2 years later, this review and walk-through is still very helpful, and also enjoyable to watch (and listen to) - thanks! Since it was released, there has been a firmware update to add parametric channel EQ and lots more. But what I wonder is whether they changed the compression so the user can set any parameters besides just the percentage?
I was really hoping this thing would have parametric EQ. Edit: It does on the output side for Mains and Busses. You can also delay your mains and/or monitor lines for time aligning your speakers, which is a huge advantage over the equivalent analog mixer.
Glad you figured out the parametric EQ for mains and busses! It's definitely got a lot to offer, but I do think it's a bit limited in processing power. It's a give and take, but I think they gave quite a bit for the price point.
Super-helpful and detailed review. As an owner of an older Behringer USB interface and a separate FX box, the Flow 8 looks really capable as a way of combining everything together. The mix coming in as well as a separate stereo input is a nice touch.
Thanks for the video, I have 2 questions left: 1) How can I mute individual channels without the app? 2) And how can I mute it with the app while also seeing the levels of the muted people so I can see who tries to speak and unmute this person?
It has snapshot, but they are saved in the following blocks: Channels, FX, Main, Monitor, Routing. If you save a snapshot of Channels, it will save the eq/comp…etc of ALL channels. You can download the app for free and play with it in demo mode to get an idea.
I’ve used both extensively and they both sound good. I feel like most interfaces these days sound pretty great and the real limiting factor is often other things (performance, mic selection, mixing techniques...etc.) if you’re deciding between a 2i2 and the Flow 8, I honestly think you’re getting more for your money with the Flow 8. If you think you’ll ever use it live, Flow 8. If you really think you can hear the very subtle and probably unimportant differences in the preamps OR you don’t need any of the extra stuff the Flow 8 offers and would rather save the $80, then go Scarlett.
Thank you for this detailed demo of the Behringer Flow 8. Perhaps you can clarify how the channels are mapped into the DAW. The manual says that all channels are "pre-fader" channels. Does it mean that channel 1-8 have no FX/EQ and Level-Settings in the recording? What's about the mic gain and limiter? Does the main mix (channel 9, 10) include FX, EQ Level Settings in the recording?
Pre fader generally means it records everything except for fader level, I seem to remember thinking the tap point for the channel was actually just after the preamp (so no EQ/Comp...etc) but maybe I’m remembering that wrong. The mains definitely include the fx.

I don’t believe this is a default feature, but you could totally accomplish it a few different ways. What I would do is create an aggregate device in protools combining the built-in output with the Flow 8, then I’d route your tracks out of the built-in output and I’d use an 1/8” to stereo 1/4” cable to take it back into the Flow 8.
@@ChurchTechTalks Interesting. I use a Bose Tonematch at present, which works perfectly, but on my Zoom L-12 Livetrak and my Steinberg UR242 it doesn’t work at all
Can I assign separate effects for separate channels via the app and/or stack multiple effects on any channel, or is it limited just 2 separate simultaneous effects assigned globally to all channels?
It‘s just 2 effects total and you can send as much of each effect to each channel as you want. However, this is pretty limited. If you are a singer/songwriter, for example, you can‘t apply Ambience (vocal) and Ambience (instrument) separately, so you effectively can‘t use that effect (effect #1!) because you‘d have vocal ambience on your guitar or guitar ambience on your vocal. I guess for $250 it‘s too much to ask for and as an interface, this is irrelevant because you get 10 channels to play with. But I‘m struggling to see how this is really useful for anyone playing more than one instrument: you basically get one effect per instrument if you are using a specialised effect, so e.g. Ambience for the vocal, Guitar Reverb for your guitar. But that is that. You can‘t have Flanger and Reverb on your guitar because then your vocal would get nothing. Behringer could at least have had independent effects for the first couple of inputs or something. Anyways, rant over. And like I said, it is a mixer and interface for $250, so the effects are pretty secondary here.
