Dooku was more of a dark Jedi than Sith. He wasn’t ruled by a blood lust or consumed with power for power’s sake. Sidious used Dooku as the face of the enemy for the Jedi and Republic. I personally could see Dooku leading a more center lined Sith Order, like how the Sith operated around the time of Revan.
If nothing else I would consider him a Black Guard, which is essentially a Grey Sith, but Grey Jedi is already there and Black Guard sounds way more badass. If nothing else Count Dooku wanted what's best for the Galaxy as opposed to ruling it the way that Sidious wanted it. While a Grey Jedi such as Qui-Gon Jinn, would follow the will of the force, a Black Guard is just a way of life and using the Light side of the force and the power of the dark side would even have one rival a Jedi Grand Master like Yoda
I enjoy playing SWTOR as a light-side Sith, which ends up being closer in practice to a Grey-Jedi. Best thing about it is that nobody knows what you're thinking, because you don't fit the stereotype.

This is very refreshing. A video on Grievous' sympathetic backstory and the Republics treatment of his homeworld would also be great. Glory to the Confederacy of Independent Systems!
I know this a video about a fictional character and galaxy, but it's also surprisingly true in comparison to the real world. It may sound arrogant, but as a gifted person, I can see, how our world is also build to be comfortable for the people that want to follow. E.g. at work I did a lot of things outside of my area of responsibilities, that saved as a lot of technical and legal problems, better the user experience of our product. And in the end I got reprimanded for it, instead of praised for working in the company's best interest.
You sound arrogant as fuck. Your first mistake is thinking you're "gifted" and above everyone else, the second was doing something in a corporation's "best interests".
Oh, look at that. Comments proving the fucking point. Welcome to the shit show, dude. Nothing makes real sense because reality is what an individual sees. And most see little beyond the surface.
Know the feeling. Work for a bureaucratic govt organization that prides itself on rulea and regs. Workers just follow orders and get their paycheck. Meanwhile anyone who thinks outside the box or takes the initiative is punished.
That's why, at work, you should just do enough to get by and let the big bosses get their comeuppances; not go the extra mile for douchebags who don't give 1 shit about you!
Yup, he was just tired of the Jedi being puppets of a corrupt senate. and if you think about it, their code is fucked up. Removing emotions from someone seriously man... I completely agree with Mr. Dooku.
When I was a kid I always liked Dooku and Grievous more than Vader and Maul. While evry other child always chose Maul over him. AND after all this years I'm still thinking that Dooku is better character
Beautiful vid. I want a whole movie on Dooku. And it makes me think that Palpy desired an army of clones and droids, whereas the Jedi Order desired an army of machines (emotionless dulled warriors).
Hot take, the Count, and Grievous, are my favorite villains. I really enjoy how Grievous is portrayed in the original 2003 hand drawn clone wars, all menicing and terrifying, and also that duel between him and Obi Wan in episode 3. I just think they’re more complex then most of the other franchises main villains. Of course there’s those not so mainstream fan fav villain like durge but I digress, they are interesting, and more complex then a lot. Old palpi tho is in interesting guy too but I just don’t like him much ya know?
I agree, Dooku and Grievous are my favorite characters from star wars because they are misunderstood villains, also their fighting styles are amazing and their origin stories are very tragic actually.
The CIS was less of an empire but more like a confederacy, a loose association of sates. It was similar to the former Articles of Confederation before the US constitution was ratified and much like today's European Union.
Robert England The word separatist means one who separates from a group or government. The CIS are called separatists because they seek to separate themselves from the Republic. And it’s quite an empire. They may have a council of systems, but the ones that’s really calling the shots are the corporations that fund the military and Count Dooku. And people think they’re the good guys? What about the Blue Shadow virus on Naboo? Or the defoliator being tested on space lemurs? Creating biological weapons that target clones? The CIS defense system on Iego that trapped everyone in the planet? Their connections with the Zyggerian slave trade? The plundering and destruction of Ryloth?
@@alexanderchristopher6237 you don't call a collective of independent systems an empire, that's coalition or an alliance at best and those can be just as bad as an empire. The CIS would likely be more of a corporate coalition assuming they would want to go fully independent after the war, I doubt any of the council members would want to liquidise their collective factions assets into one greater faction being what they are as that could lose them their personal sovereignty.
