Probably the best thing I watched was Insomnia by Christopher Nolan. Finally finished both his and David Fincher’s filmographies with Panic Room. Also would recommend Martin Scorsese’s The Last Waltz, a film about the final concert of The Band. Brilliant.
Any other shows you've watched recently that have the same vibe? I absolutely need more severance, so might as well try something somewhat similar (even if it's not as good)
ooo i'm excited to hear your thoughts on severance when you finish it! this show got me to start writing again, which is doesn't happen often. the set/costume design is some of my favorite.
Dude, I started watching Severance just a month ago and its one of my favorites shows ever. Im upset that I came to the party late but kinda happy too at the same time because I didn’t have to wait as long as the others did for the second season.
He does , just a few days after the fact . Can’t blame the guy , it benefits him to have people watch all the way through , rather than skimming through
@@phoneyboi6644 yes they can skip around , it’s just with exact timestamps it becomes effortless to do so , which can undermine a video ( this doesn’t really apply to these what I watched in said month , I m talking in general ) . Oh man you are going to love the rest of Severance if you're already hooked after 3 episodes. Get ready for one of TVs all-time season finale's. Cannot wait for season 2.
Ever since you talked about “monkey Mondays” I was excited/concerned about you watching the planet of the ape movies because I’m a huge fan of all the movies. I actually got a group of my friends together to watch them with me and we started a drinking game where if we accidentally called the apes “monkey” you’d have to drink because “monkey” is normally used as a derogatory way to refer to the apes in-universe.
DEAR GOD KARSTEN, you gave me a jump scare when you said you only just started watching Severance. You must finish it immediately - I PROMISE you will love it! One of the best shows I've ever seen. I was screaming at the TV (in the best possible way) throughout the finale. And please please please do an in-depth video review!
yes SEVERANCE!!!!!!!!! I watched that show TWICE within about a week. had to make my whole family sit and watch it too,,,, especially to get to that ending. I cannot wait to see your full thoughts on it, three episodes is barely scratching the genius of that show!!!
Came back to say that Karsten has the clearest understanding of Perfect Days yet. Most critics seem to focus on the beauty in the mundane, but the film also have a grit to it. To me, it perfectly captured that state of contentment in being lost. As someone who have felt that their life is unexplainably hollow, while also live in their own comfort bubble, Takuma's character spoke to me deeply. Yes he finds happiness in the little moments, but there's also a lingering of something more that is missing.
Thank you for reviewing Malcom X . People who say Spike Lee has only made 1 good movie obviously never watched this masterpiece. Arguably the best biopic ever.
I saw Malcolm X in Harkins Theatres and it is better than seeing it on TV. Perfect Days is a masterpiece and Lady Snowblood is also a classic masterpiece.
Io Capitano was indeed incredible! On top of the message the photography and cinematography is just incredible knowing it was fully filmed outside and that the main actors weren't pro actor before so most of the scene were part improvised! (I watched a couple of the director I found on yt after it haha)
Karsten thank you for starting Severence. I started watching it a bit ago but only got about six episodes in and never got back to it but now you're pushed me to finish it to understand your next what I watched video. Also I just saw Dune: Part Two again, long live the fighters
I agree that Malcolm X needs to talked about way more than it is. If I were an American History teacher it would be required viewing in my class. Easily the greatest historical biopic I’ve ever seen and humanizes such an important figure in American history like no other film I’ve seen.
‘Pachyderme’, I think, was about her secret of her grandpa’s sexual abuse of her during her youth. How the wood on the bedroom ceiling became faces watching (shame), how she was afraid of the creaking outside her door and wanted to be one with the floral wallpaper, how he watched her swim and then told her not to make a sound when he took her to a private part of the woods … It’s devastating.
18:24 the person in what looks like a plastic chair with the goatee - that's my daughter's ti ti. They were also in A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas - saw the movie with them & another actor in the cast Cool they showed up in your video
