11 years later and this is still the first one that popped up when I searched. That's what I get for being attached so S&W for so long and late to the party with Glock. Outstanding video sir. Very straight forward and resolved my issues. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for posting this.I've been shooting for over 50 years, but I just got my first Glock. All my other semi-auto pistols are Rugers, and they don't have the little locking tabs. It's amazing how you can find an answer to every little problem you run in to on yutube.I can't tell you how many times this resource has save me from throwing a gun or gun part, right through a wall.L.O.L. My son and I have done car repairs the same way.Knowledge is power.

Very helpful, thanks! On a brand new magazine, it is hard to open the first time. I used a pair of channel lock pliers to gently press the sides of the magazine (wrapped in a cloth to avoid scratches) which did the trick nicely.

Definitely not easy. Never could get it off. And i used a punch instead of a glock tool. But when pushing in on the tab i never could get my punch to go as far in the magazine as he did with the glock tool. I was only able to get the punch to go about an inch into the mag & that was it

I pushed the plate down before I realized I couldn't squeeze it enough to get it off. I had to use _two fucking metal paint scrapers and a shitload of force just to slide it off!_
      Fuck that, never again.

Okay, after 3 hours toiling along with probably 5 or 6 videos, I finally got it for my Glock 42. I thought I messed up the spring so bad that I would only be able to use 4 rounds LOL. It was only easy once I figured out the trick. Now that I've gotten it done, the trick that I would have told myself was first to push in, keep the spring down but put pressure on the plate to where it overrides the tabs and you can slide it out. This was the video that help me the most. A lot of videos said you had to squeeze or even use pliers. I'm glad I found that not necessary.

  • @TomAustin303

Thank you - The trick of forcing the locking plate all the way down past the spring is what did the trick!

Thanks for your video. I'm actually 50 and I've had my G22 Gen 2 since '91, but it came with non drop free mags, which are easy to remove the floor plates. I've since gotten drop frees and on the one I fiddled with, the other day, I couldn't get it off for the life of me. I wasn't pushing the floor plate down far enough, so thanks for the explanation. I'll fiddle with it tomorow. I have a couple of 2+ extenders that I wanted to install, so that's my reason for disassembly.

I was trying to follow the instructions in the Armorers manual I found on line and was having no luck. I was worried that I was going to ruin one of my magazines as I thought that I was pushing too hard with my Glock tool, and I thought that I had messed up the spring, and I was about to try to pry the base plate off with a screw driver, and I thought about RUclips. I found your video and...piece of cake! Thank you a million times for such a clear, concise video that saved the day!

Super Thx! I thought I had totally rendered it useless b4 watching your video. I messed it up so bad whereas the top follower I plunged it in, the bottom tab I plunged it in. I was ready to trash it and buy another UNTIL I saw your video. Other videos didn't go into great detail like you. I too had issues with the side tabs at first. Persistence paid off. I've struggled with Glock mags for years until I watched this video. Some of it is grip strength, most of it is technique. For folks that struggle with common Glock tasks like disassembling the magazine, removing the slide, or even pulling the slide to the rear (you may laugh but my 13 year old nephew who is mostly fit couldn't do it on my G19) work on your grip strength. Get one of the finger and grip exercisers and use it while watching RUclips videos. It will not only improve your pistol grip, but simple armorer tasks as well.

When i watched the RUclips video "Glock Magazine Disassembly (In HD)" by "Humans4Targets" i realized the trick is to push the punch far enough into the hole to cause the floor plate to move down into the mag alongside the spring. Then a little side pressure can be applied and the cover plate moves off more easily. Ended a lot of frustration for me. I hope it helps. I heard you say on one of your videos that you were having the same problem. P.S.: I enjoy your videos very much. Tom Corbett (retired teacher from Conn.)

I just got done reading a bunch of comments saying this method does not work. This is my first time ever stripping a magazine, and using this method i was able to get a magazine stripped, cleaned and re-assembled in about 4 minutes. I found i had to apply more torgue with the punch when pinching the sides in, but that was all it took.

This is not as easy as it looks or seems; however, after reviewing these videos, the only way to really get the base plate off is to either use a punch or a small screwdriver to push the floor plate in. Then using the tool (screwdriver or punch) pry the base plat forward (towards the rounded end). It will snap past the tabs. Forget trying to squeeze the magazine. Then keep your thumb over the spring as you remove the base plate to keep it from springing across the room. You might want to wear gloves or wrap the magazine in a wash cloth because my palm and thumbs are pretty sore.

If you're still looking for a solution, what I do now is I use an allen key to push the button down and a miniature c-clamp to compress the sides of the magazine. Works a charm, though the button is a bit banged up from using the allen key. Make sure you don't tighten the clamp too much and put a cloth or something in between before tightening or it'll leave marks.

Squeezing the sides of the mag does not work. I thought my fingers were not strong enough, so I put the mag in a vice and squeezed the sides so good, they almost cracked - still the side lips won't budge. Torqueing the base plate with a punch real good is the only way but I bent the plastic around the hole of the baseplate.

    • @gr0ove
      @gr0ove 7 лет назад +1

I agree. I was so focusing on squeezing I wasn't applying enough pressure towards just sliding the bottom out. After I took the bottom off, I tried squeezing the clip and it has no play in it, not even the slightest. It's hard plastic so it doesn't move without cracking. The glock mag tool doesn't require sqeezing either, just press the tab away from the hole and pull apart hard.

Alex Povolotski Just get a oil filter wrench with south grip ends,& push the pin down while applying pressure at notches with soft grips. No problem. Even a girl knows this.

thanks for posting this video and care about us beginners and those of us (me included) who can take as much knowledge as possible from all veterans in the world of firearms. Not everyone has been around them as long as others nor knows all their ins and out, so once again I'm deeply appreciated. keep making great videos man thank you.