@@ChurchTechTalks How about if I’m in for instance a Starbucks and I want to record a video? There’s always music playing, people talking, machines making noise… Thx for your quick response!
Great video! I Really Appreciate it, I was wondering if the flow 8 works with 80 ohm impedance headphones, 250ohm headphones or will it only work with 32ohm?
I’m sure it will work with most headphones on the market, but you can follow up with Behringer or even chat with the rep you’re buying it from and they should be able to check your exact headphones.
Hey Scot. Thank you for your review on the Flow 8. Been eyeing this little board for a while now to go with my small band setup. Thank you for explaining the offset function on the faders. I was wondering how behringer would handle setting up levels on the app and having non motorised faders on the console. I do have one question regarding the jack inputs. The manual mention inputs 6 and 8 to be high-z for guitars/bass and inputs 5 and 7 as line level inputs. Will this result in different levels if i patch a keyboard into inputs 5 and 6? Also, have you faced any issues using the flow 8 live (Bluetooth failure, ground loop hum on inputs 5 - 8)?
Great Review! I have a question though. Do you have to plug the Flow 8 into a wall outlet, or can the mixer run off of your computer's power via USB. I am looking into buying a new mixer and this one looks really promising. (Edit: Also I'm really late to this video)
Yes, that's doable. You can power the Flow 8 with a USB micro B to USB A cable off of your computer's USB port. You will need a separate USB B to A cable for data.
Presonus uses a similar system for their level faders on the early StudioLive models. I never found it to be a problem, but some folks may. Thanks for the comprehensive overview.
At the $229 price point, definitely not a problem. I think most people took issue with the studio live not having it when the Behringer X32 did have flying faders and gain recall at almost half the price.
Thank you very much for this video. You may have said it in the video, but my English is not good enough. That's why I wanted to ask in writing. I live stream on Twitch. What I'm wondering is this. When I use all these effects and digital audio enhancements, will I experience a latency when monitoring the audio? Latency in hearing myself prevents me from speaking fluently. Is it a suitable device for radio broadcasts on Twitch? I use Behringer x1222 analog mixer in my live broadcasts. You know, when I speak, I turn down the volume of the music with a fader. When I'm done speaking, I turn the music back up. Spotify music sound from my computer and my voice from my microphone go to the broadcast as a single stereo mix. In other words, when I add any digital effects to my microphone, my music sound is affected because they all go on the air as a mix. Whereas, I want to make sound improvements to my microphone input and music input separately. Do you think it would be a significant upgrade? Will this solve my problem? For this kind of solution, I normally have to use an expensive and large digital mixer like the Presonus StudioLive 16. And I'm looking for a more compact and cheaper solution. You can also suggest a different mixer. Thank you so much.
hey guy... Great Video you made... I learn a lots staff about Flow8. Just one question, do you use the preamp to your SM7B mic and make it sound great when it plug in the FLOW8. I really interest about this interface.... thx!
The SM7B is plugged into a cloud lifter, then directly into the Flow 8. Using a little comp and EQ on the Flow 8 itself. Thanks for watching and I’m glad you’re liking the videos!
You can totally use it without app, but won’t have full access to all the parameters. I’d recommend pairing it with the app for at least the initial setup.
What are the minimum specifications for a cell phone in terms of power and RAM. I don't want to use my personal phone for that, and prefer to buy a less expensive phone just for the mixer. Can you specify a Samsung Android model and an iPhone that would do the job without glitches? Thanks in advance and thanks for the nice job explaining.
I’m an iPhone guy, so I’m always going to recommend iPhones - but in this case I also have experience developing for android and I’ll tell you that there are thousands and thousands of cheap android phones - these things never get tested by developers and there are tons of bugs in the lower end android stuff because of that. So I’d recommend a used iPhone SE as the cheapest way to get something powerful enough to run without glitches. Should be able to get one on eBay between $50-$100
@@ChurchTechTalks Unfortunately in the country where I live, SE iPhones are very expensive. Could you tell me what is the oldest iPhone model that will work well with FLOW 8. Thanks again.
