Nas called it-HipHop is Dead Everybody sounds the same, commercializing the game, reminiscent when it wasn't all business. They forgot where it started, now we all gather around for the dearly departed
And this time it won't be a young mans game it's gonna be whoever is the most creative and makes the most sense on what their talking about. Every genre started out a young mans game and now it's a free for all of all ages, hip-hop is up next.
This video was very, very well done young brother. Mainstream rap is over and is being used to kill hip hop culture. The industry did the same thing to (black) blues (black) rock, (black) jazz, (black) funk, (black) disco and (black) house music. Hip Hop is just the latest victim.
Supposedly, hip-hop is always dead or dying. But it's like Goku or Doomsday -- comes back stronger and/or immune to whatever "killed it." This happened when west coast hip-hop (more specifically, gangsta/reality rap) dominated after the east coast, then again when bling rap dominated, then when the south took over, ringtone rap, songs that needed to have a dance, then mumble/codeine rap, then streaming, then tiktok, then etc, etc, etc. There will always be some version of "hip-hop is dead/dying" but it's not. Not really.
Another big thing is none of these mainstream rappers can actually rap, no double entendres, wordplay, complex rhymes, storytelling, unconventional flows etc.
Bone Thugs n Harmony had a discussion in an interview talking about this exact topic; my paps and I also had a conversation I remember that correlates… The Bone Thugs interview they were discussing how they noticed a shift in rap talking about certain meeting taken place also a bit of foreshadowing on the type of parties these now day celebrities attend. But further going into Record companies either personally owning private prisons being in cahoots with whom ever to change to music from more positive and uplifting to a direction maybe a bit more self destructive. Not verbatim, but basically, you can still find the video on here forgot the name though. And my convo with paps he told me the last hip hop/rap album he purchased was back in 94. When I asked why he told we saw and heard the direction the music was going and didn’t want any part of it. Part of the reason he tried to shield me from secular music when I was a git, but when you like a song you find a way; can’t stop other peoples’/places’ music choices. But I definitely see it shit is practically on wax in for your face like it’s the 90s/early 00s. It’s sad though cause it’s not just music. Music Fashion Media. Yeah we say it’s cause parents don’t raise kids like they used to and while that has plenty merit; What the powers that be want gets green lit. All the entails.
I know this video came out 10 months ago but you're 100% right. Matter fact, the last 2 months, the 3 rappers/hip hop artists with huge double digit music video/song views on RUclips are K-Dot and Drake (and that's due to the diss drama) and Eminem. I noticed after K-Dot finished obliterating Drake, every rapper putting out songs/videos in the last 2 months have extremely low views. I thought with Drake out the way the last 2 months, there would be an increase on other artists getting an increase in streams/views, but I have yet to see it, outside of Kendrick.
American hip hop and rap is dying. So sad to see. Too caught up in what they look like, what they own, what diamonds they have. That's why UK hip hop is smashing it right now. Expanding the artform into new genres. Music is meant to evolve but people still want US hip hop to be 'just like its always been'. That's boring. Get rid of mumble rap immediately.
American Mainstream rap is dying, not Rap/Hip Hop in general In my opinion. It’s a lot of nice artist that’s independent, underground and a few that is in the mainstream circle. We just lacking some balance. What are some UK artist you would recommend to me?
Uk hiphop has over taken US especially in quality an lyrics and subjects . The only true mainstream hiphop purist rappers left from US is Kendrick and Cole
Yes, Mainstream Rap funereal possibly, if we don’t add balance to it. Hip Hop overall is still fully alive in my opinion if you look around in other pockets
YO, you underrated asf brodie. I'm an underground rapper myself, out of stl, my flow and delivery I like to consider unique. Big aspirations for the future cuz I'm literally pouring my heart and soul and life into rapping and freestyling. Juice wrld #1 inspired and peep 2nd. X 3rd. R.I.P hiphop legends. If you like my shit, please share it or listen to many of my upcoming songs❤ I say I let the current mainstream rapstars bask in their fame and glory, they can have it I'm more worried about the current underground artists that go HARD. Fr, thunk about it, the world is changing a lot at a rapid pace, and I believe we'll definitely see a new wave of rappers with unique talent in the near future
I always hear that these record labels provide drugs to these artists sometime, not a good look if so. Also, rapping about killing ya opp isn't in of itself a bad thing but the pride in making great music is gone in a lot of them. But that's not new.
I'm glad you did this video. However, Hip Hop is not dead. Let's be crystal, Hip Hop is a 4-5 element culture. Rap is only one of those elements, the art of MC'ing may have declined but the culture is still alive, it has moved to other hands in other countries. Rappers didn't kill Rap music, corporations did it by separating one element from the others because they could market rap. How do you market graffiti writing, b-boying, djing or the fifth element of knowledge of self? To keep it short, rap started to take a downward turn when hustlers began to step on the scene. Their mic doesn't sound too nice, they stick to the script and do what sales because if it don't make dollars then … The art and culture of it was pushed aside to make money. When those artist and fans who were true to it stepped to these "hustlers," there was pushback as they said there's enough MONEY out here for everybody or why is the old school hating on us and mad because we're doing us, or ya'll had your time it's ours now. The newer rappers couldn't see the big picture for being blinded by money, over-priced clothes, all too willing women, etc. Ownership of the culture was given away and sold long ago. This is not a sole attack on the youth because some of your favorite old heads began the downward spiral.
Same old generic trap beats, genric auutotune hooks, gernic rap styles...rap is boring with no soul.... these rappers have no connection to hip hop they know nothing about the founders nor do they care to know .. its not even Hip Hop anymore its a whole ne catagory
Go back and listen to UGK, 8Ball & MJG, and Outkast and then listen to today's Southern Hip Hop. No comparison... the substance is gone, the soul is gone, the creativity is GONE!!!
I think the problem is mainstream rap that’s trash, if you using modern/ like the word mainstream.. But outside of the mainstream rap I can name a lot of rappers that’s really good.
People always blaming mumble rap or whatever but These trash ass “lyrical” rappers not helping either one of the biggest problems is niggas can’t write a song anymore since the beginning the biggest rappers were able to write hooks catchy songs etc and still weave in stories and lyrics it seems like most artists not talented enough to pull that off anymoee
the problem is new artist don't and can't write poetry that and they do not understand the vibrational frequencies change and evolve so they have problems creating organic music
This video sucks, it just feels so outdated Not because of the time but because this feels like a rant video of 2015 of old heads arguing not 2023 Plus we are in a much better place now then before thanks to the current Kendrick and Drake beef so this video becomes invalidated now, altough there are a few decent points
I know the other ones were added a little later, but street language is something where we talk in a code, I heard KRS-ONE break it down. If you don’t think theres not a certain language/lingo attached to hip hop culture then I respect that.
Nas called it-HipHop is Dead

