That pottery you said was for buds was actually a soap dish for on your wash hand basin. The holes at the bottom let's water run out so the soap doesn't yet soggy.
Hi Laura, one way to make coffee with your brass coffee pot is to get a deep tray and put sand in it, place it on your stove over low heat and put coffee grounds, ground fine, with water in the pot, then start moving the pot through the sand, until the coffee starts foaming and rising. Careful it doesn't overflow! Hello, Turkish coffee...
Laura, for copper and brass that has great patina but has gone matte, you can use some 000 steel wool and gently polish the piece. That way it has a little luster but yet retains patina. This works best on pieces that have lots of detail - where you can hit the high points and bring back some shine but yet retain the patina that has settled into the nooks and crannies.
That’s definitely a Hornsea Pottery mug! Lucky you. I live not far from Hornsea but it’s hard to find thrifted pieces cheap as everyone knows what it is. 😄
Laura, Thank you for sharing your thrifting with us. I appreciate your style, your sense of humor and the fun you put into it! I know it's a lot of work. I'm 67 and still thrifting! You go girl!
About the Turkish coffee pot be careful as most linings they use are not safe . I would use them only as decorations. Go for stainless steel Turkish pots or real silver . It’s easy to make coffee you just need to buy Turkish coffee finely ground
As a vintage brass and copper collector I love patina. I even like a bit of a dint or ware. I love to see that something has lived, I find it more interesting. Also that dallah is absolutely beautiful. ❤
I saw a lady polishing 3 brass trays at the antique mall where I rent a space and so much wanted to tell her to not polish them, but they were her pieces so I stayed quite. Saddens me to see people taking off all of the aged patina on brass. There is a furniture polish I use on brass and it doesn't take off the patina and looks really good. Wouldn't use it for eating off of though.
I have one question for all the people who have staged open kitchen shelvs and the question is: and where do you keep all pots plates and utensils that you use every day lol?
I worked for a large thriftstore in Los angeles ( St. Vincent de Paul ). I loved decorating the store displays for Halloween & Christmas. There was so much donations. And i would also make costumes for my 80 lb. Pitbull from lots of things i found.
I would leave the strainers as they are, whomever purchases them can decide! Nice haul! The glass flower is worth some money, I think! Lol I only would say that because of the flat bottom,( the cut of the bottom) not 100% but I would check into it for sure! 😁
Omg love your videos. I love thrifting!!! My girlfriend and I drove from PA to SD. We decided after our vacation,we would stop randomly in every state all the way home at thrift stores. We had my van PACKED tight. We found deals galore. Much love and excitement to you.
I love the way the strainers look! When you had them sitting on your shelf, I thought they would make great candle holders, or a light fixture with all the holes, the light comes through great!
You r so inspiring iam 73 yes old and love what you're doing you display so much happiness can't get away ❤️ from your video s you are amazing I lv the pieces u choose and think the odd thing s are inspiring we don't have the amount of nice things here as u have in your travels but it's been really fun to see you get started with thrifting and what you do as you decorate nice nice nice iowa
Laura, you need to check out the Crazy Lamp Lady's last "SOLD" video. She found a Bitossi decanter for only $4.00!! She flipped it and made a profit of $481.00.!!! Just thought you might be interested in seeing it. It's different from a lot of the more common blue pieces. Stunning!!!
I love Hornsea mugs. I used to have a fantastic one, brown with dolphins and a vibrant turquoise background. It disappeared in a move. The Hallowe'en pram gave me quite a shock and a giggle!
Never clean patina if you are planning to sell the piece! The patina is what most buyers are looking for. This includes jewelry. Also, that pottery that you think is for plants? That's a soap dish. It obviously doesn't hold any water, those are drain holes on top and below. Of course it can be used for whatever you'd like but it started life as a soap dish. Good for your sponge/scrubber at the kitchen sink too.
New subscriber, love your channel. Fellow lover of Scandinavian design & Bitossi. Next time you see one, scoop the Gurley witch at 1:35 as easy sale & very collectible.
Another video where your styling is top notch! I can’t imagine how the employees can possibly begin to sort thru all those holiday items! 😅 love the bracelets and let us know how the coffee making goes with that new brass pot!