@@ChurchTechTalks Thank you so much for all your good info. I have a last question, but I'm not sure if you're able to help me, after all, your video is about the Flow-8. I have a small music setup and I'm considering two options for a small digital mixer: The Flow-8, which requires a smart phone and the QSC Touchmix 8, which is a bit more expensive, but does not require anything else. Are you able to give me a comparison between those two? Thanks in advance and take care.
@@toddgoes7935 Those are some very different price points (the Touchmix 8 is over $1,100) and theres a lot in between too! I think you might be limiting yourself if you're only considering these two platforms. For that price you could get an XR18 AND a brand new iPad. Even an XR12 at $399 plus a brand new iPad at $329, you could have a rocking wirelessly controlled PA for less than the QSC Touchmix costs. What exactly are you looking to do with a small digital mixer? Is this for small gigs? Personal music listening? Mixing? Maybe share some of your use cases and let those define your parameters a bit more.
Are the effects processed on the input or output channels? so if I record my voice into my DAW with the effects on, will my DAW record exactly this with effects on or is it just for hearing on the output channel? The Flow 8 ist pretty interesting, might get my hands on one of them oh and can you change the tap button lighting? this flashing red light could be really annoying to me after some time I guess
On a DAW, I believe the effects processed on their own channel. Think of it like a bus with a perfect inserted on it. The cool thing is your multi-tracking so you get all of the channels individually and you get the main mix with all the processing. I don’t believe you can change the tap tempo flashing.
You can adjust the fader in the app, but these are not flying faders, so you will have to move the fader into position on the mixer. They have a nice little LED indicator to let you know when it's in position and the physical fader won't control volume until you have it in the same position as it is in the app. Sounds more complicated than it is, it's super easy and pretty standard stuff, Presonus does a very similar thing with their studio live consoles.
Unfortunately no FX in monitors at the moment. Not sure if that’s something they could add as a software update in the future, will probably depend how much dsp is under the hood.
Good question, I mention the routing at 04:05 but basically it’s a Shure SM7B into a cloudlifter into the Flow 8’s channel 1 XLR jack. Acoustic is plugged straight into the Flow 8’s channel 3 combo jack.
Nice review! I‘m playing with my new Flow 8 here and the only thing that‘s a little disappointing is the 2 effects channels, which mean that once you start plugging in more instruments you get more and more limited. Better than nothing and good for adding a reverb to everyone and then one special effect for one instrument, like guitar. But that‘s it! As you say, small setups only.
Yours is an old comment by now, but just for anyone interested: I‘m planning to use this mixer on my acoustic/electric solo pedalboard, with vocal effects (including harmonies) coming from the Boss VE-500 and guitar effects coming from a whole chain of great pedals. That said, I could well envision using the mixer as a standalone rig for quick-and-dirty shows, too, making it easy to dial in enough channels (vocals, guitar(s), a stompbox pedal and more).
@@scottbecker3485 Hey Scott, funny you say that since that‘s exactly what I did for a recent gig. Three different instruments and a ton of snapshots to handle some different sounds for the various songs I was guest playing on, all worked like a charm with zero problems live. And it sounded great!
Hi again !! Maybe this will bother you which I really sorry about this... But I got a huge problem here which drive me nuts..... I got my Flow-8 interface yestday. I pluged all my cable include the micphone (MV7) and XLR main outputs and my earphone.. ofcouse I use the USB cable connected to my macbook.. Then I open the LOGIC , setup the interface into flow8, it's the right setup for sure. I can't record the vocal from my mic, there is no vocal signal into the logic software..... but I can heared my vocal from the earphone.. so hopefully i think you can guide me to play this interface a little bit ? maybe another comminucate way or something else ? very very thx about this .
