Cystoscopy is horrible and painful! Every urologists' who thinks its not needs to have it done!
You are right - cystoscopy is not painless. To help with this, we use numbing gel and try to be quick about the procedure but still comprehensive. Some patients benefit from using an anti-anxiety pill and/or laughing gas. In my experience, 100% of patients don't like it, but over 99% are able to tolerate it and many tell me the cystoscopy was easier than they imagined.
It was the worst pain in my life. Passing kidney stones wasn't even as bad as cystoscopy. This should only be done in the OR.
Thanks so much for this!
Great video-thank you Dr.Yao

What causes it
Thank you for the question. Please check the video starting at 2:40, which goes over the most common causes of blood in the urine.
Can "painful bladder syndrome " cause microscopic hematuria?
Painful bladder syndrome can be caused by a number of different disease entities, some of which can cause hematuria.
I am confused about the intermediate risk category. Are you saying that all women between 50 and 59 irrespective of whether they have hematuria or not should go for cystoscopy and ultrasound? I ask because you said people who have any of the following?
