This review: Reasons not to buy a Subaru Crosstrek - 1. It can't accelerate like a top fuel dragster 2. It can't rock climb like a mountain goat 3. It can't carry as much cargo as a semi-truck 4. It can't seat as many people as a school bus 5. You won't get the ladies to flock to you. 6. It doesn't have a turret, let alone a cannon- BIG minus there. Great comment. I'm soo sick of reviewers dinging this car because it doesn't go 0-60 in 5 seconds. Then if it did and got crap fuel economy...which it would they'd trash it for that.
I thought the acceleration was excellent! I have been driving since the 1980’s. The gas mileage is great! It’s price is excellent especially on the base model.. I have a 2024
@@tjj5337 it accelerates great compared to 80s cars lol. Back then a typical family sedan had 100hp and a hatchback 60hp. This Crosstrek comes in at 150hp or 180hp, which is late 90s japaneses sedan horsepower (like our 97 Altima had). This is pretty low given nowadays 200hp is usually available, and even fairly basic EVs like a Model 3 will accelerate in traffic as quick as a BMW M3 (yes, the Model 3 base goes 30-60 s fast as a M3, 2.5s). Would be nice if the STI engine was available in a Crosstrek or Outback, with 350hp.
Just read all the comments here. Clearly the audience who actually own this car love it and consider your review as uninformed bias. I own this car and couldn’t be happier with my choice.
Subaru Crosstrek is my Number 1 car. My first crosstrek I have is in 2017 lease it for 3 years.. then I got new 2021 Crosstrek sports fully loaded. This year 2024 I decided to purchase the car because I love it very much. Highly recommended Subaru.
I own a Ctrek wilderness and I agree with everything you said but, one thing I love about my car is that is fully loaded and ready for adventure and more important I can virtually park it anywhere for such small and convenient size. No regrets.
I totally agree! I love the compact size. Got it especially because my wife is a new driver. I was concerned that she would have trouble parking in tight NYC parking spots and wanted something that was high enough for road visibility, would be able to handle bumps and not overwhelmingly fast where she'd feel like she was losing control. I have a fully loaded sport trim which makes a world of difference. This 2022 model is features rich and loaded with so much tech that Subaru never even brags about. The driver assistance is so next level that I shut it off because I was afraid that the car was practically driving itself! The Starlink app while not great is still robust and a welcomed plus. I'm coming off my lease soon and afraid to look at anything else. If I can get my trim package in a 2025 then I'm all in!
@@jgoge123I was at Hertz and I had a choice of mini SUVs to pick. I decided to pick the 2024 CrossTrek. I’m a fan! Sadly, I’m not quite ready for a new model. I’m actively looking for used. How do you like your ‘21? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

2024 Subaru Crosstrek was just named the #1 SUV under $30k by Consumer Reports. After hearing your biased blog, I bought the 2024 Crosstrek and my wife loves it.. so much so , we bough another Impreza for my my son due to the great MPG it offers. This is one lame video. The crosstrek is one hot little SUV that’s kills the competition in AWD and Affordability! No other company compares. The Toyota you compared it to is like $40-45k! GTFOH
I own a 2018, looking at maybe a 2024 or waiting another year. Unlike me, my husband goes through cars like water. He doesn’t discriminate… all brands, all types, big small, sporty, utilitarian, luxury, auto, manuals, turbo, naturally aspirated, v4, v6, v8, whatever. I think he’s had over 45 cars. Anyways, long story short, because of him I have experienced a lot of cars and have a clear understanding of the differences and the pros/cons. My honest opinion is the Crosstrek is the best bang for the buck. Does everything I need it to do, runs well, easy to maintain, has features I appreciate, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. I have 80k miles atm on mine. When it’s time I’ll probably get another.
