This guy is definitely one of the most detailed, easily understood instructors I have personally come across when explaining the in depth analysis. Definitely one of! Thank you sir
This might be the most straightforward and informative video for trigger/pad settings that I’ve seen (for Yamaha products anyway). I especially appreciated the explanation of the velocity curves. The low volume presets for the EAD10 that Yamaha released a year or so ago were very helpful, but I look forward to applying some of this knowledge to further dial in my settings.
Thank you for that excellent explanation of the dynamic curves. I will be saving this and passing it on to anyone in future who needs help understanding/tuning their electronic kits
Hello Asking a question about the e-cymbals. There's any tip you can give me if I want to buy a thrid party cymbal pad? (I hope one day yamaha will produce china shaped e-cymbals too!)
Hi It depends on what functionality you want. You can plug in ANY piezo (ie not digital) cymbal pad and you'll get at least one zone (usually the bow but hitting the bell or the edge will all trigger the same sound). Depending on the model you *might* get the edge as a separate trigger as well, but only Yamaha will give you 3 zones from one cymbal pad into a Yamaha module. As for a china shaped pad, I'm not sure as its only an aesthetic thing, rather than a functional thing, but maybe - never say never!
Hi...love your channel...I'm about to purchase a Yamaha DTX Prox ...just one question...will the Yamaha rack accommodate 1 10inch pad on top rack and another 12 inch pad on lower rack.so ya 2 extra clamps to hold 2 more pads ? Or will I have to put them on separate stands? Thanks ...
Hello Simon! I’m converting my acoustic drum kit into mesh and using some pads of my DTX8KM. Any tips on settings pedal triggers like Ontriggers and which tension you recommend the mesh heads for triggering? Thanks again
Mesh works in a different way to Mylar heads (bounce v. tightness ) so usually better to have mesh tighter than you normally would. I haven't used OnTriggers so I dont know what their output level is I'm afraid so I cant suggest settings. Probably best to try the TP70 settings to start with as that should give a a nice clean start. Then work from there.
I found trying to set up some DIY pads exhausting. A great shame Yamaha or someone else couldn't make an interface for the computer to help with the initial setup instead of constant menu switching with that tiny screen. I found it unintuitive and took forever. Although your videos are a big help, have you considered showing the menu path above the view of the DTX? Thanks.
I have the original Yamaha DTXtreme RHP drum set and question to you is, will this DTX-Pro trigger both the head and the rim with two different sounds at the same time? I have the DTX700 module and it only triggers the head, not the rim shot. Or is there a setting on the DTX700 that will help with my issue?
Hi Darnell. Yes, the head and rims will work on the RHP pads when plugged into the DTXPRO module. Great pads - I've got some too. The DTX700 inputs are designed for Yamaha 3 zone pads so won't work in the same way (as you have found). To get them to work you would need to split the output of each pad and put them each into 2 inputs. The DTX700 module doesn't have enough inputs to split the snare and all the toms so the DTXPRO would be a better way of doing it - and you'll get MUCH better sounds.
@@edruminfo Thanks Simon, I truly appreciate your time and your wealth of knowledge. Your videos are helping us edrummers around the world. So please continue to produce more informational videos sir.
Hello Simon. I just got a 13 inch mesh pad from ATV and I'm using it as snare pad, howerver I´m finding it difficult to trigger the rim area when I'm playing rimshots. I followed your steps but the rim just keeps needing very strong hits to trigger. Any tip on this? Thank you.
Hi. As long as you are using a stereo cable, have set to DT50s trigger type, then it sounds like you need to adjust both the Rim Gain (to bring the volume of the rim up) and then the H/R Balance (head/rim balance) so they are triggering at the correct proportional balance. By adjusting these two setting to suit your playing, you should be fine. My ATV 13" pad works perfectly with the DTX-PRO so it will be just getting those two parameters correct for you will solve it.
@@edruminfo I tried adjusting those parameters but just can not seem to get it to work properly. Even with the rim gain set all the way up and the h/r balance set all the way to the rim, the rim still is super tough to trigger. I believe it must be the thick rubber ring around the rim. I believe I will be returning the atv pad and just save up a lil more and get a 12" yamaha pad. Thank you anyways.
