You're absolutely right that they often get overlooked, yet they play a crucial role in the reliability of our firearms. Proper maintenance of magazines can go a long way in preventing malfunctions and ensuring smooth feeding.
Hold your hand over the base plate when removing unless you want mag guts scattered across the room. 💥😂
Was having issues with a few TX22- 16 rounders. I found out about dry lube from a gunsmith.
If you can't find the Otis dry lube,
DuPont makes a dry film lubricant.
Absolutely worked for me, a much more enjoyable time at the range.
Thanks Sootch!
Thank you👍. My magazines are very dirty. I tried the Dry Lube last night, but it made the pictures fade, especially the centerfold, and Miss June was smokin’ hot !! 😉
My hustler mag won't fit in my Glock
😂😄
You guys are killing me.
I use a “magazine brush” which is another name for a large bottle brush to brush my mags out! Great video!
For double stack pistol magazines I use a 12 gauge cotton bore mop with some alcohol and it fits perfectly in the magazine.
You've provided some really good information in this video. Thank you.
Thanks Audie!
@@sootch00 I have to agree here!!!! I absolutely had no idea about the magazines being the most neglected, when it comes to basic maintenance and cleaning to assure reliability and proper function.
Learn something new on this one, never heard of the tool to remove the base plates. Got to get one of those. Good video Don!
You’re supposed to clean them!!!??
😂 me too
Aren’t they one time use!! I’d use them, throw them out and then buy new ones 😂😂😂😂
We did most of our training and shooting on a range with DG. Yes, magazines get dirty! Cleaning our new Glock magazines was part of our "final exam" in our transition training.
🤣
Yup but 100% they get neglected!!! Guess it's time to get out the punch set.
I'm always trying to learn as much as i can. I really appreciate this video. I never clean my mags. I will now. Thanks again Don.
Don is awesome!!! Love his vids! Also….don’t believe everything you hear from Beretta9mmUSA. They are far from “honest”. There’s always two sides. Take a look at what I’ve made about their honesty.
Great stuff Sootch! Thanks
I get some CLP on a cleaning patch and use it on the springs after using a dry brush. Just leave a faint coat of lubricant. The Dry Lube spray looks easier.
Bless us with your wisdom Sir
Thanks for the run down.
Bought a few heavily used Gallil mags recently that are absolutely filthy. So I'm going to need ALOT of cleaner to tear those down and scrub them clean.
The only magazines I've ever cleaned were my 10/22 BX - 25 mags. I cleaned those becsuse they started having probs sticking the last few rounds. I guess i better start cleaning my other mags before I have a problem.
Sootch thank you 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸hope you and your family had a great 4th of July 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸be well be safe out there
Excellent video. I always clean my mags, but learned a few new things here today, thank you. Will pick up some Drilube...😊
Thanks Brother!
Really really interesting!
Really digging these cleaning/maint videos..
Thanks CJ!
Very helpful, thanks 😊
Glad it was helpful Ira!
I put a +0 pinky extension on 1 of my p365XL mags to see how I liked that particular brand.before getting more (a little pricey, hard anodized aluminum. Good stuff but going with the same brand but a new one they made that’s a little shorter. )or different brand ect. Have a cpl more im going to try too .Pearce have always been good for most of my guns…hard to beat)Was the 1st time I’d opened the mag.Was glad I did…had substantial amount of scale looking rust near the bottom of both. Cleaned up pretty good though. I thought penetrating oil too.all I had handy was some PB blaster rusted bolt stuff. Put a good amount on where the rust had been on both & as light coverage as possible up in there. Sit a few minutes and wiped off ,switched to clean cloth twice, they were clean & dry. Have checked since, still looks good. Love Otis. Will be getting some of that stuff.good video. The 20 rd back pocket AR mags are nice. The older US issue is my personal fave .good stuff. I ll think about it but every 3 uses. Your 3 uses & my 3 uses are different. But I’ll keep everything clean. I used to run on the dry side, then went through a sloppy wet stage .Early days & know my guns better now. A little dab on right spots will do .just started thinking about going ultrasonic every now and then. A long one. But have some figuring to do. Will be good for cleaning other stuff if I wind up using it with guns or not. Need. ?.?.No. But worth experimenting. Thx again.
Great video. Very helpful..
Thanks Frederic!
Well if you're having a failure to feed issue not only check your mag but check your slide, because if it's having feeding issues there could also be dirt or debris inside the gun causing mishaps.
And if you're trying to "clean your clip" just unscrew the bottom of the magazine and wipe down your spring and make sure there's no debris inside the magazine. If this doesn't fix your problem then you probably need a new spring/mag. (Hope this helps)
Thank you for the awesome video brother I have an Otis gun cleaning kit it's about a 200 dollar kit
Thanks for stopping by Cody!
