Just for clarification, you can turn on the phantom power by using the EZ-Gain feature on the Flow 8 mixer which will turn on the 48v on channels 1 & 2 if in use. You don't necessarily need the app to do that. The Flow 8 device is still quite useable as standalone without the App, though the app gives greater control. I have the Flow 8 so I'm stating this from my experience using it.
Thanks for the cool @Z Review ;-) FLOW 8 is actually providing real audiophile mic preamps, but you have to set the Gain properly. Noise you might have heard, when just pulling channels up without anything plugged in, is not relevant and will be gone immediately as soon you connect anything. Use the EZ Gain feature makes gainstaging a breeze, btw.
I was hoping you could help with a specific question. I need am audio interface for hooking up my bass to my PC. I also want some fx to plug into my synth in order to add some flavor too it. That is the reason this peaked my interest. Do you believe this is the best 2 in 1 for me? Thanks!
It's really neat, but I just can't get on board with these devices that interface with Android and iOS. I've been using the same mixer for a decade. I doubt I could say that if it were reliant on continued software support. But, then again at this price point it doesn't really need to continue service for a decade to be worth the money.
maybe you can just plug it with an OTG cable to your phone and record everything to it, otherwise, if you want a mixer, chances are you'll already be recording to your DAW on your computer, therefore all the bluetooth BS is pretty much useless.
Your phone, headphones and a usb mic with real time listening, mic allows headphones to connect and phone. Mobile DAWS are advancing quickly. Anyway, download the free Android/IOS app Music Maker Jam to your phone/ connect phone, mic and headphones through mixer. Now you have your own studios..and you can listen all in real time through headphones
Now you have added all the mixers functions to your 'record in' function to the mobile DAW, allowing way more control when adding your vocals or samples into your mixes you make with MMJ

@@RealAnalysisLA There's no way to know for sure. As long as it's still in production they'll probably keep it updated, but once it isn't and an iOS or Android update breaks that app is Behringer going to spend money developing an update for a low margin out of production product? Almost certainly not.
Exactly you can’t even turn on phantom power without the app. Maybe they will update it for a long while but inevitably one day that will probably end. I have seen this happen many times.
@@johnruschulte2593 yep, and if I'm remembering correctly Behringer has a record of not supporting legacy devices and many people ran into driver issues with their audio interfaces not working properly with Windows 10
As opposed to a 900 dollars cell phone that certainly will always be updated and relevant right? I mean most consumers have no problem updating that every 2 years. Certainly the 229 dollar price point of the flow 8 will be worth the price of admission.
@Northern Dirt cuz as soon as you touch the thing on the app, the physical object becomes incorrect. its a design thing rather than a usefulness of the object thing
@Northern Dirt i dont mean the level is incorrect, i mean the position of the slider is incorrect. i believe you 100% that it works and that its normal and all that, my perspective is not that of an audio engineer. i just think its dumb that you can look down and see that the sliders are all the way at the top when in reality the thing that they were controlling is all the way at the bottom cuz thats where you set it in the app afterwards.
@Northern Dirt also after some quick googling, it looks like a motorized slide would be about 4x the cost of a comparable device, but that doesnt mean the cost of the unit would be 4x. found a decent looking bourns unit on mouser for about $11/ea in higher qty, which is pretty high (plus you need to add in any extra circuitry for driving the motor) but doesnt seem excessive, more like just what youd put in a higher end unit
I think the idea of the “Father App” needs to be implemented. I’m wondering if the DAW that’s supposed to be in progress will be that. As for this the “scary moments” you pointed out scare me lol. A bigger unit with its own screen, more controls for dedicated sliders and knobs and a clear way to know what value is going to be changed before I change it would be better for me. I like this overall, just want less mobile-ish and more project studio focused.
Love the review man! Can this thing multitrack into an ipad or iphone? If it does. Well that’s fine fine. And would you recommend? Since you mention the sound quality wasn’t all that great

If I NEED an app to make it work, then, it doesnt help me on live performances. That kind of product is SO stupid. Nothing is better then hitting a button and getting what you need right away.
This mixer is an absolute nightmare just by design. 48v phantom power only controllable in the app? For what purpose? You ask why you even need physical buttons when you can control the interface via phone? For the sole reason that tactile feel and greater adjustment accuracy on a physical faders vs touchscreen interface. Don't get me wrong, this interface has some neat features, like the clipping indicator and volume knob LED. But this unit screams of manufactured obsolence and splitting its functionality over several devices. If I buy an interface I want full functionality on the interface itself. It's fine if they would use software for customizing something like EQ / Filters. Yamaha does this on the AG03/06, then saves that to a profile that basically gets enabled at the push of a button. The one unique thing with this is the BT audio mix to the interface, that's actually interesting and handy. But for any actual studio use or home recording this thing is a nightmare of contradictions and ease of use. It's not too expensive though, but that's probably speaking against it more than it's a positive thing, because you can clearly see they've made it to be controlled via an app instead of actually fiddling with the knobs itself. This is a hard pass for me, which is a shame because I really like the physical layout, clipping dial and volume knob.
The problem is that previous mixers from Behringer uses components that don't last too long, sad but true fact of today no one builds anything that lasts.
Just for the record, Behringer got their start with patent infringement and grew into a litigious juggernaut with shitty products designed to a price and destined to fail.
@Northern Dirt what are you talking about? The behringer 1820 is the best deal in audio interfaces right now and I've heard nothing but praise. They've really upped their game in the past year. This thing though, why get this if you can get the 1820 for only a bit more and use a MCU/MIDI control surface? Guess for those using an iPad this is cool? Loads of producers are using iPads nowadays for sends/returns, so why not keep it ITP, or "In the Pad" haha😄
@Northern Dirt Not all Behringer stuff is like that. Some of their gear has its place. The Wing is hugely popular and build quality is great. I have seen sound engineers prefer it to most of the other digital boards in the price range. Including ones from brands like Digico.
@Northern Dirt I know this isn't the Wing just giving an example of them stepping up their game. Wing seems pretty road worthy so far. The X32 was very popular but most I have seen have started having issues in the 2-3 year mark. Nothing crazy, but issues none the less. They have done a great job though at software upgrades improving it vastly over the years. Longevity might be unknown but have seen the Wing in a couple forms so far and it has been solid. Someone I work with has 5 pre production versions that Behringer sent him that are all slightly different from the production version you can buy know. A few sound engineers have gone with it that I know including someone that only purchased Digico all the time and he loves it and uses it weekly. Even when Behringer has been a joke and their hardware at times questionable they have always offered more features at their price points than anyone else. It is why the company has been successful. Again not my favorite company but I feel like for a lot of people it works. I know churches use X32's like crazy and the Wing is now becoming popular in those spaces as instructional video's and preset setups etc are all widely available for them making them the most friendly to use boards for beginners.

The point of the phone is mostly to be able to mix from any location when in a live sound use case. You might need to get up on stage with the musicians to adjust their monitor mix, or go to the back of the venue to hear what the audience hears.

Do Mackie or Allen&Heath offer a similar competitive product?