The more I learned about Count Dooku, the more I came to like and respect him. IMO he is one of the most interesting and nuanced characters in all of Star Wars, especially among force users who tend to be very strongly aligned to the franchise's ideas of good and evil. Dooku manages about as close as a force-sensitive can get to straddling a grey moral line because while he believed that the ends justified the means, his end goals were noble. When the jedi order showed itself incapable taking the necessary action to protect the Republic from its own internal rot, he felt forced to resort to more dangerous means to achieve his noble goals. His fall from grace shines a harsh spotlight on the jedi order's shortcomings in the waning days of the Republic, and because of his experiences he really believed he was in the right up to the very end, even as his decisions became more influenced by the dark side. Villains who genuinely believe in their cause and are arguably justified in some of their acts are always the best villains-and a type of villain that is so rare in Star Wars' black-and-white portrayal of morality. In many ways, the events of Episode III ultimately proved him correct, too. He's probably my favorite character in all the movies, and Sir Christopher Lee's performance in the role was, as always, spectacular as well.
This is exactly why count dooku is my favorite character, he understands that what the jedi are doing is just moving the galaxy in a bad direction but he decides instead of standing by he will make a difference even if it’s a very bold move for him to do and I feel that his pull towards the dark side was simply to try and make the world right for everyone even if he had to sacrifice things he once loved
Count dooku aways was my favorite caracter! He was one of the best jedi and sacrificed everything to them, but just like anakin found out later, the jedi are ungrateful and iguinorant, so he did what he had to do to keep the galaxy safe!
This is another fantastic video from you guys. Dooku is another underrated character in the Star Wars universe and explaining the parallels with real life is enlightening. Keep up the great work!
I've been saying it for years, Dooku was right. A lot of the Jedi that turned to the dark side all said the Jedi have become a pawn. It took the fall of the Jedi for Yoda to recognize this.
Deigratia Daniels Yes, but Yoda didn’t fall to the dark side, even after recognizing the Jedi order was flawed. Siths and dark jedis are just weaklings that try to find as justification for their egotic issues.
@@pw6002 It has been speculated and eluded to in canon that even Yoda has touched the dark side of the force. IMO, Yoda was probably more Bendu like as opposed to being a full Jedi hence his inability to sense subtle differences in the light vs dark.
I heard your question about whether or not death by incompetence is worse than death by malicious intent. It made me think of a conversation in a book I read. I'm going to paraphrase, because I don't have a perfect memory. Two characters were discussing another character, and couldn't decide if this character was evil, or just stupid. The younger of the two, said he couldn't decide which was scarier. The older man said "stupid. Every time. There are only so many evil people in the world, and the only get uppity every once in a while. " I think that about sums it up.
Gotta love how you briefly flashed an image of Saruman on the screen while discussing Dooku's disconnect with the Jedi. Funnily enough Saruman had a similar perspective concerning his duties and his fellow wizards; feeling restricted in what he could do while wanting to bring about certain change to the world he was tasked with protecting. Saruman was jealous and bitter of Gandalf, thought Radagast was a total buffoon for his obsession with nature and the Blue Wizards, though I'm not sure he ever mentioned them in the literature I'm sure he thought them beneath him. He sought the One Ring thinking he could wield it for the greater good but in the end his obsession for such power corrupted him to the point of no return. Dooku's embrace of the Dark Side was also with the mind for the greater good, and that too in many ways corrupted him to commit certain atrocities. And as Saruman thought lowly of his fellow Istari, Dooku thought the same of the Jedi! I find it funny and curious how both these characters though not existing in the same franchises were played by the one and the same Christopher Lee, accidental as their similarities may be!
I like the moment where Dooku tell obi-wan that Palpetine is a Sith and obi-wan thinks he lies. Only a good Idea for the 3Film, the moment Obi-Wan knows that Palpetine is a Sith, there will be flashback to the scene with Dooku
Count duku was a respected ww2 veteran of noble origin .that hunted Nazi war criminals post ww2 as a secret agent . A letral super hero . Yes It's true .
Actually, many masters took apprentices while on the council. Mace Windu had Deppa Bilaba, Kit Fisto had Nahdar Vebb, Shaak Ti had Fe Sun and Maris Brood, Ki Adi Mundi had Tarr Seirr, Even Piell had Jax Pavan etc. It wasn't rare even in the decadent era of Yoda for masters of the high council to train padawans.
What always confused me as a child, watching the prequels, was how willing and how many times Dooku offered them surrender. Everything he did always seemed to be alined with saving lives. I be the use of clones by the Republic really pushed him further to the Dark Side... and Older now, I can’t say that I blame him.
That's the thing. He managed to use the dark side, without really getting corrupted by it, unlike Sidious and Anakin. He seemed to use the dark side aspect of the Force only when absolutely necessary and for a purpose, a goal. The Sith on the other hand only seek power for the sake of more power. His biggest mistake was aligning himself with the Sith, followed by inevitable betrayal.