Not bothered at all friend! Would love to help you, but I don’t know much about Logic, I’ve always been a Pro Tools guy. You could try making sure you’re on the latest firmware - also, since it sounds like your mac is seeing the flow 8, maybe a routing issue in Logic? I would recommend reaching out to Music Group to get customer support on it - maybe even find a Logic forum where you could talk to some more seasoned Logic users and make sure everything is set properly. Wishing you the best of luck!
@@ChurchTechTalks Thx for the reply and your recommendation. I'm trying my best to making flow8 work well... so far .. not that well... keep trying.... anyway thx again!!
Nice video!!! I have a question, can you use the effects simultaneously on all channels from channels 1-8 (or even just channels 1 to 4 specially if there's a vocal group) because on tascam mixcast 4 you can only use the effects one channel at a time so when you decide to sing duet either no effects or only one singer will get to have the effects. Can you use fx1 and fx2 at the same time? I didn't seem to notice if the fx1 (reverb) was mixed/blend when you've set the fx2 (delay) also.
I believe it works like an aux channel, you can send a blend of any channels to it and it will give you stereo fully wet reverb on a fader to blend in.
@@ChurchTechTalks how to do the simultaneous recording where one is wet via floe 8 mixer and effects and the other one as dry to do a later post processing?
@@raisinyao you can definitely do that. When you’re multi tracking with this as an interface, the channel gets recorded dry and you also get a stereo channel with wet only effects.
@@ChurchTechTalks how about when I'm going to do a live (concert/singing) streaming? would it be a dry or wet also I can't do dry and wet when I live stream using this right?
Hey great video thanks! How many inputs can you record at one time to multiple tracks in your DAW? Looks like you used 2 (mic and guitar) what if I had 4 MiCS or Four instruments? Can I record to the daw multitrack every single track?
Thanks Chris! The Flow 8 is a 10x2 interface, so you can record all 8 input channels (2 xlr, 2 combo, 4 instrument) plus the main mix which comes into your DAW as 9 & 10 all simultaneously.
Cool review! One question can this Behringer like a mixer with a aux 1 output sent to a inear system music and voice in different levels? If so then i can give my wife ( singer) this beautiful mixer as a precent a first digital one :-)
You have two mono aux channels that you definitely could send to an in ear system as well as the stereo main mix. All of which you can send different levels to. Hope that helps!
Your best bet is ordering from Sweetwater - it should be out but for some reason says “pre-order” must be a supply chain thing www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Flow8--behringer-flow-8-8-input-digital-mixer-with-bluetooth
@@Kikosax95 I believe you’ll need an iOS or Android device to control all the features of the unit using their companion app, but you can connect it as an interface to iOS, android, mac, and pc. Hope that clears it up for you!

Hacked off that these are all over Europe and Asia, but Not-so-Sweetwater says I’m not getting mine (I paid for it back in early February) until April!!!
Sorry to hear that Robert! Unfortunately this isn't just a Music Group problem, companies all across the globe from multiple industries are having HUGE supply chain issues right now. Hopefully it gets resolved sooner, but in the meantime, I personally wouldn't pre-order anything.
Thanks, this is a great review!!! Actually I own a Yamaha AG03 and consider switching to the Behringer, after having listened to the effects in your video. :-)
Thank you for this very nice review. I was asking please answer Can we use effects like echo and reverb? When using WhatsApp or Snape Skype applications There is a note that you did not put some connectors that we need when we use Android phone or iPhone
I think the FX section definitely has a lot of ways it could expand. However, speaking as a guitarist, we're a very picky bunch haha! We probably wouldn't be happy with any of the modeling anyways :) Best to stick to the HX Stomp or mic your own pedalboard/amp. I think if they split their attention on this too much, the end result would just be a product that could do everything... very poorly - as opposed to a product thats more focused and does what it does well.
@@ChurchTechTalks Behringer seems obsessed with reverbs & delays, I have a Behringer X Air XR12 it has mostly delay type fx & a couple of guitar amps, I was going to swap it for the Soundcraft Ui12 which has a good set of fx until I saw this (Ui12 has no USB interface).
