@@lianathewolflover4516 I loved them soooo much. I really loved seeing her pov and how she loved both her parents so much and how she truly was Americas daughter because of how she wanted to change things. I have the other book too from the queens pov and I loved everything single thing. My mom initially got me the first 2 books from Costco I think? I was an avid reader and she was going away for work for awhile (lots of traveling ) we had never been apart for that long so she got me those books and made me letters I opened each day so I wasn’t lonely without her. So I love the books for that reason but also because they are just well written YA books.
@ that’s such a sweet idea/thing your mom did for you. I used to be an avid reader when I was younger. (Specifically when I was in school, not that long ago)
I read the first two books of Delirium last year and even though I liked the story and the vibe and the writing, the premise is kinda ridiculous, specially considering it revolves around straight people, I could not take it that seriously, but I would love to see it adapted.
I have a ton of queer and LGBTQ friends but to say that something is ridiculous because they are straight…. In something someone made up in their own mind… is what I find ridiculous in your comment. There can be straight and gay stories. Someone can write an LGBTQ Selection. I however adored this series and loved it for what it was.
@Cutie_Biscuit I'm sorry if my comment was offensive, but I truly believe that the message would've been stronger if it wasn't about straight people exclusively, specially because I remember two mentions of homophobia and gender roles but, from what I know, those subjects are never mentioned again in any meaningful way. When I was reading those books I found the topic very interesting because I could see how those arguments about love could be used to forbid it, but again, since straight relationships have never been demonized in our society like gay relationships, for example, it came as underwhelming to me. Still, I was super invested in the love story.
@ not offended it just seems sort of odd to have that stance, but we’re all welcome to our opinions and how we see things. I haven’t read those books since 2015. I think it’s one that came out so I honestly don’t remember. I don’t think that was in the box but I’m not gonna call you wrong. I just don’t remember if that was the case or not. To me, I love any kind of healthy relationship story regardless of their gay straight or other.
When I imagined Maxon, I always imagined Peter as the face claim. Then I saw the pilot and was destroyed. Like wtf. Also Aspen always seemed like an asshole to me, but then we get the second pilot Maxon.

This was a really interesting video, and thank you very much for watching these shows so we didn't have too, but I'm going to rant about the selection now, so anyone reading, you have been warned. Both of the pilots were off from the books in some major(to me anyways) ways. The second one I'm not even going to mention because at that point it's not even the same characters. The selection as a book series is more romance than dystopian and until the last book is better described as a romance set in a dystopian. As for discrepancies, I believe she is peer pressured into signing up for the selection by her family(the show got the reasons right), and there's this whole big deal about a photograph being taken. Her and Aspen don't sleep together because its illegal for them to even be together romantically, not to mention what would happen if you add pregnancy as a possibility, but there is a moment where, being prepared for the palace she is told not only to not deny maxon anything but asked if she is a virgin so points there. Aspen breaks it off with America before the news about her being selected comes out, and there is a big deal about him joining the army because his family is in constant poverty. America's first moment with Maxon is actually really sweet, and happens before they are supposed to meet. She's freaking out about all this and runs out for some air and he happens to run into her and they talk and he's never met someone freaking out before but he's still supportive. Then either that night or the next day they talk about the fact that America doesn't want to be here, he offers to send her home, but she says they need the money and instead offers to be his friend, and he agrees to just keep moving her on until the final five. The books have a little more set up of maxon and americas relationship before aspen shows up but I understand that its a tv show, but there is essentially no mention or at least no explicit mention of rebels until at least half way through the book or like book 2. That's about all I say on the pilot. The selection is not a great or probably even good series but I did really like it and the way the pilot missed some of the crucial things just really bothered me. Thanks for reading this whole long thing.
Thanks so much for your thoughts! It actually reminded me about a lot of plot points from the book that I’d forgotten because I read it a while ago. You bring up an interesting point about how the first pilot made America and Maxon’s relationship a little more tense at first than it was in the books, though I suspect they would quickly be besties if the TV series had continued. And yeah, I don’t think the second pilot was remotely trying to mimic the books, because basically nothing except the overall concept and the characters’ names were the same
I feel the same thank you for mentioning that. They bothered me too. Something else that I noticed was the shade of her hair she is meant to be a natural redhead which gets people to connect with her at first but this looked dyed. It was such a minor detail but it was really anoying to me
no because the 2012 one is objectively low quality but how did they manage to get maxon and aspen wrong?? i feel like they had two actors that actually meet the character descriptions in the books, they just cast them in the wrong roles lol
They need to make the selection its sucha a interesting series if they do it right.. Like bridgerton who? And maxon is so likeable and OG book boyfriend too
I know the 2013 maxon is so Different from the Books BUT hes Enzo from Vampire diaries. I love him. I can’t believe I was robbed of this show. I deserved it
I think that in a true YA dystopian book fashion, a show made after Andrew Fukuda - The Hunt trilogy or Prodigy trilogy by Marie Lu would have been fun.
Just realized 2012 Maxon was the actor from 10 Things TV show in 2009. 3 years later did WONDERS, he looked terrible and in this pilot he looks BETTER.
