    Thousands of would-be migrants continue to make the perilous journey to the United States. They come from El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala or Mexico, turning their backs on poverty and gang violence. Many decide to climb on a freight train which crosses Mexico from south to north. The journey saves them time and money, but it's fraught with danger. Our colleagues from France 2 television went on board. They bring us this report, with FRANCE 24's Claire Rush.

    • @Trustfuleevees
      @Trustfuleevees 4 года назад +19

      That’s a tall ask is the issue. The issues are abundant and severe. The governments of many Central American nations have dealt with conflicts, genocides, and coups since they gained independence. For the banana republics, like Guatemala and Nicaragua, they were oppressed by the brutal rule of a company for decades until the US intervened and attempted to install a better government. However, the US’s attempts were fruitless, and ended up making things worse. Genocide in Guatemala, and gang violence in Nicaragua are just two of the results of US intervention. And so many of these countries have very few jobs and they bring in very little money, and their exports are limited. Poverty is rife, and in the counties where the gang violence and drug trade are particularly bad, families have often no choice but to flea, and the governments either don’t have the funds to aid them or don’t have the ability to aid them in some other way. These people are truly refugees, and they seek a better life north in Mexico and the United States. In fact, many of them don’t have access to the resources necessary to legally immigrate to Mexico or the US. That said, the majority of these illegal immigrants still pay taxes and aid our economy in ways that mean that better paying and more stable jobs are available to people in the area they are moving to. This is why I believe we need to reform our immigration service, so that its more efficient to immigrate legally.

    Trains are a great idea. Easier to transport migrants to sanctuary cities where they can be cared for. I'm not suggesting freight trains, they could board passenger trains, more humanitarian. Chicago and NYC will step up to help these poor souls. 😊

    If the Judge in the US wants to resume Trump's migration policy, then the US & UN should be providing security to the Migrants
