This is where I would usually ask "who should I do next?" but this video was a specific request from a subscriber and not who I am actually doing next. Look out for Taystee's video, coming soon!
keep up the good work!
Please give recommendations on my next video. First recommendation wins!
Omg thank you so much for my request 💕😍
@@turtlekid09 Yeah. Keep up the good work. I'll keep an eye out for Your next one. I never win anything but You never know. lol
I don't understand, she wasn't even ugly.
She looked "diseased"
if she took care of her skin and dressed in clothes that fitted her figure she woul be nice looking. not superstar but an average pretty girl. smart is the new sexy
Chinese people have different standards
@@creati_949 I think it has more to do with the "Hollywood" ugly standard.
Sid Vicious acne has nothing to do with taking care of your skin. It’s hormonal.
She’s actually gorgeous...
Acne isn’t that gorgeous
Zip ew you’re gross
Kate Crimson every country has their standard of beauty. Acne isn’t seen as “attractive”. She had a skin condition clearly which distracted/camouflaged her beauty but not that ugly where she would draw attention... it made her look invisible.
peachy queen wait they’re gross because they don’t find acne attractive?
Honestly
It was so messed up how she was treated, I really liked Chang
I wanted Mei to request that Fu take her out instead of bringing that nasty man to her
I love quiet introvert badasses, i love her
Such an underrated character, I wish we got to see more of her on the show.
Her backstory is honestly so badass😔👌🏼
Facts
Loved it
I haven't actually watched the show but honestly the flashbacks seem more interesting than the present. 😂
A minute in and I'm freaking out over how they're wearing shoes indoors. Bruh are you sure you're asian??
Isn't it just the Japanese that don't wear shoes indoors? I think they are chinese.
@@noobmaster-nq6fk Koreans don't wear shoes indoors, Indian people don't either, Chinese people don't either, most Asians don't.
noobmaster 69 Almost all of Asians dont
@@babydekjr3149 It's not even sure it's a race thing. Canadians don't wear shoes in the house. Every time I watch American movies/TV I'm grossed out.
CatKatMua I don’t believe it’s a nationality or race thing. I’m American, and if I even wear my shoes in the house, I get smacked.
The younger Chang really nailed her intense stare!!
Now I see why none of the other inmates ever tried Chang.
She wasn't even ugly
Get her some acne cream and boom
check out pics of the actress when she's not in acne makeup, she's gorgeous. Teresa Ting.
"She's ugly"
*well you’re not exactly in the good looks department, sir*
You would be surprised how many people think that way
@@Shortlady82 especially in Asian countries :
She barely spoke but when she did it was comical I looked forward to seeing and hearing her
To all of the people saying that the Mandarin spoken sounds strange: you're right, it's not perfect. There could have been more practice made to make the actors sound more comfortable speaking northern style Mandarin. I am an American Born Chinese (ABC) and I immediately noticed the accents too.
However, I know they were trying their hardest. Could the accents been better? OF COURSE! I'm sure many native Spanish, Russian, Dutch and German speakers who watched OITNB and saw the characters speak those languages also have criticism about pronunciation, accents, words, etc. I think these actors would have benefited from a whole Mandarin language research team, Mandarin language coaching, collaboration with the writers, a visit to China, etc.
But what can you expect from an American TV show? It could be better, YES! But at least they featured Mei Chang's back story for everyone to learn about. It can always be better. But please, have mercy on those of us who are still learning how to speak Chinese, even though we grew up in Chinese families.
It's hard to be Chinese American -- your Chinese language may not sound 100% authentic, even when you're trying your hardest. Chinese people don't see you as 100% Chinese, and American people don't see you as one of them either. And then people judge you on your English. I really want to be 100% comfortable in both English and Chinese one day. I have learned to accept other people's judgment while I am on my journey.
Best of luck to you, scareglare!
I come from a Cantonese-speaking family. It sounds like Mandarin to me with some words that sounded a bit off.
Poussey's German is almost unintelligible. It sounds like someone was off screen reading the lines which she immediately mimicked back without and practice. Tbh without the subtitles in those scenes, I think I would have understood less than half.
you could give me a lifetime to learn a language and i wouldnt get the accent right (biggest criticism from my spanish instructors tbh)
no one besides the ppl of the same language get to say shit abt how actors' accents are. or anybody's. its not easy.