Here's what I watched, Killers of the Flower Moon (9/10) - _Martin Scorsese proves yet again why he's one the most prolific and influential filmmakers of all time. Its long and poignant and showcased some of the most gut wrenching scenes in all of film last year, paired up with nuanced performances from everyone really. Although I wished it showed more of Molly's pov alot more and what exactly did she saw in Ernest to fell in love with him and there were a few scenes that I found unintentionally hilarious which kind of broke my immersion. Ultimately, these are just a very few nitpicks from an otherwise great film._ The Royal Tenenbaums (10/10) - _For some reason I had this very strong urge to rewatch this movie and guess what? It's... amazing. Gene Hackman is so freaking good here, really wished we saw more of this type of performance from him. On that note, we NEED more writing collabs between Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson, it's been long overdue now. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed all of Wes' recent works but man there's this certain charm about his earlier works that makes me go back and watch them over and over._ The Marvels (6/10) - _Honestly? Not as bad as people are making it out to be. The whole switching thing was really entertaining and creative and the action scenes are pretty good. The movie also adds some much needed character to Captain Marvel and Iman Vellani's Ms Marvel is the best character in the movie no surprise there. It does have the usual generic revenge plot and the movie heavily relies on plot convience but aside from those obvious flaws the movie is pretty decent and definitely didn't deserved all the unnecessary hate it got._ Ms Marvel (6/10) - _Fun little teen comedy superhero series that didn't needed to be dragged out for 6 episodes with unnecessary backstories and overarching exposition. The family dynamic was easily the best part and the show should've sticked to that more._ And that's it. I'm currently watching Shōgun and so far it's great.
Poor Things (rewatch) - 5/5 Videodrome - 4/5 The Thing (with audio commentary) - 5/5 The Worst Man in London - 2.5/5 Past Lives - 4/5 Nimona - 3.5/5 (honestly it's a 3/5 for me, but I'll give it half-star for it to crawl out of cancellation hell) The Holdovers - 4.5/5 The Iron Claw - 4/5 The Black Pharaoh, the Savage and the Princess - 3/5
The eternal memory has a deeper meaning for us chileans. Augusto Góngora was a journalist involved in documenting the horrible aspects of the Pinochet's Dictatorship. He contributed so much to the memory of our country so we can never forget the horrible crimes committed, that is an sad irony that he now starts forgetting things because of the Alzheimer's
fkn finally Assassination of Jesse James appeared on this thing, between waiting for this moment since I've started watching these vids. Glad you liked it.
Finally watched Poor things (the only option in my country is pirating rly..) and it's immediately one of my favorite films. Also watched 8 1/2 dollars, crazy Russian 90s film, very entertaining and feels the most like what living back there (and in the show business) felt like (i assume i wasnt there), kinda giving post-USSR pulp fiction
Pachyderm is about a young girl being assaulted by her grandfather. the saliva, his hugeness, he forgets her bathing suit, telling her to keep quiet. its subtle but once the subject of it hits you you can’t unsee its def about that. even just look at the poster. much more menacing than on first glance
I started the month with Blackberry. I really liked it. It kinda felt to me like it was trying to be The Social Network, but that's not a bad thing as that movie is also great. Next I watched Madame Web Next, I watched The Holdovers. It was very enjoyable. Can't say it was one of my personal favorites of the year, but I don't really have complaints either. Not really for me, but still a good movie. Lastly, I started watching Megamind 2 but gave up about 25 minutes in. Very much a low budget tv pilot made exclusively for children. Don't waste your time on it
well? tell me! what did you watch?!
The Bicycle Thief: 3/5
The Lavender Hill Mob: 5/5
Lisa Frankenstein: 5/5
Madame Web: Fuck this movie/5
Blow out with John Travolta :D

i also watched the creator i really really enjoyed it !!
Recently Cure by kiyoshi kurosawa and dune 2 both great movies
Finally he’s on severance. Probably the best show to come out in recent years.
Yes
Severance is one of my most favourite things in a while. It constantly reminds me that yes, tv can be this good
If you liked the first 3 episodes of severance wait until you finish. Oh boy what a show. Probably the best show in the past 5 years

The tale of the fox must’ve been a huge influence on Wes Anderson, and the fantastic Mr. Fox, I mean it’s uncanny

So surprised you're only starting Severance now, but I know you'll love it. S2 can't come soon enough!
SEVERANCE!!!!
The whole season is great, but the last couple episodes are sincerely amazing. Can't wait to hear you talk about it.
OMG Severance love! Literally one of the most underrated shows ever, you’re not ready for the finale.👀
so glad you're watching Severance, such an underrated show. same with The Leftovers that someone else mentioned