This is an amazing video and it was really helpful learning the module in this video! I've been really interested in using a dual zonetrigger and a mesh pad with the DTX-Pro and I was wondering how and if it is possible to achieve rim-click/cross-stick sound triggers on a snare? I notice this wasn't demonstrated in the video, so I am unsure if it's possible to achieve a rimclick on top of the regular snare sound and rimshots. Thanks!
Hi. Yes, you can have cross stick too. It works on a dynamic level to suit you - you have to set the level above which the rim hit only is a rim shot and below which it is a cross stick. You can turn this on and off on the main front page using the middle button under the screen. However, when I need lots of cross stick I normally just assign it to another pad, but the choice is yours.
I'm afraid not. Roland still use 2 cables for a 3 zone cymbal. Yamaha use a single cable for 3 zone cymbals. You could use an eDrumIn4 or 10 to convert them but you couldn't plug then in directly.
Thanks for this great tutorial! I want to convert an acustic set to electronic with sizes 8,10,12,14,16,22 and I’m thinking about using this module and using a set of 2box TrigIt triggers, plus maybe a Roland trigger for the snare..do you think this could be a good idea? Thanks!
Yes, but why not use the Yamaha DT50 triggers - it is what they were designed to do and will give better results than 2box or Roland triggers. The 2box triggers are great, but the Roland ones are a bit 'hot' (loud) so will give you slightly less dynamic range. I'd go with the DT50.
Hi Simon, i have tried the 2box trigger and also a Jobeky internal side trigger on the snare but i can't make it work properly. What i mean is for example: my buzz rolls are not being registered completely always and when i change the settings then i get double triggering. I have watched this video a couple of times and i have tried everything that you suggest but still can't get it to work as it should I'm thinking of buying a DT50s or an ATV xd 13^ meash head pad. Which one will work best? Or do you have any other suggestion for my existing equipment?
Extremely helpful video. Thank you @simonedgoose. I have a question sort of related to DIY pads, but not identical to the topic. and that is the use of my Roland SPDSXXX pro with the GTX 10 pro X module. Basically the question is can I? The Roland is very useful for looping and sound effects and things of that nature, but the Yamaha has incredible acoustic kits. For musicals I’d like to use both. Is this possible using the MIDI in on the DTX-pro?
Hi. Yes it is, but what are you trying to achieve? You can use both simply by plugging the outputs of both devices into a mixer and doing it like that. Then you'll have the combined outputs going to the Front Of House. You can do more using MIDI, but there's no point unless you have a particular task you want to achieve which cant be achieved by the two products separately. If you can give me more of an idea about what you need to do, then I might be able to help.
Just plug it into the snare channel. Then go to Menu / Trigger / Pad Type / hit the pad and choose XP125SD-M for the type as there is no 105T-M in the snare pad selection. That should get you pretty close, and should definitely be playable.
I'm weighing up whether to get the Yamaha DTX6K3-X at the moment. One thing which might help to swing it is the possibility to use my existing TD-1DMK toms and possibly snare on the DTX6 rack. Simon made a great video here, but unfortunately didn't go over the physical cabling. Are the connections all standard between e-Drums, and would the smaller Roland mesh pads connect with both the DTK6 rack and module? Cheers!
Yes, you would be able to use your TD1-DMK pads with this module. The only issue you might have is that the Roland pads might be a bit 'hot' or loud for the module as they are centre cone. However, there are ways around it.
Hi, Simon I'm Denny from Indonesia. I use this DTX Pro for NUX DM8 mesh for snare (I hope you know this China's mesh😅) But I can't find the right setting for this type of snare. My issues are : when I hit the rim, it's turns out with no sound. the rim came out with no sound. And the problem continues when I want hit with the rim shot. It's totally doesn't work. The sound only came from the head. The rim doesnt produce any sound. Or maybe I should to change the snare pad? Thanks Simon, and forgive me for my bad English
Hi ..can you tell me if the DTXPRO has provisions for all the pads on my DTXtreme II kit?.....the pads in this kit are: TP100, TP120SD, KP65, RHH135, PCY130,130S and 150S....any info would be much appreciated......thanks
I don't see why not. However, Roland gear is a little 'hotter' than others so you might have a slightly limited high end (dynamically), even with the Gain on 1, but hopefully you won't notice it.
I have just bought the DTX-Pro to connect with my Yamaha RHP set (using mesh Zed Heads). I was hoping to find a setting for RHP but didn't. What setting would you recommend? Thanks!