I love how you mention Carl Tasha (my niece’s deceased husband)! He would have loved that you liked his style. I would have polished the strainers - I am not fond of unpolished brass - so that would be my choice to polish them. Sad that there was nothing to buy from the Halloween section. Great Video!!!
I watch every single video you make and am always amazed at how many wonderful things you find. I love your decorating skills..and of course can’t get enough of your new home!! ❤️
I was there the day before your visit. I went to retails based on your videos! I couldn’t commit to going back the next day but I would have loved to have met you. I was with my daughter who moved to her first apt in Portland.
I love the colanders oh my gosh they are fabulous PLEASE LEAVE THEM AS THEY ARE I LOVE THE COFFEE POT THOSE WERE MY FAVORITES BUT EVERYTHING WAS BEAUTIFUL VERY GOOD VIDEO
I have a copper strainer similar to the ones you picked up. I love the patina, so I would leave them as is. Thanks for taking us along on your thrifting adventure!
Greetings Ms. Laura...i love all your finds! The copper small coffee pot, they call it ibrik, is cooked normaly in the very hot sand, cooked in front of the customer or in the street, i have that soecial pot, essreso style with ground turkish coffee...really good and eaten with special dessert....you'll love it....
We started making Turkish coffee in an ibrik in the last year or so. We found it worked best by putting the sand in a grill appropriate bowl/tray and heating/making it over the grill. Make sure your sand is deep enough and it has to get VERY hot. At a point it will move very fast and you will have to use the on off method. Look enough on you tube and you'll learn how to do it! :)
Love the colanders with patina. Beautiful glass clover! Could the pottery piece be a floral frog that sits in a vase and the “drainage” holes allow water to the stems? You find the best things!!
I waitressed while at college and while setting up and waiting for baklava and Turkish delight delivery the Lebanese manager would make us coffee in a similar pot. Fine ground coffee, with equal parts sugar, 1 cup water to 3tbsp each. Bring to slow boil, remove from heat till grounds sink, serves 3. Those pastries...never had fresher.
Id leave the copper strains as they are. I believe its a connection with the item as it is and the new owner can do as they want. You could always include how to directions with them 🤗
Ole classic movies r sometimes great sources of education on classic ways ..I've cafe pored fr those cool Asian/India coffee ☕ pots ....so neat they drank fr demi -tass ( sp?) Cups ...
For the coffee, we have the same at my parents in Kurdistan, usually we mix some cardamom with the coffee it goes amazing with it:) For the Copper strainers my grandmother cleans them with Somac:), hope those tips were useful🙃
That pottery you said was for buds was actually a soap dish for on your wash hand basin. The holes at the bottom let's water run out so the soap doesn't yet soggy.
Thank you. I was leaning towards an inscence burner at first. It's a soap dish, well done. It's so pretty. 👍
That patina on the copper strainers is what i look for on my copper. Leave them as is. Its harder to come by with the perfect patina.
Wow! Those Re-Tails volunteers are some seriously dedicated folks!
I'd leave the colanders as they are
Same
1 less work
2 patina baby!!!
Agree, will give the future owner the opportunity to decide how they want them to look.
What do you do with ALL of the stuff you bring in??
Copper strainers are perfect just the way they are, wud look perfect in your beautiful kitchen x greetings from UK x
I love when I saw them displayed just the way they are
I agree. Please do not polish the copper!

Leave the colanders as is! It took years for them to get that beautiful patina!
I think the little ceramic flower holder is actually a soap dish? Also, I would polish the copper.
Great finds, Laura! I would have kept the Hornsea mug for myself too! ❤️❤️
could the small pottery piece with flowers and small holes be a soap or sponge dish instead of a vase?
Absolutely could be! Then the drainage holes would make sense if it was to set in a sink maybe 🤔
I was yard saleing today in Boise and I saw an awful lot of stuff that Laura would have loved.
I’m out doing the same from Fruitland to Boise Susan!!!!
I saw so many around boise too. Didn't stop at any though.
Laura you find such amazing things. I absolutely love your new coffee mug by the way.👍

That is Hornsea pottery. My parents used to have biscuit jars we bought from the shop there. Hi from UK!
Your the best one on youtube doing this. Also, I was raised around Portland.

The copper strainers are beautiful! I would leave them as they are, cleaning them could make the finish uneven
Love the colanders as they are - I have seen people plant different lettuces in them, it is supercool looking and you can eat the lettuce too!

That is a ceramic frog, probably had a matching dish or bowl. Your a creative soul hun ;)
I think the four leafed clover is a Murano piece.

I’m wondering if the pottery dish with the holes is meant to be a soap dish? Love it!
