Thanks for this video! I've been transitioning for about 2 months and I'm ready to try some styles and give my half wigs a rest. This was very helpful. I'm going to try the twist out tonight. Hopefully I'll get good results or I'll be back in one of my half wigs. LOL!!!
This was so helpful I appreciate that its a trial and error situation and how you talk yourself through it. I like the way your twist out turned out on this video.
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person whose hair turned out flat when I 1st did the twists...although I must say your twisted hair looks a little bit fuller than mine. My hair looks thick when it's out but when I twisted it it looked flat so and because of the perm it was straight at the ends...too straight I used the flex rods overnight and simply love it...Thanks for posting this and for the tips you posted.
Glad that you shared your total experience. I was watching and hoping that you would roll the ends. I miss sponge rollers. LOL. I 've seen the ones with satin cover that look really comfortable and purposeful. I like the flexirods too. Your end results were very nice and full. I can see that you will catch that "itch" and chop girl! I'll stay tuned!
thanks for sharing this is exactly what my first twist out came out like and i was hurt lol. but i also have/had about 6-7 inches of relaxed ends and 6 inches of new happy natural hair. i'm about 1 year away from my planned BC (big face=big need for some length ;-)) so i am a fan of the twisted rod sets. but it's extremely helpful and encouraging to see the perfect videos and the ones that mirror results at home. oh and the end paper on the sponge roller itself is pure genius.
We are both on the same path. I am in my 3rd month of transitioning as well. My last relaxer was in March. I tried this style before. It came out nice. I would suggest to roll up the ends with some rollers. I had a lot of compliments on this style and it's great for retaining length.
@napturallycurly yeah that's what I mean--you keep trimming and taking off out of place hairs! LOL My best friend started this transition with me. she was at 1 year post relaxer in September. She had her hair in braids (with extensions), and the rear of her head all the relaxed hair fell off! She just went to cutting. Then she went to the salon. It looks so beautiful! It's a twa, b/c it seems like her natural hair didn't grow it's full potential for some odd reason. So I'm inspired
Im going throught the same thing with my hair i have been transitioning since march 2010. I have about 2 inches of perm ends so i do understand. i plan to get my ends chopped this weekend. Thanks for the post!!!
i have been transitioning for almost 6 months. I find that braid outs work better than twist outs and give more definition. I also rod the braid halfway up to give a curly look. good luck on ur transition:-)
Thank you for this.. i was going to twist my hair tonight.. and stay up all night.. but i have a LOT of permed hair left because my hair is long. YOU SAVED ME being up all night. I need to cut mine too!
I've been transitioning for nine months and I'm experiecing the same issues with twist outs. My ends are so stringy, but I know it's a learning process. Thanks for the inspiration!
Lol, I went through the same thing! Looks way better cut, nice and healthy, sometimes we gotta let them ends go! I didnt want to cut my hair either, I had a little tear drop before I did
Thanks for sharing your doing a great job, im 17 months post, and counting, I didnt like my twist until now at 17 months biggggg difference from when I did them at 12 months post. I braid my ends together and roll that helps with the straight ends I hope to cut off relaxed ends in another year
@napturallycurly I like your video I am like you I am transitioning from texturize hair to natural hair. not ready for the big chop just yet. I will try the 2 strand twist for the first time with my homemade shea butter, since my hair is still straight on the ends I will use jerry curl rods to roll them. a little nervous but I'm ready :)
thank you for posting this. I'm transitioning too and when I tried a twist out, I got the same result. The relaxed ends do need to go. But I'm not ready! lol
I know the feeling. I couldn't stand and can't stand those straight ends on my hair. I cut about an inch, while sitting in my office.LOl. I couldn't take it. I just haven't quite made up my mind to cut off the perm ends off and I been in transition for a year.. cute video.
Girl I haven't seen a sponge roller since the 80's. I know this video is old but my transitioning hair does better with a braid out than twists and its more fuller looking.
This is sooooooooooo funny! I just now saw this video, and all I've been doing is cutting my hair!!! I cant seem to stop myself. I'm afraid I will just chop b/c I am going to two strand twist my hair, and then I will really see the limp ends and it will be that much easier to chop!! Dear napturallycurly, what do I do?$%^&$ LOL!!
I had that SAME experience. I'm transitioning and the permed ends kill a twist out. I keep combing through mine. The only style I can look half way decent with is the perm rod set.
I have been growing my hair out for 7 months I'm hispanic and used to get relaxers every 3-6 months depending. My hair is naturally curly even with the relaxer. I have never tried doing a twist out (more of a wash and go but I find that my hair is just really poofy and I end up placing it a ponytail because it tangles so bad.) Do you think this style will work on my hair?
All you had to do was put perm rods at the ends.. the yellow would have worked for your twists. You need to research these things before you jump into transitioning like that now you chopped up your hair and still didn't get any better results.
shavonna wallace Awww girl, it's all good. It was a learning lesson in the end and I look back at this now 4 years ago and laugh at myself because I see how far I've come and what I've learned since then. I don't think the cut made much of a difference in my transition overall. Those ends were going to go anyway. We all make mistakes and some of us jump into things, while others are researchers. I'm more of a "jump into this kinda girl" with no regrets. :-) Oh well.... but thanks for bringing me back to this blast from the past vid. Memories!!
I appreciate your courageous in sharing what hair really look like when transitioning
I enjoyed your video. I like how you did a trial and error and not only did you learn new techniques, but you taught them to your viewers!!!

thank you so much for your videos. Coincidentally our stories are very similar and my length is the same as yours and i have thin ends too
Lol you are awesome! I glad that you kept trying. The end result came out nice.

sweet with the rolled ends.

I think your hair looks good

Thanks I'm transitioning

Now you got me thinking I might need to do a mini cut off myself just to get rid of SOME dead ends because my twist out was kind of limp too...
This is sooooooooooo funny! I just now saw this video, and all I've been doing is cutting my hair!!! I cant seem to stop myself. I'm afraid I will just chop b/c I am going to two strand twist my hair, and then I will really see the limp ends and it will be that much easier to chop!! try to do flat twist and use perm rods on the ends.
Thanks so much! This was very detailed and informative. New subbie here :)
@knobylob okae you don't have to be rude !!
@napturallycurly So you cutting too? LOL I really think you're right hun. Hmmm, who knows what my next video holds....
It looks fine, just roll the ends. Not bad at all.
@prettykirsten1 transitioning means that all of the hair is not yet natural, and some of it is relaxed.
hi i need help i am going natural
I like it! 2 thumbs up!
how do you get the ends not to come undone?
I have been growing my hair out for 7 months I'm hispanic and used to get relaxers every 3-6 months depending. My hair is naturally curly even with the relaxer. so you stopped perming your hair. an started washing an twisting????
is all that hair natural hair , or are the ends permed still ???
im transitioning :)
Smh at the girl below...I digress...love the style..gonna give it a whirl lol
MawMaw called and she wants those rollers back LOL
@prettykirsten1 that was rude? lol. that's called in depth explaining. stop being so overly sensitive.
You remind me of an alicia keys :)
@napturallycurly Yeah I replied back saying that I should've watched the whole video before posting that comment. LOL
it doesnt look bacd.thank you for showing this tho.helped me out...
You coud have just co-washed your hair before you did the twist out
Skip all the talking, go to results -------> 4:06

next time put rods on the ends instead of cuting your hair
u have a cute mouth.....your welcome!
