Maul knew the plans of Sidious, in the clone wars episode where Maul got new legs he says: so it has began without me Edit: I know season 7 has said otherwise, but please remember that i wrote this comment 2 years ago, when there was no season 7🙃
Yeah. He knew. And Sidious actually did train maul into a Sith lord. Kind of why he’s called “Darth”. And in phantom menace he says “at last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last we shall have our revenge.” Cause before the phantom menace, sidious taught him many things about the sith, even took him to malachore v (the place in rebels) and showed him the massacre that was dealt to the sith, and even had him literally breath in the ashes of the dead sith there. He took him there twice to be exact. Sidious just portrayed him and called him an assassin to his master Plagueis so he wouldn’t know he was training an apprentice.
I remember watching revenge of the sith with my dad when I was younger . He literally paused the movie , blocked Palpatines face to the effect of his hood . And I couldn't piece it together that he was sidious lol .

I knew they were the same, I've just always heard him being called 'Emperor Palpatine', but now (not now, now but in this time, i mean) I know that Sheev Palpatine's 'Sith Name' is Darth Sidious.

Ville Kuronen, I think Sidious was putting so much effort into projecting and absorbing Force lightning, that he simply dropped the mask. Once he started firing off the lightning there was no more need for a mask. Sidious did not have any visible signs of fresh injuries. There was only a dramatic change in his appearance, which included a massive trench in the top of his head.
Also the shock troopers that were with him in the room probably knew and I think commander fox knew as well there were rumours that Palpatine orderd fox to kill fives instead of stunning him which fox could have done since his pistol had a stunning option

@Michael Zoucha In some of the novels, it's obvious. That, and in TCW, he didn't care about fighting the Seps and hated the Jedi more. It's obvious that he knows, considering how he and Palpatine were close bros.
5:02 Maul does have a comment after being restored by Mother Talsin about the force being out of balance, Savage tells him the galaxy is at war, he responds by saying "ah, so it started... without me" I don't know how much of Sidious' plans that he knew of, but I'm going to assume it was more than we think he does
I knew it the moment he spoke to queen Amidala. His voice sounded the same as the emperor form Return of the Jedi. Fun fact : it's the same actor. In the 1983 Return of the Jedi, they've had to make him look old, in episode 1 or 2, where he meets Amidala, they've had to make him look young. I was so surprised to realise that Palpatine is/would be the scarfaced emperor !!!
I've always thought it would be a little bit awkward if Palpatine's secretary wasn't in on it. It would be impossible for the Supreme Chancellor to keep his official diary and his secret Sith diary straight otherwise. He'd be constantly double booking appointments. He also needs someone to make sure that he never has to meet with the Jedi while its raining. They'd only have to see him with his hood up once and it would all be over.
Maul was given to sideous when maul was a child ..his mother mistakenly thought Palpatine was a Jedi and knew maul was force sensitive so gave maul to palpatine for a better life ..it goes into detail in the Darth Plagueis book..which should be made into a film the scene where sideous rips 2 windpipes out would be so cool and a way to show how evil and deadly the Sith are also the ambush scene on plagueis and the munes with the vibro discs
Mad Amedda definitely knew by some point during the Clone Wars. There was that episode Palpatine muses to him how “one could have all the power in the galaxy, but the words of a single senator can sway the thoughts of millions”, and that they have to “adhere to the principles of democracy” for the time being. Palpatine would never say something like this to someone he hadn’t let in on his secret.
Dooku left the order before Qui-Gon died i thought... in the cannon book 'Master and Apprentice' it gets talked about a lot that Dooku has left, it's even mentioned that he's going by Count Dooku now, and Qui-Gon thinks about how he hasn't yet reached out to his older Master to talk about him leaving the Jedi
"I have been trained in your Jedi arts by Count Dooku." "Army or not, you must realize, you are doomed." "[Dooku's] death was a necessary loss. Soon I will have a new apprentice; one far younger and more powerful." Grievous respected Dooku, and killed many Jedi before Obi-Wan ended him. Although Grievous almost certainly had no idea that Sidious was Palpatine, I think it's very plausible that he knows Dooku is a Sith Lord and is Sidious's apprentice. After all, we also know that Gunray and other Separatist leaders were aware of the Sith master/apprentice dynamic and had struck a deal with Sidious. "This is getting out of hand. Now there are two of them!" "We should have never made this deal."