I would have liked to see Dooku captured by aniken and obi wan and imprisoned . Instead of being killed off in the beginning of the movie . This gives Dooku the chance to turn back to the light for a brief moment . Sacrificing himself for the remaining younglings . A much fitting death for a noble men like Dooku .
Or imagine Dooku training Luke and later Leia who also follow's Qui Gon's teachings. Imagine this a remastered of Return of Jedi with Sebastian Shaw as redeemed Anakin as well as force ghosts of Qui Gon and Dooku.
Dooku began-like Saruman-with noble intentions, driven to extreme methods out of frustration with the corruption and complacency in their worlds. However, again like Saruman over time it corrupted him. He went from his intentions to necessitate dark deeds to justifying his own darkness through those ideals. In classic ends justify the means fashion Dooku became Tyranus and lost his original nobility. Like Saruman he was used by his master and as he grew more in the dark side and power he never realized Sidious never intended him to be part of the final outcome.

8:28 The last straw for Dooku was when his home world was being destroyed by pirates, the people of Serenno begged the Jedi for help, however the Jedi refused because the Count of Serenno (Dooku’s brother) wasn’t paying taxes to the Republic. Dooku in the films, comics both legend and cannon as well as the novels he was a villain that was more relatable than all the rest. The only exception being maul and darth bane for me ( although bane hasn't been shown in any of the Star Wars films). Dooku could see how corruption infested the republic and the Jedi order were simply the puppets of this corrupt system, this along with a few other things caused him to walk away from it. He was never a die hard believer in the dark side like maul, neither did he enjoy killing people left and right. If he had to kill or seriously injure someone he didn't cackle or grin afterwords, he either moved on or showed a hint of remorse. After defeating anakin and obi-wan on geonosis he didn't move in for the kill like maul would have. He did what was best for the situation he was in and took little to no pleasure in it, the darkside was just another weapon for him to weild.
It was always my contention that Master Dooku was something of a double agent. He ultimately wanted to takedown Sidious and simply left the Jedi Order to get close enough to do so. He never said to Obi Wan to join the dark side but to join him. He had to do some dark things to earn the Sith Lords trust but like the old saying goes: "keep your friends close...and your enemies closer.
I'd actually say that Dooku's idea for an empire is more sustainable than Sidious' idea. Palpatine's Empire just has mostly recruited citizens from a single race try to maintain peace and security for most of the galaxy, with little Jedi/Sith support, since all he had are a bunch of Dark Jedi and ONE Sith Lord to help the Stormtroopers and the Imperial Army and Navy maintain order. Dooku wanted to combine the CIS droid army with the Clone Army and have them be the Empire's armed forces, along with turning the entire Jedi Order to the Empire's side and having them be the "Fist of the Empire". Logistically, maintaining a galaxy-wide Empire using an elite core of Jedi and Clone Troopers and a massive army of battle droids that number in the quintillions is more solid instead of just having tens of trillions of citizen soldiers and the odd Dark Jedi or Sith showing up once in a blue moon. The Rebel Alliance surely wouldn't stand a chance against Dooku's version of the Empire, where Sith and Dark Jedi number in the thousands, clones serve under them as an elite force, and under those two lay an army of quintillions of battle droids. Plus, with a massive droid force, you can use droid labor to construct anything from monuments and palaces to battle stations with less time and resources since droids don't get tired or need food and rest. Meaning that you get extra PR points for not needing slavery.
🌟 *Sypho Dyas predicted that the Yujan Vaw are coming, so he ordered the creation of the clone army.* The solar flare was just an attack from the Yujans.
Just because Dooku had such a compelling origin story, good intentions, and received a gruesome death doesn’t change the fact that he (especially throughout the majority of the Clone Wars) committed enough atrocities that inturn mad him just as bad and antagonistic as his fellow Sith Lords within the franchise.
Count Dooku would be a perfect sith lord to rule over the Empire after Palpatines order 66. He's calm, diplomatic, smart, and can control his anger. He wouldn't make mistakes that Darth and Palpatine made, if you ask me.
