest to Scotland I guess 🥰😍

Is deas go bhfuil tú ag baint sult as an gceol !!
Go h-íontach! Tuigim 80% de, le gaeilge na hÈireann. Alban Abú!
She is a world heritage treasure.
She is a lovely perfomer and obviously a beautiful woman.
But it's _the music_ that's a world treasure. And with a little care and luck it'll remain so, long after all three of us are dust.
I find that sad , think about it, there should be hundreds of Julies
Truly
@@Jesse__H You're right about the music, but you might be selling Julie Fowlis short. She's a shining light of a person, maybe a guiding light is a good way to put it.
A stunning voice.
This song is hidden away on RUclips, not nearly enough people have heard it.
This music is for those who can really understand it. Let common people listen to Disposito and another sex-directed songs!
We are the lucky ones
I don't know the Gaelic language but I really love listening to it.
@@seliefong8858 this music for anyone that enjoys it.
I agree with you! I am one of the grateful people who listen to the studio version of this *all* the time.

A gem of a song.
A new version of this song pops up and I think... "No way that it can pierce my heart like that again... it can't be that beautiful yet another time."
And then it is

@@TradTG4 Míle míle buíochas. It goes a bit beyond enjoyment. I've listened to a boatload of music in my life. Aside from endless punk rock and world music in smoky bars over the years, I got to listen to Micho Russell play whistle in a tiny pub south of Galway, and Altan live in 1990 in a college bar in Wales.
And yet I still think that 'Biodh an deoch' is hands down my favorite song of all time. Bar none.
The efforts in creating the universe were worth it ... with THIS voice as a result! :-)
I think I love Julie Fowlis
You and me both, mate!
I've listened to this song probably 20+ times this week. I just keep coming back to it ❤️

Something about non-electric acoustic song and music that makes it all so excellent. Awesome!

An awful lot has happened to our countries in the period since this was recorded, none of it good. Great performance.
Music holds hope. 🌹
All about making sure her man has a drink ready for him when he comes home from a long voyage

This woman cheats the time... still looking like in the early twens
This was filmed in 2003...
@@gregsadler968 Julie and Éamon are married and they both appear to be wearing wedding rings in this video which was filmed in 2003 apparently but they didn't get married until 2007?
@@winterishere9828 @Greg Sadler Julie cut her hair just before her US tour in the fall of 2008. We think this video was made in late 2008 or early 2009.
A pity she signed with Disney 😿
Honestly, everything from this lady is a marvel. Anyone, share my view Julie for the next president of Ireland? She's fluent in Irish and would be a great successor to Michael D. All prospective candidates from Ireland so far are shite.
Didn't know she was fluent in Irish, I thought it was just Scots Gaelic
She's Scottish though... anyway Julie for President is a great idea !
@@faelan1950 Her French is also excellent; there's a couple of videos here on YT.
Sorry yous can't have her ! She's going to be first President of a Free Scots Republic 🏴🙄💚🇮🇪
@@denisbls7597 They are they same culture. Billy Connolly told you that and them having the very same language/culture tells you that.
Lovely...