The Senate didn't know. Yes a large part did but there was also a large faction that wanted his power curbed and him to be forced to step down after the war if he didn't willingly. The rebel leadership was made up of senators that opposed him and it started near the end of the clone wars. They were willing to secretly side with the separatists remnants to oppose the new regime
The Sith Empires of old always seemed to recover, and even hold power for longer than savvy Sidious and co did. There were clearly flaws in both strategies, the fatal one was the rule of two which senselessly meant that the Jedi had to kill just two individuals to defeat the Sith entirely.
Wait what? This is a Generation tech not generation films? So we're now protagonist and not generation tech even in generation tech? What madness is this, take your pills Allen! For a moment there I thought I had been watching a wrong channel! :D
In Tartakovsky's Clone Wars at least, Grievous couldn't have possibly known that Palpatine was Sidious: he wouldn't have just stood there as Palpatine tried to put him down while ordered to bring in Palpatine alive and uninjured.
What about Tarkin? In the episode where he is captured he tells Anakin that he knows Palpatine pretty well and that he isn't worried for his career after the war.
Not 100% sure but I’d say that the Red Guards had some inside on who Palpatine really was. They were with him all the time and he made them to be completely loyal to him and him alone, but then again I could be wrong
I think it's possible that grievous knew because of the little laugh he made when the clone army arrived on utapau. Like he knew that they would turn against Obi-Wan very soon.
I always wonder if Palpatine had an actual plan if the Separatist Alliance won the Clone Wars. We know that the entire Clone Wars happened because of the birth of the clones and Droid army so they can weaken the Jedi, but did Palpatine, Douku and Grievous have any actual plans if they actually won with Mass Droid Production?
I kinda just assumed that palpating telegraphed a lot of republic strategies and plans to doily who would be able to stay a step ahead, but because the droid army wasn’t at the same quality as the clones, it wasn’t a complete separatist stomp lmao.
It wouldn't have made enough heat. The heat that would have been made would have been instantly cooled by the freezing air (specifically, at night, temperatures reached -60C)
Honestly, if you haven't read the books then this connection could only be made in the back of the mind. He seemed peaceful and displayed no anger. There was a weird look he got when Cmdr. Panaka suggested the other candidates...he sharply responded with great confidence: "I will be chancellor." - I had friends that suggested the evil Palpatine may even be a brother or a clone but not the Senator we met in the first film. So, unless you read the books. It really wasn't that apparent.
Wait so if Grievous was let in on the whole “Palpatine controls everything” plot, then that would explain why he tells Obi-Wan “Army or not, you must realize, you are doomed” during their fight on Utapau.
it was pretty obvious when i saw episode 1 for the first time, you could tell the features of palpatine were visibly present in his sidious hologram. The Senate was unaware. Of course, Darth Maul must have known. I wonder if count Dooku knew, though, during episode 1. Thats a question, there. Technically Darth Plagueis was alive during part of Episode 1, and he definitely knew.
He forgot the separatist council, when Anakin (now Vader) goes to kill the separatist council on mustifar nute gunray says “lord sidious promised us peace, he only wanted to *gets killed*. Implying that he, if not the separatist council , knew that chancellor Palpatine was infact darth sidious
Greivous had no idea. The book 'Labyrinth of Evil' by James Luceno takes place directly before Revenge of the Sith. Among other things, it follows Grievous's kidnapping of Palpatine. In chapters that directly follow Grievous, it's clear in his language that he has not put the two together. The Neimoidians had no idea as well, they curse Palpatine constantly throughout the book. There was someone in that book who figured it out, but was killed shortly afterwards. Great read, highly recommended.
One thing about the Sith - unlike the Jedi order, who removed choice from its acolytes by taking them as babies, the Sith preferred to recruit adults to be Sith Lords. Maul was always trained simply as an assassin - that is why he was trained from his childhood. This is one reason (of many) why Kanan Jarrus' methods were so much better than the Jedi of the previous generation.
Mas Amida obviously knew. He's standing right there when Yoda walks in, knocks out the guards and calls Palpatine, "Darth Sidious". Then palps does his Mr. Shocky routine and Mas Amida hardly blinks. Just leaves the room for a bit to avoid danger.
I don't think Grievous knew, even if he met Sidious, with the hood up and some dark side trickery he could easily have kept him from recognising him, I believe Mas Amedda, Sly Moore and obviously Dooku knew, and that's it.