Basically in a nutshell? Count Dooku was NOT actually a Sith... Look at his eyes. He didn't let the dark side mutilate his body and turn his eyes an unnatural color for a Human. He wanted to try fixing things. 1. Yes, the Jedi should have been more involved and should have had more temples where they not only housed Jedi, but trained them. Likewise each Grand Master on the council should have been in charge. 2. Separating children from their families was bad, they have no anchor to their existence without a good family to motivate them to make the right choices. Ultimately the Jedi were not grounded, they were needlessly free flowing with no anchor. Why were there NOT more grey or "dark" Jedi like Dooku?! Did he ever force choke? "Force lightning!" Yeah, there's a non-lethal variation accepted by the order, they just didn't teach it... But Dooku probably learned it. Once again: HOW WAS HE A SITH?! He left the Jedi Order as he saw it as wrong, he also knew the Sith Lord was in charge of the Republic, or at least one of the chief figures BEFORE being in charge. Dooku was intelligent, he was in fact right and he wasn't truly a Sith. And Lee did a good job of portraying that. Remember his execution in Revenge if The Sith? Remember the look on his face? Jedi weren't supposed to take orders from political figures, nor were they supposed to execute unarmed and surrendered opponents... Yet what happens? He saw that he was right and that Palps was the chief Sith Lord... Why didn't he just kill Palps? He wasn't sure... "But he was his apprentice!" He may have never been given Studious' name or seen his face, in Attack of The Clones you don't see his face and he's distorting his voice... You don't think he'd have done the same the whole time he worked with Dooku to prevent him from figuring out his identity? Ding ding... It makes sense, right? Palps was a master manipulator... That's his thing. It makes sense, trust me.
Legos are legos for adults. Most of my sets are star wars sets. Great video. When I was young I wanted to be a jedi. The older I get, the more I sympathize with the sith.
I always got the vibe that Dooku was more balanced in the force rather than an extreme sith/Jedi and ultimately he should’ve just teamed up with windu who is similar and they should have just made a balanced order
Dooku was right about all of it. To include the need to gain the emperor's trust so he could team up with another Jedi to overtake him! Which is what he offered Obi Wan and exactly what Vader ended up doing. That's the reason he wanted to complete his sons training rather than destroy him.
Wasn't Old Ben , the best example of the ideal BBY jedi? While obvious he had some problems or flaws he did have love and still did live close to the order, he did get in war but not fall to a warmonger. Sure he neglects the problems inherent in Anakin's situation and never settles his deep seeded emotional problems. I think he's close to what they wanted a jedi to be like.
Dooku was like an Anakin/Vader from a different decade I always admired him too he’s a deep character for a sith we would’ve been successful if he conquered palpatine
Dooku viewed the dark side as a means to an end. He started off well intended but the dark side and Sidious corrupted him. Dooku unknowingly became more and more sadistic over time. His plan was to use the dark side to destroy the jedi, put an end to the Republic, and create a new and stronger political system that could maintain order. So long story short, he started off well intended but Palpatine's manipulation and the dark side turned him more evil over time.
I agree, he was VERY good at dueling. An I thought Allen that most of what we see in Star Wars was written by R2D2.... Though how he has accurate information about events that happened well away from where he happened to be at the time is beyond me.. maybe he read after action reports or he conducted interviews, investigations an such

Count Dooku was the (only) (true) Sith because he broke his chains but never replaced them. All addicts put themselves in chains by their addictions. Count Dooku had no powerlust.
Mike C dats deep you’ll realize palpatine truely was in control of himself too though, maul and Vader consumed by hate and vengeance were sith apprentices, or in truth just puppets and assassins ventress too and savage opress, just puppets and assassins not true Sith Lords, Vader was something else, while dooku was in full control of himself and was fully aware of the risks he took apprenticing himself to sidious and felt it was worth it, sadly palpatine had the better control in the end what with his secret puppet dooku didn’t know about being anakin
This is very refreshing. A video on Grievous' sympathetic backstory and the Republics treatment of his homeworld would also be great.
Glory to the Confederacy of Independent Systems!
Glory!!!