I didn’t even know they made a TV series version of that movie💀 He’s also best known for playing Spock in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and while I haven’t seen that show, I could see him doing a good job as Spock because he wasn’t very emotive as Maxon 😂
is funny how has been so long since i ead the books, especially since i lost the 1st selection book in 2015 and only recently go a new one, but I remember the plot enouth to be sure this pilots are very far from it. I don't understand why producers inssit on changing the script so much.
I like the second selection. The first selection was good. It was more accurate, but I like the second one better because it was different now the second selection should not be called the selection at that point they changed too many things being said they should’ve just changed the name with it and called it. Something else and the show probably would’ve stayed. Because as soon as they realize there were to many things being changed, there’s no accuracy. The fans aren’t not gonna like it. We should just go ahead and change the name that way we could’ve kept the show and then we wouldn’t be able to be disappointed fans because it’s not about the book anymore. It’s about a whole different storyline and then they should also change the characters names, and the country name just changed the names. PS That’s so funny how they didn’t pick up the selection 2013 one because of reign which I find that so ironic that they didn’t keep that on there. Yes it would’ve been two different medieval shows but it’s it’s two different shows. They’re about two different things yes, they are set up like The same little bit, but they’re different storylines and they’re not even about the same thing. And I find it very funny that the girl who played America, which is also Petra from Jane the Virgin also plays in reign as the love interest of Mary’s husband, so that’s very funny how that happened that she didn’t get her story to be the main character of that because they chose a different show over it because they were kinda in the same area which they weren’t if the selection 2013 was futuristic, but I guess I still like both adaptations of 2012 and 2013 but I just feel like 2012 and 2013 are two different stories that they’re trying to tell two different shows that’s the vibes it gives off
WHAT IS ENZO DOING THERE- good golly they didn't give green light imagine that thing on his filmography. Edit: okay no why on earth did they decide that the change the show needed to be given green light in 2013 was making it 200% edgier 😭😭

I normally love open endings but damn, time and place. 😭💀 ETA: Team Julien btw, her bf from the first book SUCKED and was a total dick to her for moving on after she thought he was fucking dead. Like baby you died and were gone for a year or more and the best way to honor your memory was by continuing to love others but w/e 🙄😤 I was so mad it was implied she dumped her new guy to get back with him. So messy.
Guess I’m reading the Selection Series again for the (number I can’t remember) time
I have all of the books including the extra ones.
@ what did you think about the last two books? The ones with Maxon and Americas daughter? Personally to me, it felt like those books didn’t need to happen. I felt like it ending with America and Maxon was perfect
As someone who became a Star Trek fan you have no idea how much Ethan Peck playing Maxon was a jump scare.
He's sort of acting like Spock here too tbh
@@looseleafellieI know! It’s like watching an au fanfic
OHMAGA IT REALLY IS PETER FROM THE NARNIAN MOVIES
He took a wrong turn on his way back through the wardrobe
They should do the selection. Stick to the book and do good acting....but LEGEND I waited for so long for it and it never went anywhere.
I absolutely loved these book series.
I think the whole idea and thing around Delirium is the point of dystopian. The books are phenomenal. I would have loved to have seen them made into books.
I do wanna watch all 3 so I hope there are links to watch ❤
@@Cutie_Biscuit Thanks for watching my video! The 2012 Selection pilot can be found here: ruclips.net/video/G6abWscFyss/видео.html. Unfortunately I’m not sure about the 2013 pilot anymore - the place where I originally watched it removed it. The Delirium pilot is on Internet Archive: archive.org/details/delirium-2014-pilot
@@looseleafellie thank you!!! 😊 that’s okay for the 2013 one since it’s not actually the selection and sooo many things were wrong off the bat.
I remember watching the Delirium one and the fact that they put the whole book in that 1 pilot 😂 didn't remember just HOW bad it was though? 😭 Another dystopian book series I remember getting a bad adaptation (that I never watched though) was The Darkest Minds! I remember enjoying the book series A LOT though so think I avoided it so it didn't taint my feelings 😅
I didn’t even realize The Darkest Minds got an adaptation hahaha
Its like the Fallen movie that absolutely SUCKED. Heard they were gonna do Hush Hush, not aure whatever happened to it.
Hush hush doesn’t look like it’s happening anymore.
It was announced 8 years ago and the two leads met up I think a couple years after the announcement but nothing.
I think they were deliberating on whether it was gonna be a movie or a show cause the author or a writer on the production did a poll on instagram.
In 2021, it seemed like Nickelodeon were gonna do something with it. There was an article that said it would be premiering early 2022 but still nothing.
At this point I don’t know if I want it to happen cause none of these tv producers/ writers know how to create a good tv book adaptations
@@hazelm3002 thank you for the info bc i had no idea! And i love how thorough yet brief this was!!! I guess id prefer never seeing it happen to watching it get utterly destroyed.
