The one player I wish stayed in college. He honestly had no reason to leave, other than proving himself... He was financially secured, still had areas to improve on, could have been one of the best prospects going into the draft if he stayed even 1 or 2 more years.
I'm sorry but this post is so true, if he had stayed he could have gotten a championship, plus his dad was already a millionaire so he didn't need the money. He also needed help on his jumper.
+Alexander V -He got sucked into the mainstream hype, i remember hearin bout this guy back in 2011 ppl saying he gonna be the next D-Wade or something like that, lol
Shows the gap between HS and the NBA. You could look like LeBron/Kobe in HS and be a mere role-player in the pros like Austin Rivers. Incredibly difficult to make it in the NBA. More billionaires in the world than nba players, the difficulty is real
cp3 not really most players who are a top 2 player in high school arguably #1 in there class i would say 9.9/10 do preety good in the nba way better than rivers it’s he just literally lost his mamba mentality
Hard to have it again when you realize you weren't that good to begin with. On top of that the guy never expanded his game. He has the same moveset now as his hs days. He still doesn't have a left hand, and hasn't gained an ounce of muscle. I'm not suprised.
Timothee25 The guy only got into the NBA BECAUSE of his dad. If his last name wasn't River's and he wasn't the son of Doc Rivers, he would be some Duke graduate who had played basketball for that school and done nothing with himself. The guy doesn't expand his game, he doesn't do anything but lounge off of his dad's success. Not only that but he's also getting lucky with his dad because he's on his dad's team now, he gets paid with his dad's boss' money. His dad just goes, just sing it son, you'll be fine you get lots of money buddy.
+hcrtoothy stop being a hater dude. did his dad do all the countless hardworking hours in the gym for him ? no Austin is there because he deserves to be in the nba otherwise he wouldnt be in the nba.
He was hyped because of it. If you compare him to the rest of his class, what makes you think he deserved to be picked so highly? Having your dad's last name who's a renown NBA player and coach who has won championships only gave Rivers more of the spotlight. Not only that but his dad probably convinced Duke to take him in. Even in Duke he wasn't doing all that great. Averaged 15 points which I do admit is pretty good, Averaged MORE TURNOVERS than assists, HORRENDOUS free throw percentage. In the NBA so far, for every 2 assists he has a turnover which is not a good ratio at all. His free throw percentage is STILL terrible. His 3 point shot dropped down even further to a subpar below .300. He can't play defense either with barely averaging a steal per game and i'm being generous there by saying he does BARELY get a steal. .6 steals a game to be precise which is horrendous for a guard who was so praised as a player going into the draft. STILL has no left hand to finish with. Has a broken jumpshot. No free throw upside to him. No defense. Uncontrolled when he's dribbling and driving to the rim. He's a broken player that should've gone late first or second round if anything. Do you have anything to even say besides, oh he deserves to be in the NBA. Maybe he does, maybe not but the guy would barely survive in the d-league i'd bet. I have hard stats to back me up, you've done nothing to prove me wrong. I can send you articles upon articles, videos and videos of him being uncontrollable going to the hoop. But if you don't even back your own statements up with facts, then i'm not even gonna bother trying to back myself more with the evidence. G'day.
+Timothee25 he's still got the confidence. it's just that the level of competition in the NBA is great. pretty much everyone he is playing with in the league are all great.
He’s hasn’t lived up to being a lottery pick but he’s a solid bench player in the NBA, and can even start at times. He helped the Rockets a ton last year
Damn I wish my high school basketball could have played like this. The fact that the entire team smoked a ton of weed before each practice may have hindered their performance a bit.
His hesitation dribble is ridiculous it creates so much space for him plus he is quick as a cat. Austin is killing it at Duke now. Congratulations Austin I know your dad must be very proud of you.
This dude was and still is inspiration. His pro career took a bad turn but through high school this guy was my role model and I wanted to play like him.

Austin I never lost faith in you and now you ballin and having a career year so far showing people the Austin Rivers we were supposed to get . Arguably one of the best hoopmixtapes ever most likely 2nd to John wall .
I just finished watching the Rockets vs Warriors and I had to remember how good Austin River's was back in high school. This the best high school mixtape hands down.
So u would have Austin rivers over Kobe Bryant ? And then Thon Maker over Shaquille O'neal? And then Anthony Davis over a Chris webber or KG? Wow 😒 that's kinda sad bro

Cory Orlando Beats it sucks but we really did. We expected him to be this big a sis star smh. Now I can only enjoy Austin rivers highlights from high school n college. Very few NBA highlights he has that are great
He's struggling in the NBA because he's just a decent athlete by NBA standards and he hasn't done much to outweigh that. He can't finish over help defense, he doesn't recognize rotations, he doesn't have a floater to go to when an easy layup isn't there, he doesn't have anything resembling a reliable pull up jumper, he plays hinself out of position on D by overgambling, etc, etc. In short, he's still the same player, and that's a problem.
on point, he hasn't improved since this mixtape, I still see him do the same moves he's been comfortable with and never pushing outside his comfort zone
This man was so explosive w his handle back then. I always thought back then his ceiling was like a Kyrie but shit never got there smh still one of the coldest hoopmixtapes
This happens sometimes. Same thing wit oj mayo. He had crazy bounce in high school and had a 42 inch vertical at the combine. Once he hir the pros I never saw him dunk
His crossover is his main move. It's quick but it is very stationary. It's quick enough to get high school players but it won't get NBA players and since his game is built on him being a scorer by slashing to the basket he's gonna struggle when his crossover isn't as effective.

Man players are coming out of college playing better than he does. He's got great potential, but I've seen little to no motivation to really get better for him. He really should've stayed in college.
he averages almost 8 points a game, stop bullshitting yourself, look at his stats and you notice he improved dramatically from year 1, hes gonna be good some day, but never as great as stephen A. smith made him sound coming out of college
That was in the beginning of the season and thats what his stats were. I don't check his stats everyday and see if he will get better. We will see how he plays next season and then you can come back and talk.
TheCode He got plenty of playing time in New Orleans. He even started the first 10 games as a rookie. What do you mean expectations? You shouldn't be in the NBA if you couldn't deal with expectations. Darren Collison averaged 12pts/6asts behind CP3 in his rookie season..
Austin Rivers is basically Freq in 2k16. Cold af in high school and then he gets to the league and is a 55 overall
😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Excellent comparison.👌🏻😂

Smh i really hate when this happens to players. But atleast he ended this season strong
Yea he should have stayed to at least develop his left hand a little more

Lamelo is doing what Austin should’ve done when he came to the NBA. Lamelo kept all his confidence and style.
Fuck yeah!!!
Whose here cause he went off tonight and that’s something we’ve been waiting for since we saw this mixtape? LOL
Wish he would have actually played like this when he was in the league
His hesitation dribble is ridiculous it creates so much space for him plus he is quick as a cat. Austin is killing it at Duke now. Congratulations Austin I know your dad must be very proud of you.