@@edruminfo I see the ddrum Cast Precision heads (and a reference to a discontinued ddrum 4 se kit), but they appear to be discontinued. Sounds great though. Presumably drum-tec real-feel mesh heads plus ddrum's new Acoustic Pro triggers would be a step up?
@@frbrty12 Oh, they haven't been made for YEARS! I just grabbed a load of pads to make the video, and that's what I grabbed. If you're using external triggers, then I would suggest the Yamaha DT50's, the Ddrum Pro (not Redshot) or the 2box ones.
@@edruminfo I'm on a DTX 720K kit right now and trying to decide where to go with it. Biggest gripes are small pads and poor hi-hat triggering on the VST side of things. Something magical happens inside the DTX modules though: the hi-hat feels fine on my DTX 700, but sounds... a tad dated. The DTX PRO (thanks in no part to your videos) feels like a solid move here. Presumably Roland's digital offerings would play nicely with the DTX PRO?
@@frbrty12 Just get the module. Use your existing pads (you won't get the rims on the toms, but everything else is good). As long as your hi hat pad is set up correctly with the module, you should be fine with VSTi triggering. I use EzDrummer and SD3 all the time - no hi hat issues.
Does this also work for 3rd party triggers? Thinking about using this module for my acoustic to electric conversion with 2box trigit triggers. Seems like it would work but can anyone confirm? Or should I just use the Yamaha triggers?
Hi, yes, it works with other triggers. Obviously Yamaha would prefer you to use theirs (and the triggers are optimised to work with their modules) but the 2box ones work fine.
@@Fantastic_Timez you can use Roland but they will only be 2 zone. Better and easier to use Yamaha cymbal pads - cheaper, all 3 zone, easier to trigger
@@edruminfo Awesome. I prefer Yamaha cymbals anyway but was just curious. I bought a PCY155 the other day and I love it. Thank you for your answers, they're much appreciated.
simon, I bought the dtx 12" snare to replace the 8" that came with my dtx 6kx. I want to make the 8" into an extra floor tom. do I just plug it in to the extra output on the kp65? and that's it? or do I need to change something on the module?
Hey, I have 2 quick questions. Will the Roland PD 8 two zone pad work as a 2 zone tom pad using this method? Also, can I use a 3 zone Yamaha TP65S as a 2 zone tom? The rim has 2 zones though.. can I make those 2 zones act as just 1 zone? What would I do in the settings to accomplish that? Thanks so much in advance!
Hi. I'm afraid you can't use either the PD8 or the TP65S as a 2 zone tom pad with the DTX-PRO module. This is because they are what is called piezo /switch pads (they have one sensor in the middle and a switch to register the edge hit). The module is expecting piezo/piezo pads (a sensor under the heads and a sensor mounted to the shell to pick up the rim triggers).
@@edruminfo Thanks! I actually found out there's a Yamaha TP80S that's 2 zoned. Will that work? It just has an A/B switch under it, and I have no idea what that does. Would you happen to know? Would the Yamaha TP80S work as a 2 zone tom pad with the Yamaha DTX PRO module? If so, how would I assign it to work within the module? Thanks so much! I really appreciate all of your help!
@@edruminfo Thanks for letting me know! I pretty much want a rubber pad that's the same size as the TP65 and TP70, which is 8.5 inches, that also has a rim to assign a rim sound to. Unfortunately, the only pads I'm seeing are Mesh pads. What 2 zone rubber pads would you recommend for me?
@@NealNot Hi, there aren't any 2 zone rubber pads which use 2 piezo sensors to my knowledge. They all use a switch for the rim as it simpler and more accurate for determining whether the head or the rim was hit. If you want something that small, I would get an 8" tom, cut it in half (so you have 2 single head toms), put mesh heads on and use a conventional drum trigger to give you head and rim. I'll have a think about other ways to do it, but nothing obvious springs to mind at the moment. Do you want to trigger the rim, or do you just want more trigger surfaces? If it is the latter, you could always put a splitter into the tom inputs and use 2 mono triggers to expand the kit. It depends on which direction you want to take.
Hi Simon. Save for the ride and hihat controller, what are the chances that I can find success with the DTX-PRO module connected to Roland CY14s, PDX12s, and PDX8s? Heard that most Roland pads might run too hot to work with a Yamaha module, but I already have a DTX-PRO on the way to compare to my TD-17.