@@someidiot420 you're totally right, it's not easy at all! At least you made an effort to get the accent right with Spanish ^^ and there's a ton of accents in Spanish anyway
I see why she got into doing that illegal stuff, it seems like that was the only place people respected her. ❤
I love this!!! I wish oitnb wud just start a new show delving into their lives before they got arrested
I mean they showed almost all main characters flashbacks throughout the seasons
I think Carol and Barb need their own spin off. Lol we deserve to see how this freak show started, because we all know it started waaay before they were supposed to move.😆
RIGHT I AGREE THE SHOW WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY LAST LONGER
This is probably 1 of my favourite character storylines I'm glad Chang got her comeuppance on that rude bastard who turned her down and insulted her lol
I was born and raised in mainland China and these American Chinese actors/actresses all have this (A bit weird to me) "American" Chinese accent that you cannot find in China. I guess hiring American citizens instead of authentic Chinese is always easier
Some of the actors sound Taiwanese
“Authentic Chinese” what’s that supposed to mean?
At the end of the day, they’re still of Chinese descent, doesn’t make them any less because they’re American citizens.
You should be happy Asians in general are getting roles. They’re sadly not represented here in the North American market.
DesignzRUs1 Hello. The setting in this scene is that Chang is from Hebei, China so by nature she is supposed to sound like a native Chinese speaker. It has nothing to do with them being Americans or not. I was merely focusing on the plot
I think it's a bit too harsh to ask them to cast all Chinese actors who are from Mainland China in a TV show when there are plenty of East Asian actors in American are waiting for this role.
However, in reality, for probably ALL Chinese movies, they will just cast a random white person (could be from Russia can't even speak german but mandarin) to act as a German when this product is made in China.
DesignzRUs1 authentic Chinese.. meaning people actually FROM China. Not people who simply are Asian and speaking a language just because they’re hired to.... An American learning Russian will never sound the same as a native Russian speaking Russian. Vice versa... the concept really isn’t that hard to understand. The same way “Red” isn’t actually Russian... and “Vee” was clearly an islander not an African American NY’er .
I wish she was still in the last 2 seasons in B-block (Florida)
Link The Fox wasnt she?
P. Eräreikä no she escaped under The riot and came into prison again in last season
Josephine saarikivi Actually she got caught by the ICE and send to their centre not prison.
She was in the immigration block.
@@mmurph oh ok I never saw where she went people online implied that she died
The most interesting character that we didn’t get to know enough about :(
She is literally a model tho
Lmao I love the Michael Jackson reference in the van
7:02 Damn, look at Mei sitting like a badass. 😎🚬
I always loved her storyline!!
Chang was so underrated
The guy who plays Fu is gorgeous af.
Please continue your backstory videos. They're great and you deserve a lot more subscribers for your work!
This youtuber didn't put any work into these videos lol. They're just taken from the TV show.
@@cloudambientI mean there was SOME WORK. She had to get the clips, figure out their order and place them in order.
Best character of the show no cap
Chang was hilarious, one of my favorite characters.
Her name is Teresa Ting and she's actually drop dead gorgeous!!!
This is why I always liked her!!
She wasn’t ugly. She just needed a makeover
Why does she need a makeover? If she is not ugly in your eyes, why do you feel the need to change who she is in apperance?
@@Noa......
Oh , touché
She’s already beautiful she doesn’t need a makeover
the actress' name is Teresa Ting, she's actually STUNNING. They made her face look beat with makeup and put her in drab clothing to tone down her beauty. Google her pics - Teresa Ting
@@cloudambient woosh.
Chang was my favorite character lmfao. I loved them all, but I swear almost every scene she came up in she says some shit that cracks me up. Like when everyone is swimming in the lake and instead of warning people that she thinks it gave Rosa cancer, she would rather take a long hot shower & use deep conditioner lmfaooo.
Looking at her story. I know it gets much worse. They just never showed it. She wasn’t ugly.
I mean, I like her character and I do feel bad for her, but I also feel she deserves to be incarcerated because she had a man gruesomely killed because he rejected her and called her ugly. And that's not okay
it was deserved bro
Sounds like a Foreign Independent Film.
She’s pretty tho???
Poor Mei. She liked Fu but he had to go with an American girl who scared him.
Dude she was the hair dresser from Roseanne! So much nostalgia in this show!
Yes!!!! Tysm
chang wasnt even ugly, she just had acne bruh
I feel terrible that so much wildlife is being killed or stolen for these purposes.
i love these videos!! thank u so much
OITNB’s writers idea of being a horrendously ugly and unlovable monster is just having acne. LOL.
The East has VERY high standards for beauty, though.. :c
Not all heroes....thank you!
their chinese is actually so bad
Ikr
Not the worst I’ve seen, still better than fresh off the boat
Lol I don’t speak Chinese n it sounded off
I had no clue
Yeah I noticed just like they do with arabic
I love Chang so much
Also, Mei is "beautiful/pretty" in chinese
And also means younger sister
Could you do Anita and Angie history please.
