Hi Sister Nneka, I came across recently the story of the unfortunate death of British mom, Kaydell Brown. Who went to Turkey to obtain a BBL and never survived (RIP). Whats morbid about this whole story is the fact her body was returned to her family missing various internal organs. Sad but true.
Makeup is fun sometimes but it ruins your skin when you depend on it and the more often you wear it, the more you feel self conscious when you go without it. When women take care of their natural skin, we maintain our natural beauty in the long run. I don't wear much when I wear makeup, but my husband prefers me without it and men still hold doors for me, they still politely chat with me even when I don't have makeup on.
100% agree.. I’ve gone ALL my life and only had my face professionally beat ONCE.. I’ve always wanted to get into makeup but just lazy, LOL.. but I can see how wearing makeup everyday can create a “warped” image in your head of what you think you look like when not wearing it.
A woman definitely needs to be confident with her fresh face out of the shower...but at the same time I think it's fine to highlight what you have with a little bit of makeup which when done properly looks very natural...I really don't like this drag queen makeup trend that a lot of women are falling into!! 😮
Black women aren’t confused about femininity. Femininity is intrinsic, something that comes from within. Glamour is extrinsic, something that comes from the outside that you put onto or into your body. I think most women are aware of the difference, even if they can’t articulate it.
Women who are beautiful need very few synthetic extras and any man who sees a physically beautiful woman wants to take everything away, women who aren't attractive resort to synthetic extras but unfortunately it makes them look like a caricature. That being said you can buy beauty by having more good food, frequent health checks, good supplements, a dentist, good water, a beautiful home and emotional support, these have always increased a woman's beauty regardless of the era she lives in. And when a man proposes (again regardless of the era) he is subconsciously driven by evidence of these things.

To answer your question, yes, beauty can be bought. Beauty has been bought for generations and the percentage of women who are drop dead gorgeous without a once of enhancement (facial treatment, fillers, Botox, wig, surgery, permanent makeup tattoo) is very very low. Most women are average without all these things and there is absolutely nothing wrong with being average.
Fresh faced out the shower I look like I have two black eyes and I have zero eyelashes and eyebrows so yeah I look gender neutral, not very feminine. I hate alot of makeup and don’t wear eyelashes but I do feel put on light makeup highlights my feminine beauty.

This is something all races struggle with. White and Asian women have more $ than Black women and have been playing the beauty game with makeup and plastic surgery FAAAAR longer than us. We’re just over doing it and being waaaay too dramatic with our application. What I will say, tho, is I was taught to invest in self-care/skin care. I was never the makeup girl, partially because I received what was considered a lot of attention with no makeup at all. This is where the power of youth comes in and why girls need to be taught about it while young: The truth is the beauty hierarchy is based on REAL, NATURAL beauty. No makeup, no extreme extras. Bare faced. It’s a tough topic because we are judged by our looks, and the less stuff you (feel like you have to) add to be considered attractive means the higher you are on the natural beauty hierarchy. I don’t wear makeup unless I’m on a date/going out. My daily routine is moisturizers, lipstick/lipgloss and eyebrows. Maybe clear mascara. That still shows my natural looks. But keeping your weight down to keep fat off the face and show your bone structure, eating a cleaner diet and drinking water for clear skin, exercise, and SKINCARE is all we really need. After that, what’s really important, your character and personality, will shine through and make you unique. And if the day comes that you feel as though you must get filler/Botox, just get the plastic surgery. But that’s like 40s/50s and beyond.
Beyoncé? Would still be Beyoncé. The older version of the gorgeous 16/17 year old girl we saw at the beginning of her career. Beyoncé’s natural face card was never in question. Is that a joke?
