    I don't get why everyone wants to put a turbo in there crosstrek... it doesn't accelerate like an M3....that's because it's a crossover. If you want a fast Subaru go get a WRX/STI. If you want a fuel efficient, awesome all round car for camping, off-roading, road tripping, and holy shit awesome traction in the snow, get a Crosstrek/Outback/Forester. I chose the Crosstrek for it's clearance, short wheel base, and ability to haul all of my stuff. It has torque, I've never felt like the engine wasn't able to deliver sufficient power to the wheels, even in pretty crazy terrain. It accelerates fine...it's not a drag racer believe it or not, but with my 2015 CVT I've never once wanted more acceleration other then just purely wanting to feel the rush. It's an AWD with plenty of room, and easily gets high 30's, low 40's in MPG even in the mountainous state of Utah.

      I agree. This isn't a sports car so why do people expect it to behave like one. I love mine, had it for two months during some of the worst winter weather in ten years (Vancouver BC), and this little machine is unstoppable in the snow! It feels very solid and well built and the power is decent enough for what it is (I'm coming from a Bmw coupe) and it is actually a lot of fun to drive. I'm still trying to figure out why most reviewers are knocking the CVT. I think it works fine and every time I fill up (Which is about half as often, and half as much money as the Bmw) I thank the engineers at Subaru for putting it in.

    Funny, for all of you who are complaining about the oil consumption, and everything else, I have a '14 and I've never had any issues with it, it's a great little car, does what it's supposed to and what I ask of it, and it's always reliable

    I would like to see Subaru up the ante a little by adding a 6 speed manual, and a turbo charger, adding about 50 ponies to the current under powered offerings.

      +Irishmick Subaru needs to emphasize what the Crosstreks about-Wickedly good MPG and one of the safest cars you can be in a accident in.These did better than any Audi in a overlap crash test-Toyota? Failed-2 years in a row....

      +Che Ribinson....that is good to know. I've been somewhat of a fan of Subaru since the 90's, have never owned one, but have test driven a few Foresters, one WRX. They just haven't fit my needs as of yet,
      but perhaps one day.

      +Irishmick not really sure why they never brought in 6 speed manual in the US. But here in Europe... Ireland in particular we have that 6 speed. Not much people driving on the road though. I like it in a way that my car is unique! :)

    Wow, this is the first review that actually addresses how odd the XV Crosstrek (now Crosstrek in North American markets) is in its category.
    Although based on the Impreza, a compact, it doesn't quite directly compare with today's "compact" CUV's such as the RAV4, CR-V, Forester, Escape, etc. In fact, because its a smaller crossover than the now-traditional compact CUV, it is indeed often compared to subcompact CUV's, despite being a compact-sized CUV. I'm glad you guys addressed this as it seems most automotive publications have not acknowledged this.

    yes HR-V and CX-3 starts around $20k but it's front-wheel-drive if you want the AWD it's around $24k same has the Crosstrek...

  • @jasong3380
    @jasong3380 8 лет назад +7

    We bought one and love it..BUT my God is it slow! The manual gearbox was a mistake to purchase. There's literally a huge lag in power out of first. It's very frustrating. The automatic we test drove wasn't nearly as bad. Like others have said, if they dropped the WRX engine into this...it would put this car at a whole other level.

    The Crosstrek is what happens when Subaru wants to make the outback today, but has to deal with CAFE rules. Great car, my buddy has the 2015 version. Incredible in the snow/offroad, and if you get the manual you will have one of the most fun cars to drive, period.

    • @spacepirateivynova
      @spacepirateivynova 8 лет назад

      Not really. That's been solved with the valve cover design. Older Subaru's are quite difficult to own, but the newer ones have addressed the issues with the older Boxer Engine designs.