Wait what about Sate Pestage? Did I miss you mention him? He knew who Palpatine was long before Maul, Dooku, and all those other advisers. He even knew who Plagueis was. And they trusted him with their secret well after
There were two others that knew that Sheev Palpatine was a sith lord, albeit it was too late. Yoda and Obi-wan found out at the end of RotS, we all know that though. Why didn't Obi-wan ever reveal it to anyone, such as Luke later in life, or Reeva? I'd love to see a story around Obi-wan coming to terms with his past and finally telling someone about it, maybe Reeva in season 2 of the Obi-wan series. She then knows who Darth Vader's master is and ultimately who caused the downfall of the Jedi Order. Maybe she tries to do something about it, and ultimately gets killed, and the secret of Palpatine's identity dies with her.
Me! Simplistic, merely because I recognised the same actor was playing both parts! My brother violently disagreed with me about this - until I was proved right! Happy/sad at the same time...
I have a theory that the reason the clones where not as skilled as jango was because his traits and dna was constantly being spread and altered until eventually they came to a point that they where way less skilled then the original every generation
I seem to recall reading or hearing something about Mas Amedda and Sly Moore being aware that Palpatine was a Sith Lord when he was still a senator, but I might be wrong about that
Darth Testes has a better ring to it! Adds a rather unsavory meaning to dark side! Don’t think I want to see his light saber though! It’s flesh colored.
I don't remember if you've already done such a video, but if not: What if Grievous had learned that Dooku and Sidious were the ones responsible for the crash that nearly killed him (and had lied to him about it to manipulate him)? Would he have simply chosen to not take sides and focus instead on getting revenge on Dooku and Sidious on his own? Or would he have decided to join the Republic with the goal of using its resources to get his revenge against Dooku and Sidious?
Silly question, how did the rebellion feel about the separatist? The separatists fought against Palpatine, the rebellion fought against Palpatine. Would some in the rebellion feel that maybe Dooku was a hero? Like, maybe one of the rebellion's flagships was named the Dooku, or a fighter squadron named after Grievous?
Seems Palpatine was always the busiest of all.. it'd be hard enough to keep 2 big armies at a relative stalemate for so long on 1 planet let alone a large and very diverse galaxy. Funny that neither side never seemed to ever catch on and look into that.
When Phantom Menace was released, Lucas allowed museums to display Star Wars movie props around the country. In Houston there was a life size statue of Darth Sideous in his robes. The small plaque at the base of the statue read. Emperor Palpatine. This was before he was revealed as such two movies later. I showed my younger brother. We were in the know... awesome display too! 🇺🇸😎
Plus how much did the Emperors Royal Guard know??? They are formed pretty early in the Prequels, as they are seen in AoTC in his office. They must have been privy to many of his conversations also.
Wasn't it immediately obvious though? Wasn't his hungry 'THIS IS IMPORTANT' stare at Anakin when he was talking about it in Ep 3 clue enough? Come on people, Lucas has the subtle delivery of a mallet. This wasn't difficult to work out.
Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.
How did a bunch of ULTRA NERDS who are skilled at noticing all the most subtle, tiny, and unbeknown to most details, but didn't catch this?? It's been obvious to me for YEARS

Outside of Maul, it seems that Dooku and Tarkin knew from the start.
9:18 sorry, apart of the senate? He is the senate.
"I have been trained in your Jedi arts by Count Dooku."
"Army or not, you must realize, you are doomed."
"[Dooku's] death was a necessary loss. Soon I will have a new apprentice; one far younger and more powerful."
Grievous respected Dooku, and killed many Jedi before Obi-Wan ended him.
Man, this would make such a GREAT animated full-length movie... Thank you for this information.
*deathsticks
In Tartakovsky's Clone Wars at least, Grievous couldn't have possibly known that Palpatine was Sidious: he wouldn't have just stood there as Palpatine tried to put him down while ordered to bring in Palpatine alive and uninjured.
What about Tarkin? In the episode where he is captured he tells Anakin that he knows Palpatine pretty well and that he isn't worried for his career after the war.
He definitely knew Dooku was a sith. It was knowledge of the entire Jedi Order and most of the GAR so Greivous would have found out one way or another
Can you make some kotor era history videos? I'd really like to know more about that era.