I loved the selection books when they were released (the daughter books, however, suck) and I was kinda excited for an adaptation, and sadly they were both unwatchably bad lol but the worst part of that whole mess is that they had Peter from narnia and they MADE HIM ASPEN? Like hellooo, casting people, he was the footprint for Maxon omg it still annoys me so much lol
saw enzo and immediately clicked
19:56 So the whole first section is one of my absolute favorite book series. I think the first one was better because it was more like the book.
If the second one wasn’t the selection then I’d be into it. But since it was ABSOLUTELY not. That is nothing like the books…..
The casting from what I saw was way better in the first one.
The second one from what I saw no one was cast well…
@@Cutie_Biscuit If we’re judging the adaptations on which one was more faithful to the Selection, the 2012 pilot absolutely wins imo. Personally I thought the 2013 pilot was better in terms of viewing experience, but only if you treat it as its own thing
@@looseleafellie 10,000%
Petra from Jane The Virgin?!
What did they do to queen Amberly?? Wasn’t she supposed to be a kind soul? And she was sick if I remember the book correctly…. Why did they try to make her a terrible person??!
@@angelinaelle I guess they thought it would be more interesting if the queen character was up to something devious, but it does make her very different from the books
It was such a minor detail but it was really anoying to me
I agreed with you until you said it wasn’t a good series. Obviously people can like different things but I absolutely loved those series
no because the 2012 one is objectively low quality but how did they manage to get maxon and aspen wrong?? i feel like they had two actors that actually meet the character descriptions in the books, they just cast them in the wrong roles lol
I deserved it
If we ignore the fact that he’s supposed to be Maxon, he kind of killed it ngl
@ right ?? 😌 same here he killed it
I wish there had been an adaption of the unwind series. It was such a creepy concept
I think that in a true YA dystopian book fashion, a show made after Andrew Fukuda - The Hunt trilogy or Prodigy trilogy by Marie Lu would have been fun.
Max in the 2nd pilot is to similar to the Prince in The reign but I don't see that many similarities.
@ yes!!!!! It only went 1 season, wasnt as good as the movie but still good, and the dad reprised his role as the dad!!!
Question: why does the aspect ratio shift several times throughout the video?
WHAT DID THEY DO TO ENZO
is funny how has been so long since i ead the books, especially since i lost the 1st selection book in 2015 and only recently go a new one, but I remember the plot enouth to be sure this pilots are very far from it.
PS
That’s so funny how they didn’t pick up the selection 2013 one because of reign which I find that so ironic that they didn’t keep that on there. Yes it would’ve been two different medieval shows but it’s it’s two different shows. They’re about two different things yes, they are set up like The same little bit, but they’re different storylines and they’re not even about the same thing. And I find it very funny that the girl who played America, which is also Petra from Jane the Virgin also plays in reign as the love interest of Mary’s husband, so that’s very funny how that happened that she didn’t get her story to be the main character of that because they chose a different show over it because they were kinda in the same area which they weren’t if the selection 2013 was futuristic, but I guess I still like both adaptations of 2012 and 2013 but I just feel like 2012 and 2013 are two different stories that they’re trying to tell two different shows that’s the vibes it gives off
God I miss dystopian, but make it sexy era. They live in post industrial caste societies, yet they have a full beat and a blow out. I miss this
Dystopian is when you live in the slums, forced to be an Outcast(tm), but you have lip fillers and a professionally-applied wig and studio lighting
Can we talk about the host movie based on the book by Stephanie Meyer, Soairse Roan does her best but Jesus!
Delirium had a tv show?
Maybe one good thing from the 2nd pilot is that Maxon can act? Idk America seems miscasted in both versions.
i think someone forgot to tell enzo to act as someone else🤣
I gotta say, if you ignore the fact that he was supposed to be Maxon from the Selection, I was kind of here for a show about Evil Loser Prince

@@Barracuda-bi9ft yeah, if he was going to still be America’s endgame love interest, he’d need some massive character development
WHAT IS ENZO DOING THERE- good golly they didn't give green light imagine that thing on his filmography. Edit: okay no why on earth did they decide that the change the show needed to be given green light in 2013 was making it 200% edgier 😭😭

I’m glad that didn’t work / I was so so looking forward to the Netflix adaptation because it was announced at the same time as the Percy Jackson reboot - When will there be a good show?! And also why adapt “Ugly” - a 2012 Dystopian YA novel that most perople haven’t read - yet not the selection - while half the world is obsessed with trash tv shows like the bachelor?
To be fair, I think Uglies also had a massive fan base, but I was also very disappointed in that movie. It felt like it was released ten years late and had some major pacing issues imo
8:21 We need a spy on the inside... hmmmm that reminds me of someone it rhymes with Mercules Hulligan
The show would have been 50x better if she’d taken the opportunity to break into a rousing rendition of Yorktown
How did they so horribly mix up the casting of Hot Spock and Peter from Narnia
They should switch maxon and aspen
I just waited for Yael Grobglas because she is amazing, and rhe seconds pilot does looks like a better show, but not a good one or a good adaption...
Good things Yael was free for Jane the virgin
I loved the books but good giddy aunt who thought Prince Chuck Bass was a good idea?
WE COULD HAVE PETER FROM NARNIA?
Spock was in one of these? And Giles in the other? 😄
