@@sillygo0oser Tbh I loved the romance in Pride and Prejudice (like an introvert with pride and an extrovert who is prejudiced? AND the two end up together because the introvert lets go of his pride and the extrovert's prejudices melt away when she sees him change for the better?) BUT I don't love when booktok recommends books that take the storyline from Pride and Prejudice and doesn't add any twist other than making it a really bad fanfic- (Also I get what you mean about victorian rich ppl, there's a TON of content with them as MCs. After a while it can get annoying.)

@@yishmoosa1234 Pride and Prejudice represents both Elizabeth and Darcy. Both of them have pride, both of them have prejudice. And it's through overcoming these vices that their story comes together. Darcy looks down upon the Bennets (prejudice), Elizabeth is too proud to do a lot of things actually. Pride and prejudice go hand in hand, I believe. You cannot have have prejudice without pride. You cannot have pride without prejudice. In most cases anyway.

In Not an expert on pride and prejudice, but I always assumed prejudice refers to the people (including Elisabeth) that see Darcy as a rude and bad person, even tho he doesn’t do much more evil than not conforming to social Norms (not dancing and not enjoying small talk, preferring to be alone and read or write, etc). At least in my eyes, the only thing that wasn’t great of him was stopping jade from getting to Marry whateverhisnameis, and that was only out of protectiveness to his friend, who he doesn’t want to end up in a loveless marriage. While the pride also refers to these people, who think they’re so much better than him just because they’re mean and rude under the covers and not openly, or Darcy and his ‚im so deep and emo no one understands me anyways(derogatory)‘ attitude. Again not an expert but that’s how I understood it

I don’t even mind the Jane Austen aspect IF you lean into the comedy portion of it. maybe I’m just not into romance but imagine a feel-good comedy about a lesbian in the 1800s who pressure to marry, ending up marrying a 21st century frat boy hockey player and instead of becoming lovers, they form a close bond and start feeling like best friends. you could even leave in room for sad parts, such as him having to leave or telling her he has cancer.

It's a myth that people were super unclean back then. hygene was actually super important to them. they washed daily. bernadette banner has a great video on this. also, corsets weren't invented yet in 1812...they wore short or long stays, very soft and flexible support garments. in the case of short stays, they didn't even come down to the waist. also they couldn't be tightlaced bc the hand sewn eyelets couldn't hand the strain. metal grommets hadn't been invented yet.