Also does anyone know why black Cindy is called Cindy when most of the other inmates are called by their surnames.
There was a white Cindy in minimum, but she barely had screen time if any.
Teresa Dedos ok thanks.
The writers never created any backstory scenes for Angie.
Im so upset. I really wanted Gina, Angie, and Yoga Jones' back story.:( :( I wanted Gina because shes one of ny fav characters even if she doesn't have alot of screen time, Angie because I would think her backstory would be either hilarious and/or interesting and Yoga Jones bc she deserves a back story for the show!
Shannon Huntley yoga Jones had a backstory that was very sad. It’s explained to Watson in season 1. Do you mean flashbacks to when Yoga Jones was young?
“Ni kan” means “hey look” and then after that she says “ hey these are ping pong balls” then after that he says something about “damn Koreans”
Yeah. we have captions lol. Only the first part was necessary
Thank you for the translations.
She is gorgeous like tf
a little Noxzema and some TLC she would have been a Goddess
she's a goddess in real life, the actress is named Teresa Ting, she's STUNNING. They put her in makeup to make her face look beat.
@@cloudambient you sure? I hear all actors have to look exactly like the role they are playing
@@MoeLykit dude tv isn't real lol. first and foremost has to be a good actor/actress. professional Hair/Makeup/Wardrobe departments for TV and Broadway can make anyone look like anything.
@@cloudambient sarcasm is real
We love a Queenpin. I enjoy seeing female characters rise above the station society made for them, it's the ambition and drive that makes me love them.
Some Cultures are So cruel.
Even though this is just a show.
Not done cultures. Some people
@@mominansare948 bullshit
@Momin Ansare
Bullshit
Deal with it
Is there a culture that is not cruel in some way?
can they find someone who can really speak Chinese???? They sound so weird...
It would probably be hard to find a Chinese immigrant to be an actor in Hollywood, they casted the choices they were presented in their casting calls I. E Chinese or Taiwanese Americans? Also you should hear the fake African accent they do for African acting, it's atrocious. They never get any accent right, because it's all casting not authentic people that were born and raised in the prospective country
Agreed. I have tons of friends who can speak better Mandarin than this.
No, they don't.
@@Scofields1828 everybody is Wakanda in those African accents 😂😂😂
@@Scofields1828 they also need someone who looks like Chang so
Poor Mei!! She was so pretty!!!
Even though this is a fictional show, much of this shit is true. I live in New York and many Chinese snuggle in all of this disgusting shit.
Poor rhinos and other wildlife.
It just realized that store they’re in,my family has business connected to that store
She's such a badass
I love chang shes beautiful inside n out ❤
She was treated so horribly 😭
It's so fucked up that they're literally calling her a product 😭
bruh first of all she is fucking gorgeous, second I knew chang was badass
Um Asian people don’t wear shoes inside.
They wear slippers. But as a disclaimer, there ARE Asians who wear shoes inside, but those are usually very rich ones who have maids who clean their floors at all times.
@@laobok no u still don’t wear shoes inside it’s a rule
This took a sudden dark turn..
1:30 he says “王八蛋”, which is an insult they translate as "son-of-a-bitch", but the literal meaning is "turtle egg"... foreshadowing for 5:44? 🤔
Why did she specifically say the gallbladder?
It’s referencing how the dealers were focusing on animal parts.
If only the Asian standard, particularly Korean and Japanese (even though she’s Chinese) nowadays wasn’t so superficial about appearance. She wasn’t even ugly, it’s acne, many people suffer from it
In what Ive seen, Chinese standards are absolutely brutal, not even korea is as bad, i saw posts on their Chinese version of instagram where the weight standards were 30-40 kg for almost all heights, even the way the women there photoshop themselves just looks so unrealistic and fake…
omg i googled who the actress was and holy fuck, theres no way they're the same person. (the actress is Teresa Ting)
She's gorgeous just w non clear skin
She’s from HeBei, I’m from Beijing, what are they speaking??
MATERIAL GIRLLL
SO COOL!!
Sea cucumbers from New Zealand? Really?
mei is so cool
LMAO at the end
why it seems they have a little hard time spelling
What happened to Chang did they find her in season 6?
I’m this was 4Mo but yes they did
Change is actually a girl boss ?
She saved his life to kill him??
no the person that got killed was the one who rejected her in the beginning. The one who she saved helped her do it.
She saved the guys life so he said he owed her a favour, so then she wanted revenge on the guy that rejected her