Being gifted doesn’t make you immune against over-confidence.

Honestly same. I liked Nemoidians the best from the Phantom Menace. Dooku best in AOTC and Grievous best in ROTS.
3:08 D&D alignments. Chaos does not equal evil, you can be chaotic and good.

He brought peace, freedom, and justice to his new (Separatist) empire.
The CIS was less of an empire but more like a confederacy, a loose association of sates. It was similar to the former Articles of Confederation before the US constitution was ratified and much like today's European Union.
Separatist Empire? now there's an oxymoron if ever I've heard one.
He was in WW2
& he knew what sounds a man makes when stabbed. Most here already know that.
I concur with every word of this, most agreed comment so far
Count dooku aways was my favorite caracter! He was one of the best jedi and sacrificed everything to them, but just like anakin found out later, the jedi are ungrateful and iguinorant, so he did what he had to do to keep the galaxy safe!
Dooku was a great character and had the best most elegant duelling style. Christopher Lee was awesome as usual RIP
One of the few issues I had with clone wars, it gave the villains no depth (aside from maul maybe). Dooku especially was just evil for evil‘s sake
Deigratia Daniels
Yes, but Yoda didn’t fall to the dark side, even after recognizing the Jedi order was flawed.
@FFM _ So not true!!!
Thankyou for the wholesome message at the end
You know I've waited for this he wanted to destroy the Sith and Jedi bring balance you know....😋😎
I like the moment where Dooku tell obi-wan that Palpetine is a Sith and obi-wan thinks he lies. Only a good Idea for the 3Film, the moment Obi-Wan knows that Palpetine is a Sith, there will be flashback to the scene with Dooku

I mostly agree, but Dooku also committed many crimes during the war which meant he was still guilty of much evil, despite his good motives.
He is sadistic as hell, a miracle he never got Yellow eyes considering he orchestrated more needless murder than Anakin

Imagine this a remastered of Return of Jedi with Sebastian Shaw as redeemed Anakin as well as force ghosts of Qui Gon and Dooku.

Count Dooku would have been a much better leader and emperor than sidious. Maybe that's why sidious had him killed get rid of the competition.
He saw Gandalf broke his staff!

Dooku took it into his own hands, disobeying the council and saving his homeworld. Dooku discovered his brother was the leader of the pirates and Dooku killed him.
Thank you for the video again :)
This came to me thinking about Star Wars, and I was like "I feel like count dooku was actually not in the wrong"and found this
I'd actually say that Dooku's idea for an empire is more sustainable than Sidious' idea.
Thrawn saw that in face of the unspeakable evil in the universe, that the empire could still be a force for good.
An excellent view of Dooku. He felt the Jedi and Republic had lost their way and purpose.

I love the idea that Dooku joined the Sith not to be one, but to control the dark side and do good.
The actor who portrayed Count Dooku was the same actor who portrayed Saruman in The Lord of the Rings trillogy
I don't know why but I've been watching a whole sh*t ton of Count Dooku videos
Dooku was right about all of it. To include the need to gain the emperor's trust so he could team up with another Jedi to overtake him! Which is what he offered Obi Wan and exactly what Vader ended up doing. That's the reason he wanted to complete his sons training rather than destroy him.
5:44 is it possible to learn this power?
Wasn't Old Ben , the best example of the ideal BBY jedi? While obvious he had some problems or flaws he did have love and still did live close to the order, he did get in war but not fall to a warmonger. Sure he neglects the problems inherent in Anakin's situation and never settles his deep seeded emotional problems. I think he's close to what they wanted a jedi to be like.
Dooku was like an Anakin/Vader from a different decade
I always admired him too he’s a deep character for a sith we would’ve been successful if he conquered palpatine
Honestly if you ever listen to what dooku was ever saying he was basically warning the galaxy that everyone was on the wrong side
Like how they showed Saruman