Not yet. Unfortunately it was delayed when C19 hit, but it is coming. However, I would ALWAYS recommend you learn to use a device without the editor first. Otherwise if you have a flat battery on your device or you have a broken cable, you won't be able to use the editor anyway. Best to cover all bases.
Great video! Do you know if I can make this with a Lemon/Roland Hihat Controller (DIY) and make it act as a HH65? I really want to upgrade my Dtx6k-x with a real hihat stand but a regular RHH135 is so expensive in Brazil. I'm looking for alternatives. For the hihat I already purchased a PCY135 3-zone. Thanks!!
Hey Lucas. The RHH135 is expensive in Brazil? More expensive than a Roland controller? The easiest way of doing it would be use the PCY135, mounted on a hi hat stand, but use an HH65 as the controller on the floor. Hopefully that would be quite a bit cheaper. The Lemon and Roland won't work without major rewiring
@@edruminfo thanks for your comment! In Brazil a RHH135 is about 2k BRL (a Brand new DTX6kX Full kit is about 8k). I was considering a lemon hihat controller which costs ~1/4 of that but now I get it wont work. Maybe using a stand with PCY135 and HH65, hopefully I can integrate the stand pedal with HH65. Obviously It will require some DIY work. Thanks a Lot !
Hi, Theoretically yes, with a central cone and using the XP125SD-X trigger setting. You'll need to make sure the module is updated to the latest firmware.
Hello, great video Simon. I own snare and kick by ATV and drum tec with center cone as tom pads. My "doubt" is that with Mesh Head pads from a center trigger like drum tec diabolo series or Roland like PD-128 for example can't be used with the Dtx Pro because the minimum gain is even to high to get them in an appropriate dynamic range. The pads just explode dynamically. That's what I heard but not tried and your video seems to prove that my pads could work well. Could you confirm? Thanks in advance. All the best
Hi Fabio. The ATV pads work perfectly. You are correct in that the centre cone pads from Roland and DrumTec have a much higher output. Strangely, the edge cone Roland pads seem to be much better. There is a simple way to lower the output from a Roland pad so it works. I cant tell you that much more at the moment as I am just finalising the resistor values, but it works very well with both head and rim being tracked fine. I'll let you know when I have more details.
@@edruminfo Thank you for the reply and the videos. I'm still transitioning back to electronics and I'm mainly triggering VSTs at this point. So, I might dust off my Megadrum for the extra inputs. However, that PRO sounds good enough that it might be reasonable to skip the VST for most purposes. Really wish that Yamaha had included multi-channel digital audio. Without it I'd probably be back to VSTi for recording.
Hi Justin. Well you wouldn't get three zones of any non Yamaha pad working as Yamaha have used three zones down a single cable for many years and no one else does (yet). Theoretically any centre cone pad (as long as it gave the same output voltage as a Yamaha pad) could be used for positional sensing on the snare, but most other companies use a different voltage so it wouldn't work with a (for example) Roland pad.
Hi Simon, please help me. I have a yamaha dtx pro and I'm trying to run it from Alesis Crimson pads. Everything works fine / except for the cymbals pads of course/ The only problem is with the kick pad. I only hear pad 13 /china/ no kick sound. Despite the fact that both start indicators are flashing. I tried the stereo cable and the ypsylon cable. Still the same. I also switched both paired and separate on the input. I also tried the red shot trigger and it's still the same, only the china sound /triger 13/. I also made sure that the sound of the kick is not silent anywhere
What kick sound are you triggering? If the indicator is triggering then the module is receiving it, it cant be routed anywhere else, so is the volume down? The voice set to NoAssign? If you go to the voice page, plug in a jack plug into 12/13 and press F3, the audio trigger button, what do you hear?
Voice is assigned. when I press the audition button, a kick sound is heard. But when I kick the pad there is no sound, or cymbal sound / depending on how I determine pairing, or separate@@edruminfo
@@martinkmet5962 Have you made many kits of your own? It may be easiest to do a factory reset as there are various things it could be. Are you listening to main outputs, headphone output or the individual outputs?