    I have had very bad luck with the 2013 -2015 subarus. 2013 wrx 3 transmitions withing 40,000 miles. 2014 subaru legacy was the worst by far, awd failure ,anti lock break failure , steering failure, traction control actually caused me to get into an accident. Let me explain while going down a steep hill on a right hand turn my passenger side tires hit a patch of snow and locked up , sending the rotational force to the driver side , causing the car to violent turn hard to the right and pushed me off the road and caused an accident. Also the car will hesitate when pulling out from a stop , is very bad if the car is on a slight bit of gravel the car will stop in the middle of the street and then after a second re engage the power, not to mention the stalling and countless other problems . Have been to the dealer multiple times and they have said the car is functioning as intended , even contacted subaru corporate , had the same experience . If you decide to look at a subaru during the test drive ask to test the awd system if they say no or have no way for you to test it leave and do not trust them.

    • @cherobinson6371
      @cherobinson6371 8 лет назад

      +TheTroyKunz You forgot this one-Subaru says right in the owners manual-that using a quart of oil every 1k is NORMAL..HAHA yeah on a 72 Pinto...
      Many are facing oil consumption issues -we got lucky with ours but the overall quality? -Shat!!!

    whats all this off the beaten path stuff going to the cottage crap? The extra ground clearance is for commuters too. Parking curbs, plowed snow, pot holes, snow banks, low driveways have torn my wrx front end to shreds. ground clearance is huge

      +iamnotfernando Agreed. And don't forget the nice approach and departure angles for those uneven driveways. I've lost count how many times I've scraped the front end of my Chevy Cobalt just trying to enter a parking lot.

  • @kc5077
    @kc5077 8 лет назад

    It's funny the Crosstrek and RVR/Outlander Sport came out ahead of the curve and are slightly bigger than the subcompacts. I think both provide better value than most subcompact CUVs. Both should offer a 6 speed manual instead of the 5.

    I purchased a brand new 2016 Crosstrek Limited with EyeSight/Navigation. Interior is cheap looking. The speakers are terrible. The Starlink feature is subscription based and no real added value. The voice control for navigation is AWFUL. The technology in this 2016 is quite embarrassing for the price they charge for the vehicle. If you test drive the car, test all the features, with and without using your smartphone. Vehicle is grossly underpowered, it really needs to be 175HP. The real problem with the lack of HP, accelerating onto the freeway. My 2007 Prius does a better job.
    The best thing about the car: Blind spot system, ride is nice, can fit 3 adults in the back, compact, safety/crash tests. But for the price, there are way too many shortcomings. I would not buy this car again. If you can't tell, I'm really disappointed in the technology. The dealer went over the basics, seemed fine, BUT you should have a full demo and ask a lot of questions.

Excellent Fuel economy and one of the safest cars on the road,plus AWD and a great engine,all those who question it just don't see what it is. It's a super safe awd that gets unreal gas mileage.we've gotten over 50mpg on some hwy trips 35 in the city is the norm.

      +tastyorange Bought a Quartz Blue Metallic last month, 2016. The hyper blue looks ok on a Crosstrek but it looks a lot better on an STI I saw. Since I had black in the past, traded my dark gray Acura, and had silver, wanted to try a different color. The quartz blue looks nice, glad I picked it. By the way, drove through 18 inches of snow from the storm we had in January in PA, drove through it no problem at all, it was great.

    • @tastyorange

    I'm in the market for one, but have held back because the Crosstrek with the hybrid engine was sound insulated, but the non-hybrid wasn't sound insulated. I don't want to pay a lot more for a hybrid that doesn't give much better gas mileage, and I don't want to buy a noisy vehicle. Is this still true for 2016? If so, I'm not buying.

  • @Coupydog

    • @FCFordLord
      @FCFordLord 8 лет назад

      It is the other way around on US models; automatics (CVT or regular) get anywhere from 2-4MPG more than the manual counterparts.

    • @Coupydog
      @Coupydog 8 лет назад

      +FCFordLord In this case that's true, particularly because the 5 speed man. they offer keeps engine revs at or above 3,000 at highway cruising speeds, while the CVT (or 6 speed man Overseas Models) drops it down closer to 2,000 rpm's.

      its not about it being a sports car, its about it being at a safe speed. a slow car is a dangerous car IMO. I'm not saying it has to be racetrack fast but it should have enough power that if feels safe to drive. say you're going into a fast highway, hit that gas pedal and catch up to oncoming traffic with no problem. driving a slow car just doesn't feel safe to me.

