"Oh boo hoo people are paying me a lot of money to make a movie about a character that I don't want to anymore. Oh my God my life is so horrible, why doesn't anybody just leave me alone"
If he wanted the character to die, he just didn't have to make the movie. For a sequel movie to be obligatory, it would probably have to be on people's contracts. Now honestly the studio probably didn't think the first movie was going to be a huge success. As it actually did surprised everyone. So I doubt that prior to the first movie coming out there were contracts about creating a sequel. So contractually, he wouldn't have been obligated to make this movie. Unless HE agreed to it after the first one came out. In which case, bro you played yourself. Don't take it out on the audience because you signed on the dotted line.

The ending of him getting stabbed was just so unsatisfying. It's like I sat there for 2hr18min for that? It felt like no one but Arthur actually interacted with Harley for the whole movie so personally I thought she was just in his mind. And the random inmate we never met before, at least I don't remember him, kills him and carves his own face up like Heath Ledger's Joker... absurd. 🙄

I would have swapped that out to a final scene showing Arthur in bed, or in a padded room, in a straight jacket with yellow bloodshot eyes and a huge richter mortis grin on his face, further implying it's unclear how much of both films happened and how much is in his mind, but either way Fleck isn't Joker.... he's a victim of Joker venom.

Makes perfect sense from a narrative standpoint, he was never the Joker all along even the first movie has enough stuff to peel back to show that's the case. He was always just some "random guy". Having it cut to (assuming) Heth, the actual Joker is brilliant. The rest of the movie I couldn't stand but the ending is the one thing they got right.

This universe has its own Harvey Dent and they even showed how he lost half his face. There's no way there are two Harvey Dent district attorneys who both happened to lose half of their face. THAT would be one fucking HELL of a coincidence. And during the Dark Knight no one mentions the name Arthur Fleck while someone is running around Gotham calling themselves Joker? There's no way.

Todd Philips had the right to say no to a sequel, but he said yes, only to fuck over the fans and general audiences who wanted to see the evolution of the character. No one should idolize the joker, so that point could’ve still come across showing us that he is indeed a crazy mf, that does awful shit.
In the first one he was the underdog, we felt bad for him, now imagine in the sequel we don’t feel bad for him, we actually hate him towards the end, like you would a realistic joker. he could’ve delved deep into the psyche of a broken individual who sees society and people as jokes and then is given power. The director is so entitled for the move he made, actually pisses me off how he really gave the fans a middle finger. Yea give the studio a middle finger that’s fine but when u do it to your fans that different. Total opposite of what Ryan Reynolds’s did, and he gave the studio a middle finger the whole time but delivered for the fans.
    SPOILER ALERT 🔔
He could’ve still died at the end by the “real joker” taking inspiration from the crimes he committed. But we would’ve seen the chaos he had brought to Gotham and had been satisfied with the end. He would’ve been too old for Batman anyways so it would make sense that the joker for the bat was inspired by this guy.

The only Joker here is Phillips being so narcissistic to scold his fans for appreciating the first film by having them wait in anticipation, pay money, and then waste their time. But I suppose that too could be related to the second film when Joker says “there is no Joker”. If this movie is meant to undo the first movie by saying something like “you guys weren’t meant to idealize Joker” well maybe it appears Phillips is also saying “there isn’t a talented director” because if you make a film and it gets taken the wrong way we’ll; maybe you are just Arthur.

Saw it yesterday and it was ok. Feels like the director really didn’t want to make this sequal. Kinda boring until the very end.
The twist at the end made me think of the “three joker theory” from the comics where there’s three separate jokers from each era.
If they ever do green light a 3rd film, it would be cool to see this new joker take a more comic accurate joker.

That Todd Philips comment about meta commentary. So similar to the matrix 4. While I can understand that frustration, there’s a level of ingratitude that these creatives get to work in a field that is lucrative and of their choosing. So many folks work jobs they hate day after day just to get by.

Pretty much sounds to me like, with the first movie, Philips accidentally made a movie that spoke to men's anger at being abused by a society that increasingly benefits the rich elite and espouses intersectional feminism, which uses men as punching bags. When the media came out and decided that the fact that the this movie did speak to that anger meant that incels were going to shoot up movie theaters across the country, Philips was probably aghast and wanted to distance himself from that interpretation of the movie so much that he made a whole new movie to do it.

1980s anyway, this new joker could end up being like Jack Napier (89) because of Bruce's age, the gap. But who knows, this joker...in my mind cannon,😅 will also eventually die and then,we get another joker who will face off against a young brand new Batman. I don't know..I liked this film, Joaquin is brilliant in it👍🏻🃏 few things I didn't like, but otherwise it was alright.

I think the movie was great side from him dying! It really explores a lot of real life things, it’s not supposed to be a superhero movie the first one wasn’t! Now the musical aspect wasn’t perfectly executed but it def showcased the insanity! Those moments are moments where you see insanity/mental illness come to life! I felt utterly heartbroken for poor Arthur something I’ve never felt for the joker! It def a bitter sweet movie! But cinematically and plot wise it made sense! For what it was mean to be!

As a life long Joker fan, the bulk of reactions to this movie are astounding and infuriating. Firstly, why does the fandom seem so against niche explorations of the concepts of these characters. Many fans seem against the homogenous stories currently rampant in comic book movies, yet throw tantrums when something new is delivered. Secondly, this was NEVER a Batman universe Joker, nor did it ever claim to be. Personally, I think the weakest part of the first movie was the brief alley seen with Bruce Wayne near the end. That felt like fan service, and not in the good way. At the VERY least, there was the age discrepancy to show that these two characters were not being set up to interact. Obviously, these are movies about mental illness, and parasocial relationships, respectively. For those who are looking for comic accurate Joker, we will get plenty in due time. Honestly, it seems like the audience feels called out, and rightfully so. The reaction to the first movie was, by all accounts, unexpected and, except for the studio, unwanted. Todd and Phoenix appeared to want something to disorientate and possibly turn off the audience. I believe they achieved their goal, with great artistic integrity. I do believe the ending could have been finessed a little better but was absolutely the right choice. I'd be curious as to the demographic breakdown of those who are upset, as it seems to be the usual suspects, who were indeed triggered as intended.
Put a little love in your heart. 🤡

Like maybe the joker verse is earth 118 and the dark knight universe is like earth 108 hence why this univeres has a joker similar to ledger.

I would have simply changed the ending slightly.
Emphasize the date at the beginning of the film. After he's taken back to prison at the end, I would have had the final scene be someone crossing a day off the calendar to show it's the same day the film started on and walks over to a bed where Arthur is laying in a straight jacket, his eyes yellowed and bloodshot with a huge grin frozen on his face. No explanation, that's just the end.
The obvious implication being any or all of both films could be entirely in his head and Fleck is not Joker, but a victim of Joker venom.
But that's just what comes to my mind to put a pin in this with no further sequels.