Can you access eq on the mixer, w/o the app?
I'm just impressed that Behringer created something of their own! These effects actually sound pretty impressive too. Thanks for the thorough preview.
Well, maybe they didn’t? How sure are we exactly 🤔 😂?

Question: Do you know if it’s possible to reduce background noise whilst recording your voice?
Thx!
Thanks! The best way to reduce background noise is to use quality cables, mics, have good gain structure, and be in a treated room.
How did you record with audio ang video
@@ChurchTechTalks Thank you so much. This makes it so much more portable!!

multitrack recording ?
Please, can flow 8 work directly with an android phone? I mean can it be used for recording directly with an android phone? Thank you
@@ChurchTechTalks Thx for reply!!!
Can I use it without app running?
Say I use the physical fader to adjust level and EQ
You can totally use it without app, but won’t have full access to all the parameters. I’d recommend pairing it with the app for at least the initial setup.
@@ChurchTechTalks I see. Thanks for ur reply.
Cool perf and thanks for your explanations.
can you set the usb to a fader as i use a laptop and a mic for radio
Added in a firmware update, I believe!
@@toddgoes7935 according to Behringer, anything that can run iOS 9.
Mixing? Maybe share some of your use cases and let those define your parameters a bit more.
can i use a different effect for each channel? thanks!
They work like busses, you can use two effects and send as many channels to that effect as you want.
Are the effects processed on the input or output channels? so if I record my voice into my DAW with the effects on, will my DAW record exactly this with effects on or is it just for hearing on the output channel? The Flow 8 ist pretty interesting, might get my hands on one of them
oh and can you change the tap button lighting? this flashing red light could be really annoying to me after some time I guess
On a DAW, I believe the effects processed on their own channel. Think of it like a bus with a perfect inserted on it. The cool thing is your multi-tracking so you get all of the channels individually and you get the main mix with all the processing. I don’t believe you can change the tap tempo flashing.
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas Ryan 😄
Can you plug the laptop to play backing tracks or on your phone
Yes, you can play backing tracks via Bluetooth.
can I adjust the faders on the app? and does that make the fader move on the mixer?
You can adjust the fader in the app, but these are not flying faders, so you will have to move the fader into position on the mixer. They have a nice little LED indicator to let you know when it's in position and the physical fader won't control volume until you have it in the same position as it is in the app. Sounds more complicated than it is, it's super easy and pretty standard stuff, Presonus does a very similar thing with their studio live consoles.
Can you add effects to monitors? And where can you find one of these?! I can't find one anywhere.
Unfortunately no FX in monitors at the moment. Not sure if that’s something they could add as a software update in the future, will probably depend how much dsp is under the hood.
@@ChurchTechTalks also what pickup do you use with your J-45?
Nice. did u connect d sm7b directly to the flow8 ?
Good question, I mention the routing at 04:05 but basically it’s a Shure SM7B into a cloudlifter into the Flow 8’s channel 1 XLR jack. Acoustic is plugged straight into the Flow 8’s channel 3 combo jack.
great review man!
Great mixer but my usb socket broken, need a stronger better power supply - gutted ☹️
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Will this work well with the Bose L1 pro 16? Thanks.
Yup!
awesome. Now I just have to wait for it to be back in stock.
Yes, it definitely does have it’s limitations, but if you know them, you can work around some.
@@ChurchTechTalks EZ Gain is so good though and like you say it does pack a lot in!
@@mikesrandomchannel Super cool to hear! :-) Thanks for reinforcing my intent to use the device in this extra way, too.
Can u put delay and reverb together.
Yes, you have two fx engines and can use reverb and delay together.
@@raisinyao you can record individual channels and use the main mix as the source you send to streaming.
Hey great video thanks! How many inputs can you record at one time to multiple tracks in your DAW? Looks like you used 2 (mic and guitar) what if I had 4 MiCS or Four instruments? Can I record to the daw multitrack every single track?

Some guitar fx & amp modeling would be nice.