Does anyone know if there are any brands of cymbals and pads that can work with the DTX-PROX? I love the module but Yamaha doesn't produce an acoustic design electronic drum set (yet?), and I'm not a fan of their cymbals. I really want to use this module, but it's so incompatible with other brands. AE Hybrid says they never tested their cymbals with the PROX. Field mention generic Yamaha compatibility on their site, but they're not clear for which module or how compatible their cymbals are. I wanted to use drum-tec shells, but their pro 3 series shells won't work with the PROX because the pad output level is too high. ATV pads/cymbals might work, but they don't make a 20" kick. It'd be a shame to not be able to go with this module, but it's looking that way. Thanks!
Yamaha does produce full size set - all their acoustic drum kits with mesh heads and DT50 triggers would perform in exactly the same way. It might not be a dedicated package like a VAD but it does the same job, looks the same, and is better build quality. As for the cymbals, they are much easier to trigger, (especially the bells) than 'other' cymbal pads, and they are significantly cheaper. Of course you can connect ANY pads to a DTX module - you just have to use the correct interface. If you look at the edrumin interfaces from Audiofront, they will allow to to attach any pad from almost any manufacturer to the DTX and get great triggering. You just have to think slightly outside of the box and anything is possible.
@@edruminfo Your response--and your videos--are much appreciated, Simon. I've considered the eDRUMin interface, but clear answers re compatibility have been hard to come by. The only thing I can try out is a VAD507, so I'm forced to buy based solely on reviews/demos (which is why your input is so valuable). To clarify: if I run pads/cymbals (eg: drum-tec, Ef-Note, Field, AE Hybrid Drums) into an eDRUMin 10, then through midi out to the PROX midi in, there's a decently high probability that the module will accept whatever the eDRUMin is sending, allowing me to use the module? I've got no way of confirming this, so if anyone has experience with this, I'd be grateful to hear from you. Then again, my buying process is taking long enough that there's a good chance Yamaha will have released an acoustic design electronic kit before I can figure it all out! Thanks again.
You can but you would only get 2 zones. Yamaha use a much more sophisticated method on their cymbal pads and get 3 zones running through a single cable. Other companies generally use 2 cables for 3 zone cymbal pads. Have you tried the Yamaha cymbal pads? They are well priced, well balanced, are much more responsive on the bell than other brands. The largest size is 17.5" (45cm) which may be a problem for some, but apart from that all good.
@@edruminfo thanks a lot for your reply! I have a couple of yamaha cymbals already, but was curious to know is I could use also Roland ones... by the way, the DTX Pro module is on the way, so I will test it by myself! Thanks again.
I was wondering if anyone had the dtx-pro module that comes with the dtx8k-m set up and if so, would anyone know how to add a pad that can act as a trigger for the cross stick button? I’ve seen this fine somewhere before but I lost where/how it was done. I know you can add a pad of any type and set a sound for it to trigger as, but someone actually has theirs set to turn on and off the cross stick function button on their module
Easy . Plug a pad into any spare input. Then go Menu, Utility, Pad, Pad Function, hit the pad you want to change, and then select XStick On/Off and save the kit.
Hi, I have 3 atv toms and some CY8, CY12, CY13, KD10 roland pads and an FD9 controller, do you think if I get a dtx pro module will it work with my stuff?
Hi. No, because the new modules tom channels work in a different way to the old modules. The XP80 will only work in mono in a DTXPRO tom channel. You’ll need to split the input and plug in a second pad to access the second zone, or use one of the new pads.
And the Snare? I tryed this but it didn't work. I changed it ro DT 50S SN but it it just make one sound. Editi: It worked! The pad I bought is the ATV xD-P13M.
Did you change the pad, or the trigger setting? If you changed from a pad to the DT50 then you need to change the trigger setting too. Were you using a mono or stereo cable?
@@edruminfo It Worked! THANK YOU!!! The most important thing for me was the Minimum level. It was set in 30, so I needed to hit the pad very hard to hear the rimshot and the cross-stick. Then I set it in 5 and ALL CHANGED.
Yamaha cymbal pads work in a different way to others. For the last 20 years, Yamaha has done 3 zone pads down a single cable, very successfully. Roland and ATV use 2 cables for their 3 zone pads, so if you used them, you would only have 2 of the 3 zones available, but they would work. Yamaha have also done their hi hat pads differently from Roland so you cannot use the Roland hi hat with these modules, unless you used something like an eDrumIn module between them. You COULD take the midi out from your existing module and go into these modules and use their sounds, but it would mean using 2 modules. If you haven't tried the Yamaha cymbal pads, you need to - they are much easier to play (particularly the bell) than other brands.
