After playing both dead space and alien isolation a number of times, I would say that alien isolation is the best out of the two when it comes to survival horror.
I used to think Doom 3 was the scariest game I'd ever played. Until Alien: Isolation came along. Considering it creates the vast majority of it's fear through shear tension more than anything else, it thoroughly deserves it's #1 spot on this list.
Dead Space is scary because just when you get used to just shooting everything something unexpected happens. Like the giant teantacles or just finding new gruesome enemies like the divider or the stalker. Its also pretty fucking gruesome

I wonder if you really beat alien isolation tho cause for me I had to pick it up like 4 times to get into it cause I thought the same thing you did I hate outlast and amnesia too so at least we agree on that but when I finally got into alien isolation I was taken away by the inmatched AI alien isolation has along with the most realistic ship environment and alien but it was also true to movies. The alien really picks up how you play too and completely throws you off and kills you in the most unexpected ways. Not only is it true to the original alien movie but it has a very solid sequel story. I'm glad it wasn't a shooter alien it would have taken the fear away from the situation of being trapped with a perfect organisim killing machine on a ship. But there's more aliens later and you get guns and a flamethrower and devices later on so you are able to defend yourself so you're not technically defenseless in the game
Doom 3 is easily the scariest... they need to make another horror doom series after the retaliation doom game. I'm gonna be honest. doom 3 scared the shit outta me and it was fun as hell. then I played deadspace when that first came out and it was pretty creepy but after playing doom 3 years ago I was used to deadspace's atmosphere. loved both games.

On my first play, the intro with Ms. Spider splicer in the dark made me not want to exit the bathysphere. That first Big Daddy drilling into a splicer and smashing him through a window made me nervous to fight one later. The Little Sisters drinking blood drawn from corpses were both eerie & sad. And some of those audio-diaries, ugh... Claustrophobic atmosphere, the ocean leaking inside a beautiful but Hellish dystopia, that splicer talking to her revolver in the baby carriage, the dentistry and morgue jump-scares, Steinman's operating room, shall I go on? 😱
Dead Space is my all time favorite video game franchise. I've sunk countless hours into the first two games. Only played through 3 once but it wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. We need Dead Space 4! I'd even settle for a Dead Space Remaster

Ok first of all Stalker has survival game elements but it is better defined as an open-world RPG-lite FPS. It is set in an alternate universe where different technologies and anomalies are discovered and utilized. You know, fictional science? Also I don't know about you but plasma guns, BFG 9000's, portals, and bases on Mars seems rather Sci-Fi. You are correct about the genre being FPS, but this list is scary Sci-Fi games, not specifically those of the horror genre.

They're all good in their own ways. One may look better. Another may have franchises you know and love. The other may have features that you can use for more than just gaming. But really, is any one console better than the other? Is any game truly better than another? Maybe you just want to spread your love for a certain game or console. If so, then why do it in such a harsh manner? Be kind and tell someone the details. Don't tell them that your way is the only way to go. Try to acknowledge that they enjoy what they play for a reason, just as you enjoy what you play for your own reasons. Ease them into the things you like and you may change someone's opinion, but being rude isn't getting anyone anywhere and it's only tearing us apart.
I actually found Dead Space 2 scarier then the first one. The first game got very predictable after about an hour of playing and knowing where the necromorphs spawn so I rarely ever got jumped. Dead Space 2 though... I run for my life a couple of times from well placed jump scares and getting swarmed by necromorphs. That beginning was just the start of a fantastic horror game.
Agreed. Dead Space's deaths are enough to make me shit my pants. A skull ripping off your head and replacing it with itself, a vomiting necromorph who vomits on you until you puke yourself to death, and getting chopped in half by a door. Alien Isolation is a scary game too, but the deaths really aren't that scary. I also find the necromorphs to be scarier-looking than the alien.
I’m looking for one sci fi video game I played as a kid. I don't know her name, but I'll give you a rough description. The beginning of the game starts with a blue guy who has the task to go to a city and transform into a yellow character. In the game you can edit your ship and you can transform into any character on the map: skeletons, police, etc.
I don't know under which rock you've been living, but not only System Shock 1 is being remastered(presumably spring 2018), System Shock 3 is announced to be developed(release TBD)
System Shock gonna be remastered next year, and the 3rd game was announced too, so just wait, they'll come. Maybe even System Shock 2 gonna get a remaster!

Just found out a little funny thing about SS2 remaster. The devs behind the System Shock 1 remaster got a question once that said "Will you remaster SS2 too?" and they answered "One game at a time". So I guess that's a little teaser for SS2 remaster, heh.
Dead Space is my favorite and a classic, but Alien Isolation takes the cake easily. I have not played a scary game so horribly stressful; and I'm saying that in a good way. Dead Space at least lets you fight back and it's just the jump-scares.
In the follow up, they should have the alien should be able to see you from farther so that the chase starts earlier and you have a slightly longer time to hide before it gets to you. That would create even more tension. STAY PUT, IT DIDN'T SEE YOU, BUT IF YOU MOVE, IT WILL DEFINITELY SEE YOU.

the scare factor is greater in alien isolation just due to the fact you can't do shit and you can't even out run the xenomorph
Agreed. Dead Space's deaths are enough to make me shit my pants. A skull ripping off your head and replacing it with itself, a vomiting necromorph who vomits on you until you puke yourself to death, and getting chopped in half by a door. Alien Isolation is a scary game too, but the deaths really aren't that scary. I also find the necromorphs to be scarier-looking than the alien.

I’m looking for one sci fi video game I played as a kid. I don't know her name, but I'll give you a rough description. The beginning of the game starts with a blue guy who has the task to go to a city and transform into a yellow character. In the game you can edit your ship and you can transform into any character on the map: skeletons, police, etc.

I don't know under which rock you've been living, but not only System Shock 1 is being remastered(presumably spring 2018), System Shock 3 is announced to be developed(release TBD)
System Shock gonna be remastered next year, and the 3rd game was announced too, so just wait, they'll come. Maybe even System Shock 2 gonna get a remaster!

Just found out a little funny thing about SS2 remaster. The devs behind the System Shock 1 remaster got a question once that said "Will you remaster SS2 too?" and they answered "One game at a time". So I guess that's a little teaser for SS2 remaster, heh.

Dead Space is my favorite and a classic, but Alien Isolation takes the cake easily. I have not played a scary game so horribly stressful; and I'm saying that in a good way. Dead Space at least lets you fight back and it's just the jump-scares.

In the follow up, they should have the alien should be able to see you from farther so that the chase starts earlier and you have a slightly longer time to hide before it gets to you. That would create even more tension. STAY PUT, IT DIDN'T SEE YOU, BUT IF YOU MOVE, IT WILL DEFINITELY SEE YOU.

SOOOOO glad System Shock 2 was on this list. SHODAN's voice creeped me the fucked out as a kid, along with the basic zombie guys you run into.