I think it was pretty common knowledge that dooku was a sith lord, so i’m pretty sure grievous would know too
Mas Amedda certainly knew he was a sigh, but I don't think he ever said it or it was ever acknowledged. Yet Palpatine trusted him implicitly
Answer: everybody who had already recognised actor Ian McDiarmid from seeing him in RSC stage productions
or just seeing him in Return of the Jedi
I believe some of the Kaminoins and Tarkin knew that Chancellor Palpatine was Darth Sidious.
Everybody knew, except Joe Biden.
Biden thought Palpatine was Corn Pop.
True
biden looked him in the eye and called him a lying dog faced pony soldier
Don’t bring politics into Star Wars you piece of shit
I kinda just assumed that palpating telegraphed a lot of republic strategies and plans to doily who would be able to stay a step ahead, but because the droid army wasn’t at the same quality as the clones, it wasn’t a complete separatist stomp lmao.
I have question, why Luke didn't use his light saber to generate heat(by slashing snow)?
It wouldn't have made enough heat. The heat that would have been made would have been instantly cooled by the freezing air (specifically, at night, temperatures reached -60C)
Depending on the crystal he may not have been able to. You're very well could have been a ice kyber Crystal.
The senate always knows who the senate is
Wait so if Grievous was let in on the whole “Palpatine controls everything” plot, then that would explain why he tells Obi-Wan “Army or not, you must realize, you are doomed” during their fight on Utapau.
I enjoyed this look behind the sith scenes. Loved it. The Sith Cult reminds me of the Tamrielic Imperial Cult.
it was pretty obvious when i saw episode 1 for the first time, you could tell the features of palpatine were visibly present in his sidious hologram.
My uncle said he was sidious before the clone wars even came out and he always thought so since he was a kid. He called it 🤣
Oh I know this....
The senate knew about it.
In the latest episodes of Clone Wars, Maul says he was not privy to his master’s plans, but he did know a little bit
Not to mention that if Palpatine was in bed with his force sensitive assistant, it is entirely possible that is how Rey was conceived.
nah the span of years dosen't add up rey would have to be alot older then luke and laia
@@Farquarl7 Not necessarily. grandchildren are still direct descendants. Palpatine could have conceived one of Rey's parents.
Wait Chancellor Palpatine is also Darth Sidious 😱
One thing about the Sith - unlike the Jedi order, who removed choice from its acolytes by taking them as babies, the Sith preferred to recruit adults to be Sith Lords. Maul was always trained simply as an assassin - that is why he was trained from his childhood. This is one reason (of many) why Kanan Jarrus' methods were so much better than the Jedi of the previous generation.
These guys knew for sure:
Maul
Dooku
Fives(the clone trooper)
Pong Krell
Mas Amedda
Slymor
Nute Gunray
Qui Gon too thats y maul killed him bec palpatine knew his a threat
And they trusted him with their secret well after
The answer is simple: everyone who’s watched the movies
I seem to recall reading or hearing something about Mas Amedda and Sly Moore being aware that Palpatine was a Sith Lord when he was still a senator, but I might be wrong about that
who knew allen was darth testicles
Darth Testes has a better ring to it! Adds a rather unsavory meaning to dark side! Don’t think I want to see his light saber though! It’s flesh colored.
I'm pretty sure Maul was planned to be Palpatine's original apprentice before his supposed death on Naboo and the discovery of Anakin Skywalker.
Grand moff Tarkin also knew because in the prison escape episode of the clone wars he comments about anakin being close to palpitine
“Anyone who wasn’t an idiot.”
Seems Palpatine was always the busiest of all.. it'd be hard enough to keep 2 big armies at a relative stalemate for so long on 1 planet let alone a large and very diverse galaxy. Funny that neither side never seemed to ever catch on and look into that.
In "Dark Disciple" it's said that Ventress has never seen Sidious' full face.
Related question: Who knew that Dooku was Tyranus?
glad to see you are feeling better.
I knew from episode I. I don’t know how anyone wouldn’t.
Mas ameda was ordered to get the secret shuttle ready for a secret trip to mandalore to defeat a resurgent maul, so it looks like he knew by then.
What about Sate Pestage? He was Palpatine advisor and knew of his identity long before most anyone
the image of dooku at 1:51 looks more like mads mikkelsen than christopher lee
How did a bunch of ULTRA NERDS who are skilled at noticing all the most subtle, tiny, and unbeknown to most details, but didn't catch this?? It's been obvious to me for YEARS
One of us, one of us, one of us.
