NJ Transit CNJ GP40PH-2 4109 departing Newark Penn Station on Raritan Valley Train 5441

On July 20, NJ Transit's "Central Railroad of New Jersey" GP40PH-2 heritage unit 4109 was on the Raritan Valley Line Train 5441 to commemorate the last CNJ engineer on the NJ Transit engineer roster. Here it is seen departing Newark Penn Station on a hazy summer evening bound for Raritan. ALP-45DP No. 4525 trails with 5 Multilevels. The retiring engineer has been on the railroad for 53 years and this would be his final run. Thank you for your service and happy retirement!

When I was a boy, in the very early 1960's, my best friend and I used to hang out right at the edge of the platform here, where you show the photographer taking photos of this historic train and its engineer. There was a guardrail right at the edge, [0:38 seconds of your video] it was cast iron pipe, painted black and it was the width of the platform edge and about 36" high. BTW, we used to wait for our favorite engineer, Bill, who used to swing by almost every Saturday afternoon, going to Washington, D.C. He always used to be at the helm of our favorite engine, the Pennsylvania Railroad's GG-1. Absolutely beautiful electric engine!! Look it up if you're not familiar with it.
I'll bet, in your next video at Newark's Penn Station, if you go to the edge of this platform, you'll probably see the holes in the concrete platform, where this guardrail used to be. I've just subscribed to your videos and I just can't wait...

I guess the 2nd Locomotive is used for PTC related stuff and possibly to power the train?

Not PTC related. The 45 was there to supply power to the train and to haul it since 4109 isn’t strong enough to haul it on its own.