I did months of research before buying the 24 Sport. The 2.5 liter is plenty of engine. I've owned some very fast cars and that's not what the Crosstrek is about. There is an MPG penalty for fast 0-60 times... shocker. Five of the cars I've owned were premium German luxury machines yet the Crosstrek Sport is my favorite car ever. There's a reason this car is #1 in its segment. This car feels fantastic on the road and gets great fuel economy. You can go up to 500 miles on a single tank. That's impressive.
The Crostrek's direct Toyota competition is the Corolla Cross, which does have a very fuel efficient hybrid engine, but can't be mentioned in the same sentence as the Crosstrek when it comes to off road ability
Just retired (sold) my TJ Wrangler and picked up a ‘24 wilderness crosstrek. Same outdoor spirit but WAY more tech. Its SHOCKING going from roll up windows and a radio to a 152 page “quick start” guide lol. I really like it and have always wanted a subaru. Hoping itll be my reliable little buddy for the next 10+ years at least.
Owned a 16 premium Crosstrek with the 2.0. Loved it, true it's no racer, but it's not meant to be dude. In 21 custom ordered my second Crosstrek premium and gave my 16 to my brother. Both are still going strong with only basic maintenance needed. These are solid vehicles and offer so much value for cost. If your budget is unlimited sure you can get a 62 grand Bronco or a 70 grand Jeep Wrangler, but brother let me tell you my Crosstrek cost half what those vehicles do, gets better gas mileage, and is a heck of a lot more reliable, and easier to maintain.
Like Jeep owners, this probably won't deter Crosstrek enthusiasts from purchasing. My experience with the Crosstrek is mostly positive. Don't think Subaru is interested in building the fastest car, just thr most practical and utilitarian. I love that about them. Power lift gate and seats are nice ro have but not necessary. However I do have a few gripes. I wish that you could release the trunk from inside the car. Interior paneling can get a little flimsy over time on Subarus though. Faster than on a Toyota. My 2022 Crosstrek is already having loose panels by where you rest your left foot on the drivers side. Sometimes the CVT can get a little womky and you have to ease into the acceleration. I think they stopped selling manual drive Crosstreks because the paddle shifters allow you to manually control shifting like modern race car tech. Overall, I love the Crosstrek. It has a great athletic look for a small crossover, functions well and a great price for all the features it comes with.
I rather this car over a rav 4. Subaru stealership actually have real customer services. SOA care about their customer to a certain extent. They're also keeping Americans fed because the plant is in Indiana. Toyota is dying and over price. own 3 subaru and they're still running. 114k wrx and still loving it.
Some of your observations are spot on but not necessarily viewed as negative to Crosstrek owners or shoppers. I just test drove a Premium model and in now the process of ordering one. This Crosstrek will be my 3rd Subaru and I can't wait to own it.
$25,000 looks to be a fantastic cost-effective car from one of the top companies in the world. I want you to name three cars better and cheaper than the Crosstrek and I guarantee you’ll be wrong but I will pay you $27 if you win.
In europe we have only 2.0 e-boxer mild hybrid because of restrictions and I personaly want to have choice other engines, more powerful than 136hp hybrid
I bought the cross trek over the RAV 4 Happy with my purchase. Would like a hybrid option. Performance is fine with the 2liter engine. My main gripe with this car. No interior trunk release. Come on Subaru!
I have literally no complaints with my Crosstrek Wilderness. It is the best balance of value, features, and capability in its segment while also being a comfortable daily driver with above average fuel efficiency.
HUH? IN Australia you can get a Crosstrek Hybrid, all models have wireless charging, blind spot detection, automatic braking frond back are standards too on all trims.
I have the Sport and I LOVE IT. I drove it to California and I filled up my tank that morning and then once more on the road. 1 Stop at a gas station in 10+ hour drive. I love how my car handles as well. It hugs the road especially when turning on city streets. This guy doesn’t have one and doesn’t understand the NORMAL driver.
What a load of bullshit, most of it irrelevant or hopelessly out of date, he does not know what he is talking about. I have an XV, the Australian version of the Crosstrek. 10yo and nothing done to it apart from new tyres and battery. I just ordered a new Crosstrek. Does everything and has everything I need.