@@edruminfo thank u Simon. Yes I have several Yamaha cymbals and like them very much. I run an Alesis strike pro module with my A2E conversion. I already knew the Yamaha HH would not work (please correct me if I am wrong) so I bought the Roland vh p which works fairly well but not good enough. I bought the ATV ride because I had to have a larger ride cymbal and that works well with strike module. I am trying to get back into the Yamaha eco system for my A2E kit. I have a dtx 900 module but don’t use it with my band because the module has an issue running out to the board in stereo. Unknown why.
@@Steve2112Rocks It sounds to me like your 900 module has the individual outputs turned on (so random stuff will be coming out of the main left and right). Just received my DTX ProX module. I can’t get my snare dialed in, it’s a DIY with extreme triggers. Sensitivity a 0 sill will not pick up ghost notes, hooked up my ATV AD5 and tested my snare and it worked fine. Any suggestions?
Hi. Do you mean Sensitivity at 0? Because if so, that is not what you want to do. 'Sensitivity' on the ProX is low end sensitivity, not general sensitivity (which is Gain), so to pick up your ghost notes you need to turn Sensitivity up. Set your Gain so it peaks on 127 when you hit is hard, then set you MinLevel so it catches your ghost notes but no lower. If it cant detect your ghost notes at this point, then turn up the Sensitivity (not gain) until it does. Then set your Velocity Curve to suite the feel you want. That should do it.
@@edruminfo that was it many thanks!!! I'm planning on swapping out the drums one at a time for the natural DTX. Any suggestions on getting atv or roland hihats & cymbals working with the prox?
@@davidanderson3576 Yamaha use a completely different system to Roland or ATV for the cymbals, so unless you use something to convert them first (such as an Audiofront eDrumin) you won't get them to work with the ProX. But there is a problem. The problem is between Head and Rim both in Snare and Toms. I can't play simultaneously rim and head. When I hit head and rim at the same time I usually hear the head of snare or tom and occasionally rim. But striking them simultaneously I never hear them both (i never hear head and rim plying together). Why is that and is there any solution of this problem?
Hi Piotr. Firstly, it is not a problem - it is meant to happen like that, BUT it can be changed if you want. Firstly, a bit of background. 99% of electronic kits will allow you to only play the head or the rim shot of a pad, but not both together. This is because an electronic drum cannot replicate the way a REAL rimshot is made. When you hit an acoustic snare head, you get just the head sound. When you hit an acoustic snare rim, you get just the rim sound. But when you hit a rimshot (both head and rim at the same time) you get a third sound - the shell of the drum vibrates much more so you get the head, rim AND shell sound all together which gives you the bigger, fatter rimshot sound. So to copy this, electronic drum manufacturers (almost all of them) have the head sound on the head, and the rim shot sound on the rim, but not ’third’ rim only sound. This is because, if you have just the rim and the head sound, together, you DONT get a rim shot sound - it doesn’t sound right, it sounds thin. But on the DTXpro you can split the pad inputs so you CAN have two sounds (head and rim) at the same time, but you have to be careful - if you have a rim shot sound on the rim, and a head sound on the head, and you hit both, it will not sound like a rim shot. If you want to try this, do this - Press Menu, Go to Trigger, press Enter, Go to Input Mode, press Enter. Change all the pad settings which are ‘paired’ to ’separate’ by moving the cursor down and pressing the ‘-‘ key. Now each pad will have two separate sounds which can be triggered together, but like I said above, be careful, and listen carefully to make sure the sounds do not sound strange together. I hope that helps. Simon

Great explanation Simon, thank you for the video! I have got 3 custom toms and 1 snare, all 2 zone mesh head. It is possible to use the XP80 and 3 XP70 originals pads as extra ones? Like a second snare and more cymbals? what is the procedure? Thank you for the info.
Hi. Thanks for watching. Well, you can plug the XP80 into input 14 and have that as a 3 zone pad - that would be perfect for a second snare with all three zones. Then you can add one of the XP70 into the kick channel if you use a splitter cable. But then Im afraid you have run out of channels, unless you want to lose the tom rims. So you can definitely add 2 more pads with 4 zones between them.
@@edruminfo I'll try it. How about adding extra cymbals, like one PCY155? Are there extra channels for that or should I split it between another cymbal? Thanks again.