I remember when he dropped that album and A lot of ppl was calling him crazy, he definitely seen it before most of us did
And this time it won't be a young mans game it's gonna be whoever is the most creative and makes the most sense on what their talking about. Every genre started out a young mans game and now it's a free for all of all ages, hip-hop is up next.
This is a good take. Appreciate your comment bro 🤝🏾

Rap/Hip Hop is roughly where Rock music was in the late 2000s in terms of mainstream popularity....
This video was one of the best breakdowns of this topic. Thank you.

That’s a good point. “It’s not even Hip Hop anymore it’s a whole new category”
Exactly. Trap is straight up garbage.
try listening to rock/metal. We need a reusrgence in a new genre
@@AS-xj9cy that’s what I mainly listen to, or video game soundtracks.

Modern rap is trash
I think the problem is mainstream rap that’s trash, if you using modern/ like the word mainstream..
But outside of the mainstream rap I can name a lot of rappers that’s really good.
for these reasons, i think the more creative artists like yeat, cordae or jid will take over, same with carti(if he drops)
Looking at the Spotify top 50. I think rap may be dead

U never could and never will make crap without rap
IT'S FAILING BECAUSE OF THE CONSTANT NEGATIVE CONTENT.
Rap died back in 2008
This video sucks, it just feels so outdated

But if I say it I’m a hater.
Please there are only 5 elements emceeing, deejaying, breakin', graff and beatboxing.don’t add stuff street language lol nonsense
I know the other ones were added a little later, but street language is something where we talk in a code, I heard KRS-ONE break it down.
If you don’t think theres not a certain language/lingo attached to hip hop culture then I respect that.
Everyone making the same video over and over again smh