Yeah, I got a crosstrek in 2020. I wanted a car that was good on gas and still had offroad and snow capabilities. It's a great car, comfy and good features. Although, I was disappointed with how it operated in the snow. I was in very light snow and the tires spun out and locked up. Didnt even have enough power to get out of it. Sure I couldve gotten better tires, but the engine is so weak, it wouldve been even slower than it already is. Also, yeah, the fuel economy wasnt that great, not nearly what they advertised. It barely had enough space for camping too. I think my wifes prius has about the same amount of room. I will say the adaptive cruise control is REALLY nice. made highway driving a dream, and saved me a few times from people stopping abruptly.
You are now 043 I like hybrids but not all cars are hybrids. That’s like blaming a bike for not being a motorcycle. That’s very stupid. You’re not doing good job.
The main complaint I hear about the 2024 Crosstrek is that it has excessive cabin/wind noise at highway speeds. Can anyone comment on this, as I want to purchase one ?
Everything you have said is true either completely or to a certain degree. However, there's also many places it excels in that weren't mentioned (possibly in another video, but I don't like the two-sides video series that people do because one video [most likely the negative video]will be the most watched leaving out the good points that can counteract the bad ones.) For instance, I think 10 seconds in the 0-60 for such a Crosstrek is actually really good compared to it's competitors. And also the Crosstrek has been their best selling model. Also (hot take), the CVT may actually be much better than other transmissions. As negativity revolves around CVTs, there's many that call these misconceptions and misinformation and there are tests there to prove so, you just have to take the time to look them up. And Subaru has the most reliable CVT compared to any other. Their TR580 CVT. Which is on my 2024 Crosstrek Sport.
I've had a 1981 statnion wagon with 4x4. aswell as a 2019 Crosstrek. I average, going up the mountains to visit my Amish Ffiends on Friday, 35.8 mpg. In town, its' more like 23.2 mpg. However, the car is pepp enoug and I can get into handicaps slotts where others need to drive away. Subaru is on the rihgh track with the exception pf ot having a DVD/CD player on their base models. Hybrids and EV's are nothing but money pits down the road. Stay away from tubo charging too.
I have a 2024 Crosstrek Onyx (Canadian) trim. I went on a 3800 kilometre (2360 miles). Smooth comfortable ride, pretty good acceleration on adaptive cruise. If you are looking for a car that takes off like a rabbit, this is not for you. It is reliable and great all around vehicle. There is a reason it is selling so well, they have to start assembling the vehicle in the U.S. for the U.S. market, as Japan cannot keep up. Fortunately Canadian vehicles, except wilderness, are still made in Japan. This model is the same as the U.S. sport but has many more standard features including sunroof, rear automatic braking, electric 10 driver seat, heated steering wheel. In fact, across all Subaru trims, Canadian models offer more standard items that are optional in the U.S. Of course base model doesn't have all the bells and whistles, that is why it is a base model.
Mostly incorrect. The CT's main drawbacks are low torque engines and terrible stereo sound quality. CVT is OK but paired with low torque engine it becomes annoying - the engine is the problem. The Info screen is also very laggy but does the job and looks nice. The vehicle is more capable offroad than its peers with a superior AWD system and more ground clearance too. Another big advantage is the very very comfortable suspension - dynamic and compliant making it ride like a luxury car (at least the 2024 updated model - note, and not he Wilderness edition). As a very tall guy it is one of few Japanese cars I am comfortable in. The stereo is easily fixed with $300 in upgraded high-sensitivity aftermarket speakers which are easy to swap in. Crosstrek remains a bargain imho.
The Crosstrek would be perfect for me when I drive mountain roads and go camping. But also do a lot of city driving, and the fuel economy isn't very good. I've been reading Crosstrak forums where owners report 20-22mpg in city driving, while Subaru's spec shows 27mpg. For that reason I'm looking into a Rav4 hybrid. But they are very expensive compared to the Crosstrek.
