the whammy bar tip @11:30 or so, about how just holding it and playing naturally makes the guitar go flat- I had never thought of it that way. That's really a great tip
Awesome video. Ive always been confused about guitar tab websites that said tune to a specific hz. to play his songs. This video cleared that up with the tape manipulatuion and how it affected the tuning.
Little detail here concerning Viceroy, Mac doesn't use a whammy bar (mostly because the Cardboard Queen has no whammy) but he bends the guitar neck instead ;) Of course, that might have changed when he switched to Fenders, but originally, there's no whammy ! Excellent video though, thanks for your work !
Hey man, well done on this analysis, been listening to Mac for about 8 years and I completely agree. Here is a request/question can you do something similar about the Growlers? I’ve been into them for about as long and I just love all the guitar riffs that Matt the lead guitarist does. I mean I love everything about them. Cheers, keep well
he also likes sliding down the neck in between or before he plays a chords to kind of fade in the sound, i noticed this is very definitive when you check him playing 'dreaming' on the acoustic guitar for instance
the delivery, facts, transitions, and meme-to-information ratio make this such a fucking fantastic video
Thank you!
So many gems in this vid, also your way of describing harmony is super intuitive

@@DanMmusic Ohh nice! I'll be waiting for the video man. They were based in Dana Point but moved to Costa Mesa later.

Glad you liked it - I really think he's one of the more influential guitarists of the current generation
happy to be yr 1k subscriber lol
thank you!!!!
Awesome video! Should check out Connan Mockasin, he definitely had some influence on Mac's sound
Its funny you say about the capo pushing the strings out of tune, indeed it does as I found out personally but thicker gauge strings fixed it for me 😎
Hey man great video. If you’re doing a demonstration like this I would make the guitar tone slightly less gainy/overdriven. Overall great video tho!
I appreciate it!
Cool topic!
Glad you found it insightful!
Few people know this but his biggest inspiration was Chris Gervais. I renember hearing about it from one of his npr interviews
One of macs biggest influences on his sound was connan mockasin! If you wanna know why his guitar sounds like it does, check out connan!
im still curious how he gets that rough guitar tone
Check Connan Mockasin, Mac Demarco himself has sayed he has been a big influence on his music. A very talented artist.
I'll check him out!
Quick question: his signature effect is vibrato right?
yes! Glad you liked the video!
would love if you go deep on this chords theory (the minor 4 or the . would love to make compositions using them.
I'll see what I can do!
Thought he used a tascam 388 on another one ?
He did
He recorded Anorher One with a Tascam 388.
Where the hell did you get the info about a TEAC 3440???
This ain‘t Kurt Cobain yo!
