A game based in Japan being banned in Japan has got to be the strangest things to ever hear.
Even more weird the ps5 version won numerous awards in Japan, and was Sony's best selling Sony 1st party title in Japan in 15 years since Gran Turismo 4 for PS2, so banning the pc version in Japan is very very weird.

I had been planning on getting ghost of Tsushima. But after the Helldivers 2 PSN situation I don’t plan on getting any Sony games going forward. I don’t like having third party accounts for any of my games. But Sony by far is the worst and I don’t trust them with my data.

Sucker Punch kinda fumbled the ball on this one (at least for Legends mode) since your PSN account is linked to the multiplayer services. Meaning that if you wanted to reset your progress, you’d have to make a whole new PSN account with another PSN subscription. Single player should not have to require a PSN account, that’s Sony being greedy.

Has nothing to do with them being greedy, has to do with convenience of not having to setup additional servers for the PC release and just re-use the already existing Playstation servers which yeah would require a PSN account to access.

Sony is not in Japan, it's based in California now. And this is making me waver on getting the game. I don't plan on ever doing the multiplayer, but it's SONY. They're not known for data security.
Sony official HQ is in Japan with a North America division in New York. PlayStation official HQ is in California.

I don't care if a single outfit is behind their account wall, I'm not giving my money to a studio that requires this for any reason, unless they don't sell it on steam, if it's on steam then steam can moderate the anti cheat. do note that you cannot even buy the damn game on unsupported regions. It simply does not exist on steam for non-supported PSN regions, forcing people to pirate
Well yeah that is what it means to be an unsupported region. There would be a reason why a region would not be able to buy something. Typically because that region has a government that impose crazy laws.

Its all about the context that is in said game whatever its allowed in a region or not. Not the fact that you can't sell games in those regions at all.
Like the Wolfenstein games being blacklisted in Germany because they deal with Nazis and have Nazi symbols in them for instance.

@@nelsonsham2368 Only required for the multiplayer part of the game. Its not required for playing the single player campaign. And the reason for this is probably because they just re-used the same network code for the multiplayer part as on the PS version. No need to create new server model and setup additional servers if you can just use what you already have available on the PS version of the game.
Now sure, it would have been nice if they had actually made new net code for the PC release but also lets not forget that most players would play this game for the Single player campaign primarily, the multiplayer portion is not even all that great from what i recall. And again the PSN account is only required for that aspect, not required at all for playing the campaign.
Buying is not owning anymore. Releases are *never* complete/done at releaseday. Insane cashgrabs of all kinds. Pay to win. Pirating is not a crime at this point.

This entire Steam PSN acount link is absolutely stupid. Linking accounts by choice is one thing, needing to create an acount when a game launches for online services and crossplay, fair. Locking people out of a game without account Linking for no reason outside of trying to get PSN acount metrics up. Is just garbage.

As much as I hate what they did, it’s still not reasonable as console version stil exists for them to buy.
Sony just needs to make a statement saying why PSN is not offered in those countries. Is it because the country they operate out of blacklists those countries or is it because Sony does?
As for why the single player part of the game is not offered, there is a good chance that it could be due to legal issues. Sony would only be selling part of the game, so that could easily lead to legal troubles in those countries from consumer rights organizations.
All this could be explained with simple explanation why but they refuse to say. Could save them the headache.

Sony is in trouble. That's why they're trying to force every pc game moving forward to have a psn account. They need the numbers for their quarter meetings to make it seem like they have a bunch of people subscribing to their network which is not the case.
I think it's more about data mining. For gamers who have both a Playstation and a PC, Sony wants to compare their PS and Steam libraries, so Sony can figure out which games are prefered to play on PC, and come up with strategies to get gamers to prefer the Playstation version.

I have a ps5 and ps4, so I don't have a problem with having a psn account. However if I didn't have either or and only pc I would see this as a problem for sure. Only time will tell.

Its one thing with requiring a PSN account if account collecting is your jam, but to be bummed by a region lock for most the world just shows you how 3rd world playstation is as a brand, and its just straight up bad for business in all regards, gamepass has less of this problem, if anything it solves a good portion of it even if not perfect, it gives an option.
Im pretty certain that many of sony based devs are biting their nails, not because they fear of getting booted as if they were in xbox ownership, but more that many of them are just doing their job, knowing that the higher ups dont understand the gaming industry by any stretch, the more barriers to entry means more lost sales, simple as that, and another way to put it is even if the rate of gamers in the other countries only amass to an extra 1m sales, thats still an extra 1m.

One week, 2 weeks, a month or 2? Sony could very easily, and I'd say is even likely, to require account link for all access soon. This is just a small "normalizer" after the HD2 backlash. But hey, trusting untrustworthy companies has never went poorly for anyone before, right?

On steam it is still “very positive” and the only negative reviews are those. It isn’t the games fault, it’s the publisher. The bad reviews hurt the game devs more than Sony.
