    If your day is 'earlier' than someone else's day (as measured by comparing the local times at the same absolute time and choosing the lowest time) than you are in an 'earlier' time zone than someone else, or you are 'an hour behind' for example. But slightly counter intuitive to this description is the fact that those in an 'earlier' timezone will experience the same sunset at a later absolute time. It is a confusing, but there is no better alternative other than simply getting rid of time zones altogether. So Steve is correct in saying they are 'earlier than us' however this kind of language is misleading- they are in an 'earlier timezone' which is some sense has a special meaning as I've described- and Ivana is right when she says 'we see the sunrise earlier than them'. Steve is talking about timezones and Ivana is talking about absolute time.

    • @JetLagWarriors
      @JetLagWarriors  4 года назад +5

      Let's suppose we got rid of time zones altogether. What does that look like? Would it be the same time everywhere on earth? This is interesting.
      Let's imagine we get rid of time zones, and every country in the world now changes to Toronto's time. So, 1 pm in Toronto is still lunch time, but as you move east, 1pm becomes breakfast time, and further east, in fact halfway around the globe (Jakarta, for example) 1pm is the middle of the night.
      But, hold on a second.
      If it's 1pm, in Toronto and Jakarta, Jakarta would still be using tomorrow's date, no? It it's the 1st of the month in Toronto, it will still be the 2nd in Jakarta. And if Jakarta is still 'tomorrow' won't we run into the same problem about which is 'earlier'?
      'Hey I'm going to call my friend in Jakarta.' (Says someone in Toronto at 1pm)
      No, don't do that, he's probably sleeping; 1pm is the middle of the night for them. Jakarta is 12 hours earlier than us.'
      'How could they be earlier than us if he's already sleeping? They're later than us... it's already tomorrow over there! Tomorrow is certainly later.'
      'Yes, they're experiencing tomorrow, but they sun comes up earlier for them, meaning they're earlier...'
      I think the only way around this is to make it so 'tomorrow' is no longer tied to when the sun comes up, and 'tomorrow' starts when the clock passes 12am. In this new world, the date on the calendar changes at 12am, whether it's night time or right in the middle of your work day.
      ...
      So, some people on earth would be getting up when the sun comes up, eating breakfast and heading to work like usual. Then, after they've worked for a few hours, it would be tomorrow.
      OK, your turn to analyze how this would affect the international world of business. Maybe chaos for the world, maybe small advantage for some. Maybe no change at all!
      My head hurts. Back to editing.

    • @chrisg8802
      @chrisg8802 4 года назад +3

      @@JetLagWarriors That sounds right. All local times are now equal, however regions would still organize their 'local days' around daylight hours. So all times are the same, but nothing else would change- businesses would still start 'x hours' after sunrise, people would sleep during darkness, and so the concept of local time would persist in some new way. Since this is silly- to have no timezones- we have them and have to live with the mild confusion. I thought of a succinct way to summarize the confusion in your video - "those whose day starts later than yours are said to be in an 'earlier' timezone than you". It sound odd but it's true!

    Most Singapore food originated from Malaysia when Singapore was still part of Malaysia. Food such as Laksa, Nasi Lemak, Chicken Rice, Bak Kut Teh, Char Kuey Tiaw, Prawn Mee, Roti Canai, Nasi Briyani and Nasi Kandar all originated from Malaysia but now available in Singapore as well.

Peninsular Malaysia) and join together with Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak to become "Malaysia" on 16th Sept 1963 (Malaysia day) until 9th Aug 1965, when Singapore was no longer part of the Federation of Malaysia.

    Public transportation cards can be 'used' all over Korea, but the very 'T-Money' card is a 'Seoul Transportation Card'. (There are other local cards for ex. Busan had 'Hanaro' or 'My B' cards for the last 20 years...).. And since Seoul has so many visitors from everywhere, they came up with this 'refund' service fairly recently(around 10 years ago). I don't think Busan people are aware of the refund system so especially elderly people in the convenience stores probably didn't get what you were asking for. I'm sorry as a Seoul/Busaner to let you down at the end your travel in Korea.
