2000+ miles into my new limited Santa Cruz and I have to say, THIS THING IS AWESOME! I spent about 20 hours in research before purchasing mine in Somersworth, NH and its still more car/truck/SUV than I had expected. It’s a very luxurious sports car with tons of power... has the interior space and convenience of an SUV... as well as a super functional truck bed for most of your home, yard, work and play/hobbie/activity needs and tasks. Hyundai nailed it on this one. Everywhere I go this thing is snapping heads around. Great overall value. I highly recommend checking this thing out if your even moderately interested or even curious... you won’t be disappointed.

I built a maverick with everything I wanted and it was about $37k. For the warranty and Ford’s lack lustre quality as of late makes the $42k price for this seem like a no-brainer. Plus this looks better inside and out IMO.

Same here, I built out a maverick lariat with everything I could think of and found the SC limited. 3k difference, I went with my gut feeling, way better fit and finish, great warranty plus the dealer gives a free lifetime engine and transmission warranty, comparing the two the engine bay on the SC is much more robust, the suspension as well the control arms look like stamped metal, where the SC is forged. Just a better built vehicle, lots more tech and safety features as well. Plus I had to drive out of state to get one at MSRP. Check out my first ever video.. please like and subscribe, I will post a one month and 6 month review, and use my new gopro once I figure out how to use it😄

Very late response here; better late than never? I have owned the 2022 Mav First Edition Rapid Red, fully loaded and have sold it off. I really did like the vehicle! I still own a 2022 Mav Hybrid Lariat, w 2k tow package - it is amazing. However, I have owned and will remain an owner of the 2022 SC Ltd since 02.02.22 - it is a GREAT VEHICLE!! I am so glad I purchased the Ltd - for these excellent option features: + Bose premium sound system + Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the Santa Cruz and the car in front)
+ 360-degree camera system (gives you a top-down view of the Santa Cruz and its surroundings for tight parking situations)
+ Lane keeping system (makes minor steering corrections to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane) - While the Maverick has similar options, their Adaptive Cruise Control is not functionally as good (had to have repaired already), Ford does not have as nice a 360 "top down" view surround camera view. Then the B&O sound system to me is as good as the Bose - both are satisfactory. The SC Warranties: Warranty
      Warranty
      SC Basic
      Basic
      5 yr./ 60,000 mi.
      Mav Basic
      3 yr./ 36,000 mi.
      SC Drivetrain
      10 yr./ 100,000 mi.
      Mav Drivetrain
      5 yr./ 60,000 mi.
      SC Roadside Assistance
      5 yr./ unlimited mi.
      Mav Roadside Assistance
      5 yr./ 60,000 mi.
I am 67 y/o and do not want to purchase another vehicle; I drive about 6-7k miles / year so due to the warranty value - the overall ROI comparing the SC to the Mav Hybrid - IMO is better with the Hyundai Santa Cruz!!

I own this in the limited trim also. I really like it. It has plenty of power and is fun to drive. The climate control system is really automated and you can tell it to automatically turn on seat heaters or coolers depending on the weather or auto defog the windshield etc. The main zonk I give it is not having memory seat and memory mirror settings for the driver seat. Perhaps they ran out of chips for this feature on this first year of sales.

If you compare the features between the Maverick and the Santa Cruz, there's shouldn't be a question about the price..🤷🏾‍♂️ Hyundai got an advantage with their technology. The reason the Maverick starts at $20k, because it don't offer cruise control and power mirrors..That's how they are able to put a hybrid engine in the Maverick. Their trim packaging is pretty much like any fleet Ford trucks..Hence why it looks like a mini Ford F-150. Hyundai packaged the Santa Cruz like a SUV...Its really not trying to be a truck at all..I also found it interesting that the Ford Escape and Ford Bronco Sport, which the Maverick is supposed to be based on. Cost about $2k more than the Hyundai Tuscon. However, the Tuscon is bigger and has more standard features than the Escape and Bronco Sport. So overall, the Santa Cruz SE base trim is priced just as the same as a base Tuscon. If Hyundai eliminate wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay, cruise control, power mirrors, and a dampened tailgate...Then it will be priced low as the Maverick.

We got our Santa Cruz in August 21. We have already put over 9K . It took 4 months to get my tow package we saved a lot of money not getting it through Hyundai and got the same hi quality hitch from From You haul . All together 800 install .I get 33mpg hwy. Be careful the Dealers are Jacking up the prices as much as 4k or giving you nothing for your trade. We got ours West Broad Hyundai and they were Honest did not go over MSRP . I actually own a new SEL Premium with the turbo and 8 speed dct and the transmission is a bit strange. It states automated manual on the sticker which makes sense because it seems like a manual in some respects. None of the good other than the quick and easy shifting manually in manual mode or if you use the paddles... but it does (say on a hill or similar) float back or forward prior to the engine reving a little bit and moving in the direction intended. The car performs far better in sport mode as it uses more rear end power than front and eliminates much of the torque steer. But the transmission does seem a bit cumbersome when taking off from a stop on full throttle outside of sport mode.
Love the car. Reminded me of the old Subaru bajas or the ausie utes I used to see when overseas. Comfortable and handy. I like it.