      +Che Robinson seriously, did Tomomi Nakamura murder your family? Did a Subaru result in you losing everything you own? I have never seen someone so passionately hate a company as much as you hate Subaru. I don't even search for you and I see you on _every_ video that has anything to do with Subaru. You complain about things that are no longer problems or have been addressed when they were problems. A few times, you've made up problems that either don't exist or are uncommon.
      Tell me - what car company with equal or higher volume hasn't experienced some major problem? If you think Subaru is bad, at least they're not known for lying to their customers or responsible for deaths due to engineering failures. Hell, they don't even have the worst paint or oil burning problems.

      I believe some vehicles' fog lights would turn on and off depending on which direction you are turning. the Renegade does that too, I think.

  • @Vladg111

    You guys missed the most important detail about the vehicle - All-Wheel Drive system.

    • @Vladg111
      @Vladg111 8 лет назад

      Also, a very crucial detail. How reliable is the car (or potentially is) and how expensive it is expected to be on maintenance and insurance. These things should be on every car review.

    1:35 why do both fog lights turn on and off while it's driving

    • @MrKikoboy
      @MrKikoboy 8 лет назад +1

      +DoubleD 613 I think they follow the turn direction - maybe they are off in daytime but turn on for the turn - I would imagine if always on at night they would follow wheel direction to light up the corner you are turning into...

      +Dhanabol Pradipdham I agree. It looks like an arbitrary styling change that serves no purpose other than to copy what other cars have. It doesn't make the car more attractive at all.

      +shadowdance4666 Paddle shifters on the cvt give you manual 6 speed -Hey? read up cause theres a lot of people that are mad for getting shafted by Subaru .Oil consumption ...Google befpre you even look at them-Subaru claims using a litre-Quart every 1k is normal-12 dollars per Litre -if you drive an average20k a year? thats two mandatory oilchanges at 150 buks each plus 20 quarts at 12 bucks each-The real issue? wheres the oil going? I got lucky with my 15 -so far but many havent...
      talked 2 a guy the other day on his 3rd motor at 10k.the fix is 8 grand...

    Subaru turbo this car and im sold. Be a perfect family car and would still have performance for that exhilarating drive i look for from time to time. Wrx is to small and not enough ground clearance IMO

      +Captain Carter have 2 admit we got a 15 and theres times on the highway we got out 2 make sure they were on cause -so dull.. the real issue though is the fact that Subaru says every 1k miles its normal to use a quart of oil!!! What are these? 75 Datsuns?

    • @KevinSmith-kg2nk
      @KevinSmith-kg2nk 6 лет назад

      Shut up already, your car burns oil because you have the pedal on the floor 95% of your drive, have you ever thought you might be the problem when nobody else is having this issue?

      Okay, to be truthful I was just joking about the metric stuff. Most Americans are lost about the Km per liter thing. We went to Vancouver a couple years back and got an experience about that.

    Still that old fashioned, 5 speed, non-overdrive manual transmission? Deal breaker, no thanks.

    • @FCFordLord
      @FCFordLord 8 лет назад

      5th acts as overdrive, netting about 31mpg on the highway.

    • @Coupydog
      @Coupydog 8 лет назад

      +FCFordLord Does it? Would you say 1,000 engine RPM's higher at Freeway cruising speeds, compared to the same car w/CVT or European Spec 6 Spd Manual is overdrive? The 31mpg's could be significantly better. They need to stop worrying about not selling those CVT's or Foresters & give USA the 6 Spd Manual! Only people who don't know their arse from their elbows think what they offer is the best choice.

    • @KevinSmith-kg2nk
      @KevinSmith-kg2nk 6 лет назад

      It's about keeping the price down, anyway the 2018 has a 6 speed that isn't really needed in a small car like this but is appreciated.