This video angers me. I’m on my 2nd Crosstrek, love ‘em! My trade value for my 2018, was outstanding. After 7 years of ownership, only lost about $10k in value. Never had any issues other than LOF and rotation and wipers. 😊
Reason number 9. The dealerships want to force you to pay for window tint, "government" fees, theft shield, door protection packages, and other shullbit things. Will never buy a Subaru with the current state of the dealership shenanigans.
Every member of my family has a Crosstrek - just sold the 2013 for a 24 model - ultrareliable practical vehicles - lowest maintenance costs of anything I've owned. "Ungainly looks" - compared to what ... ? Weird video.
None of this seemed negative 😂just sounds like a hater with personal problems trying to convince others their choice with your ✌️opinions ✌️…. I will be buying a cross trek 😂
All things noted, but nothing you mentioned was really a deal-breaker, and some of the things you mentioned were purely subjective ("less storage space than expected" - based on what?)
listening to this guy rabbiting on about everything Crosstrek, it seemed he is a Subie Hater. lots of them out there.. I drive a 2 year old Outdoor and love it.
lol newsflash the Subaru crosstrek isn’t a Porsche…thanks bud kinda knew this going in. And did I miss something…29mpg is…bad? You should try not comparing apples and oranges
Let me tell you off the bat I am almost certainly going to disagree with you and assume that you’re not a good person or legitimate but I’m gonna give you a shot
@@respirs My Sabaru was from the late 1980s and I don't even remember what model it was. The car was a sedan with all the digital displays on the front panel, like an airplane. Actually, Subaru was an airplane manufacturer, not a car manufacturer, at the time. If I remember correctly, in my car, the timing belt broke suddenly and the rear axle needed to be replaced. Anyway, I think my problems with the car might not help you if you want to buy a Subaru! In fact, they were only known for 4WD at that time!
This bullshit about the dog 2.0 liter boxer makes me crazy. It’s not a dam Vette. I drives it mainly in the City but hope the interstate from time to time. It’s just a good car. Poor fuel economy???? I get 30 on average. My Jeep Wrangler gets 15, now sucks. Love our 24. 😵💫
Agreed. I have a 2023 Crosstrek with the 2.0 liter and it's not noticebly different when it comes to getting up to speed with this Subaru 2.0 liter than it is compared to my 2 previous 2.0 liter motor Toyotas. My Crosstrek runs great. Solid car. Love it.
Ehhh … You don’t understand what are the driven reasons for most to buy a car… This cars are great doing almost everything… what have other under the same price provide any better than this … if you are able To pay and maintain do a Porsche go there … if you believe Mazda cx3, Toyota Cross or Honda HRV are better just say so … One or the other May do on paper something better than the Crosstrek but certainly can’t compete doing everything better than good …
🏆Do you think the Crosstrek's potential drawbacks outweigh its strengths for your needs?🤔

For instance, I think 10 seconds in the 0-60 for such a Crosstrek is actually really good compared to it's competitors.
This car is consistently at the top of the class lol
Getting ready to buy my 2nd Crosstrek. I Love them
I have a 2024 Crosstrek Onyx (Canadian) trim.
This add brought to you by VW the company hit hardest by Subaru sales.
Laugh laugh laugh…
I have owned four different Subaru models, all great no regrets.
Like this video. What sort of crossovers do you think is a comparably better buy?
I'm probably buying a Crosstrek premium but I'd probably wait until the RAV4 redesign and get the hybrid RAV4
Yea man i have a crosstrek and its the beat car Ive ever had.
I have 2 crosstreks
2016!and 2016
Cero problems and loving 1:18 both of them
2016 142,723 miles and strong
2019 31,000 miles and barely braking in lol
Question number 6, the Suburu Crosstrek hybrid has been released!