I have a licensed General Contracting business. We mostly build homes and substantially redevelop existing properties. I find this vehicle more useful than most. While I have subcontractors and suppliers who deliver larger items onsite, I often have to take packages of small items (Home Depot, Amazon and Lowes type supplies) onsite and once in a while I have to return something bulky (like a broken bathroom vanity). The bed allows me to keep the dirty boxes, and avoid scratching up the inside of a nice SUV and it comes with a water proof top integrated into the vehicle. Most people do not need a big pickup truck, including many people like myself. If I wanted to replicate the options in a say F150, it would cost ~$65K and I’d have to spend extra for some kind of water tight cover - and it would be too much truck and too full inefficient 95% of the time. The bed cover that Hyundai provides is tight enough to put groceries and suitcases in the bed. I wish they would offer this with the Hybrid powertrain though.

I've always hated pick up trucks like the F150, Silverado, Colorado, Tacoma, Ram and Frontier because they are getting so obnoxiously big. This is small but still got the capabilities ofba truck like towing and a bed. Plus gets great gas mileage, best warranty, rides comfortable like a car and looks unique. I prefer this to the Ford Marverick which is basically a regular pick up truck shortened. I like the base or mid trim though instead of the fully loaded because of the volume button. Lol

Great video Joe and as usual, magnificent work Lori. I am not sure how you keep the camera steady when Joe hits us with the jokes haha. The mood lighting comment had me rolling. I can see you look at Joe and think- "Did he just say that." But this car is awesome, and my neighbor has been interested in this car. So, what do I do - send him the link to your review. Overall, I like the vehicle especially if I am not heavy off road but like going to the Home Depots to get some small bags of mulch, rocks, etc, then occassioanlly fish. Now the no buttons for me are hit and miss. Plus, I already keep a cloth in my current car anyway. But excellent review and loved they blacked out the Hyundai logo and not do like Ford make it blue haha.

Question, Joe or any owners.. I watched this review and MANY others. I believe that, when you purchase the vehicle with the tonneau cover, the rail caps have slots where you can place bolts along the rail for mounting racks, like cross bars, elevator racks etc…. I have watched tons of reviews and nobody mentions it. Is this an actual feature or am I just imagining it?

What I don't like about it is not having any knobs on the infotainment system and the MPG could be better/closer to the new Maverick and the back seat is pretty tight. Hey Joe and Lori (and everyone else who read this comment), how are y'all.
One question Joe, didn't you already made a video about the Hyundai Santa Cruz Limited not that long ago?
Anyway, it's a stylish, sleek, SUV like Compact Pickup truck (pretty much based on the Hyundai Tucson with a bed truck and nicer body). But when Ford noticed that Hyundai was going to make a compact truck, they got jealous and made the maverick.
Anyway I think that the Santa Cruz looks a bit better then the Ford Maverick. But if you had to choose which one would you choose the Maverick or the Santa Cruz. Or move a category up midsize trucks like the Tacoma, the Honda Ridgeline, Jeep Gladiator (the coolest midsize truck), the Ford Range.
Also this doesn't have to do with the Santa Cruz, but Ford has become competitive with the Raptor R, the Bronco, Maverick and the Explorer Timberlake.
Edit: Also this truck looks gourges with the white color.

You have wrong information at 8:52 - towing with the 2.5 turbo is 5,000lbs. 3,500 is with the base 2.5L engine. Zonk!! :P
Got my Ultimate (Canadian Limited) last September. Got 41,000km (25,500 miles) on it now. Problem-free. STILL makes me smile every time I get behind the wheel. STILL turns heads. STILL makes me stop and stare at it every time I walk by it in the driveway, in parking lots, on my desktop wallpaper. LOL And every other Santa Cruz owner I've met has been very friendly and raves about their ride too.
I know a Maverick owner too, and he's very happy with it. So no knocks against it. I'm glad there is at least one competitor out there right now - hopefully more will follow. For me, it just looks very bland and generic. And some people find the Santa Cruz too wild and crazy with its styling. Means both types have a choice. I do wish Hyundai had a wider colour pallette though. Ford's got 'em beat in that respect. I was SO hoping for a screaming bright colour of some sort on the Santa Cruz, but I do love my Yoda Green - sorry, Sage Grey. :P

The only things I would like to see is; remote start(?), power passenger seat, heart seats in the back, power steering wheel adjustment, and power sun roof. I am waiting for this vehicle to come out with plug in hybrid, as I live in a northern state, where full electric does not currently make sense. The plug in hybrid should give me 30-40 miles of range. A friend has the Jeep Wrangler 4E and is working great for him. Has anyone heard when the plug in hybrid is coming?

We can haul two bikes in the truck with the tailgate down and do some basic home hauling if we ever needed to. And it has enough power for us and 10k less.