Hey,,,I'll bet that the Ottis Dry Lube would be good for padlocks, too.
I used to run my issue M16A2 mags through the dishwasher. Then a very very tiny bit of lube on the springs
I have been using dollar store shoe spunges on all my duty guns and mags for over 20 years to wipe down the outside of them between real cleaning. 2 for a dollar and they last a long time. Wipes away sweat and dirt in a second.
Sootch is the prepper uncle I wish I had. 😢😮
Good video
I have never cleaned my mags... Good to know. I'll have to do that soon. Lol
I have heard that drum magazines sometimes use graphene lube, basically carbon that is potentially toxic
Gotta love those assault springs...boing!
Hi, met your Dad outside Aldi today! He's a very proud Pop. =A really high compliment... Then I ran into your wife and Mom inside Ingles. Your dad could not recall your y/T login but your name(s) address interest etc. made it possible. A VERY nice family. Take good care of one another. BTW, are AK mags cleanable? -Never heard that before... (;^)
You serious?!
@@veryadequateconsultation4952 Would be a very random remark to make were it not serious, huh?
Hi Alfred, now that's funny. My wife was close by as well. Aldi, Ingles every Tuesday! lol! Thanks for saying hello.
BTW, he can't remember what key goes to what lock so I'm not worried about him giving out sensitive info! 😁 If you asked, he would have invited you down to the house! Thanks Brother~
@@sootch00 Glad you weren't "weird-ed out" by me finding you. I'm just a harmless old fart who admires the love shown by a good son.
I have a Smith & Western 380 EZ the slide on the mag anyway you could do a video on cleaning those thanks
Thanks for stopping by William!
Well technically it's my wife's everyday mine's just a little bit bigger lol G19
Ok, Im confused. How does the dry brush and rag
" clean " anything "?
I use the dry lube for many applications so I'll definitely do the same for my mags.
Its the cleaning part I'm not getting?
Thanks
Debris in your magazine will most likely be dirt, carbon dust, pocket lint, etc. We're not talking baked on Mac & Cheese in there so a dry brush and rag should do.
Hello sootchoo 💪
Hi Dakuo!
How do u clean a mag with 10 round pin installed????
Feed lips. ! I can’t get past that. They do need to be cleaned too. 😎
Dishwasher with CLP
Where do you get Otis from
Alabama 😂
Not sure the point of lubricating the spring, it’s not wearing against other metal but just my $0.02
Don did you tell your wife you used her tooth brush to make a video lol great tips thanks TH in Sc
Not after I caught her cleaning the toilet with my toothbrush! 🤣 Thanks Terry!
@@sootch00 oh my you guys just mean to one another you know she is the gremlin in your gun safe have a blessed day Don
So I’m not supposed to use the dishwasher, well my wife will appreciate that.
Real men put em in a pile and mark/clean em with a good long piss after a few tall boys.. ..all seriousness while most folks dislike it (i musta got lucky) one of my best rifles is a lowly ruger scout, and ive noticed the mags like collecting debris during hunting hikes, which ud think for 50-80 ea (the metals) that thatd be an issue solved, but mag cleaning has since become part of my semi regular maintenance because of that.
Av a gud'n Gary
I don't think you need to clean the magazine from a springfield armory x d sub compact they're stainless steel I just wish there was a easy way to break a springfield magazine in their the most hateful magazine to load when their new I've ever seen
Proper cleaning method is WD40 + pushing a cloth through the mag bodies a couple of times.
Clean after dropping to dirt
It’s like whipping your ass- make sure you do it or you’ll have to deal with some shit later
That ain't going to help with those "100% they're not human,' Witness details alleged alien encounter in Las Vegas"
Where are the pants?
Important to note that these are “low capacity” magazines. Anything less than 100 rds is "low capacity”
You're using about 70% more dry lube than what's necessary. The springs just need a single pass on each side.... NEVER soak them!
Also, a dry brush will never remove carbon that's formed on the plastic follower. You need a dedicated solvent, NOT a CLP. Strictly solvent only!
One last thing.... It's completely unnecessary to use ANY kind of lubricant or clp on the outside of metal magazines.... They're aluminum and won't rust.
👍😎🍺🍩🔧
I never clean my mags...I only wipe them off 😅
Unless you shoot a thousand rounds monthly I don’t see the point
🦝
Help yourself - stop DROPPING mags on the ground when reloading.
It's not tacti-cool to clean your mags. Just get new ones.
I'll just stick with my "HOPPE's #9". It's worked for a lotta years now.
