  • For a few days around the July 4th holiday, New Jersey Transit assigned their Central Railroad of New Jersey heritage #4109 to the Bay Head Shuttle, which operates on former New York & Long Branch trackage, which the CNJ had trackage rights over. This was the first time the 4109 has ventured down this way since being repainted into CNJ colors in 2019, so I figured I'd spend a day down shooting the shuttles in the iconic Jersey Shore area trying to shoot the royal blue GP40P as many times as possible. The Bay Head Shuttle provides diesel service between Long Branch and Bay Head where there is no catenary for electrics, and usually consists of three sets being rotated throughout the day. On this day I lucked out, and the CNJ was being used on one of the three sets. Watch as NJT trains traverse through the bustling downtowns, and beautiful estuaries of the Jersey Shore, over the 112 year old Brielle Draw, and through Bay Head and Long Branch Yard's. Enjoy!