This is more like a road test review from a car magazine discussing it's pros and cons.
This video angers me. I’m on my 2nd Crosstrek, love ‘em! My trade value for my 2018, was outstanding. After 7 years of ownership, only lost about $10k in value. Never had any issues other than LOF and rotation and wipers. 😊
This seems like an actual ENDORSEMENT.
I just bought a brand new crosstrek an it is giving me 49 Mpg in the city!!!!! 🤷🏻♂️ you are so wrong.
I'm mostly on the highway so the mpg is good enough
Pfff clearly, you are not well informed of subaru brands. Love my crosstrek. Plus rav 4 is 10 thousand dollars more and 12 months waiting list.
listening to this guy rabbiting on about everything Crosstrek, it seemed he is a Subie Hater. lots of them out there.. I drive a 2 year old Outdoor and love it.
I own one, wish I didn’t need gas every time
No more stick did it to us. Looking for a used one.
Mans is reaching so hard to get those 10 reasons 😂
In not buying any car with cvt transmission…
This video sponsored by Ford 😂
I got 2022 Subaru crosstreck i love it!
A lot of generalized assertions. Critique by all means , but back it up with something more than vague assertions.
Dealer said: "Sir this car gets 10 miles per spoonful of gas". I replied: "Big spoon or tea spoon?"
You lost me when you compared the Crosstrek to the RAV4.
Definitely…if you compare the Crosstrek with any Toyota, it would be the Corolla Cross, not a RAV4
And even then the Crosstrek out performs it in overall value for anyone who has to ever deal with snow
This sounds like a one man’s opinion only. If you add or improve it any more you’d be paying an arm and leg. All cars are overpriced as it is.
I’ve never been inside one so I won’t talk about interior quality, but I will ask you do you hate dogs and the environment?
lol newsflash the Subaru crosstrek isn’t a Porsche…thanks bud kinda knew this going in. And did I miss something…29mpg is…bad? You should try not comparing apples and oranges
I thought Crosstrek was a running shoe?
Subaru should somehow get ahold of the technology from Toyota and just use their technology to put hybrid and the Crosstrek
Don’t forgot the absolute shite paint. It is thin and brittle. You’ve been alerted.
I love my crosstrek
None of these reasons concern me
Let me tell you off the bat I am almost certainly going to disagree with you and assume that you’re not a good person or legitimate but I’m gonna give you a shot
I didn't like 1 so I got 2 SCT's
Love my 2024.
People in comments saying fully loaded is so cringy.
The car does what it is designed to do.
you struggled to come up with these reasons and you know it
*blows out a vape cloud*
But those are all stock
I never cared for this car either but the fact you went out of you went out of your way to talk people out of it is very...odd
I think the pluses far outweigh them minuses.
After using a Subaru many years ago I never want to look at them again!
@josephili7164 what year and model did you have? What went wrong?
@@respirs My Sabaru was from the late 1980s and I don't even remember what model it was. The car was a sedan with all the digital displays on the front panel, like an airplane. Actually, Subaru was an airplane manufacturer, not a car manufacturer, at the time. If I remember correctly, in my car, the timing belt broke suddenly and the rear axle needed to be replaced.
Anyway, I think my problems with the car might not help you if you want to buy a Subaru!
In fact, they were only known for 4WD at that time!
Subaru is one of the top brands, not for speed , not for luxury but it does get you out of snow like no other suv for the price
Cars have changed a lot since 1980s. I remember in early 70s that Toyotas were junk or had lots of problems. Cars today are meant to last much longer.
Solid car. Love it.
Good analysis
Ehhh … You don’t understand what are the driven reasons for most to buy a car… This cars are great doing almost everything… what have other under the same price provide any better than this … if you are able
To pay and maintain do a Porsche go there … if you believe Mazda cx3, Toyota Cross or Honda HRV are better just say so … One or the other May do on paper something better than the Crosstrek but certainly can’t compete doing everything better than good …
