Why is one of The Real Housewives of New Jersey stars sure that the showrunners stole a part of her biography? If you are the show's fan, you definitely should know that the series is based on Piper Kerman's memoir, who back in 1998 was sentenced to 15 months of imprisonment.
The role of fragile and lost Piper Chapman could have been portrayed by... Laura Prepon! But the show's producer Jenji Kohan has quickly refused this option. So Taylor Schilling got the role of Piper and Laura Prepon got the role of Alex Vause.
Kate Mulgrew gets into the role of Galina Reznikov so deeply that she speaks with an accent all the time she's on the set, even behind the cameras. The role of Sophia Bursett before the surgery was played by Laverne Cox twin brother, musician M.Lamar.
The role of young Dayanata in the backstory of the character was portrayed by the actress's daughter, Dascha Polanco, 15-year-old Dasany Kristal Gonzalez. Before getting into Orange is the new black as Suzanne Warren (Crazy Eyes), the actress Uzo Aduba landed no big roles because of her unusual appearance and wasn't very popular at the castings.

Forgot to add how the crew the writers and workers on oitnb didn’t want Laverne to go through being masculine again and I absolutely love how they cared about that and how Laverne’s brother played pre-transitioned Sophia

And Martha Stewart's name was even in Kerman's book. She was incarcerated around the time Stewart was convicted and there were rumors that she might've been assigned to the same prison. She wasn't but it was definitely part of the original story.

I have to say I'm super sad for Nicky.. when she said "could've been" about her muslim gf, it broke my heart. Also her closest friends, practically her family, ended up far from her-red and Lorna. But she then became red Jr, and that was a nice silver lining.

Lots of entertainment want a light skinned black woman and then she has a tooth gap (I have one) and it can be really off putting towards the people watching. Lots of teeth gap characters aren’t taken seriously and usually play the “child/jokester” role.
I don't think "unusual" had anything to do with her beauty. I think it has to do more with whether her looks matched the character they expected/created in their minds. Of course, she's as beautiful as beautiful can be

I have become so accustomed to Kate Mulgrew’s Russian accent, that the other day I watched an episode of Star Trek Voyager, and thought it was odd that Capt. Janeway didn’t have a Russian accent. 🤣

Okay here's the thing,
Piper is not all fragile and lost. She has a fire inside of her that gets her into bad and good situations. She's most definitely passionate, that's strength itself.
No one could've portrayed Piper better than Taylor Schilling. She's a brilliant actress.

The character is just so shallow and annoying and doesn't really add anything good, so why is she even the main character? I feel like they walked away from that in some seasons though, thank goodness.

I agree with you, she is definitely passionate and try to see the best in others. I love her character, others find her annoying and boring but thats bcoz they don't understand her character. Every character has a story to tell and that's what makes them unique; all character story was important including Piper. Ppl need to pay off piper character, without that character there wouldn't be a show. The story was about her and her life in prison and also Alex.

end of season4 made me cry and the final episode too😭😭i cried for the rest of the episode because of the beginning especially when the ambulance was leaving the person that died *don’t wanna spoil for others* turned around and followed it😭😭😭
I have just finished watching the final season! Wow! So many subjects in the last season! Great writing and acting! The previous 2 to 3 seasons were lack lustre and did not have the power driven dynamics of the first few seasons. After watching the last season I think they should extend it for a couple more. Or have a shoot off from it! But thanks great entertainment all! Xx

I have cried through quite a few seasons. Am watching the final season this week. I am going to miss this show. It's VERY well written and complicated and intriguing and surprising. I have loved every season.

Thank God They never cast Katie Holmes as Piper. Katie Holmes wouldn't believable in a Prison role. We needed Actresses that weren't overly Hollywood famous to play these roles to make them truly credible. Taylor Schilling was very believable because She wasn't over the top famous. This show wouldn't have done as well if Katie Holmes had taken the role.