Hi simon, can i use a yamaha dt50s trigger for the snare drum and plugged it in the dtxpro module with no problems? Im planning to buy acoustic snare drum and make it as my hybrid snare using dt50s
Hi, yes, you would need to change the type of trigger to DT50 (snare) and you would have to tweak the trigger settings to suit the mesh head type and the way you play, but it will work fine.
@@edruminfo simon, which bass drum can you recommend? I want to replace also the stock bass drum of my yamaha dtxkit . Im looking at the one you use in the video with the same profile but its hard to find here in the uk.
@@Worldpaintedblood-md2fw the one in the video is a 2box kick pad, which you can find easily and cheaply on Ebay (I'm in the UK too), but to be honest it doesn't really matter what you use - buy any kick pad and it will work , or get a real bass drum, put a mesh head and trigger on it and that will work fine too.
There is one VERY easy way to solve this. You need some gel damping pads (like Moongel, but Skygel is better as they have a plastic coating on one side and will not mark the head). Take off the head and put one or two (or three if you are a very heavy hitter) of the gels on top of the cone. Put the head back on, trapping the gels between the head and the cone. The gels act as a noise gate, and also reduce the signal level from the head. It is a physical change, rather than a software change, and is fully reversible. The pads I tested it with before (when I made the video) were triple edge cone pads and they have a lower output level to centre cone pads. I have done what I describe above to a PD125 and it works great. Try that.
@@edruminfo yeah, now I just need some help to import 40 snare samples from quiet to loud, I imported them but the module plays the quiet first and then the loudest
@@laloadler8044 Yes, without help that's a little bit trickier. Its page 66 of the combined PRO PROX Reference Manual. I'm going to be doing a video on this in a few weeks time when we film some more instructional videos. If I have time before hand, I'll film one myself.
will this work for roland and carlsbro pads? i have a kit with both their pads and i linked their modules tgt with phones out to aux in but i’m thinking of getting this so i’ll just have one module
It depends on the pads. If they are centre cone then they might have too high an output to get full dynamic range, but if they are edge cone, then the output will probably be a more manageable level.
@@smilinswami2195 You will get even less out of a DTX700. That module is designed to work with Yamaha's 3 zone pads, so you will only get the head to work of your pads, and even then, with a limited dynamic range I'm afraid.

i've been trying to get answers to these questions for a long time, thank you so much for making this video!
Thanks Geff! Pleased it was useful.

Thanks.
Great video! Very informative and easily explained. Does the same apply for using a Roland KT10 as a kick?
Thank you. Totally - no different.
Great demo - as always. Are Yamaha about to manufacture mesh heads for this series?
All I'm doing is showing how it can be done... if you already have, say Roland, or ATV, or Alesis pads!
Oh, and thank you Terry!

No problem Tony! Thanks for watching
@@Drummergolfer427 Thank you for the kind words. I'll try - time allowing!
However, when I need lots of cross stick I normally just assign it to another pad, but the choice is yours.
can you use the Yamaha triggers DT50S & DT50K with this module and go dual zone with them (DT50S)?
Yes you can - DT50S will go (2 zone) into snare and each tom channel (also the kick channel, but you probably don't need that!)
@@edruminfo Thank you
Can it work with roland cymbals?
I have watched this video a couple of times and i have tried everything that you suggest but still can't get it to work as it should
I'm thinking of buying a DT50s or an ATV xd 13^ meash head pad.
Hi Simon, How would I go about connecting a XP105T-M as a snare pad on my DTX Pro ? Thanks for putting these videos up they are great !!

@@NealNot hi. I’m afraid that won’t either. Same issue. Wrong pad configuration.
Hi Rain - I've replied to your email, rather than here. Short answer yes, sort of, but not the hi hat controller.
Have you heard anything from Yamaha for software (or even a Beta) for the DTX-Pro? They have it for the DTX 502, 402 and DTXM12 Touch.
Not yet. Unfortunately it was delayed when C19 hit, but it is coming. However, I would ALWAYS recommend you learn to use a device without the editor first. Otherwise if you have a flat battery on your device or you have a broken cable, you won't be able to use the editor anyway. Best to cover all bases.

Hello Simon. Is it possible to make the positional sensing work on a diy e-snare with 2 zones?

Without it I'd probably be back to VSTi for recording.
Hi Simon. Is it possible to make positional sensing work on centre mounted triggers and non-Yamaha cymbals?

