  • For you long time viewers of my live stock day trade playlist, you know I've commented on the "survive so you can thrive" idea millions of times. The idea truly is one that can not be overlooked though! Going into this day, my day trading results had been very lackluster and I was on a bumpy ride of simply trying to "survive". I kept my risk under control and managed the trades properly; however, it was just a bumpy ride! Which is a lesson in and of itself for you beginner day traders. There WILL BE times in your journey where things get bumpy. It does not mean you are doing anything wrong or that your day trading strategy is broken, it just means the stock market can be a crazy place at times. You just need to stay focused on the dynamics of trading and trade management that matter most so you can survive during these times. Here's the good news though! While survival is needed at times, it sets you up to be able to thrive in your trades too! I was happy to capture this trade on video as it illustrates exactly that. After quite a period of "suvival", all it took was one single trade to wipe away all of the survival period and put me nicely back into the green! Check it out here!

    Damn this was a lucky trade. Please do not try to emulate for newbies. Look at how AFRM traded after that day. It never got below. Please please please if clay did this on any day after that, it'd be disastrous! I'm pretty sure there are days where you lose a lot by doing this. If not show us your P&L for the past few months

    Unclear about your risk here. Seems like you were willing to be down almost 4k at one point to capture around 2.5k? You were right so I guess that's all that matters in the end? Thanks for the videos- I enjoy watching and playing along in my head 👍

      Agree with this guy... Risk management that you shown here dont make sense. Maybe on your future videos.. When you enter a trade. Mention your possible stop/target as well..

    • @kalebjackson7924
      @kalebjackson7924 2 года назад +2

      I think he's got a target of how much he's cool with making in a day, I agree looking at a 4k loss then being happy with 2.5k profit is a little backwards but overall his trades are worth massive amounts of money so maybe he's okay with losing 4k because of the size of the trade. Not sure his exact risk analysis process, but it seems to work for him.

      What you’re saying doesn’t make since at all given we don’t know initial stop loss and profit target. Perhaps it was initially 2 to 1 even but because the way the market traded he decided to take profit at 2.5k. Despite whatever simplistic impression that RUclips videos may leave you with, in real life risk management is a fluid process and views often change mid trade.

    How do you decide if you want to add more to a losing trade and hope it'll change direction to head in your favor, or to exit while the loss is still small? (Obviously adding to the position worked in your favor today, but that's hindsight....it could've kept going up as well, and with 1500 shares the loss would've been a lot greater than just 500 shares)

    • @sebasocampo9652
      @sebasocampo9652 2 года назад +7

      Never ever add more shares to a losing trade, never.

    • @itssoccer69
      @itssoccer69 2 года назад +3

      Like the other guy said never ever add to a losing trade especially if you’re a beginner. Clay has years of experience but I would say what he did in the video is a bad habit to build on. I’m not knocking the guy because these videos are super helpful. But adding to a losing trade is dangerous. More over if this was me in the trade I would’ve held my starter till it broke past 112 because 112 was a clear point of resistance I’m sure clay noticed that thus why he kept holding for so long. He was fortunate but I’m sure his years of experience also helped him kinda lick out of this one. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this in a strategy.

    • @MoBeigi
      @MoBeigi 2 года назад +3

      Adding to a losing position is fine if its part of your strategy. If you never add or average down a position you limit yourself from making profit. Its all about the setup and how confident you feel. Never add to a losing position you are no longer confident in is better advice.
      Also Clay's strategy is heavily based on averaging down. He almost does it in every situation he's in the red in a trade and still likes the setup. That's why he usually makes $500 profit or $2500 loss.

    • @midnitezan
      @midnitezan 2 года назад

      @@itssoccer69 What did you mean by this: " I would’ve held my starter till it broke past 112"? And yes, I don't add to a losing trade anymore since I've been badly burned by that in the past...There are times it worked out, but it happens a lot less compared to big losses. (to me, that is)

    Why not send the order to close the position before 108 was reached instead of right when the price hits 108? Honest question, coming from a place of ignorance here.

    Any noobs watching, this is not a good trade. It was a lucky one. He had the direction right but entered too early. Should always wait for confirmation, these stocks that open gap down usually pop up to attempt a gap close before dropping. Correct entry would be a break below $108.00 or wait for a rally and failure at around $116 range. Congrats on the win but you need to win doing the right things not by luck or default.

      Lol, Clay is a very experienced intraday trader, with proven results and you come here and try to lecture him with a basic TA dogma of "gaps always close" like thats on basic TA courses, second class or something. Sometimes that rule fulfills but not necessarily in a mater of 15 minutes. Sometimes gaps takes days or weeks to close and sometimes they dont close at all. You sound like someone telling michael jordan how to score a 3 pointer. Theres a whole world beyond basic technical analysis my friend

    • @claytrader
      @claytrader  2 года назад +1

      @@RanulfoKnox "gaps always close" would imply there is a guarantee in the market... so yes, anyone saying that displays a total lack of understanding of basic principles.

    You did not explain whatsoever why you took this trade, and also you didn't explain why you were so fixed on that $108 price level. Without any explanation about your technical analysis, this trade just looked like a huge gamble. With this type of video, you are just encouraging beginner traders to be reckless and to lose money by just following their guts.

    • @bearish7081
      @bearish7081 2 года назад

      If they are dumb enough to just use their gut to trade then they deserve to lose money. And that will be a lesson learned. No one starts trading and has success right away, and you can't expect people to tell you exactly how to think. He doesn't owe you anything in this free video. He obviously offers a service and wants people to join to learn more about his thought process.