Hey drummers, is this module the one that goes with yamaha dtx6k3 kit? Thanks
Yes, the DTXpro module comes with the DTX6 range.
What about cymbals? Can be used other brand cymbals on the DTX Pro and Pro X?
You can but you would only get 2 zones. Yamaha use a much more sophisticated method on their cymbal pads and get 3 zones running through a single cable. Other companies generally use 2 cables for 3 zone cymbal pads. Have you tried the Yamaha cymbal pads? They are well priced, well balanced, are much more responsive on the bell than other brands. The largest size is 17.5" (45cm) which may be a problem for some, but apart from that all good.

Hi Simon, am I able to assign a different voice to the rim of a xp80 if I plug it into one of the Tom ports of a dtxpro?
Hi. No, because the new modules tom channels work in a different way to the old modules. The XP80 will only work in mono in a DTXPRO tom channel. You’ll need to split the input and plug in a second pad to access the second zone, or use one of the new pads.
So if i have extra xp80 pads I can't use them as a dual zone toms on the dtxpro module because they're not piezo/piezo they're piezo/switch?
@@jameeldababneh4757 Exactly. The heads will work. The rims won’t.
@edruminfo but the snare input can read both piezo/piezo and piezo/switch right?
@@jameeldababneh4757 Correct
@@edruminfo thank you for your help🙏🏽 will this be the same case for the older dtx502 module or will the xp80 pad work as dual zone toms on it?
@ Hi. No problem. The same I’m afraid. If you want 3 zone toms you need to look at the DTX700 and DTX900 modules.
@@jadergn Yes, you need to set the cross stick setting to suit your playing. Well done - you did it before I could reply!
Good
Simon i notice all you cymbals were Yamaha is this module compatible with Roland or Atv? I currently have Roland vh10 hat and the atv 18 in ride.
Check that that is turned off first and then see how it behaves. If thats not the problem, get back to me - I have never known something go wrong with one of those so its probably a settings issue.
Have you tried the Yamaha cymbals though? They trigger much better and much more easily (particularly the bells) than some of the other brands and just because they are cheaper doesn't mean they are any worse. Plus they work perfectly with that module. I think you'll be surprised.
@@edruminfo WOW WOW & WOW!!!!!! Just received the first of my Yamaha cymbals (RHH 135) blow away, better triggering and feel than my trusty VH11 or ATV 14". Great call, looking forward to getting my ride and crashes!!!!!!!!!!!
@@davidanderson3576 Great! Please you like them.
Simon
@@edruminfo Thank You Simon. Those tips helped me a lot
I think that You Simon are one of the best instructors/ teachers on this planet. Your tips and instructions helped me more than any Manual. I strongly recomend watching Your videos to everybody who needs deeper knowledge about using electronic drums, especially Yamaha .
@@edruminfo thanks simon!👍
@@edruminfo simon, which bass drum can you recommend? I want to replace also the stock bass drum of my yamaha dtxkit . Im looking at the one you use in the video with the same profile but its hard to find here in the uk.
@@Worldpaintedblood-md2fw the one in the video is a 2box kick pad, which you can find easily and cheaply on Ebay (I'm in the UK too), but to be honest it doesn't really matter what you use - buy any kick pad and it will work , or get a real bass drum, put a mesh head and trigger on it and that will work fine too.
@@edruminfo for the bass drum trigger, can i still use the yamaha dts50 ? Thanks simon.
I tried the Roland PD-128 and PD-108 and they are too hot even with gain set at 1
There is one VERY easy way to solve this. Try that.
@@edruminfo thanks for the tip, I would try it but I’m now the proud owner of the DTX-8KX ✌🏼
@@laloadler8044 Ha! Good choice!
Just ordered one... don't think at 71 I can do this... lol
will this work for roland and carlsbro pads? i have a kit with both their pads and i linked their modules tgt with phones out to aux in but i’m thinking of getting this so i’ll just have one module
It depends on the pads. If they are centre cone then they might have too high an output to get full dynamic range, but if they are edge cone, then the output will probably be a more manageable level.
is it the same if i get the DTX 700?
@@smilinswami2195 You will get even less out of a DTX700. That module is designed to work with Yamaha's 3 zone pads, so you will only get the head to work of your pads, and even then, with a limited dynamic range I'm afraid.
